Got to kick this off now because this is no shitty WWE event. WWE.com didn't have the match layouts w/ picture like they normally do for the PPV's. :nono:

Anyway, so just talk about anything related to ECW in here. Memories of when you first watched, memories of live events, favorite characters, angles, matches etc......

CHICKENS!

With the way WWE is hyping this event (particularly over the last week), I'm way more excited than I thought I'd be. I'm hoping they can continue their positive momentum for one more night at least.

I will mark the hell out as soon as I hear Fonzie's whistle. And if RVD takes two-and-a-half hours to get to the ring, it will feel like the old days.

Loose Cannon 06-13-2005 07:59 AM

As I mentioned in Kayfabe's thread, I was introduced to ECW around 96 when my freinds told me about it. It was on the MSG channel in New York at 2 at the morning, so I would catch it if I was still awake by then. I believed it was real for a while as well.

Favorite moment back then was probably when the Dudleys broke Beulah's neck.

loopydate 06-13-2005 08:10 AM

I actually learned about ECW from "Pro Wrestling Illustrated" in the mid '90s. The first time I actually saw ECW wrestlers was when they invaded RAW just before Barely Legal. I did some channel surfing late one night and found that their syndicated show played on PASS Sports in Michigan. One of my first vivid ECW memories was of Terry Funk defending the World Title against Shane Douglas and Douglas getting disqualified (!) because Francine wouldn't stop biting Funk.

But PASS Sports got bought out by FOX Sports Net in the late '90s, so I lost my ECW viewing opportunities until they debuted on TNN. I never missed an episode of that show for that very reason. I didn't want to look back and think "Man, I wish I had watched more of it before (insert bad thing) happened."

When we moved to our new house a few years ago, we bought a trampoline, and I used to pretend to do ECW shows with my Hulk Hogan wrestling buddy. Even went so far as to make a Singapore cane of my own. Good times.

Loose Cannon 06-13-2005 08:32 AM

I also loved the Dudley Clan because it was such a unique concept. There were so many of them, even though some didn't last long. Was it me or was Bubba so much bigger back then? Anyway, each of them played thier respective characters to a tilt. Dudley Dudley was my favorite.

Damn, I want this PPV so badly. :(

blake639raw 06-13-2005 08:51 AM

Yeah, Buh Buh has lost alot of weight since then. The Dudleys ruled in ECW. I hope they bring back Sign Guy and Gertner tonight. RIP Big Dick.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-13-2005 08:57 AM

Bubba was fucking huge back in the day.

I miss going to an ECW show and having security come outside with a big been before the show saying "Weapons for New Jack" and people would start dumping shit in...

I also miss hanging out with Balls and New Jack in a bar after some shows.

Hell, I pretty much miss everything about ECW.

Steve Corino was the shit...

I'd order the ppv, but I'm broke, and have no faith in WWE.

Hopefully they'll prove me wrong...

I doubt it.

Karlsberg 06-13-2005 09:06 AM

My first memories of ecw were in 99 when they started showing it on a channel called bravo over here in the UK. Since then i have seen a lot of ECW footage dating back as far as 94.

I think the best ECW ppv i have seen is heatwave 98. Just out of curiosity what are other peoples favourite ECW ppv's.

That was awesome. I think i was the only third grader staying up late to see ECW on msg. This is the first time i'm ordering a ppv in a long time.

Hired Hitman 06-13-2005 09:58 AM

Beulah is a chick, right? breaking a womans neck... that had to gain some heat... or cheers if she was a bitch :o

Savio 06-13-2005 10:27 AM

A BIT EARLY LC! [/corky]

NoRoolz 06-13-2005 10:46 AM

I get the P.P.V free :D. So does anyone who has SkySports (in Britain anyway). Only thing is it's at 1am (2 here in Spain). But I'll definitely watch, and tape it .

Gouda 06-13-2005 11:06 AM

I'm debating over whether to get it or not.

Got some potentially awesome matches there (Bentoit/Guerrero, Storm/Jericho, Rey/Psychosis) but the problem is...

If instead of wrestling all they do is focus on hitting each other with weapons then it'll be really kinda crappy.

And the way they've been portraying ECW on TV makes it seem like they're going to just focus on the weapons and screw everything else.

So it's a risk...

Plus there are also matches I have no interest in, such as the Dudley Boys, or Mike Awesome.

So yeah... I am undecided on whether to order this or not.

rob11 06-13-2005 11:53 AM

First time i saw ecw was in the mid 90s on channel 48 in philadelphia. I remember 911 coming out as a face and beating up the heels. I'm getting the ppv tonight, it will be the first wwe ppv ive ordered in i think 4 years but it will be worth it. I saw some other ppv's at school where they used to get them for us but they stopped this year and i didnt "order" them

Nah those will be technical matches, and if they use weapons trust me..it won't ruin it. ECW when they had Eddy, Benoit, and Malenko they hardly if ever used any weapons they were known as pure tech wrestlers of course.

Probably in the matches where weapons will be primary will be in the Dudleys, Awesom/tanaka, and the 3 way dance. And why isn't RVD wresling Sabu!??

Crimson 06-13-2005 12:27 PM

They should bring in Sabu strapped on that stretcher like in the beginning.:y:

Boondock Saint 06-13-2005 12:36 PM

Ordered it already. Can't wait. I pray to God this is not a disappointment. I have a good feeling about it and WWE have hyped it well.

Been listening to the ECW theme

Tornado 06-13-2005 12:49 PM

Even though I have a 9 hour shift at work 6 hours after the PPV ends, i'm definatly gonna stay up to watch it. I just hope and pray WWE comes through on this one, it definatly has the potential to be great.

RVD's injured. I wouldn't be surprised if he winds up in Sabu's corner (with Fonzie, natch) if Sabu winds up in an impromptu match.

This will also be the first PPV I've ordered since WM21.

And Karlsberg, I think Heatwave may be my favorite, too. Granted, I haven't seen many complete shows (almost all of my tapes are compilations), but that was a great one. Sabu/RVD vs. Shinzaki/Hayabusa was -worthy.

Mr. JL 06-13-2005 01:35 PM

I just hope they all come out to their ECW music. If RVD comes out to "one Of A Kind" instead of Walk, I'll be pissed. If The Sandman comes out to anything other than "Enter Sandman" :nono:

PullMyFinger 06-13-2005 01:40 PM

I remember hearing about ECW, but I didn't get it on TV. They'd always come locally to the War Memorial Center in South Florida...but that was it. Then, I began to get it through the Sunshine Network and DirecTV's generic owned channel...and it was around 97-98 (Attitude Era). Bam Bam Bigelow had just left ECW by then....Mr. PPV RVD was instantly my favorite with the TV Title. The rivalry between The Whole F'n Show Jerry Lynn and Mr. PPV Rob Van Dam was GREAT. I loved it so much.

However, my favorites were the insanely crazy heels that ECW had. I used to mark out for them....the Dudley Boyz (they were so dick to the crowd it was great) and Steve Corino! The crowd despised Corino so much, and it was so great.

It's just a shame that by the time I started to watch ECW, it only lasted about 2 more years. I wish I could've seen it during its initial peroid, but that didn't happen obviously. It did suck though as to how both WWE and WCW were raiding so much of their talent...Taz, Mike Awesome, Lance Storm, Shane Douglas...both those wrestlers did need some money for all their hard work so I don't blame them for leaving.

I'm going to watch the PPV tonight hopefully...

edit: One thing that pisses me off is how WWE just destroyed the credibilities of a lot of the wrestlers. Lance Storm, Taz, RHINO (they really fucked him over the most by turning that sadistic animal into a jobber), etc.

Innovator 06-13-2005 01:58 PM

Most memorable moments for me were when Sandman and Raven returned in 99. I started watching ECW in early 98 and seeing these ECW icons in their homeland was purely amazing.

Oh yeah....

*gets thumbs ready*

MMMM Heatwave 98, Taz vs. Bigelow Street Fight for the FTW Title. I love that moment after they go through the ramp, Bigelow crawls out and stuggles to get to the ring. Taz jump out of nowhere, does the throat slash, runs and locks the Tazmission in on Bigelow, tap out.

Loose Cannon 06-13-2005 02:08 PM

I hear RVD will be doing a shoot interview on the show and will be doing something else. Nice

I am heading out now to watch the ppv, going to tape it of course. I hope this is worth 30 bucks!

Yeah but this isn't ECW. This is WWE's ECW.

They may have been pure technical wrestlers in ECW but the WWE seems to be focused on the weapons.

Like those ECW Rules matches they had.

Bentoit/Tajiri was crap.

I don't want to pay to see more of that.

Since I really don't know, did they really break her neck (accidentally) or did they "break" her neck (part of storyline)?

I'll be getting the PPV. I might be dissapointed, I don't have a cheeseburger, but I may see some good stuff. LIKE CHEESEBURGERS AS A WEAPON

And to make things interesting, Sabu should be screaming all high pitched with a 2 second rest in between. Like did you ever see Beavis and Butthead in the episode "Nothing Happening" where Stuart blows himself up with his chem set and hes taken out in the hospital on a stretcher screaming? They should do that with Sabu

John la Rock 06-13-2005 04:03 PM

I'm not ordering it. Didn't really watch ECW so i will be lost

Loose Cannon 06-13-2005 04:09 PM

nah, not ordering it. $35 is just too much for me. I'll get it in 2 months for like half that price. Enjoy the show though guys. Should be a really good one.
