Live 8

Why is nobody talking about this? It is going to be amazing if you ask me.

Especially the one in Barrie, Ontario since Motley Crue is playing it.

Discuss.

Mike the Metal Ed 06-27-2005 07:04 PM

London gets Pink Floyd, gotta watch that on TV.

El Vaquero de Infierno 06-27-2005 07:18 PM

one man and his ego...

Bad Company 06-27-2005 08:13 PM

whats live 8?

el fregadero 06-28-2005 04:29 AM

It sounded pretty bad until I heard VH1 was gonna show Audioslave. I didn't know London got to see Pink Floyd though.

packt up 06-28-2005 07:36 AM

I'm going to London WOOOOOO. Should be awesome. The London line up is so much better than the rest IMO.

Mr. Monday Morning 06-28-2005 08:40 AM

The organisers are on crack if they think 5.5 billion people are going to watch this.

el fregadero 06-28-2005 04:27 PM

That means almost 1 billion people aren't going to watch it. What are they doing wrong?

Mr. Monday Morning 06-28-2005 04:33 PM

5.5 billion accounts for like 80% (probably more) of the entire world's population. God only knows how many people in Africa alone won't have any means of watching it (oh the irony) and general apathy/lack of knowledge will push the numbers of how many actually watch way down.

el fregadero 06-28-2005 04:46 PM

You have to aim high.

DegenerationY 06-28-2005 05:00 PM

pinkkkkkkkkk floydddddddddddd

Gertner 06-29-2005 12:54 PM

the line-up for the one in barrie completley BLOWS

Esoteric 07-01-2005 01:45 AM

I feel even worse for the one thats taking place in Russia. It seems as if the Pet Shop Boys are headlining.....I am hoping for the concerts sake I am wrong.

FakeLaser 07-01-2005 02:25 AM

Wait, what

el fregadero 07-01-2005 02:31 AM

Some concert thing from those ONE people, MTV and VH1 are televising it.

DS 07-01-2005 02:34 AM

Word has it they don't play for long. Like 20 minutes at the most or something like that. So like 1 or 2 Floyd songs.

el fregadero 07-01-2005 03:03 AM

That's probably all that will be on tv, but they are in concert in London I guess. MTV will go to all these different concerts and show like about 20 minutes of a bunch of different bands.

Mr. Monday Morning 07-01-2005 07:31 AM

Nah the 20 minute thing is for real, supposedly there'll be some sort of rotating platform or something to keep the bands moving along.

Not joking here either :|

DS 07-01-2005 01:56 PM

Yeah, swear to God man.

Mr. Monday Morning 07-01-2005 02:14 PM

What if I'm atheist

Mike the Metal Ed 07-01-2005 02:53 PM

Floyd are only playing 3 songs, what a load of shit.

Mike the Metal Ed 07-01-2005 02:54 PM

and if they break their set time, they'll just be unplugged and rotated.

Jonster 07-01-2005 03:43 PM

I won't be watching, I'll be at work.

And this 10 minute limit is annoying, there's too many bands to have a decent stage time.

Danny Electric 07-02-2005 11:25 AM

London's line up is quite bad compared to others.

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 01:05 PM

hey, VH1 and MTV are putting there reporters together. That's pretty cool.

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 01:25 PM

Woah, marks out for The Verve and Coldplay doing Bitter Sweet Symphony

Danny Electric 07-02-2005 01:54 PM

Yeah i was watching that live earlier, was sweet.

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 01:56 PM

they only showed a clip of it here :(

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 02:06 PM

oh wait, they are doing the whole thing now :)

blake639raw 07-02-2005 02:11 PM

Whoa, is Roger Waters actually playing with Floyd? Damn, I never thought I'd see the day. Here's hoping a world tour follows.

Mr. Monday Morning 07-02-2005 02:40 PM

Yeah complete Pink Floyd reunion. Dunno about anything after today though.

Yeah, because Pink Floyd pales in comparison to Good Charlotte, The Pet Shop Boys and A-Ha.

el fregadero 07-02-2005 06:04 PM

Speaking of which, Floyd hasn't been shown already have they? :(

The Mask 07-02-2005 06:08 PM

i think it wwent off before they were even on

TheNamelessOne 07-02-2005 06:14 PM

Robbie Williams is on in London this very minute, after this its The Who and Pink Floyd.

Most of the day has been pretty crap, I did like UB40, REM and even the Scissor Sisters were entertaining for a change.

But Velvet Revolver were fucking AWESOME in London. Acheiving new levels of awesomeness.

el fregadero 07-02-2005 06:20 PM

I meant have they shown them on tv, because I'm not actually in London you see.

Arashi Kage 07-02-2005 06:30 PM

I turned down going to Live 8 in Barrie, I just didn't feel up to going. My buddy said his tickets were "almost front row", maybe I should have gone, oh well, too late now.

LK 07-02-2005 06:34 PM

The stereophonics were great, killers were good (only one friggin song), velvet revolvler sounded good and green day were very good in Berlin.

TheNamelessOne 07-02-2005 06:43 PM

The Who are currently on stage.

FUCKING AWESOME. SOCKS ROCKED BEYOND REPAIR.

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 06:48 PM

YEA, DAM RIGHT

TheNamelessOne 07-02-2005 06:48 PM

WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN...NO NO

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 06:50 PM

I hope they do one more

Baba O' Riley

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 06:52 PM

darn

TheNamelessOne 07-02-2005 06:54 PM

Bastards! Fuck of Johnathon Ross I don't want to see your face! BRING BACK PETER KAYE

TheNamelessOne 07-02-2005 06:55 PM

Oh well, on the bright side, Floyd next. Bet the BBC decides to interupt that with a highly interesting interview with that bloke from Travis. Yeah that one.

LK 07-02-2005 06:59 PM

Reminds me Travis were good as well. The Who were fucking awesome as well as was the Coldplay/Verve combo.

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 07:08 PM

Floyd

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 07:18 PM

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

WISH YOU WERE HERE

McLegend 07-02-2005 07:31 PM

Pink Floyd was amazing

Mr. Monday Morning 07-02-2005 07:31 PM

Comfortably Numb

Mr. Monday Morning 07-02-2005 07:33 PM

Oh, yeah believe it or not (I dunno if it got shown over there) but Snoop was on about 5 hours ago and put on a decent show, got the crowd very into it. Madonna was a very good performance also.

The Miz 07-02-2005 08:15 PM

Paul McCartney + George Michael = vomit

Loose Cannon 07-02-2005 08:27 PM

gonna lose it with all this snapping finger shit soon

TheNamelessOne 07-02-2005 08:29 PM

Paul McCartney = Vomit.

His ego dominated this show. He opened it and he closed it.

And he ended in the most predictable way with "Hey Jude"

RoXer 07-02-2005 08:51 PM

 Velvet Revolver & Audioslave

The Outlaw 07-02-2005 09:34 PM

Holy shit

DegenerationY 07-03-2005 02:03 AM

K, what the fuck. I don't wanna see Mariah Carey and George Michael sing Hey Jude.

Can't even find any video clips of Pink Floyd. This sucks.

FakeLaser 07-03-2005 02:15 AM

I MISSED ITTTTTTTTTTT :(

el fregadero 07-03-2005 02:45 AM

I was recording like the last three hours after I went to work just to see Audioslave and Pink Floyd, and it didn't work like usual. Feeling down in the dumps right now.

DegenerationY 07-03-2005 04:06 AM

You can see rebroadcasts of the entire thing on aolmusic.com

Naturally, the London feed is not working.

el fregadero 07-03-2005 04:32 AM

It's working now, but you can't fast forward. And Pink Floyd is the last band on. :(

The Gooch 07-04-2005 09:29 AM

Highlights:

Pink Floyd
Gordon Lightfoot
Neil Young (especially the "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World" finale)
DMC
Green Day
Deep Purple (you can tell they make their money touring)
REM
Elton John

Surprises:

Robbie Williams (never thought he'd be that good live)
Madonna (same as Robbie)

Disappointments:

Blue Rodeo (not musically, I just didn't care for their set selection)
Bryan Adams (same as Blue Rodeo)
Tom Cochrane (poor opening for the Canadian Show his voice seemed shot)
Paul McCartney (dunno why, I'm just disappointed they didn't end with Floyd. "Hey Jude" is just too overdone nowadays)

Strange:

Canadian fans booing Celine Dion. Funny, but not very appropriate in my opinion considering the event.

The Miz 07-04-2005 03:12 PM

It is never inappropriate to boo Celine Dion

Boomer 07-04-2005 03:59 PM

Canada has apologized for Brian Adams on multiple occasions.

Zen v.W.o. 07-06-2005 12:18 AM

Well think of this. Every band made the effort to go to the actual site the gigs were taking place. Celine does the Canadian one, in fucking Vegas. She has such an ego, she records her performance in Vegas, acts over dramatic as usual, and expects that to go over well. Can she not leave Vegas for one moment? No wonder they booed.

That's why I found it funny because I found Celine to be in typical Diva form. Then again she is likely under some kind of contract with the Hotel. That will be her excuse anyway.

Given that it was a charity event, I'm thinking the fans were still out of line. It reminds me of when the fans booed Justin Timberlake at the SARS concert. Again, I found it hilarious, but when you stop to think about why you are there, it was probably the wrong thing to do.

packt up 07-17-2005 04:04 PM

I went to the London gig. It was pretty cool - tired after standing all that time. Coldplay, Pink Flloyd and dare I say it Robbie Williams were the best acts wooo.

Mr. JL 07-22-2005 01:45 AM

Yeah, this is a little late but I have been so busy I haven't really had time to think or type up anything.

I must say the finale witrh Neil Young and keep on rocking in the free world was amazing. You just can't describe it. It felt really surreal.

I must say Simple Plan really got the crowd going, not my personal favourite but they sounded pretty good. My favourite performance was Our Lady Peace. I've just been so busy with working full time, summer school, girlfriend, family that I still haven't had any time to really reflect.

I would have really liked to be at the London concert tho with Pink F'N Floyd
