I  Hockey!

The Gooch 07-13-2005 05:02 PM

I just heard that fans may not be able to attend the draft in Ottawa. Nice way to treat us after the year or so of shit you've dealt us.

Not confirmed yet, but if true I'm extremely pissed.

Yea, players with natural talent aren't really good at teacher others how to be good. They can't explain what makes them awesome, its just something they do. I'm not saying he doesn't know matchups, strategies, etc. It's just that playing skill doesn't = coaching skill.

PS: WOOOO HOCKEY!!!

PPS: Goddamn Redwings trying to hire that f'ng Duck as their coach. It just feels so wrong. Can't anybody hold a grudge these days!!

I read an article about the Wild when they come back, they look pretty solid still. We have pretty much all of our major guys still signed, Gabby, Roloson, Park, Brunette, Dupuis, and I didn't even remember that we randomly have Rolston. The only guys I was concerned that are now FA's are Pierre Marc-Buchard and Willie Mitchell.

I am as excited as ever for hockey to come back.

Adder 07-19-2005 11:59 AM

The player signings that are fast approaching should be interesting. I think next year will be even better.

KleptoKlown 07-19-2005 12:34 PM

with the type of rolling cap they have, it really should be more interesting every year.

Y2Ant 07-19-2005 02:56 PM

I'm liking the draft setup, it gives the Ducks a good shot at getting Crosby

Mad pumped for the new season now, we should do a TPWW yahoo fantasy league again :o :o :o :o

MoRcHeEbA 07-19-2005 03:33 PM

I wouldn't really say the set up gives any team a good shot, even the teams with 3 balls in the drum could all miss out on him. COME ON BUFFALO

BCWWF 07-19-2005 03:55 PM

With the Crosby thing, I keep hearing that the Rangers have a really good chance at getting him. Were they real bad in 2004 or how come they have such a good chance? I want to see a good team in New York again, but for some reason I just see Crosby being a choke if he gets drafted there. I want him on a smaller market team, the Mighty Ducks would be cool for him.

MoRcHeEbA 07-19-2005 04:20 PM

Rangers, Buffalo, Columbus, Pittsburgh all have 3 balls in the lottery

Anaheim, Atlanta, Calgary, Carolina, Chicago, Edmonton, LA, Minnesota, Phoenix, all have 2 balls

Boston, Colorado, Dallas, Detroit, Florida, Montreal, New Jersey, New York Islanders, Ottawa, Philly, St. Louis, San Jose, Tampa Bay, Toronto, Vancouver, Washington all have 1 ball

The lottery formula is as follows - each team begins with three balls. For every playoff appearance in the last three years or No. 1 overall pick over the last four years, a team loses one ball. But each team will still be guaranteed to have one ball in the lottery. The first round will go with teams picking 1 through 30, with the 30th team picking 31st and the draft order 'snaking' back and forth in a seven round draft.

MoRcHeEbA 07-19-2005 04:22 PM

so out of 46 balls the Rangers have 3... I wouldn't really call that fantastic odds.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-19-2005 04:23 PM

Bruins are getting the first pick

MoRcHeEbA 07-19-2005 04:25 PM

no one wants to play for the bruins lol.

Zen v.W.o. 07-19-2005 04:25 PM

Fuck the Bruins.

Habs are getting him, and if not now, then later. The way the system works now, we'll have him at his peak. Of course he's gonna wanna sign with his all time fave team. But fuck the Bruins.

MoRcHeEbA 07-19-2005 04:27 PM

Aslong as he doesn't play for Toronto I don't care where he plays

Zen v.W.o. 07-19-2005 04:30 PM

Not until they get better management and decide to actually air their home games. I think Chi town is the only must avoid place for Sidney.

Y2Ant 07-19-2005 06:21 PM

Thats gay how the Rangers have 3 balls, I have a feeling he is gonna end up there.

MoRcHeEbA 07-19-2005 07:55 PM

eh, you can't say they don't deserve 3 balls. They have sucked for the last three years.

BCWWF 07-19-2005 09:02 PM

The Bruins were sweet when Samsonov and Thornton were good.

Anyway, it might have been posted in this thread even a link to some article that was talking up the Rangers getting Crosby.

I was thinking more from a Marketing aspect of the league. I totally agree with you that the management in Chicago has been horrible. There does not seem to be a commitment to put a good team on the ice. Hopefully that will change if this new collective bargaining is ratified.

I know. I just think that if Crosby does get drafted there, it would be nice if the fans in Chicago could actually get to watch him and their team on tv for home games.
I think it's a shame what management has done to an original 6 team, where the fans are loyal enough. Chicago is a top notch sports city imo, and are for Hockey as well.

Lara Emily 07-22-2005 05:23 AM

Crosby goes to the Devils where he is then forced to play the trap and which results in him eventually becomes a low scoring defensemen. ;)

He'll probably end up on a top team like Colorado or Detroit which will do two things: 1) It'll expose this draft system as the total farce that it is and 2) piss off almost every hockey fan left. (Fan of the team that lends him excluded naturally)

Adder 07-22-2005 11:56 AM

The fact that teams like COlorado, Detroit, Toronto, New Jersey all have a have a chance of drafting anywhere near the first overall is ridiculous.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 07-22-2005 02:01 PM

Yea this system of getting the 1st pick is like a terrible verison of the NBA draft lottery. Bad teams only get 3 balls while every other team gets 1 haha. Like a cracked out version or some shit

The Gooch 07-22-2005 02:20 PM

Agreed, but disagree. I can see teams that have been historically good losing a lot of players under this new salary cap system. Teams like Toronto, Detroit and Colorado have huge payrolls which they'll need to trim, so they may not be as competitive this upcoming season.

MoRcHeEbA 07-22-2005 02:38 PM

it's pretty much that most teams are probably gonna keep THREE top tier players if their lucky (minus the leafs cause for some gay reason people wanna play there) so pretty much every team is starting over from scratch so I don't mind if a good team gets Crosby.

Getting stuck with Theo is a bad thing because he is an overrated, overpaid piece of crap. He always gets out of his goal to catch the puck, and half the time, he misses the pass or gives it to the opposing team. He is always on his knees before the shot even arrives. He chokes under pressure. He is kept on the team because he is married to the sister of one of the biggest star in Quebec, so people love him, and he makes talk-show and even tries to sing. Ugh.

Theodore has had one good performance in the playoffs a couple of years ago, and ever since, people say he could be the savior of the team which is bullshit. He choked ever since, and we had a far superior goalie in Matthieu Garon, who if he was given the time, could have been better and more appreciated than Jose Theodore.

Holy moly you are way off. The fact is, the past 2 playoffs he hasn't choked under pressure at all. Just look at the series with the B's. Without him, we'd be toast. We were down 3 games to one. He helped us get to game 7, then he didnt allow one single goal in a high pressure game 7. Theo is easily one of the best goalies in this league. The fact he managed to play well with all the family crap he had going on shows you he is a big game player, and one who does not crack under pressure. And until Garon ever comes close to winning a vezina and an mvp award, then maybe you can mention him as being in Theo's level.
If Theo could be the Habs goalie for the next decade I wouldnt be upset about that.
And I dont even know who Theo's sister is actually.

Zen v.W.o. 07-22-2005 05:13 PM

Theodore was choking against Boston, and he did choke against Tampa. He choked for the last two playoffs. It was Koivu, Kovalev, Ryder and Ribeiro that saved us. Theodore hasn't done a good thing since winning his Vezina.

Ribeiro sucked in the playoffs, and his actions, with the fake diving and shit almost cost us. I'd get rid of that little pansy.
Theodore did not choke against the B's, cuz if he did, we would have not made the second round, plain as. As for choking against TB, they were better than us, that's just a fact. You dont choke against the top ranked team in the conference. Come on man, you cant show how biased you are being this badly.

Adder 07-22-2005 07:39 PM

Lots of team choked against Tampa then I guess. CALGARY CHOKED!!

Litle bit out of like Kapoutman

Kapoutman 07-23-2005 12:03 AM

All right. I'll admit I exxagerated on the "choking against Tampa" stuff, but he did choke against Boston. Have you watched TV or read the papers during the playoffs? Everybody was trying to find reasons why he sucked. "Maybe it's his family life", "Maybe it's the trade rumours" and so on. The bottom line is he did suck. I don't like his style, and we could find about 15 better goalies in the NHL at this moment.

Zen v.W.o. 07-23-2005 12:08 AM

He didn't suck. In the first couple of games people were making mention that he wasn't as sharp as he was 2 years before against the B's, and that is true. But then he started picking it up, and they ripped through the B's. The B's still took lots of shots on goal, yet they couldnt put the puck in the net.
I dare you to name 15 better goalies. If he sucked, we wouldnt have made it to game 7.
Watch, he'll be great again this season, and then he'll still be over-rated?
