IYO, Worst champ in the past 3 years?

Batista

BTW I'm basing this on overall performance.

Loose Cannon 08-08-2005 10:22 PM

what are you basing this on?

'Cause I'm bored...

WWE - Big Show (placeholder champion, and they barely bothered to pretend he wasn't)

World - Randy Orton (shouldn't have turned him face. Totally unmemorable)

World Tag - Kane and The Hurricane (good comedy stuff, but a 3-week reign)

WWE Tag - Rene Dupree and Kenzo Suzuki (although LoD 3.0 is pretty close)

Intercontinental - Edge (not that he was necessarily a bad champ, but the injury ruined his reign)

United States - Orlando Jordan (and he still has the belt why?)

Women's - Gail Kim (which is a sign of the talent of the girls who have held this belt over the last three years)

Cruiserweight - Jacqueline (easy)

I have to disagree and say LOD 3, The foreigners were good.

They had their moments. I liked Kenzo's trying-to-act-American gimmick, but I was never a big enough fan of his in-ring stuff to take them very seriously.

If Heidenreich and Animal remain champions for a couple of months without some sort of storyline giving them a reason to be, they'll pass Kenzo and Rene easily, but for the time being I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt since they're so new. (RUN-ON SENTENCE! WOOOOOOO!)

Vastardikai 08-09-2005 12:12 AM

Worst in the past three years for me is JBL. The guy can't wrestle, period. Hogan in his prime wasn't exactly Bret Hart, but he could be carried to a good match. JBL, otoh, cannot be carried to anything.

Eddie couldn't carry him, and it killed his WWE Title Reign.

Kurt FREAKING Angle, who could pull a watchable match out of a stick of chewing gum, couldn't carry him.

The guy is just plain DEAD WEIGHT, and yet, because he's good buddies with the Undertaker, and Vince is big on him, he's become the Triple H of Smackdown.

Kane Knight 08-09-2005 12:24 AM

Overall--Big Show.

Direction--Orton. What is it with taking someone who's over and not killing it the WWE doesn't understand.

In the Ring--JBL. He's great on the stick, but shit in the ring. Even less entertaining than Show to me.

On the mic--Batista. But he's a rookie, and his character sahouldn't talk this much, so I'm not panning the guy.

Wow. I didn't name Trips once. Wait.

Nose--Triple H.

I think Eddie and Angle managed to carry him quite well, though I think they were the ONLY ones pretty much who could make him look like anything other than shit.

Psycho C 08-09-2005 12:48 AM

Worst champ for the past three years?

I gotta say JBL.

I mean, if Triple H had held the title for THAT long, I could believe it. But APA's Bradshaw? The man who once lost to Freddie Joe Floyd? C'mon!

Vastardikai 08-09-2005 12:50 AM

Don't front on Freddie Joe Floyd, now. He's a Full Blooded Italian. :shifty:

JUSTIN....HAWK....BRADSHAW!

Jordan 08-09-2005 01:19 AM

Batista, he isn't ready, not at all. Triple H carried him like a hike on a mountain. I went to a house show and watched him and JBL he was soooo awful. Same with the Great American Bash, just awful. I say give the belt to Benoit, push Booker T and give it to him, or the Undertaker.

Vastardikai 08-09-2005 01:19 AM

They should bring out Freddie Jo Floyd for a one time match with JBL, just for humor sake.

Psycho C 08-09-2005 01:21 AM

And have him win, too...just like old times.

JBL could bitch about how he was once a Southerner, but FJF is the precise reason why he turned to a high-class lifestyle.

Dave Youell 08-09-2005 06:33 AM

IMO Orton, not his fault, his turn was pathetic, they should of gone down the same route as Batista with a slow turn, the fact he held it for a month was a joke as well, I swear the only reason they let him have it was they didn't want Brock to be known as there youngest champ.

I actually liked show as champ, I really enjoyed his feud with Brock personally

Or they could have never turned him. The problem was that he really sucked as a babyface.

The Gooch 08-09-2005 08:42 AM

Hogan's title reign in 2002 was pretty awful. Hogan as a special attraction is good, as a champ, not so good.

JBL--I stopped watching Smackdown when he won the title. Great on the mic, but is painful to watch in the ring.

Batista is not very good on the mic, but he gets huge allowances because he looks like he could kick the living shit out of you.

snakeboss 08-09-2005 11:18 AM

Here's my three:

World Heavyweight Champion: Triple H.(He gets this belt about four times a year, I bought a load of WWE dvd's recently, and he's main eventing all of them.

WWE Champion: John Cena. (His gimmick was much better heel. He's becoming plain and boring)

US Champion: Orlando Jordan. (Why does he still have the belt?)

BigDaddyCool 08-09-2005 12:28 PM

Orton, he is just so lackluster

Kane Knight 08-09-2005 12:30 PM

So you like flashy, homosexual champions then?>

Chavo Classic 08-09-2005 12:51 PM

Benoit had no opportunity to shine during his run, with exception of the Backlash triple threat. Other than that and a quickie-feud with Kane he had nothing to do. So, as it pains me to say, Benoit has probably had the worst title run in the last three years.

As for the worst champion, by their own accord and not through shitty booking, I'd have to say OJ. Why this man has a job, let alone a title, is beyond me.

UmbrellaCorporation 08-09-2005 01:21 PM

Cena for me.

I hate the gimmick, and while I won't doubt his ability to get a crowd going, I can't stand him at all.

Eunos 08-09-2005 01:29 PM

hmm

JBL - Admitingly he was entertaining on the Mic. But in the ring.. Well he was the furthest thing from a Wrestling God

Orlando Jordan - His U.S Title reign has lasted way too long.. His shown no credibilty and the Belt is a fucking joke around his waist. There are more deserving wrestlers on the roster.

Chavo Classic 08-09-2005 01:30 PM

Cena's entertaining and he's had some decent battles with JBL and Jericho, so I wouldn't say he's had a bad reign.

AJHayes 08-09-2005 01:30 PM

Orton and JBL.

Rob 08-09-2005 01:36 PM

JBL or Hogan

UmbrellaCorporation 08-09-2005 02:57 PM

I also forgot to mention (as several of you have said) Orlando Jordan.

How many times has he defended the belt? 2? 3?

Give it to someone who can do better with it. Ironically, that's about 98% of the Smackdown roster.

Psycho C 08-09-2005 03:04 PM

Definitely Orlando Jordan. And to have him beat Benoit with no build-up for his own character was just awful.

It's bad enough that Benoit has been dropped down to midlevel status, but to have him lose to a guy whose credibility as US Champion is based solely on the guys he defends against, there's something wrong.

Chavo Classic 08-09-2005 03:39 PM

I was actually hoping that Orlando would beat Benoit first time round, then maybe they could build up a mini feud that would give OJ a little credibility and then, in turn, Benoit's eventual victory would mean more.

The first part came off, but then wait, OJ and Benoit don't start the fussin and the feudin. What the fuck? What was the point of the match at GAB if they weren't going to build on it. Now Benoit wrestles in the midcard with no meaning and without a belt and OJ still carries around the gold. Wasssup wit' dat?

Corkscrewed 08-09-2005 03:41 PM

Hogan was the first thing in my mind. OJ is right behind him.

Agreed on most of these. I'd put Hulk Hogan '02 over The Big Show though...
not only was THAT face turn ridiculous (the nWo existed for all of a month on Raw after all that crap Vince said about them) but the fact that HHH dropped the belt and put on a "sad" act about it that no one really bought just sealed one of the darkest periods in WWE history.

and HHH is the World Title W.O.A.T. Orton is #2 though. He really should have never gone face. As a heel, Orton is infinitely better. Yeah, he kept Benoit from jobbing to HHH but...in retrospect, I wish he would have just dropped it back to HHH or something.

Loose Cannon 08-10-2005 10:27 PM

Sad thing is I don't remember Show being World Champ, nor Hurricane/Kane being tag champs, nor Kenzo/Dupre being champs.

I remember Show being a kick ass US Champ though. He like never defended it, but he still kept that thing strong. They should really start putting these US and IC belts on former champs like Benoit, Guerrero, Angle, HBK etc... Makes the things look a bit stronger.

Nark Order 08-10-2005 10:37 PM

Cena. They're trying to build him as another Austin and it just isn't working. To me it doesn't seem like he's worth anything. The other talents on RAW completely overshadow him IMO

Nark Order 08-10-2005 10:39 PM

BTW, Orlando should drop the belt to Christian

WWE shouldn't be trying to use the Austin model....he was doing fine as John Cena before he got so blatantly babyfaced. We all thought Raw would allow him to be the way he used to be...but it only lasted for 2 days. They took away Cena's sitout F.U. and his promos/interviews have lacked somewhat...

MVP 08-11-2005 12:15 AM

Orton was the worst World Champ. Had he stayed heel and feuded with a face HHH it would've been way better.

JBL was the worst WWE champ. He was entertaining, but he couldn't draw and made the title look like shit for almost an entire year.

Skippord 08-11-2005 01:07 AM

Goldberg

Fox 08-11-2005 01:23 AM

Breaking the rule: Chris Jericho in 2001. Such a horrible championship run, and I don't blame any of it on Jericho himself, but on the way he was booked. Every championship match he was in ended in a DQ or a cheap finish. He was never given a true title defense, and his title victory was even done with help. Such a fuck up.

In the past 3 years, I'm going to say John Cena. I haven't given a shit less about Cena since he won the belt. Like I give a fuck about his new "spinner" belt, or dumping animal intestines on top of JBL. Like I give a fuck about his flirtations with the idiot backstage interviewer on RAW. Like I give a flying fuck about John Cena, the rapper who doesn't rap anymore, and all of his white goody pop-pop antics. Fuck John Cena.

At least JBL ripped people apart on the mic. That was entertaining. I could sit through his 20 minute ass fucks on PPV as long as he ripped people for 20 minutes every Thursday night on Smackdown. I even enjoyed Randy Orton for his short duration as champion, as I was still an Orton mark after Summerslam. But seriously, fuck John Cena and his white fish rap bullshit. I hope Chris Jericho wins the title at Summerslam.

Savio 08-11-2005 01:26 AM

Cena did good on judgement day.

Taker Fan 08-11-2005 05:33 PM

Orton's title reign could have been much better if he stayed heel and kicked HHH out of Evolution, and HHH being the top face for a bit. But, I'm a big fan of Orton so I enjoyed him being champ, but his character was pretty bad for that little face run he had.
But, as the worst champ in the past 3 years, I'd have to say JBL. Like some others have said, his mic skills are gold, but his in-ring work is poor.

Aussie Skier 08-12-2005 01:06 AM

HHH - i hated his reign when he lost the title and got it back at the elimination chamber...just all seemed pointless to me (altho it did set up the whole batista-HHH thing i suppose

Savio 08-12-2005 01:27 AM

Edge shoulda held the title up untill the chamber

Fox 08-12-2005 02:12 AM

no, because his title victory is going to be "special" like Chris Benoit's and Chris Jericho's. not something done on RAW - probably at a Summerslam or Royal Rumble or maybe a WrestleMania in a non-main event title match.

oh, and Cena did do good at Vengeance - but who wouldn't do good in a triple threat match with Jericho and Christian? you'd have to be someone like Lita to botch that combination.

Sadistic 08-12-2005 11:26 AM
