Day of Reckoning 2

It's just over two weeks until it hits stores and there's not a thread for it? Damn.

Disturbed316 08-14-2005 05:36 PM

There was one for Day Of Reckoning 2, dunno if it is the same thing though :-\

I'm buying that.

Mike the Metal Ed 08-15-2005 12:19 AM

I can't afford a Cube, so I've entered a competition to win a Cube and this game, won't win though. :(

Kane Knight 08-15-2005 03:06 AM

I must have it.

To see Pearl Jam at the gorge?

Kane Knight 08-15-2005 03:10 PM

This is one of the games I was tempted ot pre-order. I only didn't because the Stacy poster isn't really that big a deal (LEast last year you got a mini strategy guide), and it'll probably be on the shelves. So no rush, though I'll likely grab it the first day it's out.

Scarface 08-17-2005 04:56 AM

The game should be good, I've been playing DoR since I got it, so Im looking forward to this.

Team Sheep 08-17-2005 08:06 PM

I'll just wait for SD vs RAW me thinks.

Savio 08-17-2005 08:22 PM

I'll get this when I get a revolution.

Tornado 08-18-2005 01:30 PM

I enjoyed DOR1 WAY more than SDvRaw, and this looks to better the original DOR. It'll keep me tied over until SDvRaw2006.

UmbrellaCorporation 08-19-2005 01:52 PM

Okay, I have a question here.

I tried downloading videos from IGN, and got a few of them. Looked pretty smooth, right?

Well, I wanted to see if Christian has "Just Close Your Eyes" by Waterproof Blonde as a theme, but it's the only video that won't work.

Anyone else know if he has that song, or have a link to the video?

Disturbed316 08-19-2005 05:19 PM

Sssssh, don't tell anyone, special Insider download link ;)

Oh gay, they must have changed things. You could just copy the link last year.

Anyway, it doens't have any music, just crowd noise so you aren't missing much.

UmbrellaCorporation 08-28-2005 06:22 PM

I did find out that pretty much all the themes ARE up to date, including Christian's. It didn't work, but I appreciate the effort on your part, Disturbed.

Yeah, I think this is going to smoke SvR 2006 horribly. I still play both of them, but something about DoR is FAR better to me.

Kane Knight 08-28-2005 06:56 PM

SVR will smoke it, because it's on the PS2, it's got more matches, and it's got online.

Not that it'll be better, but it'll kill DoR in sales, because you could shit in a box, call it "faggotopia online," and sell a trillion copies because it's got ONLINE PLAY!

Kane Knight 08-28-2005 06:57 PM

The funny thing is people complained about DoR's story mode, how SVR was superior.

And yet, the story mode is pretty shitty, so why brag? Voiceovers make it pretty linear, it seems so short, and it's boring.

Thats true, but of the two piles of shit, SvR wasn't as bad. I agree with you though that bragging is useless because both story modes were terrible.

Funky Fly 08-28-2005 09:32 PM

The only time voice overs would be important in a wrestling game, IMO, would be in the ring. Remember in WCW/nWO: Revenge? Macho Man had his "Oh Yeah" and Sting had his little "Whoooo". That was a nice touch.

Funky Fly 08-28-2005 09:32 PM

Also, when is this shit out? Tuesday?

I wouldn't mind voiceover commentary if it wasn't so fucking WEAK either.

Makes me wish I had some money.

UmbrellaCorporation 08-29-2005 06:31 PM

I either get mine at Hastings tomorrow after college, or early Thursday morning before college.

If I don't have it by then, I'm going to the next town over and getting it Friday afternoon. Not missing this.

I liked SVR okay, and this'll sound fanboyish, but the fact that it was on PS2 killed it for me. Essentially, it amounted to:

*HBK throws a punch.*

*Now loading....*

*He's tuning up the band!*

*Now loading....*

One thing that made DoR so awesome was the gameplay. Not to mention the fact that it had a FAR superior CAW to SvR.

Gonna get it this week.

KingofOldSchool 08-30-2005 03:59 AM

Getting it tomorrrrroooow errr I guess later today if you want to be specific.

Xero 08-30-2005 03:18 PM

I just got it. It's pretty damn great, a real improvement over last year. The only problem I have is the stamina meter. I just had Paul London vs. Chavo in a Ladder match (BTW, London's entrance is so short that Chimmel doesn't get all the way though it when it's a gimmick match...) and London kept getting worn down, even within the first 30 seconds. I guess I just need to get used to the new system.

Also, Batista doesn't have his current music or pyro, but his WrestleMania 21 dance is in!

Team Sheep 08-30-2005 05:44 PM

What's season mode like guys?

V 08-30-2005 05:58 PM

damn eb didn't get it here t0day

xero, can you switch camera view to behind the ring rather than to the side?

Xero 08-30-2005 06:17 PM

I haven't tried season yet as CAW seems pretty deep.

As for the camera, you have three to choose from. Default, which is the side/WWE TV angle, behind the announcer's desk, and a new diagonal view from the back right turnbuckle.

Also, the blood system is GREAT. There are three stages, the first is where there's a little blood on the face, the second stage the blood gets a bit worse (I THINK that there's a second stage. If not visually, blood starts to drip to the mat a bit worse), and the third stage it's on their chest. The best part about it are the mat stains when the blood drips from a move/strike, but they fade after a few seconds. Also, I had Triple H bleeding so badly (third stage) that he was losing blood by just standing around.

Team Sheep 08-30-2005 06:18 PM

I wasn't intending on getting this, but seeing as it's only £25, why not eh.

V 08-30-2005 06:31 PM

sweet just what i was hoping for, thanks xero

Funky Fly 08-30-2005 11:15 PM

Haven't played any actual matches yet, but I'll do the pros & cons now (and finish up later).

PROS
- For starters, there are only 2 licensed songs as opposed to the 8 (?) from the first DoR. This is good because the first DoR had only 1 good song in the soundtrack. The new background music is generic, but not bad enough to make me mute it like before. Also, more room for other stuff.

- The models aren't so shiny anymore. In the last DoR, even the clothes were shiny. :wtf:

- CAW has been expanded. Not just more outfits, but a more in depth mask editor and a new ability system that determines the moves you can actually do.

- Speaking of moves, the new ones are sssssssssick. TTD anyone? Also, you are now able to pull off more powerful moves from weak grapples (probably at a cost of Stamina draining faster).

- It is way easier to use the crate an entrance, now that they mention which camera angle does what. Also, the lighting has never looked better.

CONS
- WTF? Batista's new music isn't in the game :'(

- The legends have theme music, apparently (Real American was mentioned in the book credits)

- WTF did they do to the Afros hairstyles? They look terrible :'(

- Why is the only black character template for sale in the shop? Do you know how long it took to custom make a skin color that doesn't look like the guy is made of chocolate?

- It takes way too long for the game to load any time you make a cosmetic change to your CAW. Like 20 seconds too long.

- No new pyro in the entrances except for Chrs Masters

V 08-30-2005 11:17 PM

i  you, Funky

Funky Fly 08-30-2005 11:30 PM

Gone Mad 08-30-2005 11:56 PM

I was playing the game earlier today and man... I can't rave enough. The blood in that game is just awesome, it makes you fear getting busted open because when I was bleeding for hours with JBL, he was a wreck! He couldn't move after awhile, just bleed like crazy. Some of the moves are sick, the look in some of the shots just beautiful, and it's just plain fun. And Xtian's theme is in it!

I didn't like the Stamina feature. It's not bad, but dammnnnn.. if you're not a great player, prepared to be on the mat for hours, especially if you're a high-flyer. It's alot of work to keep it up, but you do get tired after awhile. No Batista new theme and only 4 people on the screen at times. Plus, the ref can be a pain since he is always knocked around, but... he can be a great factor.

Anyways, great game. I'd suggest it for those hated all the other GC WWE games, because this is the best it can get and it's pretty damn good. Those with a PS2, you may wanna wait, but I'd stick with DOR2.

Funky Fly 08-31-2005 05:04 AM

Yeah, the AI has gotten better at reverals and breaking up holds. But now they do this thing where they will just stand there ad look at your carcass, even if they are not trying to build stamina..

PorkSoda 08-31-2005 11:14 AM

This game sounds like its total kickass. I watched Chris Masters entrance on IGN, they almost had the timing right with his poses and music, if they slowed him down more they would have got it. I'd get this game if I had a Gamecube

Team Sheep 08-31-2005 12:13 PM

Yeah, Masters' poses are actually off by quite a bit. :-\

Team Sheep 08-31-2005 01:20 PM

Funky Fly 08-31-2005 01:38 PM

That would require that I buy a PS2. That would require that I trade in all the shit I have now as well as spending more money on top of that. That sucks.

D†G 08-31-2005 02:46 PM

My friend copped the game...Brung it over....

Finally, something other than "No Mercy" that has my attention completely during gameplay....

UmbrellaCorporation 08-31-2005 10:30 PM

I picked this up today, and it's HOT.

It's hard as hell though. Reversal-wise, anyway.

Funky Fly 08-31-2005 10:47 PM

Ok, Pros & Cons of the gameplay...

PROS
- The AI is smarter... way smarter. They break up submissions before you even have them applied now. They whip you into their corner when they want to tag in and out. They break up particularly devastating moves, to keep you from gaing an advantage in 4 way matches. Brilliant.

- The learning curve is better than in the original DoR. Instead of just making you do specific tasks, this time, you start off with the first few guys being relatively easy but gradually increasing in difficulty. This lets you feel out the AI to better prepare you for real matches.

- The story line is like a real (and dare I say fantastic) WWE angle. The dialog sounds sort of like what the actual wrestlers might say on tv. Best of all, you're not just some pussy who takes everyone's shit anymore (taking a lead pipe to the back of Edge's head for hitting on your girl? God damn, son!). Also, there are minor choices every now and then, such as which partner or opponent you want to fight with.

- The match layout during the story is great. So far, I've had hardcore matches, cage matches (one of them a 4 way), a tornado tag match and a bra and panties match, and I'm not even 20 shows in yet. Yeah, Stacy Keibler is your girl and you get to control her at least once so far. Also, you don't wrestle every night. Obviously, no wrestler wrestles every night on RAW and I'm glad they've captured that. You do still make promo appearances, though.

- The stamina meter adds difficulty to the game. You can't just bulldoze your way through an opponent with extremely tough moves or you will tire out (ie. you can't move, which = bad news late in a tough match).

- The reversals have been greatly improved. Before some styles were almost identiclal, save for one or 2 particular reversals (eg. Edge's and Benjamin's). Now there is more variety, as the existing styles have been expanded and there are more individual reversal styles to choose from.

- You can now get tied up in the ropes facing out of the ring as well as th original inwards way. Nice touch there. Adds realism. :y:

- The blood system. I had Edge in the corner while he was bleeding and pummeled his head with repeated kicks. When he finally fell down, there was a pool of blood where he was standing. Definitely better than the "mist" from DoR.

CONS
- The submission system. Before I shit all over it, let me say this: the overhaul is not bad, it's just not as good as it could have been. The system gives you four options when applying a submission: taunt (which drains spirit), drain (which drains stamina), submit (which actually weakens the particular body part[s]for a quicker sumbission) and rest hold (which fills up your stamina meter, you'll be using this a lot). That's all well and good, but I was under the assumption that you would have a different submission for each, thus allowing you to be some kind of Dean Malenko "man of 1000 holds" wannabe. Oh well.

- Moments of retardation on the part of the AI. Sometimes they stand there and do nothing for a long time when you are knocked down. Then they will have a delayed reaction and over compensate when you finally get up. The ref is dumber than ever too. He seems to enjoy walking directly into your line of sight when you are busting out a particularly strong attack. Also, why is he selectable? He just wastes precious moments while you are trying to cycle through opponents you are facing.

- Speaking of targeting, why is the C stick still used for that? It's very inaccurate. I preferred the Z button methon from WM XIX. I realize it's also the tag button, but how hard is it to make tagging done by holding R and pressing Z?

- Withstanding strikes. When you hold down R, you can now puff your chest out and take it like a man (just like in the N64 games) without receiving damage. I find it just makes it easier to be a pussy. It's not that hard to time reversals.

- It's a little too easy to knock people out with weapons now. You have to take it easy now.

Not random. It's in the manual:

Austin - 5 singles exhibition match wins
Mankind - 10 singles exhibition match wins
Bret Hart - 20 singles exhibition match wins
The Rock - 20 shows in story mode
Hulk Hogan - complete story mode

Also, The Rock isn't current Rock, it's him from around his face turn against the Corporation. Sideburns and no arm/chest tattoo.

You guys suck. That match was easy. Just float like a butterfly and sting like a bee (ie. a weak grapple here, a combo there and keep moving). Save up a couple of specials, then when everyone is tired, lay them all out with your hardest shit and escape.

Shadow 09-01-2005 01:13 AM

I've been wanting, and wishing, for a cage match that can end with a pinfall or submission. I hate almost breaking my controller by mashing buttons. Looks like my hopes...they are in vain.

V 09-01-2005 01:19 AM

I'm pissed off at CAW mode, it seems like they load the ENTIRE Caw everytime you make the smallest change, I am switching between making a CAW and watching TV just because of this... CAW is my favourite thing in the game so its' a big dissapointment

also, they removed the hair i always use for my main caw, WTFFFFFFFFFF, all the hair styles suck :(

other than that, no complaints here, i love that you can switch camera angles to the old way... SvR was terrible because you couldn't (imo). Hopefully SvR 2k6 has this camera angle switch mode too. Also, Stamina is gay... you can turn it off in SvR 2k6, so why didn't they add that ability here?

The graphics are amazing, gameplay is nice although a bit slower, i am loving fatal four way last man standing, it's almost like the sweet battle royal option in WMX8.... oh one more complaint, i dislike how they removed that flash when you do a reversal.

Don't forget the tribal tats.

(Though I gotta admit, I use them for my Eenjun...Mostly because I'm too lazy to come up with my own in the editor...)

Nothing says "indian" like a generic tribal tattoo like you can find on every white boy in LA.

Jaton 09-01-2005 02:44 PM

Fuck referees. I swear, everytime I'm getting pummeled for like ten minutes straight, I'll get up finally, and then go to do a weak grapple to turn the tides. Of course, it's as if the ref takes the bullet. EVERY FUCKING TIME HE GETS IN MY GOD DAMNED WAY!

And fuck Theodore Long too. Putting me on Velocity, the nerve. :|

Kane Knight 09-01-2005 02:50 PM

KingofOldSchool 09-01-2005 03:03 PM

Funky Fly 09-01-2005 03:23 PM

Take my advice with the 4 way. It's not that hard if you spread the punishment evenly and keep moving. Also, it's ok to do submissions in this match because you can't win that way, therefore they don't break it up.

Whatever, it's called Schizophrenic on Anthology.

I'm not entirely sure. Next time I play I'll check. I doubt it, though.

That's a good thing in my opinion. Getting blasted with a chair is usually a match ender. I remember in previous wrestling games, I had to hit the person ten god damn times for it to knock the guy out. Unless you are re-creating rock/austin at wm 17, it's pretty pathetic.

Xero 09-01-2005 04:48 PM

Yeah, I like how they stay down longer now, especially with finishers. In DOR, I had Randy Orton vs. Triple H and it took about ten RKOs IN A ROW to keep him down. Triple H jokes aside, that's bullshit.

Also, the piano music isn't in for Mankind.

KingofOldSchool 09-01-2005 07:36 PM

Also, Randy Orton's pyro looks like Gillbergs pyro (aka people set up sparklers by the entrance). :nono:

I do that.

Everyone except me got into the red body zone, busted open and everything. I start giving out my finisher to everyone but by the time I get to climbing the cage, the first wrestler I gave the finisher to comes over and knocks me off the cage. And then sometimes after each finisher another guy gets up and comes after me or they prevent me from doing my finisher on someone else.

I almost had it one time, but after 25 minutes of pounding the A button like a cheap whore, HBK came over and knocked me down at the last second.

Destor 09-01-2005 07:55 PM

Anyone notice you can take your guy though carrer mode twice and max every thing out?

That made me laugh.

Well...did you win?

Running finishers = ratings.

One of the main complaints about DoR was how long people stayed down (Except when in "No sell" mode, but that was a different complaint) Are you telling me they INCREASED the time?

Funky Fly 09-01-2005 10:48 PM

Yeah, weapons are deadly now. And yeah, it takes forever to get up. And the AI will be all over you as soon as you're up.

Kane Knight 09-02-2005 12:18 AM

That's lame. Not the weapons bit, because they should be devastating. But staying down forever is shit.

UmbrellaCorporation 09-02-2005 12:39 AM

*SPOILERS* Highlight to read.

ROFL, has anyone seen the storyline where Edge steals your love interest? I literally laughed out loud when that happened.
