|
Who was the goalie that slicked his hair back? I can't rememeber his name. I think he was on the MetroStars. I know he played for Team USA for a while. That guy is my favorite soccer player
|
There are ONLY 4 major sports.....
Hockey: Tony Amonte Baseball: Frank Thomas Basketball: Deron Williams (played for Illinois, drafted by Utah) NFL Football: Steve "Air" McNair |
You don't have to like soccer, but saying it isn't a major sport makes you look incredibly stupid
|
Hockey: Yzerman
Baseball: Halladay(pitcher) Vlad(player) Football: Doug Flutie! Basketball: Steve Nash Soccer: Fabien Barthez (N/A) |
The other thing that makes you look stupid is being a Frank Thomas fan.
I'm not sure which goalie had slicked back hair. Maybe Tony Meola? There have really only been two or three primary US goalies in the past couple years, Casey Keller, Brad Friedel, and not Howard. Another thing, in a recent ESPN the magazine, there was a big feature on David Beckham and with it there was some other soccer stuff. One thing they had was the All-World team from right now, and they had Keller to be the top goalie in the world. I'll admit, I haven't paid real close attention to the UEFA leagues in a while, but I can't imagine that Casey Keller is the best goalie in the world right now. By the way, his cousin is a professor at my school. |
yea, Tony Meola

Hockey: Is Mario Lemieux still playing?
Baseball: Greg Maddux (pitcher) Ichiro (player) Basketball: Shaquille O'Neal (don't watch very much, but he's exciting) NFL Football: Deion Sanders (alltime) Fred Taylor (present) Soccer: Freddy Adu AKA I don't watch it |
haha yea Tony Meola - that guy was the man
|
Tony Meola was a fat bastard.
|
didn't Meola try out for the New York Jets?
|
Hockey: Joe Sakic
Baseball: Todd Helton Basketball: Kenyon Martin NFL Football: Rod Smith/Bradlee Van Pelt at the moment Soccer: Pfft... |

Fuck an apology. Soccer is NOT a major sport here in the states, plain and simple. Whether or not I like it, doesn't really matter. Shit, even fucking NASCAR is bigger that that. And if NASCAR isn't a sport... soccor gets no major respect from me. |
Yeah he was good at punting or something, I thought it was the Eagles though?

Frank Thomas, Chicago White Sox, 15 year stats Games: 1959 AB: 6956 R: 1327 H: 2136 2B: 447 3B: 11 HR: 447 RB!: 1456 SB: 32 AVG: .307 OBP: .427 SLG: .568 From 1990 to 2000, he only hit under .300 once and hit over .340 three times. In the same time period he hit 40 or more HR four times, and failed to hit atleast 20 only twice (once being his first year with the team). He also had atleast 100 RBI in all but 2 seasons during that stretch. Had one of the all time best SLG % of .729 (he is ranked 16th all time for career SLG % and 10th in OBP) in 1994, but the season was cut short due to the player's strike. He is also a 5 time all star, a 4 time AL silver slugger, and a 2 time MVP (he came close a 3rd time in 2000 but was beat out by Jason Giambi in his steriod years). Oh yeah.... rooting for this guy for 15 years makes me a HUGE fucking idiot. |
soccer is the #2 Youth Sport in the US just so you know.
|
I think that because most kids can't just go out and play hockey or drive a car around in a circle 400 times might have something to do with the LC
|
WTF? Why are you bringing up those sports when there is football, swimming, baseball, softball, lacrosse and track/field too? Makes zero sense
|
Football: Roy Keane
Golf: Vijay Singh Rugby: Paul O'Connell Snooker: Ronnie O'Sullivan |
Quote:
Nope. Soccer still isn't "major" here in the US. |
Just using hockey and NASCAR(although I don't consider it a sport) as examples. They aren't that more popular than soccer in the US(hockey anyways), but they're aren't as easy to play as soccer.
Also, swimming, lacrosse and track and field weren't being discussed(not that I saw anyways) so I didn't include them |
lol, some socccer player steal your lunch money or something?
|
Who specified the US anyway, faggot. It'd be a decent bet that golf is more popular than all of those sports.

Eh, really just meant in regards to major US sports, not youth. So just ignore any point I've tried to make. I REALLY should think before I post, sorry
Also, I don't really know who ECG's comments were direct at so.... |

Golf is 100x the "major" sport here than soccer will ever be. |
Hockey: Chris Chelios (Since Roy's been retired for a couple of years. :'()
Baseball: David Ortiz Basketball: Dirk Nowitzki Football: Peyton Manning Soccer: Ummmm Mia Hamm. |
I like PLAYING soccer and all, but unless I'm playing I can't get into, no matter how hard I try.
I LOVE golf though, then again, one of those things I just can't watch |
LOL remember when U.S almost won the World Cup like 2 years ago. No, I don't.
|
Yeah but 777 is being a dumbutt here, soccer is the most popular sport in the world and it is obv. a major sport in the world. motherfucker the guy that made this thread is Canadien.

Quote:
personally i don't consider soccer a major sport. it is in other places of the world, but i don't live there. look at me as just the american idiot, but it's my opinion. shit... chicago has one of the top amercian soccer teams going right now. nope.. still don't give a shit |
I'll agree with 490 here. Soccer is likely the most popular sport IN THE WORLD, there's NO arguing that, but as far as I'm concerned, I couldn't honestly care any less

It didn't specify, but I'll keep it to active players.
Hockey: Tony Amonte (but I have a feeling after this season it could be Patrice Bergeron) Baseball: Roger Clemens Basketball: Antione Walker i guess, maybe Tim Duncan NFL Football: Would have been Ted Johnson, now... hmm... Richard Seymor or Ray Lewis (but still a soft spot for Drew Bledsoe) Soccer: I dunno, who was the chick that took of her shirt when they won the cup? |
Oh, and not to keep this off-topic but on "major sports" issue.
As well known, I'm not a big soccer fan, however it's following world wide can not be argued. When discussing the "most popular" sports, the difficult part is what you choose to decide. Is it money spent on the sport by fans, ie: jerseys, food at games, products to play (balls, pads, sticks, etc..). Is it people who attend in person? Is it people who watch on TV? Is it people who actually play. My opinion, it has to be "people who actually play". Since not everyone has the opportunity to spend money, attend, watch sporting events. Not everyone has the money to buy a ticket or jersey, not everyone live near a pro football (nfl) or hockey game, not everyone has a TV etc... Now, when it comes to "people who play" you'll find a huge following, although as I've debated on here before, I still contend it has a lot to do with cost/ease of playing on a pickup level vs other sports. You will also find Basketball high on this list and in the top 10 (maybe 20) sports we never considered such as Volleyball, Table Tennis, Dragon Boat Racing, heck even Team Handball puts in a claim. Of course, there is no easy way to track "who plays" so we turn to Dollars and in the US, while many kids play soccer (which has a lot to do with parents feeling it's a "safe sport" vs. Football or Hockey, also the costs involved) it hasn't made it to the major level, I can only speak for the local pro soccer team, but do any of the MLS teams come close to selling out their stadiums? The only time Soccer sells out or comes closer around here is a world cup qualifier type things or a game involving teams from other countries, and the places fill up with people from thouse countries, but very few americans. |

Football: Thurman Thomas, Steve Young, the 2 I named deion and moss, and Barry Sanders Baseball: Vladdy, Mark McGwire Basketball: Kobe, Nash, Magic Soccer: Ronaldo and Baggio |

Hockey: Mario Lemieux/Guy Lafleur Baseball: Vladimir Guerrero/Larry Walker Basketball: Steve Nash/Isiah Thomas Football: Brett Favre/Doug Flutie (CFL days) Soccer: David Beckham/Baggio Golf: Mike Weir/Greg Norman |
It is kind of surprising that so many people have listed Larry Walker. Is it a Canadian thing or was he like the man before I paid much attention to baseball? I know he was real good like averagewise, but I mean like the actual man, like Anybody Thrilla.
|
Larry is the fucking man
|
He was the NL MVP in 1997 so yes, he was the man. Check out his numbers from 1995 to 2001.
