College Football Thread 2005-2006

It officially starts today. It's only 12:50 so no final scores yet. But Iowa is looking real good and Bowling Green is beating Wisconsin right now.

Penn State at 3:30...

RP 09-03-2005 03:32 PM

This Rb on Rutgers just leaped over a linebacker in open feild and ran the ball for a 70yrd td. It was sick. He was white too.

RP 09-03-2005 03:35 PM

TCU is beating the Sooners 10-7 with 8 minutes to go in the 3rd.

Rain Man 09-03-2005 03:54 PM

Even though Bowling Green is loosing their QB Jenkins is defiantly a Heisman Canidate.

Gonzo 09-03-2005 04:04 PM

Notre Dame plays at 8 but I'll be at the Motley Crue concert. Give and take a little I guess.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-03-2005 04:21 PM

Boston College at 3:30. Hopefully gonna get to see my boy do some work today on some mormon motherfuckers

Joey Slugs 09-03-2005 04:44 PM

TCU is still up on OU late in the 4th.

The Miz 09-03-2005 05:11 PM

Go Huskies

The Miz 09-03-2005 05:22 PM

Everyone should post predictions of their team

@ Air Force - W
Cal - L, hopefully we can stay within 50 points
Idaho - W
Notre Dame - L
@ UCLA - L
@ Oregon - L
USC - L
@ Az State - L
Oregon State - W
@ Arizona - L
Wash State - WIN BABY

4-7, on the positive side we will have quadrupled our wins from last year.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-03-2005 07:35 PM

Oklahoma's offense looked horrible. Their QB played awful, they are gonna be in real trouble if teams throw 8 men in the box. They lost a lot from last season though, starting QB, atleast 2 lineman probably more, and 3 wideouts.

Joey Slugs 09-03-2005 10:24 PM

2005 Notre Dame football:

9/3 - @ #25 Pitt (W)
9/10 - @ #4 Michigan (L)
9/17 - Michigan State (W)
9/24 - @ Washington (W)
10/1 - @ #16 Purdue (L)
10/15 - #1 USC (W, Yes that IS a win)
10/22 - BYU (W)
11/5 - #3 Tennessee (W)
11/12 - Navy (W)
11/19 - Syracuse (W)
11/26 - @ Stanford (W)

9-2, Top 15, and a Jan. 2nd bowl game

Joey Slugs 09-03-2005 10:31 PM

ND over Pitt 35-13 @ the half.

Fuck Tyler Palko, Charlie Weis is a GOD!

Rally sons of Notre Dame
Sing her glory and sound her fame
Raise her Gold and Blue
And cheer with voices true:
Rah, rah, for Notre Dame
We will fight in every game,
Strong of heart and true to her name
We will ne'er forget her
And will cheer her ever
Loyal to Notre Dame.

Cheer, cheer for Old Notre Dame,
Wake up the echoes cheering her name,
Send a volley cheer on high,
Shake down the thunder from the sky!
What though the odds may be great or small,
Old Notre Dame will win over all,
While her loyal sons are marching
Onward to victory!

I'm going against the grain for sure, but it's not a "homer" issue. Charlie Weis is an offensive guru and the two hardest defenses he will face this year are Michigan and Purdue. ND has the offensive power, they just haven't had the right coach to harness it.

They also play USC and Tennessee AT HOME. Which, you might now, gives them a huge advantange... many good teams have left that field with a bit more than just their tail between their legs after a game.

And as for ND beating USC, it's a hard pipe dream... but USC is not unbeatable. No one knows yet how they will fair without Norm Chow against a tough 4-3 defense.

If OU (and they looked like shit doing it) lost to TCU, anyone can lose. It's the beauty of college football.

Joey Slugs 09-03-2005 11:40 PM

I know Pitt is no major top 10 team (but they ARE ranked), but come on... when was the last time ND put up over 500 yards and 40 + points on anyone?

RoXer 09-04-2005 12:37 AM

Joey Slugs 09-04-2005 01:54 AM

and I get called a homer.

Zona St is not allowed to beat USC before ND does.

BCWWF 09-04-2005 03:09 AM

Missouri

Arkansas State W
New Mexico W
Troy W
Texas L
OSU L
Iowa State W
Nebraska W
Kansas W
Colorado L
Baylor W
Kansas State L

We kicked the shit out of Arkansas State, which really shouldn't say much but then again CU barely beat CSU and Iowa State barely beat Illinois State, so thats a good sign. I was in the press box at Arrowhead, fucking amazing. Brad Smith is the fucking man too.

Also, WTF is ESPN doing with the bottom line? Missouri 44 - 14 Arkansas State...Mizzou St. # - # Some fucking team? We are fucking Mizzou, they are Missouri State. They can try to share our state name now, but they in no way can take the Mizzou. That is ours, god damnit.

Rain Man 09-04-2005 12:19 PM

September 3 South Florida W 23-13 1-0 (0-0)
September 10 Cincinnati --- W

October 8 No. 6 Ohio State---L
October 15 at No. 4 Michigan---L
October 22 at Illinois---W
October 29 No. 15 Purdue---L
November 5 Wisconsin---W
November 19 at Michigan State---W

Penn State has the oppurtunity to go 5-0 in their first 5 games. After that they have a tough time with Ohio State than Michigan and than Illinois, Purdue, and Wisconsin all in a row. They need ATLEAST a win against one of those teams go get into a bowl game.

Boomer 09-04-2005 01:05 PM

I went to the Georgia, Boise State game. 20 rows from the hedges.

Orgasmic.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-04-2005 02:26 PM

ND is going to lose to USC for sure. You might be right about all the other shit, but I don't know. USC looks real serious AGAIN.

Georgia and Ohio State looked real good yesterday too, I can't wait for FSU vs Miami Monday night. Gonna be unreal.

RP 09-04-2005 02:32 PM

USC is way to much for ND. Nd will get pounded that game. They could beat Michigan tho. I mean every year Michigan is ranked high and they play ND, they lose.

The Miz 09-04-2005 02:34 PM

Miami-FSU is always alot of hype for a boring 17-10 game. Those 2 teams play eachother way too much and are way too familiar with eachother.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-04-2005 02:44 PM

I disagree. Rivalry games are the shit even if they are low scoring. Watching the defenses will be enough for me. Ernie Sims, AJ Nicholson on FSU - Willie Williams and Anthony Reddick on the U. Hopefully Xavier Lee starts for FSU.

Devin Hester always puts on a show aswell. Plus the Miami QB wears a visor. Thats always a plus haha

VonErich Lives 09-04-2005 09:38 PM

I tell ya, ND is gonna give those top teams a run. Next week will be a good show of if they're for real or not.

That offense looked great, it was the NEP offense, 3 TE sets, 5 WR sets, direct snap, everyone catching the ball, setting up the run with the pass. You'd think Wandstat would have known what to expect. College Defenses are going to see things they have never or rarely seen before going against Notre Dame.

That all being said, USC, I'd like it to happen, just wouldn't put my money there.

The Outlaw 09-04-2005 10:50 PM

Went to the Bama game. Atmosphere is still unreal. Our OLine looked superb, especially in the second half. They were our question mark (along with injuries of course), so I'm pretty happy with that. We got LSU, UT, and UF all at home so I am hoping for a pretty good year.

BCWWF 09-05-2005 03:16 AM

I agree with VEL, I could see Notre Dame being the spoilers for USC. They did look good against Hawaii, but for some reason they just didn't seem super dominant. I guess they didn't start last season real hot though, so who knows.

I like Notre Dame . I root for them when they are not playing Purdue. Honestly come on. USC is going to crush ND. 37-14 USC.

But hey maybe i could be wrong. They have a solid team. Brady Quinn seems to be perfect for this offense. I just think USC is 3 maybe 4 levels above ND. I do think ND has a shot against Michigan. They've had Michigans number the past few years.

We'll have a better idea after this week.

Both teams walked over their first week oppnent.

But who was tougher? Pitt ranked #23 before the game or Hawaii unranked?

Dunno, Michigan will be a test to see where they're at.

Also, don't forget the ND game is at Southbend, that's usually good for a few points.

Joey Slugs 09-09-2005 11:30 PM

BCWWF 09-10-2005 01:18 AM

OK U of Ohio (not even Miami) just beat Pitt.

Look at Nebraska's schedule, the only good opponent left on their schedule is Oklahoma.

The New Mexico buses are at the hotel across the street from my appts. Faurot Field is going to be hoppin tomorrow night, too bad we have to miss the Ohio State and Texas game though.

Go on.

Notre Dame/USC might be a Top 5 game by the time it comes around.

BCWWF 09-10-2005 04:25 PM

Yeah, I'm not just surprised that they won/are winning, but that they are pretty much dominating the No. 3 in the nation. Or whatever No. they are.

Joey Slugs 09-10-2005 04:26 PM

and I had them losing this game.

but holding Michigan to *EDIT* 10 points?

WOW.

SOS isn't even in the BCS anymore. That doesn't matter. Nothing to really brag about anyways. I'm thinking we can get past MSU and Washington, MSU maybe giving us a scare but Purdue worries me right before USC. If we were both undefeated heading into the USC game that would be awesome.

VonErich Lives 09-10-2005 05:53 PM

Wouldn't be shocked to see them drop the game to Purdue and then return the favor against USC.

Defense looked good today, really only one big play given up and a lot of big stops and 3 and outs.

They should have put the game away earlier, both team had some bad drops, but what's up with the Michigan QB getting the ball batted all the time, is he short or just throws at a low angle?

Things keep going like this, I may have to really consider going to the USC/ND game.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-10-2005 06:12 PM

BC with the romp. Brian Toal should play both ways all the time. He had 2 carries on offense and both of them were sick, one of them was a TD.

BCWWF 09-10-2005 06:14 PM

It looks like the Big 10 is going to have another dissapointing season conference wise. Michigan loses, now Iowa, who was supposed to be sweet, is getting handed by ISU. Wisconsin isn't supposed to be good either.

By another dissapointing season, I mean that last year Purdue, Wisconsin, and Minnesota were all on the verge of being national powers before falling from grace last year only to let Michigan win it again. This year it seems like they may not have one dominant team at all.

DrA 09-11-2005 12:42 AM

Texas.

Nervous Ferret 09-11-2005 12:44 AM

RP 09-11-2005 01:00 AM

Has Purdue even played yet or am i missing something?

Nervous Ferret 09-11-2005 01:24 AM

they played today and won, by an ovrewhelming margin. Don't remember who tho. :-\

BCWWF 09-11-2005 01:35 AM

Ugh, our game started out shitty, got awesome, but then our defense broke down and we lost. New Mexico was supposed to be better then us anyway, but we should have won. Brad Smith is fucking unbelievable though.

Also, WTF is Iowa State doing? That messes up everything in the Big 12 North

Gonzo 09-11-2005 03:12 AM

CU will win the Big 12 North

BCWWF 09-11-2005 03:46 AM

I don't know, honestly they weren't that good last year, they won it by default. Mizzou, Nebraska, Kansas, and Kansas State all sucked while Iowa State was a choke. CU has some big questions coming into this year, and they are by no means dominant compared to the other North teams. Realistically I think Nebraska might pull off some upsets. Two of its biggest games are Iowa State and Oklahoma, both at home. Then they don't play Texas or Texas A&M, if they are lucky they could only lose two games this season.

Gonzo 09-11-2005 11:00 AM

I really think the National Championship game could be between two teams with a loss each. The way this season has played so far I think it could very well happen.

BCWWF 09-11-2005 02:36 PM

I dunno, unless Oklahoma gets good or A&M can pull off the upset at home, there isn't any huge barriers in the way of Texas

RoXer 09-11-2005 03:35 PM

Yeah, the LSU/ASU game was fun to watch. Bad ending though.

Little early to make predictions based on "this season". Let's see a few more weeks. Texas looks good, ND looks good but may be playing "over their head", USC looks good.

Nervous Ferret 09-11-2005 11:04 PM

ND moved all the way up to #10

BCWWF 09-13-2005 12:39 AM

Yeah, what it all comes back to is that ND started out 8-0 with Willingham

Gonzo 09-13-2005 12:45 AM

True but, that statistic isn't very clear. Those were most often ugly wins, defensive wins because the offense sucked taint. I think that ND will scoot past MSU, get past Washington as well but Purdue leaves a huge question mark. Probably 4-1 or 3-2 into the USC game, never know.

ND loss hurts, now gotta upset USC and Tennessee to stay in the hunt.

Still think that fumble should have been a TD, he had control in 1 hand when it broke the plane, then the ball came loose

el fregadero 09-18-2005 03:23 AM

That Boston College game had me worried for a while. Weatherford started to get it straight towards the end though.

BCWWF 09-18-2005 04:30 AM

It's funny how high expectations were so early for Notre Dame. What it comes down to is talent, and from what I know they haven't been getting the top talent in the past few years, so they aren't going to win a national title just because of a coaching change.

BCWWF 09-18-2005 05:35 AM

I'm talking about last week, how people were saying national championship? Unseat USC? Pitt sucks, they carried momentum from what was at the time a big win and beat a good but not great Michigan team, which is a good feat, but people jumped on their backs way too hard. They will probably win maybe 8 games this year? But to contend for the national title is still a few years off.

I'm just a ND fan, and it's true, this isn't "charlies team" so it takes a few years to get his recruits in.

Last week was a big win, and I figured they should have beat M-State... figuring with momentum anything can happen and if Tennessee or USC had a "bad day" there's always an upset chance.

But who knows, will anyone besides USC make it undefeated?

Gonzo 09-18-2005 12:45 PM

I'm thinking that USC may be the only undefeated team, how is Texas' schedule the rest of the year?

BCWWF 09-18-2005 01:10 PM

In the predictions we put in the paper we had Texas losing only one game, the season finale at A&M. They have OU at Dallas, then the rest of the Big 12 South, I want to say they play Missouri, Kansas, and maybe Iowa State? I dunno, I think they could.

Jesus Shuttlesworth 09-18-2005 01:31 PM

If Texas can't beat Oklahoma this year then they never will

BCWWF 09-18-2005 02:17 PM

I have a feeling they will slaughter them

The Outlaw 09-19-2005 04:03 AM

Yeah they should beat OU pretty easy. OU lost to TCU who lost to SMU. And then UCLA basically pounded them. People are finally seeing how much importance Jason White carried.

Rain Man 09-22-2005 10:31 PM

The LSU-Tennesse game is moved to Monday because of Rita

BCWWF 09-23-2005 01:25 AM

I take it this is kind of an off-week in football. At least it is in the Big 12.

I might get a phone interview with Vince Young this week though, we are running a feature on him and Brad Smith for Friday's paper since they are apparently friends.

CNM 09-23-2005 01:37 AM

BCWWF 09-23-2005 01:53 AM

:(

You make me sad CNM.

Have you been to a game at CU? I can go, but it would be a 12 hour drive. Even though the paper pays for gas and hotel, thats a helluva drive.

CNM 09-23-2005 02:07 AM

Yeah Folsum Field is awesome. You should make the trip. It's worth it.
