Jagr traded to the Rangers
 

I don't think it's confirmed yet, but many radio stations are reporting that the deal is close to being sealed.

Apparently it looks like Jagr for Nedved, Barnaby, and Lundmark.

I watched a little of the game last night and I don't really know much about hockey but I can just tell the Rangers suck

His career has been going downhill ever since he was traded from the Pens

Nope. Jagr was(is) my favorite player in the NHL and he was the reason I started watching hockey and liking the Pens back in the early 90's. Too bad the Pens couldn't get him back. Lemuiex and Jagr together again. :y:

A few years ago - Who woulda thunk that a team with BOTH Lindros and Jagr wouldn't be such a big deal?

Jagr should do better in New York anyways he'll have better linemates. I haven't heard anything about it yet though.. Isn't this the same rumor from last summer though same guys are involved.

Atleast Jagr may not go to Detroit anymore.

Lindros was one hell of a tough bastard in junior. Don't underestimate his fighting skills.

Sather is rumoured to be on his way out in New York, so this trade isn't as close as done as speculated.

I always hated Jagr on the Capitols

there goes my Jagr to the wings for Joseph trade. But with Hasek hurt there is no chance of that. But what if the Wings traded Hasek for Jagr. Oh man one can only dream.

Heh wow if that's the deal the Caps get a really good return for someone whose heart just isn't there anymore. His best years have passed him.

Jagr is playing real well right now too.

I heard an interview with a Rangers admin. a few months ago, and it put it into perspective. NY is a place where they not only battle for position, but attention. NY is literally a place where you can have a contender and be silent. With the coaching moves with the Nicks and Giants, and the off-season moves by the Yankees, the Rangers need to do something to keep on the back pages and in people's minds. Your talking about millions in revenue being involved. NY will always make the big (unreasonable) moves as long as the media market in NY remains so cut-throat.

TSN has learned that the Washington Capitals have worked out a deal to trade All-Star forward Jaromir Jagr to the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Anson Carter, pending league approval by a trade call.

TSN has also learned the Capitals are picking up approximately $20 million of the remaining $44 million on the contract after this season. Sources have told TSN Jagr has agreed to defer $1 million a year for the balance of the contract. That money is deferred with interest and guaranteed.

Before the restructuring of his contract, Jagr was scheduled to earn $11 million a year in each of the next four seasons beyond this one. There is a club option for a fifth year, also at $11 million, but there ways the fifth year could become guaranteed to Jagr in the event of the following:

-if he scores 40 goals or 90 points and his team wins the first round of the playoffs in the final year of the contract.

-if he scores 80 goals or 180 points in the final two years of the contract and his team wins two rounds of the playoffs.

-if he wins a major award in the final three seasons of the deal or his team wins two Stanley Cups in that time.

The deal between the Caps and Rangers was effectively agreed to yesterday, sources said, but the re-structuring of the contract had to be negotiated this morning between the Rangers and Jagr's agent.

Now Jagr will make $10 million a year for the balance of the contract with $1 million per year deferred with interest. Of that $10 million per year, the Caps are picking up about half for the four year period.

When the Capitals and the Rangers broached the subject in late November, Washington was believed to be willing to assume about $20 million of Jagr's contract.

A six-time first team All-Star, Jagr, 31, is second on the Capitals in scoring this season with 16 goals and 29 assists for 45 points in 45 games.

Carter, who led Canada to a gold medal at the IIHF World Hockey Championship last spring, returns to the team where he made his NHL debut. Carter played 19 games with the Capitals in 1996-97 after being traded from the Colorado Avalanche.

In eight NHL seasons with the Rangers, Capitals, Edmonton Oilers and Boston Bruins, the 29-year old has 153 goals and 174 assists. He has 10 goals and seven assists in 45 games with the Rangers this season.

Jagr has not provided the payoff expected when the Capitals made him the highest paid player in the league. The team failed the reach the playoffs in his first season and was eliminated in the first round by Tampa Bay last year. Attendance has sagged for a franchise that was already losing some $20 million per year.

Jagr has fought sporadic slumps and injuries to average about one point per game with the Capitals, but those numbers are well down from his superstar years with the Penguins.

How does the Carter for Jagr trade not make sense?

Caps are set to dump about 8 mil in salary, and the Rangers get Jagr.

It make perfect sense.

It makes sense, but the Caps could get atleast a bit more than just Carter for Jagr straight up (i.e. a draft pick, etc.).

I'll re-iterate, I'm just glad that Jagr is NOT going to Detroit.

If the Rangers make the playoffs (and I'm assuming if they do, they'll be one of the bottom teams), they could be an EXTREME dark horse team.

well paying 20 million to get rid of him and get carter might not be that bad... If there's a work stoppage why be responsible to owe a guy 22 million and he might not be playing anything. Plus the owner of the caps has money anyways so meh.

I hear Bondra and Gonchar may be on the move too.

One report is Bondra to Ottawa for Shane Hnidy. If that's the case that would be awesome for the Sens but I doubt Bondra will go that cheap though I never thought Jarg would go this cheap either.

TSN.CA: reports the Ottawa Senators are rumoured to be close to obtaining Bondra for winger Antoine Vermette and defenceman Brian Pothier.

Why would Jagr have gone to Detroit for Joseph? Isn't Olaf Kolzig one of the better NHL goalies? If he were ever to go to Detroit I would assume it would be from the Rangers, who could use Joseph more.

Washington's owner wants to start fresh basically.

.. I hope Vancouver makes a bid for Bondra or Gonchar. If they can be gotten on the cheap like Jagr was, well dammit they need to do something to take the next step.
