NFL 2005 Season Thread

yeah noticed the other was a "preview", so I guess this is for the season.

Raiders/Pats in like 10 mins

The Icon of Elisim 09-08-2005 09:42 PM

Who is everyone betting on this weekend. I like Carolina, Cinci, Minnesota and St Louis to cover the spreads. My friend is pretty confident in New England and Denver but I don't know what to expect from Denver this season and the Pats spread is too big for me to take against a team like Oakland.

Good game so far. Oakland's run defense looks pretty solid in the first quarter and the Pats TE looks like a stud.

LOL Branch just made a big play, Oakland's secondary is awful

The Icon of Elisim 09-08-2005 09:44 PM

11 minutes in and Brady has thrown for 100+ yards and that doesn't even count two overthrown balls

The Answer 09-08-2005 10:11 PM

RANDY FUCKIN MOSS!!!!!!!

Nervous Ferret 09-08-2005 10:18 PM

yeah Bradys got 197 yards with 5 minutes left in the half

Zen v.W.o. 09-08-2005 10:41 PM

What's with this lame fucking halftime song about? Fucking country hicks.

ABC needs to wisen up.

Gonzo 09-08-2005 10:52 PM

Yeah dude the Raiders need to shore up their pass defense, get some rush going. Dropping 8 into coverage isn't working for them, Brady will pick that apart all day long no matter which way you slice it. Gotta get some pressure and force some bad throws.

Crimson 09-08-2005 11:02 PM

Oaklands games will be fun this year, high scoring, since their defense is crap. Or their run defense is lookin good actually tonite. Thair secondary is just young but they got talent...Stanford Routt is the best freakin name.

Joey Slugs 09-08-2005 11:49 PM

we need to get a mod in here sticky the "official ______ season" threads

Gonzo 09-08-2005 11:59 PM

Good call, that and the "footy" thread for all them Euro footy fans. :D

road doggy dogg 09-09-2005 02:02 AM

Moss' TD was sick

RP 09-09-2005 03:47 AM

I'm not sure what to think about the Pats O. On one hand they looked very good. Great actually. On the other hand, the Raiders defense was horrible. 16 pentaltys . Glad to see the Raiders working on game discipline.

RP 09-09-2005 03:52 AM

Randy Moss is sick. I just watched an NFL network interview with him. He seems so much more mature. He could win MVP this year.

VonErich Lives 09-09-2005 12:27 PM

Guess that was Warren Sapp's last game.

"I say the day they beat me is the day I retire because I'm no longer able to play this game like I should."
--- Warren Sapp on the New England Patriots just before Super Bowl XXXVIII (Patriots v Panthers) - Jan. 2004

PureHatred 09-09-2005 12:48 PM

Raiders looked awful last night and Kerry Collins made at least 5 big mistakes that cost them fiedl position and pissibly points. Giving away damn near 160 yards in penalites doesn't exactly help either. And the Pats were the Pats. Not in mid-season form yet, but if they had been, they would've won in a romp.

Y2Ant 09-09-2005 12:53 PM

LOL totally marked out when Moss caught that bomb, then juked past Rodney Harrison

BURNING SAFETIES

road doggy dogg 09-09-2005 01:37 PM

To the Raiders' credit, they were stuffing Dillon almost all game. Something positive at least :shifty:

I felt the same way. I predicted Moss would catch two TDs and beat Harrison, so I was 2/3 right.

Mr. Monday Morning 09-09-2005 02:54 PM

Courtney Anderson, where the hell did that come from.

Fucking Pollard had better come up big this weekend now  :$

BCWWF 09-09-2005 03:57 PM

I watched the first half, and I thought that it was more the case of the Raiders just being bad then the Pats being really good. You could tell that the Pats D was a little shaky, but I don't think they will have any major problems without Bruschi. The Raiders defense on the other hand, was absolutely awful. The Pats were running in and out of the secondary.

RP 09-09-2005 04:13 PM

The second half, the Pats did what makes them the champs. They adjusted. Totally shut down the Raiders passing game and pretty much picked there way through the Raiders defense to score. Raiders just never had enough.

Randy Moss cutting back on Harrison was

Gonzo 09-09-2005 04:33 PM

I don't think it was much the Patriots doing either, the Raiders pass defense was like swiss cheese. Moss juking out Harrison though was

Can't wait till Sunday though. Going down to the Meadowlands to watch the Giants and the Cards baby. GGGGGGG Men.

The Miz 09-09-2005 05:47 PM

That was a winnable game. Kerry Collins is bad.

RP 09-09-2005 05:49 PM

I'm not sure what to make of Collins. When he's pressured. Shit hits the fan. He has no clue what to do, but if he get time to sit back there and look at the defense. He'll throw for 350yrds and 3 td's.

RP 09-09-2005 05:50 PM

On the intentional grounding call. All he had to do was throw it past the line of scrimmage and he was good to go. Couldnt even do that.

PureHatred 09-09-2005 06:16 PM

Also, for a guy known for the long ball, he missed Moss at least twice in the endzone, and really should've thown it higher on that depe route that Moss adjusted to. He also had a chance to throw underneath and give his team a FG attempt. Just a lot of iffy decisions; which is kind of a Kerry Collins staple.

Have a feeling a lot of Raiders fans are going to be bitter after this year.

Gonzo 09-10-2005 02:20 AM

Ha. I had to deal with that shit for like 5 years. :|

Lotus 09-10-2005 03:10 AM

Rodney Harrison is a dirty motherfuckin' player. Oh well, didn't expect the Raiders to win. If their O-Line gave Collins better protection, it would have been more interesting.

Gonzo 09-10-2005 01:51 PM

Collins would rip shit up if he has time to throw. I don't know what the Raiders are doing having him roll out because he is terrible on the move, definitely not a mobile QB by any means. Collins is your cookie cutter pocket passer. Give him time and he will rip you apart but any good rush will mess him up.

RP 09-10-2005 02:25 PM

He's Drew Bledsoe with a drinking problem.

Yeah but you gotta figure that they're not going to face the Pats every week. I mean they didn't play great defensively at all (compared to their usual), but they still did hot. Like totally switching their defensive scheme from 3-4 to 4-3 on the spot like that, kinda hot.

My dad and I, as Giants fans used to joke about him drinking again when he made a bad play. Made for some laughs.

VonErich Lives 09-10-2005 04:47 PM

Collins is a good QB who makes dumb mistakes. Expect 300-400yd games, 2-3 TD's and 1 or 2 int's or fumbles per game.

I think Sapp should show he's a man of his word and retire.

Also, after the game Lamont Jordan said "I don't know why everyones worried about the Patriots with loss of their OC/DC, that's the same Patriot team I went up against twice a year, there still just as good".

Ben Watson looks like he'll be a monster, he's like 6'6 and fast.

Next week should be a better test vs. a team with a good defense.

OssMan 09-10-2005 04:51 PM

lol the raiders shitty defense smother Corey Dillon. CANT GET OVER THIS

The Miz 09-10-2005 08:02 PM

Their rush D is not awful. They're pass D is probably the worst in the league though

RoXer 09-10-2005 11:28 PM

Haven't posted it in this thread yet...

THE ARIZONA CARDINALS WILL WIN THE NFC WEST

RP 09-11-2005 12:11 AM

There seem to be a league wide big expectations for the Colts. Hopefully we live up to it. One of our major tests come tommorow.

They said it's only a strained shoulder, so I guess that's good. Atleast he got you points from his pick before he got taken out though.

FearedSanctity 09-11-2005 03:25 PM

Goddamn, Denver is getting destroyed by the heat. Champ Bailey, Lenny Walls AND Darrent Williams are out, Walls and Williams from cramps. So now they've got rookies and a SAFETY playing corner

RP 09-11-2005 03:43 PM

Go GO Jets run defense.

The Miz 09-11-2005 04:11 PM

Awesome, Hasselbeck

Mr. Monday Morning 09-11-2005 04:24 PM

Pennington got totally raped. 1 INT, 6 fumbles 2 lost.

Saints are about to win in Carolina. Crazy.

I thought Jason Taylor was dead after that fumble recovery. I have been to a few games in Miami in Sept. the heat is incredible in the stands let alone how bad it is on the field.

For all those who think the colts are going to the superbowl. I have said for several years that the colts will never win a superbowl with Peyton Manning.

Nervous Ferret 09-11-2005 04:31 PM

yeah the only thing that will save my day is a Giants loss and a fantasy football win over MMM

LOL we're going to be the two lowest scoring teams in the league, but one of us will get the win

Wow, we didn't get the game, but just wow. I guess losing right away is better then winning six, losing six, and sputtering in the playoffs at 500. Starting something new.

BCWWF 09-11-2005 07:18 PM

Two of my roommates are KC, two STL, and one MN. St. Louis fans are so gay, thats why it makes it even better for them to lose to the 49ers, it makes us not look so bad.

road doggy dogg 09-11-2005 07:32 PM

DETROIT WHAT

On top of the NFC North, gonna have an even bigger lead after thrashing Chicago next week

SammyG 09-11-2005 07:55 PM

FUCK FUCK FUCKITY FUCK FUCK, FUCK. FUUUUUUUUCK.

VonErich Lives 09-11-2005 08:00 PM

Week 1, as usual little makes sense.

Takes a few weeks for things to "shake out" and see who is for real and who isn't.

RP - as for the "yahoo experts" dunno, read the bio on a few of those guys, I question the term "expert". But yeah, everyone is picking the colts the pats, the eagles and the panthers. Seem to be the top 4, I've seen a few pick the Falcons also.

Dunno, I always like when people don't pick the Pats... (plus, helps the spread if I want to bet on them!) :)

SammyG 09-11-2005 08:02 PM

Did the niners actually look good today? Or where the rams horrible? Im in greece so i cant watch the games or highlights, so can someone fill me in?

OssMan 09-11-2005 08:07 PM

Dunno how they looked overall but the ony guy made a pretty smart move at the end getting the pick. It bounched off of someone else and he moved over and grabbed it.

SammyG 09-11-2005 08:13 PM

im still tryin to recover from the fact that the 49ERS JUST BEAT THE RAMS. HOLY FUCKING SHIT, HOW PATHETIC.

RoXer 09-11-2005 08:55 PM

What the fuck happened there? I turn off the TV at halftime and the gay assGiants scored 21 points in like 6 minutes.

road doggy dogg 09-11-2005 09:47 PM

You know, as tired as I am hearing about the Colts every 3 minutes here and on TV and on the 'net and shit... Freeney is insane. Like while watching the game, I've just been watching him every play, and the guy never takes a play off, and he always gets involved. Crazy... like that last play he just totally drilled Lewis and nobody could do anything about it. Gdamn

Zen v.W.o. 09-11-2005 09:48 PM

And the Giants cruise, just as I suspected. They are unstoppable.

Shockey is a beast.

Jets suck, Niners are cool, Bills are back, life is good.

Evil Vito 09-11-2005 10:02 PM

Just got back from the Giants game about a half hour ago

Opening day = fucking incredible crowd

Next week gonna be a lot tougher, since the Saints are obviously > Cards...but I can't wait.....gotta love Coughlin, actually giving a shit about the special teams unlike Fassel....and look what happens

AareDub 09-11-2005 10:12 PM

Crazy ass opening day. Did HORRIBLE in the pick em league.

On a semi-related note, how fucking awful were the Packers today? Favre was like 22/50 or some shit like that. I'm ashamed to be a pack fan today. Also are those the Lions' new uniforms, or are they like an alternate one or something.
