Has anyone lost any respect for Matt Hughs?
I dunno, I've been reading around, and a lot of the reports on TUF are complaining about Matt's coaching style.
While I'll admit he's a HUGE asshole, I can't say I'm losing any respect. In fact, it's making me like him more. You can tell he's just having some fun with this show, creating himself a character. And like fuck, he's Matt fucking Hughs, he's way more fucking hardcore than any of these fucking pansies on the show, so I can understand his frustration from time to time. And even when he was kicking the shit out of Luke and Jason which I would say is inexcusable, I was just like "nice " because I think he knows he's assumed a certain role on the show, and he knows what he is doing. However, I think the UFC fans are gonna love him for how he's acting, because he is just a crazy hardass. |
Well he trash talks and then when one of his fighters looses, he tells the winner he lost respect for him because he showboats. Sorry but those two things are equal. So he's either plain stupid or a hypocrite.
OMG, maybe he's both!! |
Now.
When it comes to his abilities. There are none better. But that's not what we're discussin here. |
He's a farmer boy from Iowa or something. I don't expect him to be particularly bright.
He's just such a tough bastard it's hard to hate him. |
He's still my favorite fighter. A lot of things that pissed him off on the show are the same things that would piss me off. I can't stand people doing things half assed, especially when they'be been given such an amazing opportunity.
|
He's really playing the game with expert strategy and precision. Everything he does, it seems that he does it for a reason. It does sound a bit harsh that he'd send Jason packing to the other team after he just beat one of the best fighters on the show but Hughes knows what he's doing. Think about it. Jason is beat to hell now and has a cut over his eye. Easy pickings for Hughes's guys.
Sometimes I can't decide whether Hughes is an asshole or a genius. |
And who else thinks that Luke is going to surprise the hell out of everybody and put a big time ass beating on someone?
|
He never congratulated Jason for his win. He ignored him and was completely out of line for never giving the guy any type of moral support. That's not being a genius, it's called being a poor leader.
It's one thing to be critical and push your guys hard, but when you do this, you have to be equally generous in your praise when they succeed. Great fighter, yes. Terrible manager. |
He said on one of the first few episodes that he was only interested in good fighters because the show isn't long enough for him to turn a mediocre fighter into a great fighter. Jason is a mediocre fighter at best, that is why Hughes isn't interested in him.
I'm not defending the logic, just putting it out there for the sake of the discussion. |
mediocre. Sure, but who isn't. I'm not impressed yet by any of these guys.
|
Joe Stevenson seems to be fucking awesome. He put a hurting on Marcus.
|
Marcus should've never fought Joe. He would've made it to at least the semi-finals for sure

I think Josh Burkman was the most impressive fighter thus far. Jorge looks like he would be a great fighter at his natural weight class.
|
Naw, I'd say either Joe or Seth has thus far been the most impressive. Joe basically destroyed the best striker on Team Franklin BY FAR and Seth really proved himself to be very quick on his feet and innovative in his offense.
|
Joe will win the welter weight division. no doubt about it.
|
Luke Cammo(SP?). I'm interested in seeing him fight... Damn, I missed a couple episodes... I think?? Jesus. I hope not... Anyway, I think he might have something worth seeing in regards to in ring skill.

I think Seth has been the most impressive. He has great reaction/defensive skills. As for Hughes I think he's being a hardass on purpose, and doesn't care for being a fair coach, or good guy. He's just working their asses off to make them earn a spot in the UFC.
|
*spoilers*
I was right. Everyone underestimated Luke and he absolutely destroyed his first opponent. Anthony didn't even stand a chance. |
Luke looked like a kid in a street fight last night. He might win another fight on the show, but I don't think he'd do so well in the big leagues.

His ground skills weren't that bad, he fucking put a hurting on Anthony on the ground.
I think he would get run by Joe Stevenson though. I wanna see him vs. Von Flue, because they are both standup sluggers. |
He should be a hardass after two guys dropped out the first week. He wants to make sure that these guys earn their shot.
BTW Luke is damn good in the octagon |

Let's not forget fellas, he had his ass handed to him by BJ Penn. He would not have the most title victories if it weren't for BJ getting kicked off for being an idiot.
|
Man, Mike Whitehead is a pussy if I've ever seen one. Props to Rashad though, he had a fire lit under his ass, and he humiliated Matt Hughs and Mike Whitehead.
|
Like honestly, if I was ever in that competition, and I knew I was gonna lose, or felt the fight slipping away, I'd rather get knocked out and go down swinging, because that's pride, not giving up with 10 seconds left.
Humiliating. |
Yes that match was disgusting.
They are bringing someone back next week and I already have a feeling of who it might be. If you watched the preview for next week, rashad has an injured arm and might not continue, and somehow while training, Jason gets a nasty cut on his forehead. Right now, Team Franklin is sitting at 3 heavyweights and 1 welterweight. If they loose a heavyweight, they will still have the advantage over Matt's 1 heavyweight Brad. However, if they loose Jason, then Franklin has no more welterweights. So they could trade a welter over to Franklin, OR they could bring Josh back because he never was truly eliminated (he was forced out because of his injured arm). So what say you guys? |
Josh's arm was still injured at that point, and he was on Hughe's team anyway. The previews specifically said they bring back a welterweight from Team Franklin.
They are past the point of team vs team now, it's the semis. The numbers don't matter anymore. Next week they will announce the 2 semifinal fights and they will show the at least one, if not both, of the welterweight matches. Last year they did teammate vs teammate, but this year the teams are 3-1. |
Yea it dont matter who is on who's team now. They will just pair them up in a 4 man bracket and that's it..may the best men win.

THey are definetly bringing someone back, so who do you guys think it will be? It cant be anyone who "lost" a match. It has to be someone they released, which narrowes it to like 3 peeps. He's the only one that didnt quit or loose that was ejected except the real big dude that had to leave because of his torn meniscus. GOD DAMN SOMEONE TAKE A GUESS AT WHO IT MIGHT BE SO ITS MORE EXCITING! |
It's definately Jorge. No doubt about it. Dana is obsessed with his effort.
However, if it isn't Jorge then it will be Marcus. Marcus never got an actual chance to show what he could do because it was a bad match up. If it is Marcus, the welterweights are definately fucked. He is by far one of the best strikers I've ever seen (download some fights. He's crazy) |

Ok, again, it is NOT Josh. Josh's harm had not healed by the time they were filming this. That is why he had to leave the house in the first place. His arm was not going to be healed by the time the show was done taping.
I would also expect (and hope) it to be Jorge, but he had a pretty serious knee injury as well. I'm betting it will be Marcus. Really, as long as somebody beats the shit out of Von Flue I'll be happy. |
lol Von Flue is a bit of a homo but he's not a bad guy. At least he respects his opponents, and gives it 110% in the octagon.
|
All I'm saying is that if Marcus comes back... This competition is gonna get turned upside down. Granted, he'd prolly still have a problem with Joe but I guarentee he'd knock out Sam, Luke, and Jason without a sweat. The dude is rock solid.

Man that was a crazy crazy crazy fight. lol brutal ko by Luke, I was pulling for him the whole time.
Next week's fight looks like a serious brawl as well. Finally, it's all coming together. |

That knee by Luke was fucking disgusting. Brutal display of violence. I love it.
|
1st good fight of the season. It should be good from here on out. :y:
|
It's actually the third good fight of the season. Luke vs. Anthony, Jason vs. Jorge, Luke vs. Sammy
lol Luke's been in 2 of the 3 good fights. |
I thought they were more in the ok department but I suppose thats just a matter of opinion. Great fight last night though.
|
If Marcus or Jason somehow beat Joe then I think Luke is gonna win.
And if it's Marcus vs Luke in the Finals then it's gonna be the most brutal standup fight ever. |
If it ends up being Jason against Joe, it's going to be a QUICK fight, Joe's going to tear him apart. If Marcus fights Joe, I hope he's learnt from his mistakes.
I really don't wanna see Joe in the finals though, because he's just wayyy too good of a wrestler, and I don't see the fight being very entertaining, just Joe on the ground and pound pretty much. |
Quote:
Also, everyone counts out Jason alot. I think he's extremely underrated. He wants it, you can tell. |
Brutal cut between the eyes during practice. Hopefully it heals up in time so he doesn't have to give up his spot.
|
lol Luke was in trouble for a while there in that fight, but that knee did it's work. I think Seth will take the heavyweights, and Im picking Joe for the welters.

I only caught the third round of Melvin vs. Josh, and it wasn't really exciting. I was told the other 2 were good, but I missed them :(
|
Luke was in trouble a couple of times (the arm bar with 5 seconds left, and he got staggered early in the second.) But he came back. That knee, though.... I can't help BUT root for Luke in the finals. He was the guy who got picked last, and he proved his worth. The guy who got picked first pussed out, anyway...
|
so the finals are set, Im surprised Seth lost , anyone check out the ear on him afterwards? That didn't look pretty.
The Diaz/Sanches match should be a good one, and also how does Quarry already get a shot at Franklin? Well it should be a pretty good match, as Quarry hs been impressive, but I can't see him beating Franklin. |
Quote:
|
Really? i jus thought it took more than 3 wins...impressive or not.
|
What about his previous MMA record? I'm sure that has some bearing. And yes, it probably is partly because he is a face that the fans recognize, but who cares. I'm not bitching. Quarry has shown that he is very good in the ring and I'm deffinately looking forward to the fight between him and Franklin.
|
Wow, the last picks for both the Welters and the Heavyweights are now in the finals. Good judgement on the coaches part
Finals should be good. I'm kinda disappointed about the welters though. Joe basically came out and said that there is no way that he's going to stand with Luke for even a second. That was Luke's only chance. Hopefully he can get a good clinch in and deliver another monster knee. Go luke :D |
I could never lose respect for anyone who makes a living out of beating the fuck out of people who are extremely good at fighting.
