Most shocking title win

What title win/reign surprised you the most?

Destor 10-03-2005 02:41 PM

David Arquette

Morgan 10-03-2005 02:47 PM

JBL. Didn't think they'd be stupid enough. He's alright now, but at the time it was "WTF?!!!!"

Joey Slugs 10-03-2005 02:52 PM

Mikey's ECW Title win.

dablackguy 10-03-2005 03:24 PM

Mankind's 1st title win

I remember when WCW gave away the results and said Mankind won the title, I was like holy shit and had to turn on wwe to see that it actually happened and how it happened.

Nark Order 10-03-2005 04:44 PM

Other:

Rick Rude winning the IC belt off of Warrior (With the help of Heenan)

Nark Order 10-03-2005 04:50 PM

Bischoff beating Cena for the WWE Title. :shifty:

Loose Cannon 10-03-2005 05:15 PM

This is in complete mark mode cause I was a mark during almost all of these.

Gonna say Warrior dropping the belt to Slaughter. In my eyes back then, Warrior was unstopable and couldn't be beaten. And when Slaughter got the three my heart sank and it was like a "this isn't reak" type of moment.

Yashamaga 10-03-2005 05:18 PM

Mankind over Rock

even though Schiavone fucked it up I was still shocked

redoneja 10-03-2005 05:24 PM

Definately going w/ LC on this one.

wwe2222 10-03-2005 05:26 PM

the first time bret won the title..i remember watching wwf superstars and mean gene was going to do an interview...and he introduced his guest as the new wwf champion...and bret hart came walking out...i didnt see it coming, esp since it was at a house show and not televised

WCW was sooo desperate at that point.

The One 10-03-2005 05:45 PM

I said Mikey over Sandman for the ECW Title...I would have never in a million years thought they would actually put the title on Whipwreck. The other most shocking title win...it was Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka vs. Taz for the ECW Title, going into the event I knew Taz was going to drop the belt...but as quickly as he did, and then the reaction afterwards...it was so...wow.

However I think you are missing the single biggest "Holy FUCK!" title change that shocked me completly. Was The Dudley Boys going over Balls & Spike and then Tommy and the arrival of Raven to win the titles off the Dudleys...just fucking incredible.

Innovator 10-03-2005 06:41 PM

Foley winning the title...we all knew about it 6 days in advance but it was still amazing

I forgot about that one. That would have been an incredible moment if it was live!

One of the biggest pops in ECW, Raven's return

I have to agree with this. When Mean Gene announced there was a new WWF champion, I thought for sure it was Ultimate Warrior. When Bret Hart came out, I marked like a mofo.

Mick Foley's first title win was a surprise too. So was Ron Simmons winning the WCW title.

mrslackalack 10-03-2005 06:50 PM

Ron Simmons winning the WCW title was a shocker. Vader was looking unstoppable and Simmons pinned him and won the belt. The crowd went crazy and wrestlers stormed the ring. I heard that people in the audience cried that night. He was the first black world champion.

mrslackalack 10-03-2005 06:51 PM

Simmons title win would be a good story to write about in a wrestling history article on here.

KingofOldSchool 10-03-2005 07:09 PM

When Taz came back to ECW and won the ECW Title from Mike Awesome.

I was there live and we were all chanting for RVD (even though he was injured at the time) then Taz came out and totally shook the building.

LK 10-03-2005 07:21 PM

Eddie winning the WWE title from Lesnar. I honestly thought that Lesnar was going to fucking kill Guerrero, then face Goldberg at WM for the WWE title and beat him as well.

aaronkyle86 10-03-2005 07:36 PM

Triple H when he won it the 10th time...:shifty:

I'd say Jericho when he won the Undisputed championship. I NEVER would have thought they'd put the belt on him.

Loose Cannon 10-03-2005 07:47 PM

god I can't remember my reaction to the Bret Hart thing at all. It's a complete blur. I know I saw it too.

Fox 10-03-2005 09:21 PM

Booker T winning the WCW Title at Bash at the Beach 2001, considering he wasn't even scheduled to wrestle for the title that night.

Favre4Ever 10-03-2005 09:23 PM

Definitly Kurt Angle winning his first WWF Championship from the Rock at No Mercy 2000. What a great year.

vampiro03 10-03-2005 09:37 PM

david arquette or vince mcmahon

thecc 10-03-2005 09:45 PM

CM Punk winning the ROH title was pretty shcoking because it was when everyone expected him to be wrestling his last roh match.

See back then I didnt watch WCW so it was my biggest markout moment

Corndad 10-04-2005 12:46 PM

Gotta be the Foley Win, I love it even though Fans knew Foley was gonna win after WCW announced it, WWE still won the ratings war that night. Thats what makes it shocking to me.

CSL 10-04-2005 01:05 PM

The 1st one that came to mind was Vince beating Trips on Smackdown in late-'99

Just John 10-04-2005 02:10 PM

No offence to him, but I didnt think anyone was stupid enough to give Pscho Sid a push

Vastardikai 10-04-2005 02:26 PM

I was gonna say Ronnie Garvin over Ric Flair, because he was the suck. Then someone brought up Bret Hart. It seemed out of nowhere, and BRET made it work with title against everyone, and I mean EVERYONE.

The Ravishing One 10-04-2005 02:51 PM

Marty Jannety I-C title win over HBK

Rob 10-04-2005 03:26 PM

Thing is, with a lot of title reigns, like Vince's, Sgt. Slaughter, Backlund, Guerrero or Jericho - You had to have a feeling it might happen. Infact, they built up Backlund and Slaughter to the point most people would think they would win. Guerrero got two big wins on Lesnar prior to his title win (which was a storyline I recommended at the time that people needed to see Guerrero beat Lesnar clean to have a mental visual he could win the title and thus buy the PPV) and was rumoured to be winning the belt. Jericho was made to look weak on TV the week leading up to his big win and at the time, WWF always did that to guys they intended on putting over. I even heard Booker T was getting the WCW title the night before he did on the LAW.

Hart's 1st, Simmons, Taz's second and Mick Foley's wins came literally out of nowhere.

hell wait for #11 it's coming sooner than you think

Destor 10-04-2005 04:42 PM

He was being sarcastic, hence the shifty.

JH 10-04-2005 07:26 PM

it did'nt show up on my screen til now
SORRY

Chavo Classic 10-04-2005 08:17 PM

I suppose Carlito over Cena for the US title since he'd never even been on the tellybox before that. Talk about a debut!

Honourable mention to Eddie besting Brock Lesnar at No Way Out 2004 however. I remember reading the stickie for the PPV on the forums here the next day and looking at some of the responses. Most were along the lines of 'HOLY SHIT!'.

Good times

mrslackalack 10-05-2005 02:11 PM

The Booker T Jeff Jarrett match on the thunder before BATB was amazing. I thought Booker should win the belt eventually and that sunday he did. A big rise for booker as eariler in the year he was getting dystroyed by Harlem Heat 2000 and the Harris Twins often.

mrslackalack 10-05-2005 02:13 PM

Marty over HBK was a good one day storyline. HBK was supposed to face Mr. Perfect for the belt but he was injured. The mystery oppoent was a ''boy in the hood'' it was revaled to be Marty. During the match Mr. Perfect distacted HBK and Marty rolled him up to win I went crazy over that win. I heard that Perfect orignally was supposed to beat HBK for the title. Their Summerslam 93 match has to be one of the most anticpated matches that was a dissapointment.

Pepsi Man 10-05-2005 02:19 PM

I had to go with "other". For me, it was Chris Jericho winning the Undisputed Title. He was the last of the four guys I thought would've won it. I thought they'd give it to Austin, since I figured they'd give it to either Rock or Austin, and I felt like Austin needed it a bit more, having just come back to the babyface side. Failing that, I could see Angle getting it since he was pretty built up as well, but Jericho had only won a World Title one other time, beating Rock for the WCW Title in what would be considered a "fluke" ordinarily.

So honestly, I was surprised by that.

Jericho winning the Undisputed Championship shocked me. I knew they would eventually give him a run with a world title, but nothing could have prepared me for Jericho beating the Rock and Steve Austin in consecutive matches and being the first Undisputed Champion. When I saw it happen, I marked the fuck out! It was the best night ever! Shame his reign was disappointing.

wwe2222 10-05-2005 10:39 PM

thats funny...i thought it was the warrior too, even when the music hit, for a second I thought it was warrior till bret came walking out...i think warrior had a title shot around then too

mrslackalack 10-07-2005 12:19 PM

Yeah Warrior was battling Flair across the country so many were shocked when Bret came out with the belt.
