"Hello everybody, this is a first for me, but I couldn't wait any longer. I have a new band called "Angels and Airwaves" and it is the most amazing music I have ever made by a long shot. You all must know, I didn't want Blink to go on hiatus, but it had to....you all will learn why...soon, but I swear to god, I am two songs from finishing the best fucking album anybody has heard in 20 years. In the next couple of weeks, you will all hear about the new band as well as the movie that is being made to tell the story of the album. But no matter what is said, or talked about, no matter what rumors are started, this is the best music made in decades....It is so much more powerful, emotional and melodic than Box Car and Blink put together, that I am currently shitting my pants, and your pants as well....until you hear more, all I can say is hold on, and prepare- Tom "I love my fans, and I promise I will not let you down, the music that we all grew to charish that was made, not only will continue, but it will be much, much better...."
Posted by Tom on Absolutepunk.net. SOUNDS HOTTTTTT Apparently the movie and CD are rumored to come out in January 2006. Sounds fucking sweet. |
lol I am currently shitting in my pants, and your pants as well.

Tom DeLonge wants you to know that his new band, Angels & Airwaves, will probably change the way you listen to rock and roll, will more than likely alter your life and will most definitely be the most famous band in the world. You've just got to give him some time. "Right now, I'm a song and a half from finishing the greatest album of my career, and I swear it's going to be something that will compete with the greatest rock records of all time," he enthused. "Within two years, we'll be the biggest rock act in the world. There's never been a rock band from America that sounds like us. And I hope that what I just said raises more than a few eyebrows." This isn't the first time he's said all this. Just last month, he released a statement expressing those exact same sentiments, a move that sent Blink fan sites abuzz with excitement — and a bit of resentment, too (see "Blink's Tom DeLonge Promises 'The Greatest Rock And Roll Revolution' "). But despite the fair share of naysayers that his statement stirred up, DeLonge isn't backing down from his earlier assessments. In fact, he says he'd like to take them all one step further. "Like I said, there's never been a band from America that sounded like this. Pink Floyd, the Cure, the Police, U2, Coldplay — they all come from Europe — and this band, it has the conceptual depth of Pink Floyd, it has the anthemic architecture of U2 but it has the energy and youthful vibrancy of Blink. I'm freaking out," he laughed. "And I'm not saying this lightly. Every single person who's heard the music understands. If I ever had the chance in my life to do something on a whole different level from anything I've ever done before, this is it." DeLonge has been hard at work on the Angels album since March, holed up in his home with friends like former Distillers bassist Ryan Sinn, former Rocket From the Crypt drummer Atom Willard and guitarist David Kennedy, who played with DeLonge in his Blink side project, Box Car Racer (see "Box Car Racer Talk Sex, Fall In Love With 'Mandy' "). And while he won't give away the title of the album or the names of any songs, he did say that the Angels album is "autobiographical," that all of the songs toe the seven-minute mark and that he plans to have it in stores next spring. "It's cinematic and massive. All the songs have dramatic crescendos and huge stadium choruses," he said. "If you slam the Cure, Pink Floyd, U2 and the Police into one band with me singing, that's kind of what it will sound like. It's everything you like about those little bands, but also with parts of Blink in there too." And right about the time the Angels & Airwaves album hits stores, you can look for the accompanying movie to drop as well (DeLonge wouldn't answer if the film will play in theatres or will just be released to DVD). And it should come as no surprise that the film shares the album's rather, um, grand ambitions. "Since [Pink Floyd's] The Wall, this has never been done. A third of the movie is CGI, a third of the movie is a documentary and a third of it is a love story. And it basically tells the story of the breakup of one of the biggest bands in the world and the creation of the world's greatest rock band," DeLonge said. "It's a documentary about the past year of my life. But the whole thing is done with metaphors and analogies of World War II. Because World War II was good versus evil, the grand sense of purpose, and seeing as though I started this new part of my life specifically for my family, I felt that it would be an appropriate reference point rather than using modern images." According to DeLonge, both the Angels & Airwaves album and film will tell his side of what happened last February when Blink broke millions of hearts by announcing they were going on "indefinite hiatus" (see "Blink-182 Announce 'Indefinite Hiatus' As Breakup Rumors Swirl"). While both Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker have since moved on to various other endeavors, DeLonge has somewhat famously remained silent. And he'd like to keep it that way. Kind of. "I love Mark and Travis to death. They were my best friends in the world, and I miss them tremendously. At the end, our priorities were mad different, and I haven't spoke to them since [the hiatus]," he continued. "So instead of talking, I just made this album and this film. There's a story line that runs throughout it, it's autobiographical, I felt like I lost my two best friends, I lost the band I created, and I did it all for my family. And so I decided to write the album and make the movie about my life. But rather than sit there and whine, I used analogies about love and war, because that's what this whole thing was like. Playing music in the wake of the Blink thing was like finding love in the middle of a war zone." — James Montgomery |
Yeah I know he's just trying to hype up the band and album and stuff, but shit sounds hottttt
DUDE... They are going to sound outrageously fantastic. Even if people hate Blink, they may just like what Tom will make here.
Don't go to purevolume for their music, because they just have old school Blink on there. Mark and Travis have their own band as well, which will also be good, but that's not what we're talking about in this thread. Something about Blink struck me as weird though... I watched Meet The Barkers on the weekend and it showed bits and pieces of Blink recording in a studio. You heard me right, Tom, Mark and Travis recording in a studio. Now Meet The Barkers started this year and their last studio album was released in 2003. A perfect explanation was that they were recording one or two songs, but that wouldn't make sense. Tom will go ahead with this project, but I reckon Blink will release something not too long after Angels and Airwaves. Maybe some of you already knew this, but useful information anyway, especially for you RDD. |
Well, according to Tom's interview there, he hasn't talked with the band since their hiatus (when they cancelled their show on the tsunami relief thing), so I dunno. Sounds pretty interesting though... do you know when the episode with them recording was aired? Like you said you watched on the weeked, was that the original airtime of it?
It would have probably been the original airtime for Australian Television.
(Saturday, 1st October, 2005) As for the original airtime for American Television, I'm not quite sure. EDIT: The original airings of the episodes. There was two that I watched, were back in May. |
LOL shut the fuck up, "best album in 20 years".
I would punch him for being that arrogant if I ever met him. |
Hmm, cool. I want to hear what all the ex-Blink members' new projects sound like.

That's too far away. You'll be able to listen to it on the net weeks in advance.
Best album in 20 years? Conceptual depth of Pink Floyd? From BLINK-182???
I highly, highly doubt it. |
LOL best album in 20 years
Just to clarify, this will suck.
Thanks for the input
Didn't you know? JJ is the last word on all things musical. If JJ doesn't like it, it's not worth listening to.
He's probably right.
Well, I don't know if it will outright suck, but it will definitely not live up to this kind of hype. Nothing can. |

In less gay news, this CD is gonna own.
I don't get why everyone is taking this so seriously? I highly doubt Tom actually thinks this is going to be the best CD of all time or whatever he said. If you listen to him talk for 10 seconds you realize he is a smartass and I am almost positive he is just screwing around. :|
And RDD is going along with it.
I dunno what you mean, but if you're implying that I'm going to buy the CD because it will be awesome then yesssssss
Exactly.

bump...
The site is up. Two movies to view. A little bit of music to hear. http://www.angelsandairwaves.com/ |
Yeah they were supposed to have some podcast or something up the other day but it's kept being delayed :wtf: The videos are hawt though, the song played in the First Contact thing is hawt. You can only hear about 3 seconds of it at the end but it's Tom and <333333
Was kind of hoping it would sound a little bit different then Blink. :o I want to hear more.
The second video has several parts of an interview with the band. Pretty cool.
I'm fucking pumped.
Yeah, sounds like Blink 182. Shocking.
You say that like it's a bad thing though.
It is when this is supposedly "the most creative thing" he's been a part of and following all of the outlandish claims he made, serious or not.
Based on who's in it and the small clips I've heard in the video, it seems like it's leaning towards a bit like Boxcar Racer.

People are going to think it sounds like Blink regardless of how different it actually sounds simply because Tom Delonge is singing. The brief soundclips heard in the trailer/podcast didn't even sound like Blink at all really
I have one song from AvA called "The Adventure".
If you want it, plz AIM me, my sn is Dahminator870 The strong points of the song are the sweet verses and the great guitar riff. The only thing I think they could have done better was make the first few choruses like "heavier" or "louder", or soemthing like that... |
ifdsgdsflgb
I want to do tom ITB so hard |
I'd say it's a mix between Boxcar, new Blink, and something else....it's not the same 3 power chord song like you may be used to
Wasn't there another band with this name, or was it just an album title?
I cannot live, I can't breathe unless you do this with me
omggggggggggg  |
OMGZ IT'S LIKE PINK FLOYDZ
lol you are a faggot and have long hair
ty for the bump  |
Man, I don't usually like Tom's stuff that much, but The Adventure is pretty
I heard one song from angels and airways the other day. It was pretty meh.
DeLonge has really fucked up the rep for his new band. Even though maybe he was being sarcastic you cant tell its sarcasm when its been printed in newspapers claiming its serous. Alot of people will be put off by that and may be bais when hearing his music. I did laugh my arse off then Tom said his band will be just as big as U2 in two years. Sarcastic or not it was still funny |
Angels and Airwaves are a good band though.
Their new song that was leaked, "Good Day" is just as good as The Adventure. So good. |
bump because my penis is happy
I think I like today
I think its good It's something I can get my head around Not as good as The Adventure but I still want to fellate Tom |
"We Don't Need To Whisper"... in stores 23rd May.
1. Valkyrie Missle 2. Distraction 3. It Hurts 4. Do It For Me Now 5. The Adventure 6. The War 7. A Little's Enough 8. The Gift 9. Good Day 10. Start The Machine http://www.punkdisasters.com has an article on Page 2 where you can download clips of the other songs. |
Shit I wish I saw this thread a while back.
I am fucking pumped for this CD, it's gonna own. |
I'm kind of confused. They're doing their tour or w/e, and they're going to Toronto, then Chicago, then back to fuckoff Europe. I don't know why they wouldn't do a Detroit show between Toronto and Chicago. Poop.
Still can't wait for hte CD though. |
The intro/verse/chorus from what I've heard of "It Hurts" is AWESOME.

The album's been leaked. Torrent spy has got it.
I've listened to it about halfway through. Really good stuff. Doesn't sound like the typical Blink 182 or Boxcar Racer stuff like most people would think. |
IF anyone will send me this album via gmail private message me and I'll rep you over and over again! Like I'll rep you once then rep others then rep you again, then rep others.. FOREVER!
Or if someone could just explain how to use god damn torrents.. they're a mother fucker, doncha know? push that button your ass got to go !
What the fuck is Torrent Spy. Get me this CD and I will make you a moderator or something forever. Or Paypal you money. Or come over and suck you off. Or all 3.
I can get it to you I just got it!
Just finished DLing it. Gonna listen now. :y:
i will have it up on YOUSENDIT in about 10 minutes... who wants it?
Yeah, damn good album. Valkyrie Missle and Do It For Me Now are the best songs. One of the tracks was real shitty quality-wise, tho.

I wouldn't say it's "shitty" quality, but it certainly is a lot softer than the other songs on the album.
Thanks for hosting it, downloading now.
it's shit. really boring.
Man, I can't play .rar files.
If someone can just upload the WaR or Valkyrie Missile on here that would be AWESOME. Edit: I managed to find an mp3 of Do It For Me Now Edit again: NEVERMIND, THANK YOU SO MUCH (i am now able to play .rar) |
Listened through it a couple of times now. It is a bit boring like Fonzy said, but overall it's got a pretty nice sound.
I think it's good but it's no "BEST ALBUM IN 20 YEARS!!! WHOO OMGZ ORGAZM" like all my other favorite albums are.
Downloading...
Best CD ever. I want to be in Tom.
Yeah, when I first listend to it The War and It Hurts stuck out to me as the best songs, but the more I listen to it the more they all sound equal as far as how good they are in my opinion.

I haven't read any recent interviews or anything of the like, but I remember Tom saying a while back how some of the CD is about the whole Blink breakup and all... if I had to guess I'd say that Start the Machine is about Blink breaking up and Tom saying how he feels about the band and all. I'm probably way off but if that's the case that's mad hot :'(
Also, A Little's Enough is easily my favourite song off the CD right now. I fucking love the verses, so powerfulllllll and hot.
