When you place an AD in the newspaper, they usually charge by the letter or the length. Which would be most cost effective for a indy promoter...putting an AD that says "IWA Wrestling This Weekend!" or "IWA Wrestling With Barbwire, Light Bulbs, and Just All Around Idiots This Weekend!"

Indy wrestling ads aren't like that. Indy wrestling advertisments always have some sort of draw and that is always mentioned. The ad would go something like "IWA Wrestling Coming to Hickville, U.S.A. on October 22 featuring BARBED WIRE BOARD DEATHMATCH! and FLAMING TABLE LIGHT TUBE BLOOD BATH! Prepare to be shocked!"

Most people don't have the decency to just leave when they witness something that offends them. Instead of just packing up and leaving, most people will start to become self-righteous and want to pretend to have power. They want to dole out punishment to those they think merit it. Most people have this intense desire to be the type of authoritative figure that punishes people. So they'll call the cops on people for the stupidest things, especially if they have nothing to do with what's going on.

People love to butt in. And they love to pretend that they're doing others a favor by bringing others to "justice" when they themselves are offended. If Howard Stern offends you, for instance, the right thing would be to turn off the radio and listen to something else. The thing that most people under that circumstance would do, however, is to call up the cops, the FCC, and pray to God that something bad happens to Howard Stern. Beacuse if it offends them, then it must offend everybody else.

People tend to have the notion that their opinion is the right opinion, and that, obviously, everybody else must share that opinion too, since it's so right and all.

And that, my friends, is why the mother just didn't up and leave quietly, like she should have. That's why she called the cops and wasted taxpayers' money on a wrestling event of all things.

However, Garbage wrestling crosses some lines that might not even be legal in a lot of places. Boxing is tightly regulated under certain purviews. UFC is similarly regulated. Pro wrestling is usually ignored under the notion that it is faked. Even then, there are restrictions in some states on pro wrestling in terms of precautions. And that's not even getting into the fun of people smashing each other with lightbulbs, that's the WWE. WCW. Or any mom and pop indie fed. This is a whole 'nother ballpark, and may have broken town, state or (unlikely) federal laws.

My guess is, the police showed up, rolled their eyes at the hysterical mom, reluctantly did their job which was to ask for the proper permits to hold a public event, the promoter didn't have them, so they pretty much had too shut the thing down. You can't even hold a charity softball game in California without a public permit and some sort of insurance making sure the site isn't responsible for any injuries; I imagine its a similar situation in other states.

These kinds of promoters and especially these kinds of shows are nothing but a black eye on wrestling. They have every right to operate, but I definitely don't feel too bad for them when they get shut the fuck down, even if it on a technicality. I actually hope the cops arrested the guy or at least confiscated the profits.

There are any number of reasons this could be legit, and the police certainly did shut it down for a reason (Though I doubt they got them on a technicality if they disregarded the woman as hysterical), but it could be something simple.

It'd be wise for garbage wrestlers especially to run these things by the book. A few promotions up here were shut down for shit like permits and safety code violations. The humiliation of being essentially shut down by the FIRE DEPARTMENT has to be brutal (I read about a case where the fire dept in like Orange Mass or somewhere near there were the ones who shut down a promotion's show...).

If you're going to be stupid, you deserve what you get. It's not a shame that this shit was shut down, because the ones closest to the line ought to be the ones careful not to jump over.

Well all I can say is that everyone has had some valid points in this argument, but what sticks out the most to me is that the person writing the article from the original post ADMITS he is biased against this kind of thing. So with him being biased, it's very likely that the article itself isn't entirely truthful, or at the very least, over-exaggerated.

Actually it's very possible the show wasn't legal. Hence a possible reason the promoter was hiding in the fucking bushes outside of the venue. Every area has sanctions as far as how wrestling can be booked, some merely require padded mats surrounding the ring, others will not lot you use chair, and there is even one area which will not let you do a move off of the top rope *IE: superplex, moonsalts etc are fine*. It's very possible this promotion broke their sanctions, again the promotor was hiding in the fucking bushes.

The difference between something which is mainstream wrestling, viewed as safe (Though the Hart family would argue) tends to run in the realm of "blatantly fake," or stuff people know to be fake. Hell, I've had people who don't watch wrestling ask me why wrestlers blade (not in those words, but still).

The plunge into electrical circuitry was a lovely light show, but the WWE obviously faked it, and even if they botched it, they have paramedics standing by. We don't even know if the lightbulbfest had paramedics, and that's obviously more "extreme."

Locals called the cops on WCW during the nWo invasion, the time Nash tossed Rey like a dart into the truck. WCW was not shut down that night... interesting how that worked out. Maybe WCW weren't doing anything illegal that night :eek:
