WWE Superstar On A "Deathwatch"???

Source: PWTorch Newsletter (Subscription available www.pwtorch.com)

-- In the latest PWTorch newsletter, editor Wade Keller states quite bluntly that there is apparently a top wrestler wrestling in the WWE today who’s considered to be on an “unofficial death watch”. He doesn’t go on to further elaborate on who this wrestler is, but he does go on to mention how people need to do what it takes to keep him alive, even at the “expense of box office receipts, storyline interruptions” and more.

-- The deathwatch, which is apparently no secret to most within WWE, is still possibly unknown to Vince McMahon, who would need to be informed. The un-named wrestler, should he pass away, would make the coverage of the shocking and tragic news this week of the passing of Eddie Guerrero look minor by comparison, due to his credentials.

-- This has been my first news post since the passing of Eddie Guerrero, and I would like to personally send my condolences to Eddie’s family and friends, both in and out of wrestling.

Volchok 11-16-2005 11:09 PM

wow... I wonder who it is?

Volchok 11-16-2005 11:10 PM

For some reason i'm thinkin Angle, Taker or HBK... but I could be wrong.

The Greater Power 11-16-2005 11:11 PM

Or this could be some sick way Keller gets us to suscribe to his newsletter...?

Skippord 11-16-2005 11:12 PM

Fuck BAD WEEK BAD WEEK could it be HHH

Skippord 11-16-2005 11:13 PM

Ric Flair
Hulk Hogan
Mick Foley
RVD
Benoit
Taker

Volchok 11-16-2005 11:13 PM

I was thinking Benoit, but I hardly doubt he would make Guerrero's death seem minor in comparison...

Hulk Hogan
Mick Foley

Couldnt be those two...

Bad Company 11-16-2005 11:19 PM

Vader?

BigDaddyCool 11-16-2005 11:20 PM

Probably won't be Flair because he is like 80 anyhow. Also, I'm willing to bet it isn't Taker because no one really cares (fans anyhow) about him anymore, and it wouldn't be as shocking as Eddie.

It is probably Angle or Linda McMahon.

Volchok 11-16-2005 11:22 PM

I'm seriously thinking its Angle... which would really, really suck sooooo badly. :(

Volchok 11-16-2005 11:24 PM

I don't want it to be Angle... :(

Kapoutman 11-16-2005 11:29 PM

Take this for what it's worth, but my friend's cousin was backstage at Raw in Montreal a couple of months ago as a medic. Supposedly, Batista's pressure is high and his cholesterol is through the roof. Not sure if it's true, but that's what he said. Don't quote me on that, as it might not even be him.

Splaya 11-16-2005 11:29 PM

God, who could it be

Volchok 11-16-2005 11:32 PM

Kapoutman, I'm not doubting you.. but they said it would make Eddies death seem minor, Eddie was more well known then Batista is, So I don't think it could be him... well atleast I hope it's not him, Shit I hope it's not anyone... First Eddie now this...

I did say don't quote me on that. It's just that what he said seemed to go along woth what was posted.

Funky Fly 11-16-2005 11:40 PM

Shit, someone get Batista some lipitor and Cheerios.

BigDaddyCool 11-16-2005 11:41 PM

But then again, this could be shit stirring sensationalism for adverse gain. Plus, there isn't much we can do from this end, now is there?

Volchok 11-16-2005 11:42 PM

This really sucks if another wrestler dies this week...

Gertner 11-16-2005 11:42 PM

The Naitch 11-16-2005 11:55 PM

Suge Knight is after John Cena

RemyRed 11-16-2005 11:57 PM

It's fake.

Dellaspro 11-17-2005 12:06 AM

I don't think the PWTorch would just make up a rumor like this.

If the rumor is true, it is definately Kurt Angle. His sister died from angina around the time he had his Iron Man match with Brock Lesnar, so angina runs in his family. Angina is heart condition that basically overworks your heart and makes you more prone to heart failure.

Not to mention the fact that it says its a top star and mentions box office receipts, afterall, Angle is main eventing Survivor Series. It says it would make Eddie Guerrero's death look minor, and Angle is an olympic gold medalist for the USA, so the news media would cover it more. RAW is in Europe today, just finished a show in Germany with HBK vs. Angle, so with the increase in travelling/flying, all the shit his body as went through over the years, may have caught up to him and now they are realizing something is wrong.

Corkscrewed 11-17-2005 12:10 AM

See, when I read "death watch" I think "suicide watch," (since that's what they call it in prison). And if that's the case, that's quite scary.

On the other hand, if it's just a matter of "wrestler with a health risk," that's still kinda scary because we all know things can pop up w/o warning.

This is just weird. I kinda hope it IS a hoax (even if it's from a reputable source), because the alternative is obviously much worse. But if it IS a hoax, that's also pretty sick.

I'm not going to even bother speculating, but I wouldn't wish death upon anyone, not Hogan, not HHH, not Hardcore Holly... (lol, I just noticed a trend among the "most hated").

Anyway, yeah.

James Steele 11-17-2005 12:11 AM

NO GOD DAMN IT! NO!

Mr. JL 11-17-2005 12:38 AM

I'm thinking its Ric Flair, Kurt Angle or Batista. I just hope if this is true that someone acts upon it, because the way the Torch says it leads me to believe that this can be avoided if the proper steps are taken.

Death Watch and Suicide Watch are different.

A Death watch is when you believe someone to be on their last legs, quite literally.

Suicide watch is when you think someone might hang themself with their own drawers.

has there been any other news on this yet?

Dorkchop 11-17-2005 12:51 AM

I really hope it's no one. Regadless if it's Angle or Funaki. It's horrible either way.

Joey Slugs 11-17-2005 12:54 AM

if something else happens this week, it very well could be the darkest week in wrestling's history.

Joey Slugs 11-17-2005 01:00 AM

the scary thing about the story is the disclaimer:

Quote:

Significant thought went into this article before we decided to post it here on the website, not only in light of the events of the past week but because of the nature of the article itself. Details of the situation are limited, personal, and of a sensitive nature. However, since many in WWE are aware of the situation described below, and the story has also been reported elsewhere, we ultimately decided to post it in the spirit of open journalism. If the sory had been an unsubstantiated rumor, it would not have been posted.

Oh. I honestly always thought they were used interchangeably.

That's definitely scary, then, because to be in that state of exhaustion... wow.

In that case, it could also be HBK, since it's very probable that's he's worked all this time not really caring about his body. I know he even said once in an interview something about not bothering to go to doctors after coming back, because he doesn't want to be told he can't work anymore or something like that.

Scary stuff, if this is indeed turn out to be true (which seems that way so far). Hope whoever it is gets some time off and the proper treatment.

The problem with the "death watch" is that the time for rest and treatment might be long gone now. Too little, too late kinda thing.

IS long gone. Not might be. A death Watch is more or less he time where medicines and the like are failing, and hope is about all you have.

My thoughts and prayers are withwhoever it is (And I'm not even goiing to speculate...Whether it's Hunter or Angle, jobber or main eventer)

BlackDawn2024 11-17-2005 02:42 AM

Jesus Christ, is wrestling going to take another hit? Eddie was bad enough(R.I.P. :wavesad: ). I don't care who it is, Angle, JBL, Hunter, anyone, whoever it is, I don't want anyone else going.

Corkscrewed 11-17-2005 03:06 AM

Well, I'm just hoping the term "death watch" is being applied a little too liberally, because to think that another wrestler may be gone within a few days or weeks is just chilling.

Destor 11-17-2005 03:30 AM

Gossip; they're only trying to capitalize on recent events.

RGWhat316 11-17-2005 04:07 AM

God, I hope this isn't true. It's bad enough losing Eddie this week, and I dont know if we can take another one. And with Test's comments saying that he wouldn't be surprised if someone else passes on within the next year. The future is not looking good.

RP 11-17-2005 04:35 AM

I'll miss Ric Flair =(

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 11-17-2005 04:51 AM

I don't think any wrestler could make Eddie's passing look "minor" due to "credentials", particularly since Eddie was a main eventer, former world champion and multiple title holder. The only person with credentials that could be considered to be significantly more important would be Angle I would think.

Anyway, I would think that whoever it is, if it's that serious, they shouldn't be wrestling or traveling with WWE at all, but spending time with loved ones.

Has anybody actually seen this article in PWTorch? Or at least vouch for "WrestlingExposed"'s credibility?

Evil Vito 11-17-2005 06:40 AM

<font color=goldenrod>Looking back over the article (mentioning the wrestler's credentials), it really sounds like Angle :(

If Eddie AND Angle went down in one week, I dunno if I could bring myself to keep watching :(

Anyway, I'm hoping that this is horribly blown out of proportion, as someone has said before. Maybe "Death Watch" was someone else's spin on it, or the like.

Xero 11-17-2005 10:02 AM

When I first read this, my mind immediately went to Taker for some reason. But now that someone mentioned Angle's sister with heart disease... My God. If Angle were to die anytime soon the wrestling industry would collapse. Losing two main event wrestlers in less than a year would be bad enough (not saying any other death/wrestling death is any less important), but losing two guys like Eddie AND Angle...

Kane Knight 11-17-2005 10:08 AM

Yeah, two of their top stars in a matter of days would be horrendous.

Cool King 11-17-2005 10:20 AM

Well I think I know who it might be. I'll just write a list of the wrestlers I think it is and why it would over shadow Eddie's Death(R.I.P).

HBK (The guy as been in the WWE for a very long time, He has won loads of Titles and he's famous for the Montreal Incident.)

Angle (He won an Olyimpic Medal for America, He's also the first and only gold medalist in the WWE)

Undertaker (The Guys a legend, 'nuff said)

HHH (He's the #1 Heel in the WWE, and he's married to the bosses daughter)

Benoit (He's Eddie's best friend, and it would be over shadow Eddie's death because first Eddie died, then his best friend dies.)

Austin (He's been drinking one hell of alot for years, and Chavo Classic might be ring about his liver)

Flair (See Taker)

Hogan (See Taker and Flair)

Vince (He owns the damn company! And he's the only guy not to know about the Death Watch. You wouldn't tell someone that your gonna be watching them because they might die soon.)

addy2hotty 11-17-2005 10:28 AM

It's got to be Kurt. No-one else makes sense. Fuck, he's let his marriage die for the sake of the buisness, he's let his relationship with his young daughter flounder for the same reason. If he's willing to sacrifice those things, then his health will not be an issue at all.

I just hope that he's seen whats happened to Eddie, and realises that after SS, he should take a long long break from it all. If he wants one last WM match next year, then I'd say let him have it.

Kurt could quite possibly be the best in-ring performer of all time. I don't want, and I hope to hell Vince doesn't want to have to see another tribute show to a talent who has given so much. Simply because he didn't want to say 'stop'.

And the reason why it would be more in the media? He's a US gold medallist of course, and the story of him winning the Gold was one of the stories of the 1996 Olympics. Damn, we heard the story in the UK that year.

snakeboss 11-17-2005 10:48 AM

Kurt isn't that greater than Eddie, so I doubt it's Kurt because Eddie's death really shouldn't be seen as minor compared to Kurt's.
I'm thinking either:
Hulk Hogan.
Ric Flair.
Mick Foley.

Kane Knight 11-17-2005 10:57 AM

Because it's not like who is "greater" is subjective or anything, or like some people might actually revere Angle over Eddie because he won a gold medal in the Olympics (With a broken freakin' neck, no less).

KingofOldSchool 11-17-2005 11:53 AM

I'm not even going to begin to think about it.

VonErich Lives 11-17-2005 12:03 PM

I get a kick out of how everyone is taking wild gusses on who it is and why, yet everyone got all pissy when some people guessed Eddie died from Roids (no, he died from other drugs).

NoRoolz 11-17-2005 12:12 PM

Fuck. I really hope this is B/S :(. Angle does seem likely, although I could see someone like Cena or Orton on deathwatch, because they would be a huge shock, and due to them being so young, and Cena as number 1, it would be as big a shock as Eddie (I refuse to say a bigger shock).

Now I don't want to wish death on anybody, and pray this is all a hoax.

Kane Knight 11-17-2005 12:47 PM

Well, he is...

RGWhat316 11-17-2005 01:46 PM

Damn, I really got a bad feeling on Angle. I've read his book and about how many injuries he even got during the olympics. Now he's had almost 6 years of WWE bumps and bruises on him as well. Not to mention he had temporarily neck surgery that only kept him out 3 months. I'm a bigger Angle fan than I was Eddie, so if we lose Kurt. I dunno, don't even want to think about it.

I'm thinkin Flair, HBK or Taker, since they're all gettin up there in age. Remember, Eddie died young, so it could really be ANYONE. I really hope whoever this person is, they won't kick the bucket for a loooong time. I'm still having issues with coping with Eddie's death.

Yeah, honestly, when I first read this story at prowrestling.com, the first thing I thought of was capitalizing on Eddie's death, and if this IS that (which I'm leaning towards), it's sick.

We heard nothing about anyone being on a "death watch" until Eddie Guerrero died, and now all of a sudden, people are getting on their high horse and saying who should be doing what, and prescribing time off. I just hope no one on the active roster dies within the next six months to a year, even moreso than normal, simply for the sake of disproving this little article. (I'm well aware that it can't be disproven by a sudden death happening in the near future anymore than it can be proven by a death occurring, and then someone saying, "That was the guy!"

RaginRonic 11-18-2005 01:09 AM

You know, I'm one of those wrestling fans that's caught in the 'no-man's-land' of having both mark and smark views on pro wrestling/sports-entertainment.

It's like, I know about the realities of wrestling, but still, even though it's weird to talk about today, still believe in this good/bad-black/white perception of wrestlers that existed until 1996 in WCW, and 1998 in WWF/WWE.

And, for the sake of total transparency here, I'm not a Kurt Angle fan right now. :|

But when I read that piece on Kurt that appeared in an earlier thread, I started to get a little bit worried about him too. I really don't want to see Kurt Thomas Angle wnd up in the ring obituary column anytime soon.

I was extremely saddened when guys like Rude, Bulldog, Pillman, fellow Canuck Owen, Miss Liz, Candido, BossMan, LOD's Hawk, and now, most recently, Eddie passed away. I just don't really want to see Kurt placed in the same category as the above names.

I hope and pray that Kurt can swallow his pride, tell his ego to fuck off for a while, and get some damn treatment and rest, if it is indeed Kurt involved in this 'DeathWatch'.

I don't want to have to watch a Kurt Angle Tribute Show anytime soon, if at all anymore. I've grown tired of crying inside when looking at pictures of recently deceased wrestlers/entertainers. :(
