World of Warcraft

I know I'm not the only one here that plays the Warcraft games and I'm sure I'm not the only one waiting for this game to come out so for those of you intrested, World of Warcraft Beta sign-ups start Wednesday.

I figured if I made that the title this topic would die when the game is released or if someone gets in it so I figured if this stays around I'm sure some of us could put it to good use.

DS 01-26-2004 10:31 PM

Forgot to say the sign-ups are on Blizzard.com and they aren't first come first serve so don't worry about rushing to put it in. Only a week though so don't forget.

Buzzkill 01-26-2004 10:58 PM

i cant waitttt

Funky Fly 01-26-2004 11:19 PM

DS 01-27-2004 03:50 PM

World of Warcraft is basically a Warcraft game but in the form of MMORPG. There's a little more features added such as first person view too. Sounds like it will be a great game.

road doggy dogg 01-27-2004 04:39 PM

For this initial phase of the World of Warcraft beta test, we will only be able to accept applications from Canada, Korea, and the US.

Hahaha Ant got punk'dddddd

Anywho, it looks amazing. I'm definitely at least going to try it for a month.

sucafrutpi 01-27-2004 06:22 PM

i'm counting the hours til signups start. i really hope i get picked. for those of you who have done beta test for blizzard before, how do they do it? email you to tell you got picked with a link to the game dl?

Funky Fly 01-27-2004 09:19 PM

Oh, shit! I actually have heard of that game. Hott.

DS 01-27-2004 09:52 PM

I thought today was Wednesday so I was refreshing the site and it wouldn't show. :o

If they are anything like other beta tests, probably are, they will probably send you an email to tell you that you got in. Then I don't know. Maybe a link or actual beta CD.

sucafrutpi 01-27-2004 11:49 PM

i hope they mail cd's, but i doubt they will. it would save me 3 days of downloading :|

Silent 01-28-2004 07:37 PM

Opens in like an hour, gonna sign up.

sucafrutpi 01-28-2004 08:28 PM

oh yeah. the wait to feb 4 is going to be hellish.

DS 01-28-2004 09:12 PM

 It's up but it won't let me submit. :( I'll keep trying.

sucafrutpi 01-28-2004 09:46 PM

same here. their servers must be overwhelmed. i'll wait til later and try again. did you see the fascist mac system requirements? i don't know what to make of it. either the mac version is really poorly written or you can't adjust graphics settings. if the final version is like that, they won't be selling very many copies. requiring testers to have an OS that only just came out in nov is crazy...512 meg of ram min?!?! it's a ****ing game, not autoCAD!!! and 64 meg of vRAM min, when the pc version only needs a geforce "world's shittiest video card" 2. wtf?
:wtf:

DS 01-28-2004 09:49 PM

LOL

DS 01-28-2004 09:51 PM

I hear their servers are incredibly lagged right now. I'm glad I upgraded my PC or I wouldn't have stood a chance.

On step 2 right now. :(

Silent 01-28-2004 09:59 PM

Holy shit the site is slow.

Silent 01-28-2004 10:02 PM

And yeah what the **** is up with the mac requirements?!

My computer doesn't even meet the min. requirements for processor speed. I'm 200 mhz short. My video card also might be too slow.

Oh well, I'll sign up anyway. Maybe my friend will get it on his PC and I can play it over there.

sucafrutpi 01-28-2004 10:04 PM

i don't think your comp's speed will necessarily be a factor on pc. the system requirements for pc are basically any computer made withing the last 3-5 years  i on the other hand may have an advantage, since most mac owners won't meet the minimum system requirements. i'll have to upgraded my OS to play, and my laptop is only 5 months old :GAY:

that sux :( if you only have an 800 mhz processor, you don't have a video card with at least 64 of video ram...unless you have an old powermac and upgraded the video card. they might not care. you could always buy a POS eMachines online for like $200 lol. i can't imagine that the final version will be as restrictive on system requirements for mac...they would barely make any ****ing money off it. they probably just picked requirements for the range of systems they haven't been able to test yet. or like i said earlier, it is poorly written and they will tweak it later when they have a bit more time.

DS 01-28-2004 10:13 PM

There are too many people accessing the Web site at this time.

Figured.

sucafrutpi 01-28-2004 10:25 PM

at least you got a message. i just get my browser's 'can't load this page' message. WEAK! i hope this isn't indicative of the kind of performance we can expect from their game network...of course it is still early on the west coast, so i bet they are all flooding the website over there. :-\

DS 01-28-2004 10:33 PM

That was the first time I recieved that message. It's usually just the "Can't Load..." page.

DS 01-28-2004 11:28 PM

Finally got done with it.

Silent 01-28-2004 11:31 PM

I have an eMac. I really want a tower machine that I can upgrade. Preferably a G5, but they are expensive. I would go for a G4 though, don't need any special hardware like a printer or monitor, so maybe I can get one on eBay or something. Any suggestions?

road doggy dogg 01-29-2004 01:50 AM

Holy Jesus am I glad it's not on a first-come first-serve basis

Went to try earlier tonight and got the same problems as most people here.

Even worse, my PC's internet seems to have gotten the boot, so I can't even really apply. I got a bit through it before my internet went out, and it said something about testing your PC's specs, so I'd rather it test the specs on that one than on this one, so I'll have to wait.

But man, site was going hella slow earlier. I bet it was all them damn Koreans

KleptoKlown 01-29-2004 02:05 PM

Gonna try and register from work and from home, double my chances

KleptoKlown 01-29-2004 02:07 PM

feck, my work computer sucks :(

G 01-29-2004 02:27 PM

I still can't get through :(

Silent 01-29-2004 03:47 PM

OMFG I'm mad now.

I decided WoW was a good reason to go get a new computer finally, so I did. Got a new 1.6 GHz G5 mac, and I bring it home, install the OS upgrades, and BAM it won't even boot up now.

The computer gods hate me.

road doggy dogg 01-29-2004 04:20 PM

SSSSSSSSSSSSSssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Got my internet fixed and signed up. Nobody must be doing it right now, 'cause I went through totally lag-free and got finished up within 2 minutes. HOT. I can't wait for this game to come out.

Silent 01-29-2004 07:56 PM

K, got a replacement computer that works, and I signed up. Hope I get in.

I took it back to original store, and they didn't believe it was broken or something, so I waited for almost 2 hours as they tried all these different video connectors and stuff. Finally they just gave me a refund, and I drove to the Apple store in the mall, and bought the same computer there.

sucafrutpi 01-30-2004 07:54 PM

yeah, i'm not surpised that they didn't take it right back. that's kind of an odd occurance. did you get it at an applestore, compusa, or somewhere else?

Silent 01-30-2004 10:31 PM

It's called Fry's Electronics. I dunno if it's a national store. Seems like it though.

They suck.

sucafrutpi 01-31-2004 11:43 AM

haha. yeah i saw them on the apple retailers sections of apple.com. i only go to applestores when i can (like right now i'm about to drive to the nearest one in Richmond, Va), but sometimes i have to go to compusa's just cause they are closer.

Silent 01-31-2004 11:49 AM

CompUSA has some bad customer service too... I tried to buy a laptop with my dad there about 2 years ago, and it took them 45 minutes to come out and tell me that they were sold out. After I paid for it.

sucafrutpi 01-31-2004 09:59 PM

ROFL! yeah they must have the worst customer service in the history of retail. everytime i have ever had a question, it took 45 min to find a rep who wasn't busy or actually had some clue of what i was talking about. i usually just look up info on the internet, cause it takes less time or call an applestore. the reps at applestores [in my experience] have always been really helpful.

Silent 02-01-2004 03:20 AM

Yeah the apple store is awesome. I decided I'm gonna take the longer drive to go there whenever I need something for my computer.

sucafrutpi 02-01-2004 05:14 AM

where is the closest one to you? i have to drive all the way up to richmond, which is like 70 miles from here....and the traffic is sometimes heavy :-\

Silent 02-01-2004 01:04 PM

Damn, that sucks. There is one in the mall about 15 minutes (with light traffic) away. Closer to a half hour with heavy traffic.

road doggy dogg 02-03-2004 07:10 AM

MAaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. I've just been reading past articles and interviews and all that shit about the game. I haven't really read much about it until last night, to be honest. But damn, I'm really pumped for this. The way it sounds, it seems like it will be a nice mix of Diablo and Warcraft. The way the quests are and all makes it seem very Diablo-ish (which IMO is very cool), while keeping the awesome Warcraft feel to it. I hope to God that I can test the beta out, although I highly doubt that. I just hope the game isn't horribly delayed, 'cause if I can't play it within the next year or two someone might get hurt.

Silent 02-03-2004 11:01 PM

At least an MMORPG can't get stolen (like Half Life 2) so we don't have to worry about it being delayed because of that.

And it looks like a billion people are trying to play beta, so hopefully a lot of the bugs will be caught and filtered out before the final release.

Buzzkill 02-04-2004 01:11 AM

WOW did get leaked actually, just an early alpha build, you can explore the world, look at character models, thats about it

Silent 02-05-2004 01:27 AM

Are you serious man?

F</>ucking people, I swear to god. If WoW gets delayed because of some hackers, I'm going to track them down and beat the shit out of them, and then make them eat their own shit.

sucafrutpi 02-05-2004 08:35 PM

anyone gotten a response on their application yet? i know they said it would take a couple weeks. i'm so impatient :(

DS 02-05-2004 09:26 PM

It won't get delayed.

I wouldn't expect the emails for at least another week.

DS 02-11-2004 10:03 PM

Emails haven't been sent out yet so if you haven't gotten one don't worry about not making it. Just a little update.

sucafrutpi 02-14-2004 11:24 PM

yeah, i'm such a loser. i've been checking my email every ****ing day. :-\

DS 03-17-2004 09:10 PM

They are posting on the Blizzard.com and WorldOfWarcraft.com that the betas will be sent out soon and that you are going to get the game by the downloader. So expect them to be out by about Friday.

Silent 03-17-2004 09:39 PM

I dont even remember what email I used to sign up :'(

I think it was my current one but I dunno.

road doggy dogg 03-18-2004 02:04 AM

http://www.3daffex.com/alex/1.WMV

Wow HOT video that was leaked about WoW. It shows a few of the different mounts and shit in the game. Pretty ****ing hot.

DS 03-19-2004 08:23 AM

The first round of beta emails has been sent out.

If you didn't recieve one they are going to send more at the start of each phase so there's still a chance.

sucafrutpi 03-29-2004 04:54 PM

we just pulled in the other day and i finally got an internet connection hooked up today. checked my email and i got selected for the beta. a 2 gig download on dialup!!! only 159 hours remaining.... too bad i have to wait until next week for the cable company to hook up cable.

road doggy dogg 03-29-2004 06:59 PM

SUN OF THE BEACH, FRUTPI

Let me in too, dammit :(:'(

Buzzkill 03-29-2004 07:23 PM

I will pay you 50 dollars for your beta account.

Buzzkill 03-29-2004 07:23 PM

And also RDD from what I have heard it is much more like the conventional MMORPG than it is diablo. This isnt bad, because the way everything all fits together is awesome.

DS 03-29-2004 07:27 PM

The emails that were sent out are for the first phase of the beta anyway. They are going to be sending more out and most of us will more then likely get in.

road doggy dogg 04-06-2004 03:24 PM

Man you better tell us how it is

DS 04-06-2004 11:48 PM

I heard this stage of beta isn't that good. It looks quite nice though. They put in a two headed ogre that you can have 2 people play on the same character. ;)

Actually, there are people petitioning to actually put it in now.

sucafrutpi 04-09-2004 04:37 AM

the beta is pretty good, but i'm having a tough time. the graphics look nice at 1024X768 with all other settings maxed, but it makes the game lag a bit more...and not my comp, but the actual servers. there aren't a lot of ppl on so i don't see why the servers should be lagging, but they do. it takes like a full minute for your spirit to respawn after dying most of the time. i started as a night elf priestess since the quota for night elf hunters was full; this screws me over since most of the quests (at least those that i've done so far) involve killing progressively stronger and larger groups of creatures...something a caster isn't very well suited for. i can't even recall how many times i've died...i made the mistake of wandering into starbreeze village, which is overrun with angry furlborgs, and had to die 20 times to get out. each time you die, your spirit reforms in the nearest village and you have to run to where your body is: or you can pay this bimbo npc 45 XP to resurrect you right there (**** THAT!). so then each death requires an odyssey back to where you died, and when you come back, your are almost dead. so you run ten steps, die again. rinse, wash, repeat :| . i've had it crash 3 times, and i've gotten disconnected from the server like 5 times. usually it likes to crash on the completion of a quest. not a big deal. just reopen the game and log back on and you are right back where you left off. the quests, for the most part guide you along a plot path...although there are the occasional 'gopher' quests, but they all yield decent experience. some of them are gay, cause they tell you to kill something that there are 3 different variations of, such as night sabers (tigers). one quest you kill 'young' night sabers, then in another you kill 'mangy' night sabers. they look practically the same on your screen and they are not interchangable for the quests. then there are the 'stalker' night sabers that appear out of nowhere (they have shadowmelding that works in broad daylight too :| ) and slaughter you. where it gets frustrating is that i was just start to really level up (i'm at 5 now) but now all the creatures gang up on you. so if you attack something...or something attacks you, all the surrounding creatures come over to **** YOU UP. as a priestess, this is especially damning, because if they hit you twice in quick succession, it interrupts your heal spell...i.e. wimpy priestess gets owned in 5 sec. :nono: and of course you don't even have the agility to outrun even the shittiest enemy.

anyway, if anyone has questions, i'll be glad to answer them if i can...i'll post some screenshots later... :wavesad:

Y2Ant 04-09-2004 08:12 AM

Post some screenshots of the hot female characters. :shifty:

Also, post pics of you jobbing to a dingo-like creature, or the Quill Rat equivalent in WoW.

sucafrutpi 04-10-2004 03:14 AM

haha, there are not dingos or quill rats in teldrassil. maybe when my adventures take me beyond that.

sucafrutpi 04-15-2004 01:33 AM

heh, so i was gonna logon and play, but they applied a new patch to the servers requiring you to uninstall, redownload, and reinstall the game. 2 more gigs of downloading...only at 35 kb/s this time since less people have it. ugh. :|

sucafrutpi 04-30-2004 06:14 PM

i finally got on and played it again. this phase is limited to alliances and hordes races, so i can't continue with my nightelf character :/ . i took some scenery screenshots: http://homepage.mac.com/opaldrake/PhotoAlbum6.html
they are big, but i wanted to preserve the quality. here's a link from a guy that does a lot of spell screenshots, which are considerably more flashy: http://www.xennon.co.uk/jadedsouls/viewtopic.php?t=34

WHOOOOOOOO

RBM 11-05-2004 01:57 PM

Me and alot of my wc3 clanmates/community friends are going to be starting up a horde guild if you all want into that.

mmm....November 23rd...

Requiem 11-06-2004 02:21 PM

God damn it I'm getting sick of waiting... monday is open beta, and I'm going crazy with nothing to play right now.

Buzzkill 11-06-2004 02:33 PM

Been in the Beta since June, probably not going to buy it.

Y2Ant 11-06-2004 07:52 PM

Horde

Like all the guys i'm gonna make will be human or elf.

road doggy dogg 11-06-2004 08:04 PM

I'm probably gonna play with Mike and Julian (prallisk and lyeric from battle.net if you've ever played WC3 with them with me or anything before) We should start a guild, and be RBM's rival :foc:

Y2Ant 11-06-2004 09:35 PM

Well, I wanna make a char in every class pretty much, the only one that doesn't really interest me is the Shaman, but i'll probably do one anyway.

Starting out though i'm only gonna do one or two and make them good

Y2Ant 11-06-2004 09:36 PM

So er, what I mean is that i'll probably be using humans/elves for the most part, but i'll make a horde char or two.

RBM 11-07-2004 05:41 PM

From the sounds of it, Europeans won't be getting the game until a bit after everyone else.

GG.

Y2Ant 11-07-2004 06:39 PM

Buzzkill 11-07-2004 07:13 PM

Sucks for Why Two Ant

Buzzkill 11-07-2004 07:18 PM

RDD, I hate to be a Buzzkil , but I hope you don't intend on playing with Ant...

Y2Ant 11-08-2004 12:44 AM

What the fuck.

Apocolyptik1 11-08-2004 04:04 AM

My brother signed up for the open beta, then went on an install for his work that took him out of state for 3 days so I got to play it pretty much straight through with the occasional break for work and eating.

I started about 6 guys and got them all to level 15 in the 3 days. One of my friends came over and made a guy that he played for a while.

I like the rogue the most currently. The combo system is really neat. It is very much like the diablo 2 assassin, whereas the have a combo build up skill then a finisher move after you have built it up to its max.

I played a warrior. Not much to talk about with them. They are the standard wack'em class that all games have. They are a bit different in this game though seeings how their attacks work off of rage. Your rage builds up with every attack you do and you can execute special attacks you have at the cost of your rage. It also degenrates if you dont use it.

I thought paladins are cool also. Not only do they have the aura's like D2 but they also have seals that they can use on themselves and party members to do different effects. They have some cool melee skills and also get some clerical healing spells at a slower rate the the priest.

Tried the mage. They are just your standard cast spells that cause damage quickly caster. The priest is also your standard healer like other mmorpg's.

The Shaman is about the same as other games. They cast spells that hurt, spells that heal, and have totems that you can cast that will help/effect your party or monsters.

I watched my friend play a hunter but he never got high enough to get a pet. They are the ranged attackers in the game. The dwarves get rifles, which are cool cause you can get different types of ammo like exploding shells. The also get skills to use for the ranged stuff, and some skills for melee.

I didnt get a chance to play a druid, but I wasnt really interested to play it also, so no loss their.

Game handles very well. I did not get dropped once at all while I played it. It wasnt laggy when I played it either. The graphics are phenominal and the intro video is awe-inspiring.

Definitely grabbing it on the 23rd and becoming reobsessed with another game.

At 41%.. downloading the open beta now. Luckily, I signed up before they closed the account sign-ups, unlike DS... LOL

Fileplanet account is great.. wish I had gotten it sooner.

70% downloaded for me. I dunno how my housemate convinced Blizzard that Canterbury is in the US, but I frikkin love him for it. :D

Played a Druid on closed Beta, they're pretty cool. Can power themselves up quite well and get to shapeshift at high levels. Gonna be playing a human methinks (though I think I'll have to give the Taurans a go as I was an avid Wookiee player on SWG and a big cow is about as close as it gets to a big monkey) ;)

Yes I also happened to jump in again before it closed down. Got it all downloaded and ready to go last night at 4 in the morning, then woke up today on wednesday to find it is down for 2 to 3 hours.

That is so blizzard for me.

:( I'd be really disappointed if the beta was longer then a week but since it's pretty much just the final stress test, I don't really mind. Plus I have Halo 2 and GTA to play in the time from now to the release.

Stupid fileplanet has fucked up files... so after I downloaded it there, I'm having to use the blizzard downloader to go over any corrupt or incomplete files.
