Batista relinquishes World Heavyweight Championship

January 10, 2006

Tonight at the SmackDown television taping in Philadelphia, Batista’s torn right triceps forced him to relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship over to General Manager Theodore Long.
Long immediately declared that there would be a Battle Royal tonight to determine the new World Heavyweight Champion.

I have a feeling it's going to be The Undertaker or Randy Orton. I hope it's neither. Personally, I hope they do something unpredictable and have Booker T or Chris Benoit win. It would actually be interesting to see Randy Orton beat Chris Benoit earlier, which makes Booker T WWE United States Champion, which he rubs in Benoit's face, then Benoit goes on to win the Battle Royal and rubs the bigger belt in Booker's face. Won't happen, though.

I would mark out if Kane or Kurt Angle made the surprise jump to SmackDown! and won. Shawn Michaels then wins the Royal Rumble after being upset he still hasn't settled his score with Angle, then we get Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels for the World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 22, with Kurt Angle retaining due to a Vince McMahon "ring the bell" screwjob while HBK is in the Ankle Lock. Then you can have Kurt Angle vs. Batista at Summerslam, with an agry Dave wanting to win back his Championship. I'd probably go as far as having him win the title, again.

But yeah, they could really use this as a chance to elevate some guy like William Regal or yes, Matt Hardy. Just thought I'd note I'm glad Batista held his belt longer than Cena held his.

Why not? It would unify the World Championships, and make Edge look even better.

If I could choose one man, and one man alone to win the World Heavyweight Championship today, it would be a returning Chris Jericho.

Even though I'd like to see Orton win it, I'd love it if Mysterio won it. Just imagine the crowd reaction when Rey is announced as the new world heavyweight champion. :love:

Benoit is in an ok position to take it and feud with OPrton till WM making Randy look strong in winning at WM. He can lose the U.S. to Booker earlier in the night via RKO interference and then he beats the odds to win the belt later in the night and feud Orton.

That being said Favourites have to be RKO, Taker and perhaps Rey for his affiliation with Tista. Then again they might have a brain explosion and continue the Booker push by going double title?

In a swerve, Juventud will come back with mask full in tow and win the World Title. Thus setting up a mask vs. mask World Title match against Rey at the Royal Rumble.

If a new champion is crowned tonite, I think it'll either be Rey Rey (then defend against Henry at Rumble), Taker, or Orton. If not, and they leave it open for the Royal Rumble winner, being if the winner is from RAW, he will go to SD, I see it being Angle, or hell, even RVD *wakes up*. But yea, I think that would be a great way to attempt to make up for the SD roster's bad breaks, and it actually making some sense in the process. :y: :)

Well not so much a babyface as a ruthless badass that is now addressed as being cheered by the crowd. The way they booked him in that match (getting put through the announce table, ganged up by SmackDown! wrestlers, etc.) makes him look like a comeback artist.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say Angle says he doesn't need to face HBK, since he's on SmackDown! now, and we still don't know who the better man is, so Michaels wins the Royal Rumble, and we get HBK on SmackDown! leading up to WrestleMania 22, where Angle has HBk in the Ankle Lock, but Michaels won't give until Vince rings the bell. :love:

It just occured to me, that Angle & Daivari could look really strong if the hold the WWE Tag Team Championship and WWE Cruiserweight Championship as well. I don't know who won the Best of Seven Series, but if it was Chris Benoit, you can get Benoit trying to be the only Champion left on SmackDown! fighting Angle & Daivari. Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit at the Royal Rumble for the World Heavyweight Championship AND the WWE United States Championship? Who can say "Two-Fall Match"? :drool:
