I vaguely remember Scott Hall throwing a title away in a trash can when he went to WCW. Does anyone remember this? What title was it?

The World Heavywieght Title.

I think it was the the US title. I remember reading that (Never watched WCW) Nash awarded him the belt and he got sick of carrying it so he threw it in the trash.

i have read the pro wrestling illustrated 2005 edition and it says it was the nwa/wcw television title

I didnt think it was Hall that did it but someone threw a title in the bin and Jim Duggan as Janitor later found it.

Might have been Hall actualy, when he was U.S. champ as well.

It was definitely Hall, at the time that he was both US and TV champ at the end of 1999. He was being interviewed backstage by Chavo Guerrero - Chavo asked Hall when he would be defending the TV title. Hall said that he got no TV dinners or met any TV stars while he held the title, and slammed it into the trashcan.

It was the TV title. Hacksaw Jim Duggan then found it in the trash and was then crowned the new TV champ.

Another classic case of WCW title booking.

I'm pretty sure right after Hall said that, he looked to Nash (who was in the locker room with him) and said "Hey, watch this." And he tossed it in the garbage like a basketball. Man, that was awesome.

Yep in 02 it was unifed with the I-C title as RVD beat Jeff Hardy. (they also did this with the hardcore title and eventually for a time had the I-C title unifed with the World Title as well)

Yeah. Chavo was doing his Amway gimmick at that point. Hall had won the TV title from Rick Steiner via forfit and was far above the belt overness wise, it's just he wasn't reliable enough for other championships. Nash threw it in the trash. The whole thing was done in typical nWo/Outsider fashion with the whole piss on tradition as well as some clever notes for smarks. i.e. Nash threw it in the trash similar to what Madusa did when she showed up in WCW with the WWF's Women's Championship. Also, Nash tossed it similar to a basketball, having college ball as well some time over in Europe before injuring himself (shocker there) and getting into pro-wrestling.

Duggan was doing a janitor gimmick when he found the title in a clear trashbag. He began defending it (mostly on Saturday Night).

Why was it thrown away? Well, if you check the history... Hall won the belt via forfeit on the same show as Norman Smiley was crowned WCW's first Hardcore Champion. They "most likely" didn't want to saturate the market with too many titles, which can tarnish importance if you've too many guys walking around with belts.

This was during the time when Eric Bischoff "fired" Hacksaw and then hired him back as a janitor.

I do find it funny that WCW's continuity had it so that the TV Title was still in a bin months after it had originally been trashed by Scott "Alco" Hall.
