Covers that are quite different from the original song
I was listening to Sun Kil Moon's cover of Modest Mouse's "Ocean Breathes Salty". I think I actually like it better than the original for it's acoustic nature.
So throw out some other radically different covers, whether they're better or worse than the original. |
Rasputina's cover of Pink Floyd's "Wish you were here."
Can't say I've heard the original, but Rasputina's version is hot. Cellos = Hotness  Maplebee's covers of Doris Day's "Perhaps Perhaps." Have to say once again I've never heard the original, but Maplebee's version is bonkers. |
Oh, and Rasputina made a song out of the "This Little Piggy" nursery rhyme, which to is bonkers.
Quirky women = Hotness |
Just bought a fucking Rasputina CD off of pretty much what little I could find out about them after reading your post.
Awesome shit. |
Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt > original by NIN

Cash's version is good, but I'll always prefer the original.
|
Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt > Anything NIN has put out, give or take 5 songs, not including Hurt.

Rammstein's version of Stripped by Depeche Mode is pretty fucked. I like both versions.

Bowie's covers in general are rather different (Not really his Pin-Ups stuff), specifically Cactus (The Pixies) and Pablo Picasso (The Modern Lovers) though.
|
Michael Hutchence's cover of The Passenger by Iggy Pop. Far better than the original IMHO.

Sixpence None the Richer did a shockingly poor cover of Crowded House - Don't Dream it's Over :(

Throwdown - Baby Got Back |
Marilyn Manson - Tainted Love
Horrible, horrible cover. |
I forgot A Perfect Circle's covers album. There's a bunch of songs on there but the covers of Imagine by John Lennon and What's Goin On by Marvin Gaye are pretty sweet (though some people will consider them blasphemy, no doubt)

Having said that I'm surprised someone like Lacuna Coil hasn't done a cover of Kiss From A Rose yet. |
Marilyn Manson-Sweet Dreams
|
There's this canadian band called Out of your Mouth that does a rock cover of Madonna's "Music". Pretty good.
Also, anything from the Pink Floyd Symphonic Album. |
Quote:
Oh yeah, and Natalie Imbruglia's cover of Torn is pretty different from the original. |
Manson's version of Sweet Dreams is really different compared to the original.
Elbow's version of Independant Woman is alot different too. |
APC's version of "The Nurse who Loved Me," originally by Failure, is very different from the original. But both are pretty hot.

Yeah, but they redid Where Did You Sleep Last Night as well.
|
I remember Eddie Vedder doing a cover of Sunday Bloody Sunday, without remembering too much about it it was rather different from the original.
|
Wait a minute....Natalie Imbruglia's 'Torn' is a cover? :rant::VMAD:
|
Hurt, Hallelujah and All Along the Watchtower are classic covers.
as for covers that sound nothing like the original - anything by Richard Cheese. Lounge versions of Rape Me, Fight For Your Right and Guerilla Radio amongst others.. |
Quote:
Yup. It was originally done by a band called "Ednaswap." The band also wrote songs done by Madonna and Sinead O'Connor. |
Nickel Creek's version of Toxic (Britney Spears) actually kicks some serious ass (can hear it on their myspace website if you haven't had the pleasure to hear it live), especially when you have Chris Thile taking the piss throughout the song.
|
LOL. That reminds me. I heard Ben Patton cover "Oops, I did it agian" when he performed here. Sounded nothing like the original song.
|
staying on the britney theme travis used to do baby one more time in their live sets with just fran and a guitar!
