Spirit Squad! *SPOILERS*

WHOOOOO

In case anyone was wondering, here's the guys who were in The Spirit Squad on Raw.

Ken Doane
Mike Mondo
Nick Mitchell
Johnny Jeter (Joined the squad recent in OVW after having his hair cut)
Nick Nemeth ( Honestly not sure if he was in it before, but they found something for him to do.)

So, in closing, The Spirit Squad will own your soul.

Dorkchop 01-24-2006 12:53 AM

Yeah, what the fuck was that?

What Would Kevin Do? 01-24-2006 01:02 AM

It was the Spirit Squad.

Couldn't you tell?

Think about it

Metro Male Cheerleaders = Uber heels.

What Would Kevin Do? 01-24-2006 01:07 AM

Oh, and Ken Doane was trained by Killer Kawalski. Starting at age 13.

Xero 01-24-2006 01:19 AM

You know, that segment made me come as close as I have in months to changing the channel on RAW.

Nervous Ferret 01-24-2006 01:21 AM

Is Mike Mondo of any relation to Nick Mondo

Stick with this, trust me.

When you're all marking out over the Spirit Squad, just remember who stood by them when you schmucks doubted them.

Mr. Nerfect 01-24-2006 02:06 AM

I doubt the gimmick for one reason, and one reason only. There are five guys there. I assume "The Nicks" are going to be a tag team, but what about the other three? Random singles matches on Heat? It might work, but I can see these guys getting lost in the shuffle.

I hope they didn't make Jeter cut his hair.

FourFifty 01-24-2006 02:22 AM

I totally popped for them, and I had no idea who the hell they were.

Jeter already cut his hair. It was done at the last OVW show.

domononizuka 01-24-2006 02:37 AM

Jeters hair was cut by Seth Skyfire last week at a OVW taping.Thats what led to him joining the spirit squad.Funny thing is Ken Doane didnt have anything to do with the Spirit Squad in OVW.This should be a awesome stable though seeing as theres alot of great talent in this group.

See, someone knows what he's talking about.

If this works, I'm thinking Doane will become the leader, and eventually Jeter will turn face and feud with Doane.

domononizuka 01-24-2006 02:46 AM

I could see Doane being the leader seeing as out of that group he faired the best in OVW.Mondo and Jeter are both great to but i think there size will hold them back in the WWE.Actualy watched new years resolution with Mondo and Nameth from what i was told there suppose to be getting a push sometime after the royal rumble.

Eunos 01-24-2006 04:31 AM

I dunno.. They could prove to be quite interesting.

Admitingly whilst watching it last night i was like.. oooooooooooo k.

But ill give them a chance before i judge Harshly.

Nick nemeth was Kerwin White's Sidekick originally right?

Jonster 01-24-2006 07:17 AM

Ouendan!

WTFHOLYMOTHERSHITOMGFCUKBLOODYMOTHERA$$BYGAWDHOLYFCUKCOCKSHIT!!!

I so marked out though

jerichoholic169 01-24-2006 07:59 AM

i think my facial reaction was akin to one of Regal's priceless reactions. A WTF moment if there ever was one.

Destor 01-24-2006 08:28 AM

The Spirit Squad will own you all in due time. To much talent to go unnoticed.

Can't they at least find some guys who look like cheerleaders?

Destor 01-24-2006 08:51 AM

You're just pissed 'cause they didn't give you a chubby.

They may be good wrestlers, but the gimmick sucks. I fucking hate the gimmick. Not in a "heel" type of way, in a "Get the fuck off my TV" kind of way.

Destor 01-24-2006 09:04 AM

You made that assessment in the five minute they were on TV? You really gave them a chance huh? They can play it well. (annoying heels)

Is what I saw the entire gimmick or does it go further than the modified classic "cheering/interfering at ringside"?

You know, I've got to agree. They were so annoying that was about the time I stopped watching Raw.

Making people turn off their TVs is a sign of a good heel!

:shifty:

Volare 01-24-2006 09:30 AM

i hope at least they aren't gonna be a "squash" stable like the mean street posse was

hb2k 01-24-2006 09:51 AM

Things is, the act might get over on a lower card scale, but none of the 5 individuals, at least 2 of which could be successful on their own (Jeter and Doane), none - will get over with this. The act may be, but there's so many new faces that no-one knows that they'll just be jobbers, because you can't bring that many unknowns in at once in one setting and expect them all to individually get over.

owenbrown 01-24-2006 10:19 AM

That segment last nite was more gay that the whole entire "Billy & Chuck" angle ever was.... oh and....

LOL...

When they came out I was thinking they were the Mean Street Posse Version 2

hb2k 01-24-2006 11:10 AM

Don't rag on the posse - Pete and Rodney are bad notherfuckers.

Stickman 01-24-2006 11:56 AM

Did you see the crowd reaction? NOTHING. I almost turned the channel too, I mean, first it was during a King/Coach match so that is a channel changer then these gay cheerleaders came prancing out. Can you smell the ratings. I'm all for stables, but a stable full of cheerleaders who aren't female or anybody that the average fan or average "smark" even knows, is just stupid. If they were bad ass cheerleaders who didn't do dance routines and sing maybe, but the way they debuted was shit.

McLegend 01-24-2006 12:46 PM

It was the first time they have ever been on TV so of course the crowd is going to be hestiant on how to react to them.

I loved it though.

Blitz 01-24-2006 12:48 PM

My initial reaction was of the "Oh My God, this is idiotic" variety as well, but I'll give it a chance. Pretty much everyone on here said the Boogeyman would utterly suck as well, and now we're all marks for him. I've never seen any of these guys wrestle, but I've certainly heard about about their skills, and I look forward to seeing them compete.

That said, I'm sure they'll go nowhere. Can anyone honestly see WWE booking a male cheerleader as a threat to anyone? They'll probably have a comedy feud with the heartthrobs and within a year, 2 will be gone and the rest will be repackaged in other go nowhere gimmicks, wrestling in the main event on Heat every week.

I certainly hope I'm wrong.

domononizuka 01-24-2006 01:34 PM

This gimmick has been getting over real well in OVW so im assuming it will probably pick up in WWE.Some of their segments in OVW have been hilarious, but if the WWE turns them into a serious team it will flop. Also Mike Mondo has no relation to Nick Mondo.Mike Mondo has been in OVW for nearly 4 years training different talents.

Couple of points:
  • The Boogeyman still sucks, we're just marking out because it sucks.
  • We're actually seeing this gimmick in action, which is a little different than watching a promo or workingon hearsay. They're actually on our TV, so it's a little different.
  • Good wrestling will not get the gimmick over. I'm sure these guys really are brilliant wrestlers, but putting them in a menial low-card joke stable will kill almost anyone, even if it does get over.
Ponder for a moment, Scotty and II Cool. They got massively over, and Scotty still gets pops without Sexaaaaay and Rikishi. He's, at best, a loveable loser. Hurricane/Rosie. Even though they were still over, midcard was too good for them. Jokey/Gimmick feuds don't sell and don't much go anywhere, over or not.

Corkscrewed 01-24-2006 02:59 PM

Since when does "tremendous talent" matter in the WWE anyway? It's not like they get to perform innovative maneuvers day in and day out.

Kane Knight 01-24-2006 03:28 PM

Wow, it's gotten over on a non-international, hardly even known promotion. Unless they're Smarks, most fans probably never even heard of OVW.

Xero 01-24-2006 03:35 PM

CYCLOPTERSAURUS 01-24-2006 04:38 PM

I thought it was kinda funny, but if any of these guys actually have the potential to make it big down the line, it's a horrid idea to stick them in this stable, because it will likely ruin their careers.

Gertner 01-24-2006 04:44 PM

I friggen love it. Already my fav gimmick.

Shadow 01-24-2006 04:53 PM

Ahh the Spirit Squad....would've been mad over in the 80s.

Now....I see it getting the Conway reaction.

VonErich Lives 01-24-2006 04:54 PM

I don't see it working...

My main reason is, "Factions" or whatever you want to call these "groups" only work when either

a) There is another group for them to "battle" with.
DX v. The Corporation
Freebirds v. Von Erichs

b) They are so over and top of the game, that they can "battle everyone"
Evolution
Horsemen

I just don't see taking 5 new comers and making them a "group" as a good thing.

But who knows... I figure they'll end up with the Tag titles soon (when is the last time Show/Kane tag teamed?) and keep them by having the other 3 interfear in most matches... maybe some 3man or even 5 man tag match vs. mid carders?

dunno, it might work... I just don't see it working... Hopefully they at least provide some laughs.

My point was the crowd reaction that someone gets in OVW usualy gives you a sign of how WWE fans will react.

Innovator 01-24-2006 06:48 PM

Doane and Jeter could be top card heels, not main event but definitely top card.

That is until they get stuck with this gimmick.

The Naitch 01-24-2006 06:53 PM

im done with wrestling. later fags

Danny Electric 01-24-2006 07:03 PM

New Mean Street Posse haha

loopydate 01-24-2006 08:58 PM

I changed the channel when the Coach/King match started because, let's face it, it's Coach vs. King for a spot in the ROYAL FUCKING RUMBLE!

I switched back to see if it was over, and there was the Squad. I MISSED the Squad debuting!

Ken Doane and Johnny Jeter are going to be huge stars one day. The rest are talented as well, and will benefit from the rub they'll get working with those two. Assuming, of course, that they're allowed to...you know...do stuff other than just doing run-ins during announcer vs. announcer matches.

Natural Born Spirit

The Naitch 01-24-2006 09:14 PM

They should call them the Mark Jindrak Squad

I dunno, it seemed really awkward but I'll wait and see. Unless they just end up on Heat with Cade, Murdoch and the Heart Throbs, then I'll forget all about them.

Yeah that's another problem. They all look alike and without the uniforms would just be generic up and comers from OVW.

Skippord 01-24-2006 09:56 PM

I dont know what to think yet

mrslackalack 01-24-2006 10:08 PM

I thought I was watching WCW in the Russo era when they came out. (but for a second I was hoping a band would come out and play Boomer Sooner and J.R. would come out)

loopydate 01-24-2006 10:36 PM

It did have a sort of Natural Born Thrillers vibe to it. Can't believe that didn't occur to me, seeing as I am TPWW's resident NBT mark.

Now that I think about it, there are some definite parallels. I just hope that WWE handles Doane, Jeter, Nemeth, Mondo, and Mitchell better than they handled O'Haire, Palumbo, Jindrak, Stamboli, Stasiak, Reno, and Sanders (the last of whom could be a main-event heel by now...IF THEY'D JUST CALLED HIM UP BEFORE THEY RELEASED HIM!!!)

Loose Cannon 01-24-2006 10:38 PM

Sanders is one of my all-time favs. god, what a talker.

loopydate 01-24-2006 10:40 PM

If they'd used him right, "Above Average" Mike Sanders could have been one of the favorites in the Rumble this weekend. Seriously.

Blitz 01-24-2006 10:43 PM

Sanders was pretty good, but that might the stupidest nickname in the business.

"Above Average" :nono:

The Naitch 01-24-2006 11:05 PM

indeed.

Boondock Saint 01-25-2006 01:15 AM

Is Sanders still with TNA?

loopydate 01-25-2006 12:04 PM

Nope.

mrslackalack 01-25-2006 12:34 PM

I always wished Sanders got a chance with WWE.

I have to agree with several people that it was a "change the channel" moment. It kinda nullifies any argumement I make that wrestling isn't stupid.

aaronkyle86 01-27-2006 11:56 AM

Like I said in a previous Nick Mondo thread.... Mike Mondo>Nick Mondo.... I've been a Mike Mondo mark (Mondolian) since I first saw him in OVW.

Loose Cannon 01-27-2006 07:50 PM

Once again, Mike Sanders is the man.

Londoner 01-28-2006 03:51 PM

If this stable wins the tag titles, the tag titles will be buried even further into the ground than they already are.Same goes with any title they win actually.I had to turn over during this part,it was fucking awful.I'm just glad were getting up to date TNA shows now, once impact goes 2 hours, I think i'll be switching to TNA totally until WWE sorts itself out of this mess.

loopydate 01-28-2006 06:03 PM

OH, NO! A bunch of new people I've never seen! I must automatically assume they suck because they have an obnoxious gimmick! WWE is in a tailspin and will be out of business by the end of the year!

Skippord 01-28-2006 10:08 PM

Upon further review These guys seem alright and good at their gimmick. I just wanna see them wrestle.
