This game looks awesome. This could very well be one of the best (Maybe even the best) DS game to date (Though Zelda could take that award when it comes out). I can't see Nintendo messing this game up. Super Mario Sunshine had it's problems, but even with them it still was awesome.

Anyone else excited for this?

I read an interview with someone who worked on the game and he said they wanted it to be a sequel the the very first Super Mario Bros. Hence the name.

Here's a question for Y'all: This is gonna be a great game, but do you think it'll ruin the Super Mario Bros legacy?

Anyways, it's great. Really, really short but great. I think it's missing something though and for the life of me I can't work out what makes it not as good as a lot of the others. Maybe it;s the shit music, but I wouldn't have thought that would be the only reason.

I'm a little pissed off to be honest.

That's pretty short. I know the original games can be beaten quickly but I remember playing them for hours when I was little. That's kind of depressing. :(

In fact, two of the eight worlds can't be accessed by traditional means, so if you beat the game on a quick run-through you'll literally be skipping two worlds to do it.

I'm not disappointed at all. I think it's awesome. Much like you could beat about 12 levels minimum in SMW to get to Bowser, and only 2/3 of SMW would be beaten if you didn't get any of the secret level endings and Star Roads and Special World.

I'm still picking this up on Tuesday.

But they should have put a whole lotta levels in this game.

I died once, on world 7. Got every star coin first try and bought all the "wallpapers" for the touch screen.

I've discovered that there are certain types of gamers that aren't challenged by anything anymore. It must suck...every game's a challenge for me,mostly because I'm inept at 99% of video games but still enjoy them. Like a retard in a spelling bee. ;)

Only downside to this is that it's on the DS instead of the Cube. :(

Nothing against DS, but I dunno. I remember how awesome Sunshine was. Why waste a game THIS good on a handheld?

I guess I'm just used to the thought of if that I'm going to play a game, I'd rather be seated in front of a home console to play it and whatnot.

From what I'm hearing though, this game looks like it's worth plunking down the cash for a DS.

I still disagree that it's a waste. In fact, I wish they'd put more effort into more handheld games. Especially with rising prices.

Anyway, I'll probably get this. Unless it's super easier than SMW/SM3, I'll probably find some good gameplay time. Oldschool games are my kryptonite. I can beat the newer style of games no problem (They're always so dumbed down), but the classics seem to nail me. So unless it's on par with, say, Minish Cap (Easiest, shortest Zelda EVAR), I'll probably get my money's worth.

I'm hoping it's a lot more difficult than Super Princess Peach. That game was ridiculously easy. I love Toad, so saving the many Toads was awesome.

I didn't bother with SPP. Looked gay.

It was a fun classic side scrolling platformer. The boss battles were pretty neat. But waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy.

I found it funny how Peach's special powers in the game were her emotions. Haha, they called them vibes. Oh, sexism.

Sonic Rush is a pretty good sidescroller, far too short though :(

Gonna try Best Buy first. They had Mario 3 for GBA out like a week before release. It was obviously a fuck up but I still got it then and there.

SWEET. Just bought a Nintendo DS with 8 games for like $150 on eBay (gotta love it), gonna buy NSMB as soon as the DS arrives (in case it's shit and I can get money back).

Triple post, but here's my take on it, from the first level to level 2-4 or so.

The controls are old-school all the way. I got right into it and it felt a lot like the NES games. I even caught myself jumping back for a mushroom over a brick without thinking about it. It feels new but in an old sort of way.

There are way too many 1-ups in the game, much like their last few Mario games, but that's no real bad thing. It just means you'll never see a game over screen.

It feels to me like a cross between all the games from Mario 1 to Mario World.

Invincibility is AWESOME, but I've only encountered it twice. Once from one of the first worlds and again from a mushroom house, which I used to beat the Koopa Kid in one butt pound.

The one bad thing I came across was saving. You can only save when you beat a castle (there are two in each world like Mario 3) or when you open up a closed path. You can't save at any other time, and that's a fairly big downfall.

Besides that, though, I love the game. It makes Mario feel new all over again.

When they ported SMW to the GBA, it allowed you save at will, unlike the SNES version. Too bad they didn't do that this time around. But it sounds great. :D I'm gonna pick it up today hopefully.

I picked it up this afternoon. I played until I beat the second world. Super fun happy point form:

* First thing I did when I started the game was go to jump on the Goomba... Only I jumped too early so the Goomba ran into me and I died. That's right, the very first thing I did in the game was die... Immediately.

* I'm not used to playing a Mario platformer on my DS, but this game is easy to get into... I'm just working on getting the feel of it.

* I'm used to the side scrolling Mario games being more open. This game has more walls and blocks. It's not really a bad thing though.

* The huge mushroom is awesome. Enough said.

* graphics are good.

* Wall jumps are a sweet way to save from falling down a pit.

* There are a lot of ways to get 1ups.

* The castles feel like a perfect mix between Super Mario 3 and Super Mario World.

* Running through everything with the super huge mushroom is awesome.

* There are really fun mini games.

* The music is only ok. It could be a lot better, but it's not bad. Fine for a Mario game.

* So far my only real complaint is that you can't play one player as Luigi. Oh, and Toad should be in this game A LOT. More Toad for me, please.

* It would be neat if once you beat the game you could play the game as Luigi, Toad, Princess, and even a goomba or koopa troopa. It'd be awesome throwing fireballs as a goomba.

yeah everything in this game besides the music is awesome, and the music isn't terrible

And it doesn't play multiplayer on ANY game except DS games. No wirless, no wired hook-ups, nothing.

Some people were saying the music sucked in the preview videos Nintendo posted. It's not bad, but playing NSMB after playing Yoshi's Island, you really notice the music isn't as good at it should have been.

No game can be perfect.

Okay, so DS plays GBA games but not GB/GBC, right? If so, then I'm all set. I only have GBA and DS games coming to me.

Yeah, and you can't play multiplayer GBA games on the DS. Just keep your GBA dude, how much can you get for it anyway?

$30 probably. And since I have no friends, I wouldn't need multiplayer :'(
