E3
E3 is right around the corner. The big thing that may go down is the release dates for the PS3 and the Wiiveloution. Anybody planning on going?
|
I'm not going but I'm working on a game that's going to be there. I have high hopes for the whole event. It's always one of my favorite time of the year.
|
|
For expectations.
|
And this thread isn't?
|
Hadn't been until you posted the link.
|
Until May 10th this thread is just another expectations thread as well.
|
By that, after May 9th (when the conferences, and in turn the bigger announcements of the event) this thread can easily be used for anything E3 related. Rather then the thread you posted entitled "E3 2006 Expectations".
Not to mention the original question asked was if anyone planned on going. |

Well we better lock and delete this then.

Sony's E3 press conference is underway right now and while there hasn't been any HUGE announcements, I'll do a keynote play by play the best I can.
Some things so far: The HDD will be available with every system from the launch. RSS channel, expanded UMD video profile, Voice-over IP, camera and GPS support being added to PSP in future updates. Hirai says the "clear black" color system (PS3) will be available at launch. Little things are mentioned about the online service saying it will be free and that it will be like "air conditioning for a car." Meaning a standard feature. The PSP will be able to emulate PS1 games straight from a memory stick. People can pick up for "The PlayStation Card" at retailers, which will allow them to buy additional content. Phil Harrison shows the online store interface for the PS3. He shows an example of how it will work using Singstar for the PS3, scrolling through dozens of songs from Billy Joel to Destiny's Child. The interface includes a price ($0 for now to keep the pricing strategy secret) as well as other information about the song. There's also the option to see who else is on Singstar, and customize the user's background. They showed a video package of a bunch of games and then went into two specific new games. Eight Days is a GTA style 3rd person shooter that looked photo-realistic with amazing animations and life-like features. Naughty Dog shows a new gungle style shooting game which looked pretty nice as well. They also showed a lot of the new Gran Turismo if anyone is interested in that. |
Just a quick update, they have shown a handful of games from most genres. There's plenty of shooters (first and third), a lot of RPGs, sport games, and some fighting games as well. They all look brilliant compared to everything shown so far.
|
While this wasn't part of the PS3 conference, Square Enix announced Final Fantasy XIII for the PS3 and it will be directed by Yoshinori Kitase who did VI, VII, VIII, and X.

Picture of the PS3 Network. |
They're showing a video of NBA Live 07 right now with features like footplanting and character response. On the PS2 players could only move at 45 degree angles but on the PS3 they have full 360 degree movement with bending.
It's worthy to mention that all these games that are being played live are being played with what looks like a Dual Shock 2 controller. |
They just finished showing a video recap of the E3 package which included Madden, NBA Live, and Tiger Woods PGA. Each looked great. They are showing a video of Final Fantasy XIII (which will come as FFXIII and FFvsXIII). It doesn't look quite as good as Advent Children, but it looks pretty close. If that gives you something to base your judgements off of.
They are now showing a Metal Gear Solid 4 video. WOW. |
I can't see anything :'(
|
As soon as the MGS4 trailer gets up, I suggest everyone who is a fan to watch it. There is a huge surprise at the end, almost. They are also spelling it without "L" and instead an upsidedown 7. Like META7GEARSO7ID4...upsidedown of course.
|
They just showed the new PS3 controller and it looks practically identical to the DualShock 2. Wireless, as well as wired. The best thing yet...
It has a sensor inside. You don't need a reciever at all and don't need to move the D-Pad or Analog as you can just move the controller and move in game, much like the Wii controller, but without a remote style. That doesn't mean you have to as the D-Pad and analog sticks are still there. Bluetooth and all that etc. |
Quote from GameSpot:
A demo trailer shows a crate, hopping around of its own accord. It breaks open and the PS3 controller is inside. He lifts the controller up, and the controller on the screen lifts up. With no external sensor required, he can move the controller in six degrees of movement. Also a picture of the Eight Days game I mentioned earlier. http://i.i.com.com/cnet.g2/images/20...551_screen.jpg |
LAUNCH DATE:
November 17, 2006. CHOICES: 20GB HDD - $499 60GB HDD - $599 2 Million consoles shipped at launch. Total of 6 million by March 31, 2007. |

...ahem. |
After reading some of the PS3's stuff, I no longer have any desire to play a 360 again, ever.

I seriously can't wait for November. 499 is about what I was expecting. 20G is good enough for me, as I really want it just for gaming stuff (and I want to put my own music into games damnit) ALso, it looks like we get the major selling point of the Wii controller, minus the wierd ass remote. Plus, it has normal controls so it doesn't have to be used. Slick. I need to pre-order this baby. |
That's awesome about PS3's controller, I've been really skeptical about Wii's contoller and all, and it seems PS3 has taken the good from it and retained the classic "controller" feel... I'm pretty much 98% positive I'm getting a Wii, but I'm still kinda interested in the PS3.

Just because the Nintendo fanboy in me likes debate >.> |
I'll get the PS3. Prob with the smaller drive because I'll want to upgrade it later anyway.

Making a WoW movie... dunno how I feel about that, lol.
World of Warcraft Movie Buzz MMORPG getting its due on the silver screen? by IGN FilmForce May 8, 2006 - World of Warcraft on the big screen? It could happen... and soon. IGN FilmForce has learned that Legendary Pictures, the production company behind Superman Returns and Batman Begins, may turn the massively-multiplayer online gaming hit into a feature film. The official announcement could come as early as Tuesday -- timed to take advantage of E3 buzz. Other flicks on Legendary's slate are Where the Wild Things Are, Paradise Lost, 10,000 B.C., M. Night's Lady in the Water and the next films in the rejuvenated Superman and Batman franchises. The World of Warcraft movie would likely be distributed by Warner Bros. under their multi-year distribution deal with the production company which is topped by Chris Lee (Jerry Maguire, The Mask of Zorro, Apt Pupil). Keep it on IGN FilmForce for the latest developments! |

I resized it because of the size but feel free to click for full image. |
Interesting. There's a button between Start and Select. I wonder if it's for the tilt? (The small button and light to indicate analog on is gone, so I"m guessing it's always on)
I wonder what the USB is for? Also, I wonder if the little lights on the top are suppose to correspond to what controller port the control is for. |
Yeah, pretty much. The 1-4 on the top is what controller port you're on and the USB port will most likely be for charging or just playing wired. The Playstation logo button is probably (enough to say it would be) a "home" button that takes you to the PS3 Network. It might even be able to turn on and off the console without getting up.
The controller is said to be lighter then the current PS2 controllers but it doesn't support the rumbling feature anymore. They said that it interferes with the tilting. Not to mention they were sued for using it in the PS2 so that's probably another reason they decided to move to the tilt action. |

All the PS3 info is amazingly sexy. Thank God for no boomerang controller.

Gonna be glued to the TV tomorrow when G4 starts their coverage.

Verant/Sony tried forever to make Everquest into a movie, but failed. I'm still on the fence about this, but it would be cool. |

Just watched the Sony conference, about 6mins in, they go round cities of the world, getting peoples opinions on PS3, when it get's to London, one of them is me! Sadly, thats the closest i'll ever get to E3.
|
PS3! |
An hour until Nintendos conference :love::love::love:
|
Gonna have to watch the Nintendo conference later, gotta go back to work. Can't wait for it!
Also, FUCK SONY. |
The Nintendo conference is starting any second and I'll do my best to do a quick play by play so you know what's going down if you can't watch it.
I would expect some information on the DS & DSLite along with information on some new games. Same with the Wii, probably even a new Mario, price and date and then some showing of some games. Right after the Nintendo conference is Microsofts where I wouldn't be surprised to hear about Halo 3 because of the release information being huge announcements from Sony and Nintendo. I'll do the same for that. Then E3 starts and you will be overwhelmed with information on pretty much every game. I'm hoping Rockstar deals out the next GTA here, as a side note. |
Started.
Miyamoto is using the Wii controller like a baton and conducting a computer animated orchestra behind him. |
They are doing a mix between Miyamoto conducting and one guy playing with the Wii controller sideways like a regular controller (looks oddly uncomfortable honestly) and another one using a two part controller as a sword.
You ever have that feeling where you watch someone embarassing themselves and you can't help but feel even more embarassed? |
Video like last year with kids playing drums, tennis, golf, play maestro, race cars, and just like I thought earlier, a new Mario.
There is a speaker in the controller too. |
They showed a new Zelda which including things like sword fighting, shooting arrows, and fishing. At the end of the video it said "2006".
|
So far they have announced that it will be less money then the 360 and in the 4th quarter.
|
"About the name. First, I want to thank those of you who wrote good things when we told you.
Both of you." |
Some Metroid, Dragonball, Disaster, Fire Emblem, Spongebob (I don't know), Mario, Gundam, Tony Hawk (I think), Red Steel, Rayman 4, Super Swing Golf, Sonic, Project H.A.M.M.E.R, FF Crystal Chronicals, Madden, Zelda Twilight Princess, and a few more I couldn't write down.
|
Zelda Twilight Princess on launch.
|
They are doing a world premiere of Twilight Princess for the Wii right now and showing how to do things. You'll hear the bow through the speaker and hear different things to tell you when you're ready to shoot.
Rumble feature in the controller too. |
Quote:
|
Ack, that Zelda is 2 different versions. One for GC and one for Wii
|
Metriod Prime 3: Corruption.
Super Mario Galaxy. |
Woo, Project HAMMER. SWING A HAMMER AND KILL EVERYTHING
|
and Excite Truck
|
You know, most of these games remind me of an EyeToy bundle.
|
And Hyper Sonic :love::love::love::love:
|
They have 27 different games at E3 itself.
|
I swear that Ubi Soft french guy was picked because he says Wiiley instead of really
|
Damn that Red Steel looks hot
|
They are showing footage of Red Steel which doesn't look too bad as a destruction game but it doesn't look that great. The character models are actually quite horrible but the destructable environments are nice.
|
Dual katana fight with the nunchuck controller!
|
They're going to be talking about the DS now.
|
Get Reggie back out here. He's the only person that makes this conference something that people want to listen to.

WTF. Sudoku annoucned. Isn't that on Brain Age as it is
|
Meh, just completed New SMB about an hour earlier. Gotta unlock everything frist.
|
STARFOX MOFOING DS and Diddy Kong.
FF3 looked damn good too. |
Diddy Kong Racing, Starfox DS, Wario, and FFIII are coming to the DS.
|
Zelda on DS too.
|
I'm actually beginning to look forward to Zelda PH more than the GC one now
|
Mario Vs DK: March of the Minis
Mario Hoops: 3-on-3 looks awesome too. |
Mario Hoops 3 on 3, Star Fox DS, New Super Mario Bros, Elite Beat Agents, Yoshi's Island 2, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Diddy Kong Racing, Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Big Brain Academy, Mario vs DK were shown.
They say there will be 100+ DS games by the end of the year. |
Here we go for the big stuff.
|
The Wii will have features that can be used when it's "off". Wii Connect24. This means it can constantly be connected and can do things like have people visit their village in Animal Crossing and leave things while the game is off.
|
Wii connect 24. Has a standby mode which means it can stay on with the power of a minature lightbulb. Can leave internet on permanatly and games will update whenever, friends will come on Animal Crossing etc.
Not huge, but interesting. |
Wii sports. Tennis, Golf and baseball in one package, launch title using the Wiimote :D
|
Also, Wii uses the Opera browsers.
|
Tennis: Toss up with the remote, smash it, then play yourself like a tennis reacket.
I need this now! |
They are doing a sweepstakes to have the first person use the controller.
This is pretty unexciting. :( |
Yes, 4-player doubles. Thats the stuff.
|
I turned it off. I wasn't too terribly excited by the info.
|
Reggie is the best thing to happen to Nintendo. He is able to BS everything they give him and make it sound interesting.
|
Wow. They didn't announce anything.
That was a HUGE disappointment. |
I knew it would be nothing major. The thing about Wii is they want people to play it. Last year was the year for kicking ass, this year is just a continuation of the same thing.
|
Well, overall, it was a big let down. No date or price announced. The big things were the speaker in the controller and the WiiConnect24. A couple of games announced but nothing surprising.
If Microsoft announces Halo 3 then Nintendo will, by far, be the worst conference of the show. |
Quote:
*hugs his DS* I'm a LOT more excited about the future of DS than with Wii though, but Wii will probably be my main home console. |
Quote:
|
I don't understand that though, because it's the games that will push the console. Thats what they've said and I guess they're hoping that they will get a lot of write-ups once the people play the games.
Did they say Mario is playable on the floor? I wanna hear how that works.... |
YOSHI'S ISLAND 2 ;H;SKDGH
YI is like the best platformer ever. (I've yet to play New SMB so don't hold that against me  ) |
No they didn't say anything about Mario.
The thing is that Nintendo isn't pushing information about their console, they are pushing information about their games. This is good, but for another time and for the floor. If they have no interest in pushing the console then they should stop making them and focus completely on their games and handhelds. We have no price, no date, and some rather disappointing showings from their games. |
Quote:
Other than the music is horribly shit anyway. |
Quote:
They can't run around going "OMG TEH GIGAHURTZ" because they're not in for that. But their games on their system is they only thing they can push. You're right about lack of price or date though, that was kinda stupid. |
I don't care about the specifications of the system, I wanted a price and date. The only thing we got is that it will be cheaper and at the end of the year. They pretty much just confirmed things that we have been pretty sure of all along.
Well Microsoft is in an hour so that's something to look forward to. |
Is there a chance they'll release price/date info before E3 is over? Or is that it for their conference
|
That's it. All they have is the show floor where they will probably talk about a couple of the games but that's about it.
I'm also disappointed there was no information on the online service. |
Quote:
Why you looking forward to Microsoft DS? I think it will be a one-trick pony Halo 3 fest, a Live hand-job and little else. Although I'm hopeful, the choice between PS3 and 360 is a tough one at the moment so anything to make me choose quicker would be great. The only thing I can see Microsoft even possibly announcing is some developer they've got an exclusive with. I woujldn't flinch or be shocked if it's a GTA exclusive. |
Quote:
|
It is. It's using Opera.
I'm interested in every conference. I'm sure it will be the same thing about how they have sold a ton of consoles and the Xbox was the better of last generation etc etc and then they'll show a bunch of stuff about games but I'm still interested to see what they have to offer. |
Thanks for the play by play, gents. Rep for you both.
