Edge/Foley match tonight on RAW. *Possible spoilers ahead*
With the Edge/Foley hardcore rematch being the main event for tonight's RAW, I'm thinking something big will happen. No doubt, they will try to outperform their WM 22 match and will have a great match. ECW may interfere. However, the biggest rumor currently circulating is this:
*FOLEY HEEL TURN*. Current rumors are saying that WWE pretty much think Foley's current face routine is played out and that a heel turn would help. I, for one, think this is exactly what Foley has been needing. He's been a comical face too long and hasn't played the serious heel since 1998. I'm also thinking the way Foley will turn is by joining ECW. Cactus Jack in ECW=Greatness! |
1) Source?
2) Interesting |
Meltzer did report it today.

Here's another spoiler from PWI about Raw that I don't want to waste a new thread on(highlight)
by Dave Scherer @ 5:56:00 PM on 5/8/2006 I am not sure where it will be used, but I have heard from people at Raw that there is a cage there and it will be used on tonight's show. |
Cool I guess
|
Okay...First off, what would really be a point of a Foley Heel Turn, He maybe makes 8 Apperances a year in WWE at most...and Turning him heel against, The Second best heel, if not the best one on Raw (All depending on your point of view on HHH/Edge)
Kinda doesn't make sense to me... And I hardly doubt this match will be, any better then the one at Mania...That match was insanely great in my mind, and well this is a free show and not a ppv, so I don't expect it to be on the same field as there match 2 months ago. |
Well Foley has apparently pitched a big idea to McMahon about the direction of the his character, so that would suggest a heel turn
|
Holy shit!
HUGE Spoilers from PWInsider. Highlight. I just got word from a good source backstage at Raw that Mick Foley's Hardcore match with Edge will turn into a Three Way Dance and will involve Tommy Dreamer. My guess is that it will be the start of the heel turn for Foley that Mike and I talked about on the hotline today. http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=17919&p=1 |
Why though... that makes no sense...
|
Wait threeway with him in the match, or threeway with another wrestler and he helps Foley?
|
If Foley joins ECW it'd make complete sense. It will be a fresh character for ECW and Heyman to mold into something even greater than Foley already is.
|
I know it'd make sense.. I just wanna know where TD comes into the picture...
|
That was actually to your first response, you posted as I was typing...
|
Oh... But still I wanna know where TD falls in all this? It would make zero sense if he was in the match. But who else would fit into the match? DAMN YOU WWE!
|
Spoiler, highlight to read
DREAMER! DREAMER! DREAMER! |

It's obviously to build up ECW. Think I said ECW enough in this post? ECW! |
I'm actully interested for Raw tonight. We have this whole Foley/Edge thing going on with the twists and turns, The aftermath of what's gonna happen to Triple H after walking out of the match last week, The IC fourway match, more DX teases, more ECW teases. Oh boy it'll be a good one...hopefully.
|
Yeah I'm looking forward to it as well. First time in a while. I also don't have to work tonight so I finally get to be home for the first hour.
|
Damn I haven't been this excited for Raw in a damn long time.
|
Highlight to read:
I would imagine that Dreamer gets involved somehow thanks to Styles or Paul E. tonight. |
If you want to know what happend in that Triple Threat its on wwe.com

***SPOILERS IN COMMENTS***
Wow, I look forward to the explanation to see what route Foley chose. He might play on that one angle where he turned all anti-hardcore in ECW cuz the fans "didn't appreciate him" or something like that, or maybe he'll say that he was the original innovator of violence, and Dreamer took his credit. I dunno, but I thought it was pretty interesting. Foley joining ECW would have made the most sense, so we'll see where this goes. Woulda been more dastardly if Dreamer had been on TV for a while, rather than brought in to be swerved. |
Or this could just be for Dreamer Vs Foley at one night stand
|
So much for ECW being the "heels."
|
My guess is that Foley says hardcore wrestling made him a hospital patient, and sports entertainment (remember he used Socko) made him a millionaire. Maybe this sets up Sports Entertainment Mick Foley Vs. The Lord of the Hardcores Terry Funk at One Night Stand.
|
Commercial mick foley?
How is that a heel turn though? |

With the roster they are going to have there's a few guys who would be the heels: The FBI Mike Awesome (if he signs) Justin Credible Lance Storm Foley |
What are you trying to say?

And Vince will ignore them and make all of ECW heel, anyway. |
The dead crowd response, especially for Dreamer made me uneasy. Hopefully it was just a retarded crowd.
After all, they couldn't figure out how to chant "ECW" instead of "RVD". |

Everyone was assuming ECW was going to be a heel promotion and all, but Foley teaming up with Edge pretty much MAKES him a heel. If there was any doubt in Foley beating on Dreamer, it is dispelled by him kissing Lita's hand (He's no longer allowed to blade in the ring, BTW) and shaking Edge's. The only real question is: Does he remain an effective heel? People love Foley. I can't imagine him getting a lot of heel heat. |

It was California, about as West Coast as you get...ECW was East and North-east based. It will be fine in a couple of weeks.
|
^ ^ I really should have read PWInsider. Oh well, at least it confirmed it.
|
" There was no sympathy for Dreamer and confusion/rip off feeling as to why Foley & Edge worked together."
Anyone else NOT surprised? |
The crowd seemed pretty dead all night to be honest. :|
|
Yeah... WWE should think about their show dates before next year's ONS and try to get places where people will care.

Edge and Foley vs Tommy and Funk

The crowd was pretty much retarded. Vince should really stop marketing to 8 year olds. :nono:
|
Taz and Van Dam were the only guys the fans would have let Foley turn heel on from ECW at this point. Dreamer would have done it in an ECW city, just not anywhere else because no one but ECW fans give a shit about Dreamer.
|
Foley pretty much did as was thought. Heel turn, just opposite of what most people were thinking.
A normal heel turn entails a clearly defined face turning against what is thought to be "right". In this case, they took Tommy Dreamer[the "face" of ECW] and used the team of Foley/Edge to get Foley's "heel turn" over. Surprize. People didn't care about Dreamer getting his ass kicked. Most fans of ECW watched 99% of the time to see that happen anyway, no big deal. The only logical sense this made[involving Dreamer] was to turn Foley simply off of attacking Dreamer. Didn't seem to work though, as the crowd Monday seemed to cheer Foley anyway. I'm interested to see how they'll try to get Foley over as a heel in the weeks to come. |

1. It was unexpected. Surprising us in wrestling is often a bad thing. Wrestling is very formulaic, and not only did they do it in a way that was a surprise, but in a way that I found to be very anticlimactic. 2. Yes, anticlimactic. I'm sitting here wondering what the point of all that was. I mean, I know it was to promote ECW and turn someone heel, but what else? Most everything in wrestling has a flow, and while sometimes turns don't make sense, they usually have some sort of flow to them in the process. 3. People want to cheer Foley. This has been the case like, forever. 4. I'm betting the people who CARE about ECW wanted him to side with it. |
First, it was a bad place to do the turn. The arena was full of marks/casual fans and while I usually like them (hence the username), it's a bad place to do a turn that requires a lot of knowledge beforehand.
That aside, I think it could work. If, like some people say, Mick Foley turned on Tommy Dreamer because he's actually FOR sports entertainment (made him rich, extended his career) then that makes him a heel to ECW fans. So when ECW starts, they'll have a natural heel. Because of his history, it's really hard to get Mick Foley booed by smark fans. However, I agree with the WWE that Foley's face character is stale (whether it's funny Foley or "extreme" Cactus Jack, it's still stale). So the only way to make him a heel is to have Foley side with "sports entertainment." I think a great way to further the turn (though they probably won't do it), is to book Foley in a match at ONS2. But Foley insists that he's not going to destroy his body for these internet nerds, and refuses to use weapons during the match. He should also pull out a cute Mr. Socko just to mess with the crowd. That way, he doesn't give a crowd any reason to mark out for him, and cements his status as a heel. |

Edge isn't over enough as a heel to turn Foley just by having Foley side with him. So I went from loving Foley to just not caring any more. It wasn't something that made me think Foley's a dick. Next week, he should cut a nasty promo on the fans. I think that at a minimum should at least make it feel a little more realistic. |
