It's official: ECW is a brand, gets 10PM Tuesday timeslot

IT'd be better if the page was up on Sci.Fi.com.
|
YES! GOOD FUCKING TIMESLOT!
|
Word.
|
Shame its gonna be filmed in a Smackdown building with fans who came to see Smackdown.
The idea wouldn't be that bad down the line but it's horrible to start with. WWE fans don't know the ECW guys of old and the ones they do know, WWE have shit all over in the last 3 years. |

Also, Innovator, this isn't the SVT Cobra's Myspace thread...
|
How dare he disgrace the good name of Vanilla Ice in his Myspace...
EDIT: Post # 9.......666! |
... see, and even though i'm excited... all i can think is negative.
1) RVD no longer on my Monday Nights. Under-exposure. 2) Funk on the fucking roster. Seriously, this guy makes Flair look like Spanky. |
It's good that they got a tv deal, no matter where it is. It might not be the best, but I'm looking foward to being able to check it out.
|
I think I'm going to have a wrestling overload.
Monday - Raw Tuesday - ECW Wednesday - 24/7 day Thursday - Impact Friday - Smackdown Saturday - 24/7 again Sunday - Some ppv. With SD, Raw, ECW, AND TNA, there should be a PPV almost every week now? |
Also must give credit to WWE. If they have this planned out like i think they do,
then Raw, Smackdown, and ECW will have a PPV Once Every 3-4 Months that isn't brand merged. |
If you get into MMA, you get PPVs on Saturday
|
ANy idea what the plans would be for Canada and so forth?
|
How are they going to do this? Are they going to show ECW on a tape delay that night or film it for the NEXT week?
|
That is an awesome timeslot.
|
think Tazz will actually wrestle?
|
I'd mark out if they did it at a seperate Arena, and did it live.

a one hour timeslot? or two?
|
One hour, as the first article states.
|
Is one night stand going to become a Smackdown and Raw VS ECW tournament every year then? A bit like invasion ?
|
I don't know about that, but WWE did add an extra PPV date in December, so it could be an ECW PPV.
|
lol, that is what I get for only clicking one link.

Wrestling on Sci-Fi?
Maybe ET will be a Main Eventer. |

This is gonna be very awesome ECW back on TV.I went to the WWE chat rooms and alot of SD fans are pissing and moaning about it.
|
I wouldn't get too excited. ECW in a larger wwe ring, real ropes for ropes, no small arena feel. It'll be smackdown hardcore if anything.
|
Sci-Fi has been pretty good lately. They've shown at least one of the Resident Evil movies recently.
But why can't it be a week earlier, when I'm going to be going to the Smack Down taping in Wheeling? Hmm...maybe they'll announce it there or something. |

As ECW won't cut it on network TV, I have to say Smackdown's not going anywhere. |

Extreme Championship Wrestling is back in the ring and on Sci Fi Channel. World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. officially launched ECW as a brand extension to its RAW and SmackDown franchises. And Sci Fi announced that it will start airing one-hour episodes of a new ECW live show, set to debut June 13 at 10 p.m. (EST). WWE originally acquired the ECW assets in 2003. It has released three ECW DVDs, produced an ECW pay-per-view event in June 2005 and scheduled another ECW PPV event for June 11. WWE said it will produce, market and promote a full line of ECW products, including television programs, PPV events, live events and licensed consumer goods. “After keeping the ECW concept alive and creating an enormous cult-like following for all things ECW from DVDs to PPV [events] to books, we feel that now the time is right to officially launch ECW as its own stand-alone franchise," WWE chairman Vince McMahon said in a prepared statement. |
:y: Is it confirmed Paul Heyman is running it? (I read no posts in this thread)

Notice the big-bolded words. Live? After the SD! taping? What gives? |
I guess they won't have time to reshoot shit anymore.
|
It would kinda suck to have it aired after SD. When the WWE is in the west or in non-ECW areas, the crowd heat will be next to none. I also doubt they will be allowed to really cut loose as that could show up the SD roster and I know Vince doesn't want that to happen.
|
Why does everyone assume that because it's live after the SD tapings that the crowds will be dead? At first, maybe, but it's not like the fans will see these guys wrestle and then just never watch again. After they've been on the air a few weeks and the audience gets introduced to them, there's no reason to think they won't start to embrace these guys like they have their favorite RAW and SD guys.

Not always, but once in a while something new catches on. I find it hard to believe that the markish SD crowd will find nothing worth watching about ECW. All I'm saying is that Paul and Tommy are smart enough to build on that. Obviously, the feel is going to be totally different (at least until the ECW freaks start turning up at the SD tapings), but it's not like wrestling fans have never gotten behind something that went against the status quo.
|
Maybe it wont be after SD! at all. I'm sure that Paul E and Tommy will handle 95% of the writing and booking... so I'm sure (as a brand extention) they can handle having it at a "house" arena like the Hammerstein or "the old bingo hall" even.
|
Btw, I'm excited about ECW TV being live. It'll definitely help that "anything can happen" vibe.
|
could you imagine a live ECW show on tuesday nights with a live-and-loud-as-hell pro-ECW new york crowd at the hammerstein? gives me fucking goosebumbs just thinking about it.

I'm just not sure the circles overlap that much, is all. I think ECW almost always marketed to another crowd. My only hope is that folks will follow along in the ECW chants like good little sheep, and watch it to be cool. |
:y:
If this tapes with SmackDown! on the 13th, it's going to be in Jersey. Not a bad place to start. |
i will read this thing when i'm on coke
|
The supershow in Philly in early July will be huge! But, I am still worried by the non-ECW areas in the country. They tend to not react well to new things.
|
If they dont shell out the fucking money to Metallica or Motorhead so help me Sabin

Didn't Harry Slash do a Walk re-do? And I think they used Motorhead's version of Enter Sandman...
Those versions are probably a lot cheaper than the real deals. |
I want this to be good. Really really good. But I'm so afraid.
|
I'm keeping an open mind, and am willing to see how it plays out before i judge it to severly. I'm hoping it will be good and a nice alternative to Raw and Smackdown.

Oh sure, we love Metallica's version, but what about the cover Die Krupps put out? I like that one more than Metallica, because Die Krupps has a deeper voice, giving it a somewhat more creepiness to it.

MIKE AWESOME
|
I still don't understand why they just don't use the small New York arena's instead, and keep velocity also.
Surely the production values of an authentic ECW show aint going to cost that much are they? |
Is there enough depth in the roster to have three reasonable brands, considering the recent injuries and such? I really hope they don't have guys like Van Dam pull double duty with ECW and RAW.
|
I would have laughed so much if they had the ECW before smackdown tapings. I could see the ECW fans turning up, watching, then leaving the arena empty fo SD.
|
I hope they bring back bWo.

I also kind of smirked, thinking of them adding ECW to those "Supershows." |
I still am worried about for example, Balls Mahoney or The Sandman coming out to a half empty arena and no heat in Bakersfield California or like Oklahoma City but, I guess I will have to give it a chance.
|
ECW on... SciFi? Don't tell me my new ECW is going to be riddled with phasers.

So with the launch of the re-established brand right around the corner, will former ECW head Paul Heyman have a role? “Absolutely,” exclaimed McMahon. “But at the end of the day, Mr. McMahon is in charge.”
and there folks, is the knife that Paul E. gets to have twisted into his gut. |

Oh, and Tommy Dreamer's a Cylon. |
They should bring in Frankie Kazarian. That's all the sci-fi references rolled into one. Plus he is awesome.
