Just John 06-07-2006 02:30 PM

Earthquake always kinda had one of those faces that looked like they would be a real nice guy outside of the ring (like the big show). Rest in peace big fella, you will be missed.

Corkscrewed 06-07-2006 02:31 PM

Dammit.

I was really pulling for him. Earthquake was one of the first characters I fell in love with (heck, one of the first characters I remember period), and John Tenta was definitely a good man.

Rest in peace, Earthquake. :'(

RP 06-07-2006 02:35 PM

I'm not sure i can forgive him for killing Hulkamania, but R.I.P anyhow.

Tornado 06-07-2006 02:38 PM

R.I.P, he fought a noble battle, shame it got the best of him.

RIP Quake. Now heaven can have a natural disaster.

....wait a minute, that sounds awful. :nono:

RP 06-07-2006 03:00 PM

He would have been a mainstay in the WWE for years if they just named him Poop.

He was one of the first guys I ever really hated (in a good way) when I was a kid.

Loose Cannon 06-07-2006 05:04 PM

Rammsteinmad 06-07-2006 07:03 PM

R.I.P.

I was never really a fan of his, but it's always sad when a wrestler passes away.

Eunos 06-07-2006 07:04 PM

This is very sad indeed.

I remember hearing the news about him battling for his life and it seemed he was over coming it.

Rest in Peace Tenta :(

Flair Wooo 06-07-2006 07:05 PM

Perhaps the best big-man ever to hit the ring. R.I.P

Y2Jeremy 06-07-2006 08:10 PM

RIP to Earthquake. He was struggling for a while and according to his last update, he only had a 10% chance of living. So again, RIP

Ben Rodrigues 06-07-2006 08:20 PM

Watch the full Bret Hart Hall of Fame speech - he's got a funny story about Earthquake.

Times like this - to quote Paul Bearer - "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened".

Chico 06-07-2006 09:52 PM

Damn. I guess it was gonna happen sooner or later, but it's still sad to hear about his death.

RIP 'Quake. :wavesad:

If he was only 42yrs old, that means he was only 25 when he debuted in the WWF. He looked a lot older, probably due to the baldness.

Anyways, he wasn't an incredible wrestler, but he was a credible wrestler, which is just as important. He was one of the more agile big men in the game, and was part of some memorable moments. More so than that, away from wrestling, he seemed a genuine and friendly guy to his fans, and fought a brave battle, keeping positive until near the end. The guy deserved better. At least now his pain is over.

Rest In Peace.

Ben Rodrigues 06-07-2006 10:04 PM

And he killed Hulkamania.

AJHayes 06-07-2006 10:46 PM

Too bad.. RIP

At least he's not suffering

The Naitch 06-07-2006 11:05 PM

damn i remember watching wrestling back then (I wasnt a fan at all back then, I was like 10, but I was watching it back then and Dibease started challenging some fat fuck in the audience. It so happened to be John Tenta)

Skippord 06-08-2006 01:04 AM

I thought he had beaten it

RIP

BlackDawn2024 06-08-2006 01:14 AM

Damn. I thought for sure he'd beat it.

R.I.P. Quake.

:'(

Gone Mad 06-08-2006 02:14 AM

RIP Tenta

Def. one of those guys you remembered when you started to watch wrestling in the 80s and know you could never forget. I remember him mostly from The Natural Disasters and for being one of the best big men in the biz, along with being one of the most genuine superstars in and out of the ring.

This is just sad, after reading on his updates posted on here over the year and for how young he was. He was a fighter to the end, joking around but still determined to beat the cancer when most people would do otherwise. Condolences to his family, friends, and the people who knew him at all.

RIP Quake, you will be missed.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-08-2006 02:41 AM

Blue Demon 06-08-2006 06:36 AM

The Natural Disasters was one of my favourite teams as a kid, definately because of 'Quake.

RIP :(

Disturbed316 06-08-2006 03:56 PM

Damn, like LC said, we knew it was coming but still a huge shock. Say this on Wrestlecrap and thought I'd post it:

I don't even know quite where to begin, so let me just start by saying this: John Tenta was a man I am proud to have called my friend. While we weren't best friends, we had talked several times over the past few years, and I considered him a true friend. I know he felt the same way about me. When we talked, it was always a fun time, and I was always ecstatic when I saw the caller ID and knew it was him.

Over the last year or so, as John was battling cancer, we didn't talk wrestling all that much. We were both more interested in talking about our families. John was so proud of his family, and we'd talk about his at length. He'd talk about how he was going to just be spending time with them, and I remember one night in particular where he asked that I didn't call, because he just wanted to spend time with them that night. He'd talk about Josephine, his wife, his sons Johnny and Jeff and his daughter Joanna. He was so proud of them all, and we would talk about them at length. And he never failed to ask about my family as well. He was that kind of guy.

My heart obviously broke when I heard the news that he had passed away. I sobbed not only because I personally had lost a friend, but because a family had just lost its father and husband. And because the world had lost a true class act, a man amongst men.

There is so much I could write about John...about how he would talk to us when no one else would. About how, when Merle passed away, he was right there for me. About how he called me from Japan when he had written the foreword to my book and read it over the phone to me, with me being speechless about how great it was and him saying, "Do you think that's ok?" About how he would make me laugh with his stories, and make me think about my own life and mortality when we talked of his struggles with cancer.

I would write about these things, but right now, I just can't. I am too devastated.

John, I will miss you dearly.

Your friend,

Randy Baer

RIP :(

The Natural Disasters remain to this day one of my favorite tag teams of all time. Sounds like he was a genuine nice guy too. Condolences go out to his family and friends

Beautiful. :y:

The world needs more people like Tenta, and yet those seem to be the guys who leave us too soon. Again, rest in peace, John Tenta.
