The following statement was just posted on WWE.com:

WWE elected today to end its contractual relationship with Zach Gowen after Zach met with EVP of Talent Relations Jim Ross earlier today. “Zach is only 20 years of age and I would be very surprised if we don’t see him in a WWE ring again some day," Ross said. "We all have great respect for Zach’s passion and wish him nothing but success.”

Of coures he will be back.

I was wondering what happened to him.

IMO he was never going to be a big success, he was good to start with because he is different.

He was never likely to be any more than a bad circus act, props to the guy for his bravery in the face of adversity & all that but unfortunately the kind of novelty he brought can only last so long

I may disagree with you on many points, but I can't deny, you've got style.

Yeah, because you can sue for being released from a company. WWE may be clueless when it comes to booking and writing, but they're not stupid when it comes to these things.

It's about time the WWE got sued again, I mean c'mon it's been 2 years without a lawsuit. The best TV is when they are getting sued.

And for what reason can he sue? they didn't discriminate, they release lots of people.

If Sean O' Haire or Paul London or Ultimo Dragon had those high profile matches and exposure he had, I'm sure they'd be in a much better spot than they are now.

Not suprised in the least. Before Zach even got signed, he thought he was the best thing in wrestling. Being a one legged 19 year old who got a WWE contract after trainng for a year certainly didn't shrink his ego. His ego was easily his biggest handicap, not his leg. I'm going to an indie show on Sunday, and I'm sure he'll be there, bitching about how unfairly he was treated.

Its not everyday that a person gets a WWE contract; even a short term one. Doing it when you are that young by itself is an accomplisment, let alone doing it for a while with only one leg.

Sure his novelty as a handicapped wrestler may have been one of his major drawing points (if any) but he was still able to hang in there for a while, which is more than any of us can claim.

He could sue, but the fact is that he didn't draw, and they had him in the main event for about a month straight.

'Course, most people here haven't tried to get into the biz...Apples and cinder blocks.

Gowen is impressive for who he is, he's a very impressive young man who over came a lot of odds. However, just because he can do a few spots, doesn't mean he is a great worker. TNA was able to cover this up due to the size of their rings, he just doesn't look realistic in the WWE. He was brought in for ratings, he had to know that. He didn't garner the ratings, his attitude was supposedly shitty, he isn't that great of an in ring worker, So in my opinion, congrats to him for living his dream for a few matches, but he shouldn't be involved with the company.

And it's impressive for anyone with 1 leg to be that mobile...But he wasn't that great a wrestler. The continuing entertainment value was pretty low beyond the novelty of how impressive the kid is.

Plus, the Irish Whip thing looked pretty dumb.

I think the WWE did the right thing. Gowen is an amazing story and deserves to return to the WWE some time in the future. He's only 20 ****ing years old. If were to ever come back he'll need to improve his promo ability cause he sucks ass in that category.

What the hell? He comes into the WWE, puts over Vince, goes over Hardy, gets beaten up by Lesnar, and leaves? :-\

It won't hold any merit of course, however if Gowen is half as bad as reports said then of course he'll try it.

Eh... he would have gotten boring like the hardcore title, so I guess it's the best. If his attitude was indeed selfish, then I don't feel as sympathetic.

True........but in the same vein, most of those same people are realistic in realizing that they couldn't even if they tried. We both know how tough the training is and how hard that kind of life is. We couldn't cut it, let alone hack it.

I understand that Zach isn't a phenom, not by any stretch of the imagination. And just because he is handicapped doesn't mean his ego isn't. He is just as prone to back stage melodrama like the rest of them. But business is business and if he can't cut it - goodbye.......and no hard feelings. What was expected of him is a little unrealistic. I mean, getting put over by Matt Hardy? :wtf:

All I am saying is that its an impressive accomplishment for a guy like that to make it for a little while - especially since most of us non-handicapped people couldn't if we tried.

I'm 5'9", either 144.25 lbs., or I may have even dropped back to my previous 136 weight, judging by the way my pants fit...and I don't have a single day's worth of athletic experience...

Bottom line is that with enough effort, almost anything is possible. If everyone sat around saying, "Oh, even if I tried, I couldn't make it," what would we have?

I'm not surprised to see Zach leave. His signing seemed like a publicity stunt to me - if you hire a guy with only one leg, the mainstream media is sure to notice. I was like :eek: when i saw his first WWE match, but his act grew old very quickly. And he had his own T-shirt made as well.

However, it would have been interesting to see him enter in the Royal Rumble. The rules state that to be eliminated, you have to go over the top rope, and BOTH feet must touch the floor. Technically he couldn't have been eliminated...

Who else besides Big Show would job to a one-legged kid? It's more damaging to your credibility than jobbing cleanly to a woman.

Actually, he comes to the ring with his prosthetic on. So, technically, he already has one foot on the floor.

He could NOT use it for this match, but either way, he could argue that it's just...well, whatever the **** the leg is made out of and NOT his foot. And actually, if he leaves it outside the ring, then it never went in, and therefore could never be thrown over the top rope.

More on Gowens release

WWE and Zach Gowen parted ways last week. The general feeling in the back was that Gowen was a headache to deal with. Gowen failed to bring in the mainstream attention that WWE was expecting.

Gowen also came off as "immature" to everyone backstage. He often complained about wrestlers working too stiff with him and he had bad weight lifting habits which upset Vince McMahon. He also apparently acted spoiled around the other wrestlers.

That last article spelled out what I was going to point out. That he was another WWE attempt at getting mainstream attention.

Since I think we should be fair here, though, I will say, to Zach's defense, they didn't use him right.

For one thing, they put him on SMACKDOWN, the WWE brand that is known for putting on longer matches as the norm, and that seemed to be Zach's weakness. He can't work the longer matches as much as Angle, Lesner, or Taker could. I thought they should've put him on RAW, as RAW seems to get by more by people having good spots, and they seem to be able to get away with shorter matches (although you can see some longer matches on RAW periodically, but not as often as you'll see a SMACKDOWN match be). I would've thought that, if Gowen went to RAW, his "novelty act" could be implimented better, and he would've been better off.

As far as his attitude goes, doesn't some other certain RAW star who thinks that he has a big ego and believes he should be at the top just because he screws the boss' daughter still HAVE a job there? Yeah, though I won't name any names *cough*Triple H*cough*.

Hmm, is it too much to ask that they release Steiner and the Dudley Boyz, too?

Unless that woman was someone like Shaniqua. THEN you'd have a reason to lose. :lol:
