Surrounded by PS3 hate

Wow. Its crazy how just about everywhere you look everyone LOVES the Wii. I'm also amazed at how many people are not showing the PS3 any love. Its pretty funny actually, how people are judging a system on a mediocre launch which is pretty much a fair argument because the launch only had one must have game.

But let's not act like this hasn't happened before. We can look back at the N64 and say that a system doesn't need a ton of games to do well at launch, just the right ones. The N64 launch was a success, the system was not. So immediately all of the people that say the PS3 is failing can take a walk, its too early to tell.

What I find absolutely fascinating is people saying that the system is inferior to the Wii, the 360 or both. My question is, how would you know? Accept the fact that very very few of us actually have a PS3, so none of us would really know. Playing it in a store for 5 minutes doesn't count. Its like when you get your license, someone in the car with you for 5 minutes doesn't determine your quality as a driver, only over time is that established. Its not particularly fair to judge a system based on whatever demo game is running at your Best Buy, CC, Target etc.

And that's really all we should be doing. Sure, bash Sony for not being sensitive to the hardcore gamer and for the short supply, but enough complaining about how bad a piece of equipment that most of us don't own is. And enough about the price, we know how much it costs and none of us like it. And it isn't one the reasons the system gets a lot of heat, let's face it, that's the MAIN reason the sytem gets heat. But let's not get all GeArS Of WaR ROOlz LOLZ in here, especially when comparing to something most of us can't experiance first hand.

Thank You
Discuss.

I don't love the Wii. I think it is mildly entertaining, but has no 'staying' power, if that makes sense.

Boomer 12-22-2006 02:40 PM

I think most people are just upset because they can't afford the price tag. Me included.

D Mac 12-22-2006 02:50 PM

I love the 360

G 12-22-2006 03:32 PM

it's because you're black, stop kidding yourself

G 12-22-2006 03:33 PM

also

GeArS Of WaR ROOlz LOLZ

Fignuts 12-22-2006 03:43 PM

It does though.

But he's right about it being way too early to pass any judgements.

DS 12-22-2006 03:45 PM

I would say that none of the consoles had a good launch this time. They all had shortages and problems. The thing with the Wii is that it was a cheaper price tag and was easier for families to get into. The 360 had nothing at launch and really only coming into itself starting at mid-2006. People calling the PS3 a failure because of it's first batch of games and shortages are just sounding ridiculous. They are all good consoles.

Silent 12-22-2006 03:50 PM

Who is calling the PS3 a failure? The launch and lack of systems is a joke, but I don't know anyone who is saying the PS3 will fail, they have way too many people who will buy it just because it says Playstation.

G 12-22-2006 04:03 PM

he probably visited the gamefaqs 360 board.

anyways, the reason why i chose a 360 intead of a ps3 is
1)live is so awesome in it's awesomeness
2)the fact that the price is so jacked because of the built in blue ray and forcing them to go blue ray dvd. if it was expandable like the 360's hd-dvd, then yeah, i might be more interested

and also i was just fell out of desire to play my ps2 for the past 2 years or so, and thought i would give xbox a go

I find the Wii to be ok, but I have no intention of buying one. As for the PS3, it's had such a terrible launch, honest to god I didn't even know it was out yet. No one I know has one, and no one seems to be in a rush to get one. The 360 is fun, but it only has like 2 or 3 games that I like. Overall, I think this is the generation of gaming where I get off. Maybe in a year or so I might pick up whichever one has proven to be the best, but in general, gaming is becoming dull and the story modes of most of these new great graffic games are unbareable. The only reason I remotely want a 360 is for Perect Dark and Dead or Alive (both fighting and volleyball).

Funky Fly 12-22-2006 04:48 PM

Faulty units, problems with backward compatibility, ridiculous price, mass shortages (on top of faulty units? damn), mediocre launch line up.

Take your pick as to why it's not doing as well as it should.

from what i understand, it's only chicks in the volleyball game.

Boomer 12-22-2006 05:35 PM

I wasn't very keen on the 360 until recently, and it really is impressing me. It just needs a library to rival Sony. I have a PS2 so I have a good bit of that library anyway, and I like Nintendo for their handhelds, not their consoles.

And for why people are down on it.

Anyway, the electronics market was down as a whole last year, so if there's "hate" for the PS3, there's a good chance it's because Sony was fucking stupid to release an expensive system when the electronics market is so slow.

FakeLaser 12-22-2006 06:23 PM

I love my Wii. It's cheap, it's innovative, and most importantly it's a lot of fun. I haven't played games in like 8 years because I was bored by them and Wii has gotten me interested in gaming again.

I wasn't ever going to buy another system again. Playstation 3 and 360 are basically just more of the same. The graphics are better, wow. There was nothing to draw me back in. The Wii is going in the right direction by being so innovative and affordable.

So what? The first DoA Vollyball game was only chicks and the game fucking rocked. It's probably one of the best games to play while you're high or drunk. You should play it some time.

This is why I might buy a Wii.
Kane Knight might laugh you off because you said innovative, I think he thinks it's laughable because other systems have the option of having floor mats or racing steering wheels... It's got to be why he 'ed at you, but he's as wrong as he is right. Those were for specific games. I do not know of another gaming system that makes interactivity mandatory for it's game play.

Anyway you are dead on about these other systems simply having better graphics. Big deal. In fact I'll take the old graphics with their simply game play over these new complex game play and their better graphics anyday. RBI baseball for example. Great fun, easy to figure out. Baseball"2k7" or whatever they are now, involves complex controlling that dissuades your buddies from playing with you because of their complexity. You end up playing games alone more nowadays. The Wii is going to change that, bring it back to interplay with buddies, things will be easier for a newbie to get into. This is the future, making things user friendly. (just gotta make a better strap or something)

DS 12-26-2006 11:17 PM

Sony's EyeToy was mandatory interactivity but the problem was that there wasn't really anything good for it.

But I believe the reason he was laughing was that it's not really innovative because it's been done way before. The controllers aren't much different from the old gun controllers that they had for the original NES with Duck Hunt.

I like what you said about the complexity of the games. I never really thought so much about how the Wii's simple games allow for everyone to really get on the same skill level pretty quickly. While it feels nice to be able to "interact" with the game, it would feel much better to do so and have it look next generation.

My only big problem with it right now is the lack on online gameplay.

That was never planned. That pic was fan made. No need for it anyway as your actualy GC controller will work on some Wii games...

Yeah, and some games are being specifically designed for the GCN controller.

Really? I haven't heard of anything like that. So far from what I've it's just been ports that were usable with the GC controller...

Kane Knight 12-28-2006 08:20 AM

The new SSB was announced as being designed for it.

I think Smash Bros fanboys would commit seppuku (They're all Otaku, right?) if they took away the beloved control scheme.

YOUR Hero 12-28-2006 10:30 AM

I mean in the sense that all the games require interactivity.

G 12-28-2006 10:33 AM

a lot more than just pointing a gun and shooting

G 12-28-2006 10:34 AM

btw hero, the Wii is fucking awesome. my wife isn't all that into video games, but after playing the Wii she is begging me to buy her a controller. great times

  1. Oddly enough, my answer doesn't change, wonder why?
  2. But all the games don't require it.
