Guitar Hero 2
Oh come now, I can't be the only one playing it. Got it for Christmas
Having never played the original it took me a little while to get the hang of it but yesterday I blitzed easy, 90%+ on every song first try (don't think I five starred all of them though, will have to check). Tried the first few on medium, not bad but will take practice. I spent countless tries trying to 100% Shout at the Devil on easy but I kept fucking up  Oh, and bought two of the bonus songs. Jordan is freakin insane, even on medium, and will take months if not years for me to get. Thunderhorse, however...:naughty:  Oh, forgot, fave tracks so far John The Fisherman Jessica Madhouse Them Bones Woman (medium or above) Message In A Bottle (") Who Was In My Room Last Night Trippin on a Hole In A Paper Heart Rock This Town |
Well my friend had the first one so that's when I started my training and graduated from easy to medium. Then he got the second one so I played that whenever I got the chance.
Now I can't play on easy cause it bores me. I can play on medium and I cleared every song on the list. Some of them I can't stand. Hard I can't really get the hang of yet but my favorites are Sweet Child O Mine Hangar 18 Freebird Killing the Name Less talk more Rokk For some reason I still can't understand how some people can play on easy and think of it as a challenge. I guess it's just me. I'm finally gettin my own copy for Christmas though which will be good. I'll master Hard. My friend is mastering expert and has just about every song done. Including Hangar 18 |
I am a huge Guitar Hero fan. I beat it on hard within a week of getting it, then I kind of stopped playing. I got a Wii and haven't played since.

I loved the first one but the 2nd one just didn't keep me hooked like the first one did. I beat the first 20 levels or so but I wasn't really loving the songs so I stopped playing.
I unlocked a few songs that I did like though, namely Jordan, Six, and The Light That Blinds. |
I'm trying to beat Hangar 18 on expert :(
|
I'm waiting for it to come out on 360, can't wait though
|
I can't even beat the first set of tunes on medium :'(

I fail at 87%ish, can do the very start with my eyes closed now :( |
Six
Thunderhorse 'Wayward Son ...Some others I forget now. I love the game. Got a second guitar when I was sold on the concept. Some songs are just fun to play, others good for the challenge. Can't wait till I get good enough for Hard. |
Quote:
|
Practice mode, go from Slowest to Slower and so on until you get a song down. That's how I got better on Six among others.
|
Quote:
Thank god the intro is somewhat fun to play IMO. Also, I've beaten it, but Rock this Town on Expert is also a bitch. |
I beat the game on medium, and am working on hard now. Big jump in difficulty.
Also, best song = TROGDOR. |
Quote:
Working on hard right now...had a couple probs with Woman, Who Was in My Room Last Night? and right now Freya. |
Woman, you've got me Woman, you got me feel Woman, you've got me feeling of love
Window, you're talkin to me, see right thru me, you've got me feeling of love |
Got it for PS2 when it came out, completed easy and medium then haven't really touched it, will still pick up the 360 version when it comes out though, probably play it more then.

got it for xmas on medium right now
fun times |
Play Six on Expert, then on Hard; and watch how your skills on Med turn out.
Recently I owned Heart Shaped Box with a 99% on Med. Expert isn't that different from Hard (Hard is a shift from Med), it stresses timing more than the others. Whereas Hard Mode adds the Orange Button and more accurate notes. |
K look, I don't even know what happened, but I was ON FIRE tonight. Like I had not touched this game in about a monthe cuz I couldn't get passed Heart Shaped Box on medium, but tonight I ANNIHILATED medium. Like it was amazing. I love my self right now.
|
Yeah, that happens a lot. Like I'll pick it up, and for some reason, I can do no wrong.
Also ,I finally beat Hangar 18!!!! Now I just have to beat Free Bird on Expert :( :( |
The power of Megadeth is unparalleled
|
|
|
Shit, that is a nice controller
< Latest person to get his ass kicked by Hangar 18 btw |
Any word on the cost an "additional songs" for the 360 version?
|
Saw that the other day, cant wait for it to come out as I'll play it more. saying that, I 100% Freebird on my last session on it, was on medium though :-\
|
I 5*'ed Jordan and Thunderhorse on Hard earlier. I felt chuffed.
|
What's the new songs for the 360 version?

Tomorrow, RedOctane will be making a formal announcement to offer up some key details about the forthcoming Xbox 360 release of Guitar Hero II. Among them is the confirmation of a March 2007 ship date. The press release will indicate “over 70 finger-melting tracks,” though a person close to the company told TeamXbox that the game will include 74 on-disc songs—the 64 tunes that made up the PlayStation 2 Guitar Hero II song list, as well as 10 more that are exclusive to the Xbox 360 game. RedOctane’s announcement is expected to reveal five of them (and the artists that made them famous): Billion Dollar Babies (Alice Cooper) Dead! (My Chemical Romance) Hush (Deep Purple) Life Wasted (Pearl Jam) Rock N Roll Hoochie Koo (Rick Derringer) TeamXbox was also told that three of the remaining five exclusives are Possum Kingdom (Toadies), Salvation (Rancid) and The Trooper (Iron Maiden), all of which will be part of the main gameplay. The remaining two are currently unannounced, though they will only be unlockable through gameplay. Additionally, Dead! and Possum Kingdom will be “master tracks,” meaning that they’ll be the respective bands’ original recordings, rather than the studio remakes that make up the rest of the tunes in the game. The other key section of the announcement will revolve around plans for downloadable content through Xbox Live. While RedOctane’s announcement won’t provide details on what will be offered—beyond stating it’ll include “achievement points, download themes, picture packs, and, most importantly, new songs through Xbox Live Marketplace”—TeamXbox was told that the publisher expects to make a batch of songs available on the day that the game hits stores, so players can immediately expand the playable song list. A RedOctane spokesperson stated that he expects the company to announce aspects about the first batch of downloadable tunes some time in February. (As we indicated in our November Guitar Hero II preview, the rumor is that the first downloadable songs will give Xbox 360 players a chance to catch up on the franchise by offering the song list from the first Guitar Hero game. However, a RedOctane spokesperson said that the contents of the first downloadable offerings haven’t been nailed down yet, so for now it all remains something to speculate on.) We were assured that, as you’d expect, Guitar Hero II will have a standard offering of achievements through gameplay, which we assume will comprise 1,000 Gamerscore points. Also, the game will include online leaderboards, so players can “track their high scores and share bragging rights with their friends and other top rock gods.” A RedOctane spokesperson said that leaderboards will likely be set up for weekly and monthly stat tracking, though more details will follow in that regard before the game ships. Finally, check out the new screenshots that will accompany tomorrow’s press release, which reveal how detailed (and improved over previous releases) the HD graphics will be in the Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II. Awesome  |
What, I want to rock The Trooper.
|
I'm so glad I have a 360
|
FUCK I gotta get a 360, if only to play Dead!.
|
Loads of faggots are spazzing out on gamefaqs/gamespot about MCR, but I dont see whats so bad about them. Dead! is a decent enough song and should be pretty great to play.
Now I just want a release date then I will be totally happy. |
I think I heard March 16 somewhere.
|
Freakin awesome.
I want "Transformers" the Movie theme by Lion PLEASE. That's just me, I guess. Also: "Master of Puppets" or atleast "For Whom the Bell Tolls". |
Seeing metallica on this game will never happen. Get over it , please.
|
5 frets one string n a whammy bar...pretty simple so much hype around this game. i guess it is so popular because it lets people who suck at guitar seem like they are good? good strategy
|

Or racer games because people who can't drive for shit can seem like champions? |
Rock N Roll Hoochie Koo (Rick Derringer)

Billion Dollar Babies??!?!
FUCK ME FOR HAVING A PS2 |
So I guess there's a program out there that basically let's you put whatever song you want into Guitar Hero 1 or 2 provided you have a modchipped PS2. Rather than just link to all the individual youtube videos, I'll just put up the Gamefaqs topic I found....
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=932565&topic=32508632 Amazing stuff. I can't imagine ever doing some of these songs. |
How would you even add the mechanical aspect of the songs?

Hmm I'm little bit suss about that kid. On You Really got Me, you can hear the strum bar clicking but the kids hand/fingers dont look like there moving. Then again, on the others it is quite clear he is doing it, the little git.

*faints* I have to play that song.... |
2 got me hooked so I went and bought the original the other week - much, muh harder, and a far more recognisable song list. I think I slightly prefer it, tbh.
FINALLY 5*'d No One Knows on Medium  (shut up, I'm behind you all) |
Just ordered the original yesterday :y:

Play.com have this down as 23/3 for UK release, I cannot wait.
|
Woooooooooooooooo Life Wasted
But they should've used Evenflow, Alive, Rearviewmirror, Present Tense, or Yellow Ledbetter instead. |
Scarily enough, I just learned I know a couple of the people who were behind developing this game.
I knew they had a song in the soundtrack, but apparently, a couple of the guys from the now-defuct Boston Band "Din," Who had ties to the even then-defunct band Tribe, actually worked on the original. COOL :y: |
Love this game. Just flet like I needed to say that.

|
It still proves him wrong :)
|
Not really, no.
|
I don't see how not. The song is being played on Guitar Hero. He stated that you would never see Metallica in the game. If you watch the video, you do see them in it. It's not the matter of how it got there, it's simply that it's there. I don't see how you could argue that at all but I'm sure you're going to give it a shot.
|
They're not in the game.
|
No, he's right. Nobody specified the method that the songs got into the game. The song is clearly being played on Guitar Hero, therefore he wins and there is no point arguing. I'm sure BFM would have been more specific had he known Kane Knight was going to argue the fact.
|
Guitar Hero or Freetar Hero? :p

Seems like the tracklist has been switched around abit for the 360 version. |
Wow just got GH1 the other day. Much harder than 2. Can't even 4 star Cowboys From Hell or Bark At The Moon on medium :'(
|
Having that same problem :o Crossroads too. I'm getting better though, it just takes a lot of practice.
|
I've five stared everything on medium on the first one, apart from Cowboys. GH2 gives you more leeway with the hammer ons/pull offs, which makes things a whole lot easier.
Haven't played GH2 for abit, I'm trying to save myself for the 360 version, but I'm itching to play and try and unlock as many guitars as I can before the switch. |
Wow! Disturbed was tellingm e about this on 360 the otherday, came ehre to look at this thread, defs getting for 360, £75 was it? When does it come out?
|
Play.com have it down as £64.99, and it now due out on the 6th of April.
|
GameFAQs says 04/03.
Which means they're probably wrong. But still. |
Hmm, was practising Cowboys From Hell and Bark At The Moon for a while, still haven't made much progress. But went back to II, and 5 *'d Hangar 18 and Freebird first time (on medium :o ). Only song that really gave me problems was fucking Institutionalised
|
After playing GH1 stuff for a while GH2 tracks become easier. I play everything on Hard; not bragging but Medium does nothing for me anymore.
|
Quote:
|
Yeah, seems to me the GH1 medium mode is harder then GH2's, but The GH1 Hard mode is easier than GH2's.
|
I havn't played anything except Expert for quite a while now. Got a high score of 237k on Jessica now.
|
I'm holding out for Voodoo Child as one of the last 360 songs

From IGN.com
Guitar Hero II Update An Xbox 360 version of GHII magically appears at our doorstep. Details and movies! by Douglass C. Perry US, January 29, 2007 - A large package arrived at out door today. This usually isn't a big surprise as we get all manner of toys and goodies at IGN, but seeing as how it was from RedOctane, we were particularly excited to rip into the box and see what it was. Neatly wrapped inside was a playable Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II and the X-plorer guitar. Nevermind the bullocks, here's Guitar Hero II! Coming to Xbox 360 this March, RedOctane's musical wonder is a near replica of the outrageously fun PlayStation 2 game in play style and looks, but with a few upgrades and customizations for the X360 version. We received a previewable build, but the review version will feature "remodeled HD graphics" and improved audio quality, online leaderboards (weekly and monthly), downloadable content on Xbox Live Marketplace (including new songs, game themes, picture packs, and other items), and 50 different Achievements. Last, 10 new songs were added to the game disc, making a total of 74 total tracks all told, with more available via download. The "remodeled HD graphics" (RedOctane's words) aren't shockingly different, but the resolution is sharper, giving the simplistic graphics a nice new edge. The other stuff is pretty basic (leaderboards and improved audio), although 10 additional songs is a great bonus. The Achievements were well thought out and feature points for things like Beating Trogdor and Thunder Horse for 10 points, getting a 1,000 note streak in Cooperative for 10 points, refusing to play an encore for 10 points, or failing a song on easy for 10 points. There are 1,000 points all together and RedOctane broke the points out widely and with a sense of humor. The 10 additional songs built into the Xbox 360 version include: Billion Dollar Babies (as made famous by Alice Cooper) Hush (as made famous by Deep Purple) Dead! (by My Chemical Romance) - Master Track Life Wasted (as made famous by Pearl Jam) Rock N Roll Hoochie Koo (as made famous by Rick Derringer) The Trooper (as made famous by Iron Maiden) Salvation (as made famous by Rancid) Possum Kingdom (by Toadies) - Master Track Drink Up (by Ounce of Self) - 1st Unlock Kicked to the Curb (by Noble Rot) - 2nd Unlock IGN's Editorial Director Tal Blevins, a notorious GH fan, ripped in to three of the new songs: Possum Kingdom by the Toadies, Salvation by Rancid, and Life Wasted by Pearl Jam, and had this to say about the Xbox 360 version: "Possum Kingdom is the original track from The Toadies and therefore sounds just like the radio version, Salvation sounds like a good cover with decent vocals, but the voice of Eddie Veder is not so convincing on Life Wasted. Eh, at least it's not as bad as the Kurt Cobain on Heart-Shaped Box. "With the additional songs on the Xbox 360 version, the song tiers are mixed up a bit differently than on the PS2. They incorporate the new songs into different tiers. Possum Kingdom and Salvation are in the first tier, and Life Wasted is in the second tier. I haven't had time to unlock any more since we just got the game this afternoon, but it shouldn't take too long to get to all of the new songs." The X-plorer guitar, besides differences in shape, shows slight modification (click on the image above for better visual detail). For the Xbox 360, the X-plorer offers a D-pad and an Xbox 360 Media button at its base, plus a jack for a headset so you can speak with others online, a requirement that's consistent with all of Microsoft's controller peripherals. While the X-plorer neck felt much thinner than its PS2 counterpart while we were playing, it is actually only 1/8-inch narrower in width (not depth) than the PS2 guitar. The colored buttons are squared off at the top, unlike the rounded ones on PS2, and the distance between buttons is exactly the same, as is the distance between all the keys and the strumming bar is also the same. Another physical addition is the location of the strap connection, which fits on a central location so the guitar can be flipped more easily for left-handers. The wired guitar features a bent controller cable that connects at the bottom of the base, and doesn't get in your way as much as the straight-fed PS2 guitar cable. The tremelo bar also felt slightly stiffer than the standard PS2 version, although that may be because this is a brand-new guitar and our PS2 guitars have seen plenty of use. IGN previously has inspected the additional jack located on the bottom panel of the X-plorer, and it's still there on the final retail unit. The odd-shaped proprietary jack doesn't fit an Ethernet or a normal phone jack. We speculate it's for potential future add-ons (perhaps pedals or effects boards?), to hit the market at some future date. There is still no word on a wireless X360 guitar, but a RedOctane representative did tell us that RedOctane and Microsoft are still in discussions on the matter and that details will be hammered out shortly. |
so, im lazy to go through the thread. Any word on online play for the 360?
|
Due to lag, it's seems unlikely.
|

|
Hard is alot easier on the first GH than the second, or thats at least what I'm finding.
|
I got through hard quicker than I did on GH1, but that was because I had experience behind me. Although Hard on GH2 is definately harder than on GH1.

|
The fact the 360 version has MCR means I refuse to play it.
|
So just because of one song, you refuse to play the most awesome game ever?
Suit yourself buddy. |
BTW IGN have been posting some of the new songs in their Insider section. So far they have put up Possum Kingdom, Dead! and Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo.
|

Whenever the notes go from Green to Red don't follow it with Index to Middle finger, rather 'jump' your Index finger from Green to Red and play with you pinky safely awaiting the Orange attack. Practice this with that catchy Freezepop track and you'll get it in your system fairly quikly. |
IGN have also upped videos of Hush, Billion Dollar Babies and Salvation in their non-insider section so go check them out.

This is the tier structure for the 360 version, seems that most are the changes are in the lower tiers, with only a couple higher up:

Guitar Hero was announced for the Wii now. http://www.thetanooki.com/2007/02/08...es-to-the-wii/
|
I wonder what they'll add for that controller, I hope you don't have to tilt the guitar back in the air like in that Guitar Mania arcade game.
|
LOL at everyone spazzing out just cause MCR is in the game. Get over it
|
No online multiplayer on the 360, only online leaderboards. Weaksauce
