I know it's a little bit early to start talking fantasy, but hey, football is over and pitchers and catchers are reporting. Most teams pretty much have all of their holes filled.

Who's ready to get stomped by me again this year?

We gonna do 2 leagues again? I wouldn't mind, becuase I prefer Roto, though most of you guys seem to like H2H better. Either way I'm taking them both again.

I forget who ran the leagues last year, but yeah whoever wants to do it can set it up, if not I guess I can do it.

I'm doing the same H2H league I've been running forever. Thankfully with Yahoo! Fantasy Profiles, it makes my life that much easier in figgering who was in and out.

I'm not going to have as many catagories in the H2H league though probably. There were like 75.

OK I just remember the lowdown(M)??? from last year. It was actually me who did the Roto league and I gues DW did the H2H league. So yeah thats what we did last year.

Does anyone know about fantasy baseball stuff outside yahoo? We tried Fox Sports for football this year and wasn't really any better but I didn't know if Sportsline or somewhere else had a good baseball setup.

I don't know, Yahoo allegedly made a bunch of changes this year. I'm gonna stick with Yahoo for my league.

Not going to have a ton of categories like last year though. That was interesting and made more players valuable, but really, it was overkill.

Hero, I think the amount of categories you have this year should be dependant on how many people sign up.

I mean, last year it was a 16 team league with an assload of positions, so I understand the high amount of categories. If the league is going to be that deep you need a lot of categories because you're going to be carrying some mediocre players who will only contribute in a few categories and will fuck up the rest of them regardless of how good of a manager you are.

I am going to limit the roto league to the standard 12 teams.

That's actually a good point of view. I'll most likely knock things down to 12 teams. Depending on interest.

... that's off the top of my head. we can debate from this point I suppose.

well for pitchers I would want ERA

batters I would add triples and stolen bases

I'm not in that league, but I'd go with doubles over triples. Triples are too rare. It's almost like goalie shutouts in hockey.

I don't know, triples is kind of a dumb category. Not many guys get too many triples.

Stolen bases is definitely a must have.

The roto league will probably include:
Runs, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBP, SLG
W, SV, HLD, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB

Stuff like hits and walks are kind of redundant because they are factored into other catagories.

I might do OPS (on base plus slugging) instead of OBP and SLG, and get rid of K/BB because that's sort of a redundant category as well. It's important to have the same amount of catagories for both pitching and hitting or else one is more valuable than the other.

So, tentatively:
Runs, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS
W, SV, HLD, K, ERA, WHIP

I'm not sure if Yahoo has OPS though. We will see.

A real arguement can be made for getting rid of wins for pitching, though you could say the same for holds, but I feel it adds a nice dimension making middle relievers valuable as well.

Yahoo does have OPS, but most of the time people like to keep OBP and SLG seperately so more players have value.

for sure SBs and ERA, bit surprised I missed those, but it was right off the top of my head.

Dave - When I join a league I look for a commish to be fair, impartial, intelligent and mature. You are none of those things - so don't flatter yourself into thinking that I would want to join your league.

As for categories - one thing to keep in mind is that the stats chosen don't skew the league in favour of a particular type of player. In previous years there have been leagues that have had HR, Total bases, slugging etc compared with just SB or Hits so as a result having a Barry Bonds type player can win you 3 cats a week while Ichiro might win you just one cat. The same also goes for pitching for example if you have K's + K/9 etc then power pitchers become super valuable while a groundball pitcher like Wang is considered of less value than Randy Johnson.

I also like fielding stats because there is more to the game in real life than just hitting.

So IMO it doesn't matter what the categories are but they should reflect all the different skills required and they should be balanced.

Yahoo opened the baseball page today so you guys can set up your leagues whenever you feel fit. I'm down for whatever and as many leagues as I am needed.

I'd like to include fielding stats but fielding percentage and assists are both pretty weak.

I'm going to set it up later when I get to work, I'll post a message about the details when it's complete.

Actually, I just put the league up, PM me if you want in. There is a 12 team limit. I guess guys who played in the Roto league last year get priority, otherwise, first come, first serve.

I don't know. We should have two TPWW leagues, thats all. There shouldn't be 4 leagues because it just kills all of them.

The only "weird" thing about the league is that it is NL only. It is a traditional 23 player 4X4 Roto league.

I'll play in a roto league, I am all set with H2H though...so if you need someone or whatever I'm game. I'm not usually that good in fantasy baseball but I don't give up if my team starts doing shitty (IE I keep checking it haha)
