Dixie Chicks

What the fuck, they won best album of the year. fucking bullshit.

Blitz 02-12-2007 01:22 AM

tbh Not Ready To Make Nice is a decent song.

SammyG 02-12-2007 01:24 AM

It is a pretty decent song, but still. I don't think they deserved all 5 grammys they got.

Blitz 02-12-2007 01:30 AM

Well fuck, were the Grammys ever credible? What do you expect?

weather vane 02-12-2007 02:05 AM

Dixie Chicks are good.

BCWWF 02-12-2007 09:56 AM

I was just about to make a post about this. I listen to country somewhat, and I honestly can't say I recognize this song. Them winning these awards, especially Country Album of the Year or whatever, just shows how off this contest is. First of all, I wouldn't neccessarily consider the Dixie Chicks country, they are more pop. Second of all, nobody who listens to country listens to or likes the Dixie Chicks. It is almost like a slap in the face to the genre, a bunch of artistic snobs giving them the award.

ct2k 02-12-2007 10:05 AM

Can't really think of any awards show in any media which truly awards the best and brightest talent on offer.

Gertner 02-12-2007 10:06 AM

they are the most aggrivating group ever. even worse than green day

ct2k 02-12-2007 10:09 AM

Dunno, Green Day are pretty fuckin terrible and annoying

:lol:Most of the acts put up for the country grammys are "pop" country.

I'm not sure if it's worth laughing at the rest of your bitching specifically, so

Gertner 02-12-2007 11:22 AM

helps when all of the grammy voters are bleeding heart liberals

Kane Knight 02-12-2007 11:23 AM

Anyway, I'm surprised people still get so worked up for the Grammy awards. Seriously, are y 'all that naïve?

Gertner 02-12-2007 11:36 AM

lol my girlfriend put it on and I wasn't about to piss and moan about it, but I did get irrated when I saw pumpkin face Natalie start spouting off at the mouth about how the Dixie Chicks got screwed.

Funky Fly 02-12-2007 03:13 PM

I'm pretty sure they won as an apology for the way they were all but crucified for what they said about 9/11, Bush, etc.

ct2k 02-12-2007 04:07 PM

Well lets face it, they're part of a pretty damn Conservative scene and they essentially said 'FU Bush' quite publically, though death threats and bulldozing piles of their records is a wee bit over the top...Just a wee bit

Gertner 02-12-2007 04:18 PM

freedom of speech goes both ways though.

ct2k 02-12-2007 04:20 PM

Death threats are an abuse of it, and pathetic

Kane Knight 02-12-2007 04:32 PM

For conservatives? That was a goosestep in the park.

Gertner 02-12-2007 04:33 PM

the death threats are excessive, but people have every right to boycottthem if they want to.

ct2k 02-12-2007 04:34 PM

I love how they constantly try to curb freedoms yet are the first ones to cite them when put between a rock and a hard place.

ofcourse, I wasn't commenting on that, more the fact that it was so venomous.

Gertner 02-12-2007 04:40 PM

it just annoys me when any aritst makes political statements and then gets offended if there is any backlash. OF COURSE THERE"S GONNA BE BACKLASH!!!

Yes, death threats are a fair tradeoff for "We're ashamed of Bush."

Gertner 02-12-2007 04:49 PM

god damn it kane i just said it wasn't fair.

Kane Knight 02-12-2007 06:05 PM

And I say you didn't.

I like about 4 Dixie Chicks songs. And that may be stretching it.

M-A-G 02-12-2007 06:46 PM

If you don't even listen to country you shouldn't even care.

Kane Knight 02-12-2007 06:58 PM

Who said they didn't listen to country?

M-A-G 02-12-2007 06:59 PM

Kurt Angle.

M-A-G 02-12-2007 07:00 PM

But seriously, does winning this award really validate them as the creators of the best album of the year or are people going to believe what they want?

Kane Knight 02-12-2007 07:29 PM

That's why I don't rightly get the bitching, TBH. The grammys are bullshit, like any other award show, and we should all know it. There's no way DC or RHCP should really get that many awards, there's no way many of these artists should get awards period, but they will.

Bad Company 02-12-2007 10:45 PM

wtffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff I haven't even heard the song and it wins song of the year? Fuck me.

Bad Company 02-12-2007 10:45 PM

Kids these days

Sure, you are right and I did read what else you had to say in this topic. But explain to me why other artists, who said far more...'colourful' things took no backlash.
I'd say because they were perceived as weaker and easier to attack, because they were women. That's bullshit in it's own right.

Also, the Dixie Chicks didn't get offended by it, they shrunk and hid. Now that more people are seeing things the way they did a long time ago, they came back with a "I told you so" song. Everyone calls them brave and gives them a ton of "we're sorry awards" and life goes on.

The song's ok, but not 5 grammys good, but they were owed a big apology by their peers that said nothing in their defense.

:y:

It always amazed me the shit the Dixie Chicks got for saying what they did.

Skippord 02-13-2007 12:55 AM

Slayer should have won every Grammy ever

Impact! 02-13-2007 01:26 AM

I agree with Skippord

darkpower 02-13-2007 08:23 AM

Well, their album WAS #1 for a good month or so when it came out, SOO...

BCWWF 02-13-2007 11:36 AM

Maybe we should just make Kane Knight dictator of the world.

El Vaquero de Infierno 02-13-2007 01:20 PM

Their "Home" album was pretty good. Can't say I've heard much of the most recent album. Might have to check it out.

Pretty good example of how saying something doesn't make it true.

ct2k 02-14-2007 10:50 AM

Someone please tell me RHCP didn't win any awards...

Kane Knight 02-14-2007 02:19 PM

RHCP won like four.

Which I think is probably the bigger "travesty."

ct2k 02-14-2007 02:41 PM

Good grief, they've not produced anything beyond mediocre since Californication, and half of that was dross.

Kane Knight 02-14-2007 02:52 PM

Their new album is pretty bland, too.

It's funny. I was pointing this out to a friend of mine, and he was like, "I didn't know they were still making albums."

And he's the one who listens to the radion.

ct2k 02-14-2007 02:59 PM

Personally I like One Hot Minute best, its completely indulgent and slightly pretentious but I just enjoy it so much more than anything else they've done. Although the first half of Californication is thoroughly entertaining. Nothing since has interested me

Kane Knight 02-14-2007 06:23 PM

I don't think I could tell most of their songs apart. I like some of their older stuff when it comes on the radio play they get, but their new album makes me want to barf.

ct2k 02-15-2007 11:39 AM

Problem I've found is that funk has a pretty short shelf-life in career terms, especially when you have a singer like Kiedis whose range is pretty limited. The fact that they can only do funk-rock and bland-rock is the main problem however, no variation. The only time they really experimented was on OHM, I think probably because Dave Navarro was on gits at the time.

I remember I sent some of one of Gary Cherone's later bands to someone, and he dismissed them as ripping off RCHP. Which is funny, because it was Cherone's sound since before Extreme in 1984, dating as far back as 1980.

So really, who was ripping off who?

(The answer is probably no-one. Just a musing I had when you mentioned Funk).

Dani California makes me want to kill something, by the way. And are they using the same progression as Papa Roach's "Last Resort?"

ct2k 02-15-2007 01:07 PM

Quite possibly:lol:

And yeah that song pretty much consigned them to the shit and not getting better pile for me too.

Kane Knight 02-15-2007 01:36 PM

I'd hum along with the song to see if it was true, but my throat's fucked up (Acid reflux).
