Napoleon Dynamite
Am I the only person here who thinks that this movie was a giant, overrated, waste of time, pile of shit?? I'd hope not.

No, it's pretty love it or hate it.

I thought it was moderately funny, thus shooting holes through Funky Fly's hypothesis.
|
I will shoot holes through your face with cumshots.
|
I really enjoyed it.
|
YOUR Hero's post does not look good under Funky Fly's last post.
:shifty: |
Personally I thought it tried too hard too hard at subtle humor, and even if it weren't subtle it would still fucking suck.
|
I really liked it the first time but I couldn't stand to watch it again.
|
It's not bad. It's not the best film I've ever seen, though that dance scene is awesome. The way he runs off at the end is quite funny.

like said before, people love it or hate it. i love it.
|
I personally liked it, not the greates movie but, it did a good job of capturing the "high school" feel really....any one seen that spoof of 50 cents "just a little bit" called "just a little kip?"....its fucking hilarious.
|
Terrible unfunny, much like Borat.
|
KingofOldSchool, you sure like to stir shit with your attempts at "casual" observational cynicism. Unfortunately, it just reveals you to be a colossal prick.
|
Also, I quite enjoyed Napoleon Dynamite. Pretty comical in many parts, especially those with Uncle Rico in them.

My opinion is that Napolean Dynamite ranks right with Borat as being overrated and unfunny. That was my opinion before, now, and in the future. There is nothing anything wrong with that, bub. |
I used to like it, but hearing everyone quote it, badly, for two years drove me insane. I can't watch the movie, anymore.
|
I thought it was alright the first time through, but I got insanely bored when I tried to watch it again a couple months later. Turned it off about halfway through.
|
It is hilarious.
Seems to be the cool thing to say it is overrated at the moment. |

Pretty much hated it. One of the most overrated movies ever, tbh.

loved it!
just the first scene has me cracking up |
Borat > KoOs
Fuck Napolean Dynamite however |

I saw it maybe a week or two after it was released and I loved it. Everything was so new and I could go back and remember certain parts and laugh my ass off. Then after it got huge and it became the flavor of the month the humor lost a lot of its charm. I still appreciate the movie for it what it was but I couldn't watch it again.

The first time I saw it, I saw it like 6 months before it was in theaters. They had a special screening of it at my high school for some reason. I don't know, I was high as hell and not really paying attention and I hated it, though some parts made me LOL. I hated it though.
Then I saw it again and thought it was hilarious. Now I hate it again. |
Overrated, but not that bad. But it's cool to hate it now...
|
I just saw the movie for the first time the other day, after seeing clips of it forever and a day and hearing about how good it was, etc. forever now. I finally decided to give it a chance and see it, and it was one of the worst films I've ever seen.
|
It was hilarious but the non-stop quoting of it completely killed it for me. The first time I saw it I dug it though
|
I saw it the first day it came out in NYC and it was insane how funny it was to me. It was like the funniest shit I had ever seen in my life. I went back the next week with a different group of people to watch it again, and everyone loved it then and I loved it even more the second time. I was convinced it was the funniest movie I had ever seen. Then I went a third time like a week later with my brother and he also loved it, and I loved it even more. Then I downloaded it and watched it two more times and still found it ROFL.
It is insanely hilarious. Such ridiculous weird humor. So many parts got stuck in my head. Like when Rico is talking to Kip at that restaurant and he has his arms folded and he keeps pushing his muscles out, lol I dunno. LOVE IT. But now it is ruined to all hell. All the people quoting it like two years after it came out. It is completely dead. I dunno if I would find it funny at all if I tried watching it now. |
I still love it. If people quoting things ruins it then a lot of things would be completely ruined. With films it's not the same with comedy TV shows for me. In that regard.
I haven't watched it in a while but I'm sure I'd still find it funny. |
I dunno how bad people were quoting it in the UK but over here, you have no idea. People quoted literally every fucking thing to a point where it completely voids it of all humor.
|
IDIOT
|
What sorta quotes were people ripping the asses out of? Coz over here in the UK (Where I am anyway) I've yet to hear anyone quote it.
|
Quote:
seriously, your not kidding. im glad i was out of HS when i saw it so i avoided all of the qoute assaults, but from what i heard....my HS had some serious hardcore fans of it when it got big and annoying... still a good movie to me tho. |
there r so many hilarious parts in the movie.
Favourites: Rico throws the steak @ Napolean, HAHAHA! Watching Rico's video and Rico puts his hand on Kip's knee Napolean wanting the chap stick Rico getting annoyed @ Napolean in the supermarket. LOL, heck, i'm gonna watch it again now |
Quote:
There are still parts of ND that I LOL at, scenes that are priceless and can never be ruined, like Pedro saying "You could build her a cake or something." "Build"...who says that? :p |
Uncle Rico: Napoleon, you know we can't afford the fun pack. What, do you think money grows on trees in this family? Take it back! And get some Pampers for you and your brother while you're at it.

Most OVerplayed
Your mom goes to college
|
I still think Rex has the best quotes in the movie. Still quote them pretty often with my friends. And still laugh at it. Then again, I didn't thrash the tits off watching the movie either.
You think I got where I am today because I dressed like Peter Pan over here? Take a look at what I'm wearing, people. You think anybody wants a roundhouse kick to the face while I'm wearing these bad boys? Forget about it. |
GOSH
Idiot! Liger! All very overplayed...that is why I'm worried about Borat falling into the same category. |
I did not enjoy the movie and I can not believe how huge it got. I saw some humour in it, but even that was not funny. I thought Nacho Libre was very similar to it but was better.
Borat is the funniest movie I have ever seen. |
uncle rico is easily one of the funniest movie characters of all time. if not THE FUNNIEST.
|
NOT REALLY THAT FUNNY
|
I laughed at exactly two parts of it: The FFA Competition (having been in FFA in my younger days) and the dance at the end.
I found it to be mostly stupid and I was bored by it. Step-Sister, however, loved it. |
It was fairly boring
|
I fall into the same category as KayfabeMan. "ZOMG1! Napoleon Dynamite if the funniest movie eva!!!11 <3 i want to marry Napoleon! oMG! Have you seen him when he's not Napoleon! He's fucking hot!" Hmm, I thought, maybe I should give it a shot.
A laughed once. And that was at the scene where Kip tried to sweep Rex, but Rex just badassed over it. I might have laughed a few more times if Rex trained Kip to be a samurai, or something. Only a few, though. The movie has been so overrated it's not funny, though. I refuse to say "Gosh" anymore, in fear that it will be connected to Napoleon Dynamite, just because I don't want to be seen as a fan. I don't get what is so funny about the following lines: I don't get why a line like "Tina, come get some ham!" being said to a llama. Is it because the llama's name is Tina? Is it because it's eating a pig? Is it because he's talking to it? I don't get it. The movie seems riddled with set-ups for jokes without punchlines. When he hangs the action figure out of the bus at the start. I don't get why this is funny. Also, the characters in the movie would actually have to try to be so inept, awkward and audience-pandering. Is that the joke? I still don't see why it is funny. My verdict is that it's a dumb movie masquerading as a smart movie, and it fails on every level. |

lol It seems you are saying that every line needs to have comedic context (tina ham bit) You probably saw it after all the hype so you saw it expecting something really great. |
i thought it was alright the first time i saw it. pretty damn funny the second time i saw it. and fucking hilarious the third time i saw it.
i'm pretty much immune to it now. if you don't like it, i would definitely recomend giving it a second look. |
I loved it the first few times I saw it, but yeah I let everybody quoting it all the time get to me and I'm not sure if I could make it through the whole movie again. The scene that had me most ROFL was when Rico was driving and the fruit of some kind hits the windshield of the van. It came out of nowhere and I just lost it.
|
I will forever hate this movie.
|
best scene: Kip drives over tuperware bowl and it explodes.
"dang it!" *drives off* |

lol
Yeah, I've only seen it a few times and I still laugh. I can see it losing its funny if I watched it constantly but every now and then works for me. I'm just glad the quoting of it has died down some. It was like people quoting Austin Powers all over again. GROOVY BABY. But I can defintely see why people don't like it. I don't want to say you don't "get it"...but I dunno, you either think its funny or you don't. Not much in between on this movie. Why is "Tina, come get some ham" funny? Well, to me, I laugh at it 1. because of the way he says it and 2. he's telling a llama to come get ham. SO I DUNNO, different strokes and all that. |
I love how everyone picks to popular quotes like your mom goes to college, when the best ones are the subtle ones. "How much do you wanna bet I could throw a football over one of them mountains." Easily the funniest line from that movie, never heard it quoted once.
|
Yeah word. There is so much subtle humor in the movie that it is amazing to me. Like every single scene and shot of the movie has something funny to it.
|
Also, this movie made me extremely happy that I didn't grow up in Idaho.
|
Kip: So, how long are we talking about working?
Uncle Rico: What, are you already losing your steam? Kip: No, I just... I have a chat room meeting at 4:00. I gotta be back here by then. Uncle Rico: All right, you just start a little earlier then. That's all. Kip: All right. Uncle Rico: Or else work afterwards. How long's the chat room? Kip: Geez, sometimes up to three, four hours maybe... maybe not. I don't know. Uncle Rico: You... you you pay the bills for that? Does that cost money every time you're on, like for minutes on the phone? Kip: Yeah. Grandma's still payin' per minute. She gets kinda pissed at me sometimes cause I'm on there so long. Uncle Rico: I'll bet she does. I'll tell you something, I'd be throwing you out the window. |
Yeah, didn't find it funny at all. It was terrible. I don't know why it's so popular.

just reading this thread right now is making ROFL for real. "Tina come eat your ham" is funny as hell. If you don't get it, then fine, but that shit makes me laugh... Rico pushing up his biceps, lolzzzz -fuck. Dying over here.

I dont think borat is on the same page in terms of cult fans like ND or Office space. its a universally well known movie beacuse it had so much press, not beacuse it had a BIG cult following. |

Pretty much all of Napoleon's lines have been ruined, but Rico, Rex, and Kip's lines still have some of their fresh, original charm. Except for your mom goes to college of course |

*watches video* Napolean: "This is probably the worst video ever" Kip: "Like anyone could actually ever say that." Rico: "Napolean, you can leave!" Napolean: "you guys are retarded" *Rico puts his hand on Kip's leg, LOL |

ARE YOU TRYING to ruin the quotes AdrianM. i guess so. you're doing it online too, so bonus points for that.
|
My favourite part was when Napoleon asked Don for a pin and then just threw it and ran away. Found that hilarious for some reason.

The line "Tina, come get some ham," only aggrivated me because I heard so many people repeat it. I can understand if you're watching a movie and a throwaway line tickles your fancy. It's what makes you laugh, and it comes down to who you are, but people were dancing around quoting it like it was some deep comedic genius. In actuality, he wants a llama to eat. That's what I think my biggest problem with Napoleon Dynamite is. It's nothing but what it is, and for a movie that tries to be so subtle and intelligent with its humour, it's pretty much a sledgehammer to the face, or a cold shower on a winter morning. |
no you are wrong. It was subtle, but well done and thusly became popular. It took on it's own life outside the theater and into people's vocab. It was not a sledgehammer by design, it became one through it's audience.

Quote:
Take Napoleon's love interest, I've forgotten her name: The performance was just too obvious right down to the physical appearance (who does their hair like that?). Sure, that may have been the point, but I don't think it was subtle at all. Things like getting meat thrown in the face aren't the smartest gags, either. I think it is more fractioned their absolute either way, but watching it I knew why I was meant to laugh, I just didn't think it was clever or funny. |
I think the essence of the actual Napoleon Dynamite character is somewhat cerebral, but the way it was adapted is just too one-dimensional for any depth.
|
I still haven't seen it - I might rent it today and let you all know my thought on this movie. Of course now I am expecting not to like it, so I may be in for a suprise.
|
Quote:
I just found it too celebrated for so little. |
i've actually got round to renting it - should be watching it now instead of the rugby :'(
|
What a complete and utter piece of shit - WOW
Quite possibly the worst movie I have ever seen, it's hard to describe how mind numbling boring that movie was, so boring infact it is one of the few movies that I have turned off before the end. 51 minutes was all I could take, terrible terrible movie. |
