The Official WWE DVD Release/Speculation Thread

Considering we get a new thread like this every month or so, I think it would be best to keep it to one thread, like the figures thread.

Here's the latest from PWInsider.

Upcoming DVD projects World Wrestling Entertainment's Home Video department are working on for 2008 releases are a new Shawn Michaels DVD, "The Life and Times of Mr. Perfect", a Batista DVD set, a DVD devoted to the Hell in the Cell, and the Summerslam Anthology set that has been mentioned here previously by PWInsider.com, featuring a collection of the first 20 Summerslam events. I would expect a Survivor Series Anthology to follow in 2009.

Jeritron 03-16-2007 05:20 PM

An Eddie dvd. A stone cold dvd. Shit, even a HHH dvd.
All of these need to be done. Unfortunately, we won't see a Kurt Angle dvd anytime soon.
Hopefully we'll see a Jericho collection soon, but that would be dependent on him signing probably.

I mean, if they're making a Batista dvd set than anythings fair game. Have they made an Eddie set? As far as I know they haven't and it suprises me. Same with Stone Cold and HHH. Tbh, they could easily make a solid set for the Hardy Boyz, and one for Edge.
I wish they'd made a more comprehensive DX set than just the new version.

I'd also like to see a rise and fall of WCW dvd set made. 4 discs would about do it.

Macho Man dvd set too.

Xero 03-16-2007 05:24 PM

I heard an Austin set is coming out later this year, so that will be awesome.

Jeritron 03-16-2007 05:28 PM

I mean, a best of Batista dvd? an entire set?!?

At that point you can release a set for just about anyone.

To think Batistas getting a set, and HHH, Angle, Jericho, Savage, Edge, The Hardys and Eddie Guerrero haven't had them is a bit strange.

It's not even an attack on Batistas ability or his marketability. I just don't see how he's been around long enough to deserve a DVD set.

Xero 03-16-2007 05:38 PM

Cena had a DVD like 2 years into his career.

Eddie has had a DVD released.

Jeritron 03-16-2007 05:40 PM

When was it released? If it was a one disc dvd that included a few matches right when he was about to get over, I wouldn't say that is doing justice.

Jeritron 03-16-2007 05:43 PM

Yea but it was an old school style WWE home video peice. It was one disc.

This is similar to what they did for Rock, Jericho, Kurt Angle, Stone Cold, DX back in the day. I have a thread about it.

It's not the same as a DVD set. Sets have been released for Hogan, Flair, Bret, RVD, Piper, Dusty Rhodes, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, and soon to be Rock and Stone Cold.

The 1 hour documentary type things about the superstar themselves with a few behind the scenes peices put together like on Livewire are not the same. Even if they throw a few matches on for bonus features it's hardly a career spanning DVD set. More of a promotional peice of merchandise.

KingofOldSchool 03-16-2007 05:45 PM

In other DVD-related news, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that the scheduled three disc "Best Of The Rock" DVD set has been put on hiatus. WWE asked The Rock if he could promote the DVD set when it was to be released in June, but he refused. So well, they might not be releasing it after all.
:(

Jeritron 03-16-2007 05:46 PM

So they'd rather not make it than have it come out without him publically promoting it?!
I think it'd sell just fine...

NeanderCarl 03-16-2007 06:09 PM

How well did that Ultimate Warrior DVD sell?

NeanderCarl 03-16-2007 06:09 PM

Anyway, Randy Savage is a DVD set waiting to happen. Personal differences or not, there's money in a Savage DVD. Arguably Hulk Hogan's greatest ever rival??

Jeritron 03-16-2007 06:19 PM

one of the most forgotten stars ever. I mean, they choose not to show off his legacy. But before Austin and Rock came along, he was probably the second in command in terms of mainstream recognition and marketability.
For christ sakes, hes the Macho Man. Snap into a fucking Slim Jim.
All of his problems aside, he's probably in the top 5 or 6 most recognizable wrestlers of all time.

Jeritron 03-16-2007 06:20 PM

actually, scratch probably. He's definitely.

Still have'nt got my Royal Rumble Anthology yet. 3 day shipping my ASS.

mrslackalack 03-17-2007 10:39 PM

Cant wait for the 2 disc Perfect DVD later this year. On the Early 08 DVD list Suprised to see a Batista and a HIAC DVD sets. However a new HBK and Summerslam sets sound very awesome.

Like WM and Rumbles I say u can break down the Anthologys for Summerslam like this.

Vol 1 Summerslams 88-92

Vol 2 Summerslams 93-97

Vol 3 Summerslams 98-02

Vol 4 Summerslams 03-07

I am dumbfounded that the Rock DVD is not coming out, especially since the match listing was already out for it. Cant wait to hear the material on the Great Families of Wrestling DVD coming out in early June, as that is the soonest DVD coming out that hasnt had no info on whats on it yet.

Though they did release a brand new Hogan DVD so I don't know...

KingofOldSchool 03-19-2007 11:27 AM

In Oct 1990. Jim Neidhart was released by the WWF, but he filled out his contract obligations. The Hart Foundation were the tag champs at the time but on a SNME taping they dropped the belts to the Rockers. The Rockers then defended the tag team titles at house shows for about a week. Then Neidhart resigned with the WWF and Vince decided to put the belts back on the Hart Foundation. To explain why, they sent a story to PWI explaining the top rope had broken (which it did) thus giving the belts back to the Hart Foundation, but the match has never been aired on TV, and many claim its what started the long time tension between Bret and Shawn.

I just read this on another website...dont take this as being true or false...just take this as writing on a message board for right now till some evidence actually comes out...

In June WWE was planning on releasing a 3 Disc The Rock DVD set....they contacted Rock to ask him if he would help promote the DVD and he said no...due to this the DVD might no hit shelves at the planned time.

Why would rocky decline such a thing? it seems really out of charcter for him....

This just made me have a flashback to that one HOF dinner where the rock WAS present, but it was during his final year or so there and he was always shooting movies and what not... and someone was on the podium saying "There is no better place, then underneath those warm lights in the ring"...and it just cut to a shot of the rock, almost taking a jab at him you could say.....really cant belive hes not wanting to promote the DVD.

Some big DVD news:

According to the Wrestling Observer and DVD Talk, WWE is going to re-release last Novembers AWA DVD with an exclusive bonus disc containing the AWAs first and only PPV Superclash III, which was held in Dec. 1988

The Matches on the Card were:

Cactus Jack and the Rock & Roll RPMS vs Hector, Chavo, and Mando Gurrero

WCCW Light Heavyweight Championship
Eric Embry vs Jeff Jarrett

Jimmy Valiant vs Wayne Bloom

WCCW Texas Heavyweight Championship
Iceman King Parsons vs Brickhouse Brown

Bad Company and Madusa vs The Top Guns and Wendi Richter

AWA TV Title
Greg Gagne vs Ron Garvin

Lingerie Battle Royal

Luna, Pocahontas,The Terrorist, Nina, Malibu, Bambi, Laurie Lynn, Peggy Lee Leather, and Brandi Mae

Boot Camp Match
Sgt Slaughter vs Col. Debeers

The Rock N Roll Express vs Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden

Indian Strap Match

Manny Fernandez vs Wahoo McDaniel

WCCW World Tag Title
The Somoan Swat Team vs Michael Hayes & Steve Cox

AWA VS WCCW World Title Unification Match
Jerry Lawler vs Kerry Von Erich

Wal-Mart,Target,Best Buy, and Amazon have the Ladder Match DVD coming out on June 5th (same day as the Families DVD) instead of in Aug, and appears to be true since the cover is already released for it. While the material for the 3 disc set hasnt been annouced, The DVD says it will feature Bret Hart in the DVD. Bret has only appeared in 2 ladder matches, In Stampede Wrestling vs Bad News Allen, and the WWFs first ever Ladder Match against Shawn Michaels on a House Show in July 92 that was released on Coliseum Video, so WWE might have ladder matches from other promotions or rare ones on the DVD.

Jeritron 04-21-2007 10:41 PM

Can't wait for that Ladder Match dvd. Glad to hear Bret is participating in more DVD projects.

KingofOldSchool 04-21-2007 11:09 PM

Looks like I'm going to sell my AWA DVD then.

Xero 04-21-2007 11:11 PM

It was probably one of the topics they talked about when they did his DVD. They said they did like an 8 hour session or something like that, which should cover years of DVD releases.

As for the AWA set, glad I didn't pick it up, now I will for the extra DVD. :y:

That isn't to say I wasn't going to pick it up, but it wasn't high on my must have DVD list.

The Stone Cold DVD is now coming out Aug 7th instead of Nov 21st. Wal-Mart has it as the date the DVD is coming out, and thats prolly what the cover has already been released for it, and to come out as the same time as the Condemned on DVD.

I hope they bundle Condemned with it, then I don't have to rent it.

Info on the "Families" DVD from PWInsider:

The complete match listing and extras for the forthcoming WWE Most Powerful Families in Wrestling DVD has been released. Add a 2 disc set on Florida Championship Wrestling coming out early next year. (read this on some website cant recall)

mrslackalack 05-14-2007 11:43 PM

Interesting selection on the Families DVD. Not the best match listing out there but its a random selection and its diverse from time periods and promotions. Glad to see the Steamboat/Youngblood vs Briscos tag match from Starrcade 83 on there I always have wanted to see that match!

Jeritron 05-15-2007 12:17 AM

A Simmons 4 disc set would be interesting as you can put on their his days in Florida, Doom, His WCW title Reign, His ECW run, and his WWE span from the Nation to ministry to APA and feature all his DAMN! segments and some matches.

Some DVD notes.

Amazon, Wal-Mart and Best Buy ALL have the Austin DVD coming out Aug 7th. The Koch Website has the WCCW DVD coming out that same date in Canada so it seems that WWE is putting out dual releases on the same date like they are doing with the Ladder Match/Families DVDs.

It'll be interesting to see how the WCCW one goes. I bought the non-WWE and am about half way through (watching it here and there) and it's pretty awesome and detailed and makes it look like a really great promotion that I would like to see someday.

Yeah Heroes of World Class is an excellent DVD. The only thing it lacks is bonus matches and while WWEs version will prolly not be as good as Heroes, at least it will carry bonus matches.

People in Texas still talk about the Von Erichs like they are gods.

mrslackalack 05-27-2007 11:23 PM

Yeah many claim if David Von Erich hadnt passed away that he would have been one of the biggest legends in the business.

I see it as what Forever Hardcore was to the Rise and Fall of ECW. A companion DVD that goes a little/a lot more in depth with non-contracted people and other sides of stories that WWE might not want to be let out.

mrslackalack 05-31-2007 10:19 PM

Some DVD news

Silvervision has listed a 2006 WWE PPV box set. So it will likely come out soon.

JR mentioned on his blogs that hes been a big advocate of WWE box sets, and hes been pushing for DVD sets on the Clash of The Champions and all of the Raws from 1999!

I also read on a website that there is plans for a Ricky Steamboat DVD in the future.

Xero 05-31-2007 10:32 PM

Nice. The Clash DVD set would be awesome. Don't really see the point of the RAWs unless they did it by season.

I've been thinking that it would be cool if the WWE released the Attitude era by PPVs. Say they start with the Royal Rumble 1998. You'd get the Royal Rumble and every RAW before it to the last PPV. Then you'd get in the next set every RAW up to the Feb PPV including that PPV etc. Sell them in 2-3 DVD sets for $30 or so a piece. It's a pretty good trade-off of full sets of RAW vs. the entire run of WWE TV.

Yup I meant meant each season since 1999 for the RAW sets. And your idea on PPVs is a great idea. WWE kinda did that with the WM3 CE where they had a couple bonus matches and some interviews and segments from Boston Garden, Superstars, etc.

Yeah, I don't see it either. Could have been a poll somewhere.

Just rechecked the news and it wasn't posted by either of the three main reporters, so it could be fabricated. If it was, I apologize...

(That's more than Matt Boone has ever done...)
