Best Live bands

You know, everybody has favorite bands and all but there are just those bands you go to see Live that blow you the fuck out of the water and put on A FUCKING SHOW! This stems from the Mushroomhead concert we saw saturday in a kinda mid sized bar, FUCKING GREAT! I still can't hear correctly. The stage presence was fantastic and it was just... well great  :y:

Tornado 03-19-2007 05:10 PM

Muse are by far and above the best live band I have ever seen, 6 gigs and counting.
Brighton, Earls Court, Eden Project, Wembley Arena x 3 and Wembley Stadium in June.

The Diva 03-19-2007 05:17 PM

We went to Fayetteville (3 1/2 hours away) for this and wanted to go to the one in Charlotte on our way back last night but you know... having no money sucks it :'( . So next time around we plan to do a whole wekend of shows. Don't you just love it when a band you love is ACTUALLY good live!

Just John 03-19-2007 05:20 PM

PEEEEAAAARRRLLL JAAAAAAMM

Can't fucking wait to see them at the Gorge

I heard Massive Attack were good live too.

Kane Knight 03-19-2007 05:26 PM

Stone Coyotes. How 3 people can get that much sound out is beyond me.

No, I expect it.

ct2k 03-19-2007 05:32 PM

Motorhead and Anthrax were both f'n unbelievable, same gig too, hotness

Tornado 03-19-2007 05:33 PM

On the minus side, I am going to see My Chemical Romance on Wednesday, and I have heard they are awful live.

Wish I could say the same. I'd rather expect them to be bad or mediocre and then the show own like no other then expect great things and be horribly let down.

Ummmm you're a little late their buddy.

They played there the last two years, but I don't think they are playing there again this year.

But, Pearl Jam is defiantely tops.

FakeLaser 03-19-2007 06:06 PM

Best shows I've seen:
Roger Waters
Brand New
Glassjaw

Silent 03-19-2007 06:08 PM

I saw Green Day like 5 years ago, they were great. It was way before the American Idiot era.

I'd tell you to get higher standards, but...

Most bands, barring production magic, are better live, not worse. So it really should be the standard that a good band plays live. Even a bad band should sound at least a little better live.

This doesn't count for bands who play to backing tracks, lip synch, or have their voices/instruments corrected. They pretty much fall under production tricks.

My Top 3 Live Bands (in no particular order):
Morrissey
Bright Eyes
Coheed and Cambria (mostly because it was in the tiny ass Fireside Bowling Alley and they tore the roof down, literally)

Avenger 03-19-2007 07:20 PM

favourite band that I've seen live enough to really know are Van Morrison and the band he's been touring with the last decade. His performances recently have been phenomenal and I've seen him about 5 or 6 times.

Melissa Ferrick used to open for Morrissey. And she is seriously asskicking.

Usually, her studio albums disappoint because she can do better solo than she can witha band and a producer.

Mercury Bullet 03-20-2007 12:20 AM

311.

End of discussion.

FakeLaser 03-20-2007 12:21 AM

I really want to see Morrissey at the Garden but I don't think I'll be able to get tickets.

ron the dial 03-20-2007 01:52 AM

Morrissey usually plays small venues out here, usually in Milwaukee. I've seen him twice now, and am planning on going when he comes back later this year. SO GOOD.

el fregadero 03-20-2007 02:16 AM

Tool is the best I've seen live yet. Going to see them again in May.

weather vane 03-20-2007 04:12 AM

I like bands that put on a show as well as showcase their music in a unique kind of way. I saw Pearl Jam and they just sat on stage pretty much and played, kind of boring. A lot of bands I have seen do the same crap. They just play their music and barely even talk to the crowd, nevermind put on a show.

Skippord 03-20-2007 04:57 AM

Totally gonna see King Diamond when he plays here next

El Vaquero de Infierno 03-20-2007 07:52 AM

Best gig I've been too was when I went to see Chris Thile at the Life cafe in Manchester, back in November. The venue is small and intimate, and the audience stand right next to the stage. I was only 4-5 feet away from Thile, and he was freakin' amazing (as you would expect). When he wasn't ripping on his mandolin, there was like constant banter between him and the audience. It's great when the act doesn't ignore the audience and gets them involved.

On another note, Nickel Creek are also very tasty live. I will be definitly catching them live one time before they disband at the end of they year. Chris Thile I think will be bringing his "How to grow a band" band with him to the UK this year as well, which will rock.

King Jericho 03-20-2007 08:37 AM

Megadeth have normally one of my favourite bands to see live, even though Mustaine's voice isn't always that good live. Opeth are awesome too.

What PJ show did you go to?

Because they hardly "just sit on stage and play" unless you caught them on an off night or something. The six plus times I've seen them, they hardly just sit there and play. Especially Sir Mike McCready and Eddie, unless you were watching Matt Cameron all night because most drummers do just sit there and play.

Bad Company 03-20-2007 08:52 AM

Best Shows I've seen

Deep Purple
Prodigy
Pendulum
Foo Fighters

KingofOldSchool 03-20-2007 09:05 AM

The Strokes are pretty good live as well.

Agreed, Muse are good.

Kasabian are pretty fucking sweet.

And I have tickets to see the Arctic Monkeys at Sheffield Leadmill in April.

packt up 03-20-2007 07:19 PM

Muse. That is all.

Skippord 03-20-2007 07:55 PM

Slayer

redoneja 03-20-2007 08:41 PM

Best show I've seen was The Black Crowes.

Saw them a couple of weeks ago. They weren't bad at all.

Although, Rise Against's opening set absolutely blew them away.

Arashi Kage 03-20-2007 09:47 PM

Judas Priest never dissapoint live.

I took my older cousin to see Priest on the united tour, my cousin isn't into metal, but after the show, he said that Priest was the best live performance that he had ever seen - in his words, better than Aerosmith, Foo Fighters, and like 6 other bands (I forget the other that he listed) that he had seen.

Shaggy 03-20-2007 11:10 PM

Metallica was amazing the last two times I saw them...they played for over 3 hours...

Korn was pretty good...

Just went to the No Fear tour show with Killswitch Engage, Dragonforce, Chimaira and He is Legend....all the bands did pretty good but I was really blown away with Chimaira's performance...they wernt headlining but they pretty much owned the crowd

Rob 03-21-2007 09:39 AM

Limp Bizkit by a mile for me.

Distubred are also very good too. I'll probably go see both every time they tour even if they never release another album.

I saw the Arctic Monkeys early in 2006 just before they went huge in the UK. They were extremley bland, I hope they've improved since then.

Cool, Thursday are the support act over here (UK), should be a pretty good gig, it's tonight.

RP 03-21-2007 12:23 PM

Nickleback

Rammsteinmad 03-21-2007 04:56 PM

Dream Theater are awesome live.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra have a fucking amazing live show.

But I think the masters of playing live are Metallica... nobody can work a mic like James Hetfield.

I prefer when it's all about the music. The theatrical stuff can take away from a performance. But they should at least talk to the crowd every now and then.

Kane Knight 03-22-2007 01:30 PM

If you just want the music, go put in a CD.

Stickman 03-22-2007 02:13 PM

There's a difference between just the music on a cd and in person. There's a lot more energy and emotion and electricity in the air live.

Kane Knight 03-22-2007 02:23 PM

See, already we're talking about elements that can "detract" from the music, though.

I went to the one in my city, Thunder Bay. I don't know a lot of people loved it and I know a lot of people that didn't think it was so hot. I like Pearl Jam somewhat but it just wasn't all that amazing. I wasn't blown away or anything.

Also I obviously know that drummers sit down and play you plug. Don't sass me.

Actually there was one part where they went and played in the crowd that was pretty cool. It was at the end of the show so by then I was like meh.

Zen v.W.o. 03-22-2007 07:25 PM

PJ rules live because of Eddie and the passion in his voice. The guy has one of the best voices going and when he belts out those great vocals to his great songs, you really dont need much more.

Not to mention Mccready can get you going in a big way.

Their set lists are also different from night to night.

I'll be seeing Tool soon, we'll see how they shape up.

Hey, at least I was being sarcastic. :p

LK 03-23-2007 10:06 AM

Saw Jet a couple of weeks ago in Glasgow and they were great.

Saw the Killers about a month ago in Aberdeen and they were really good which kind of suprised me given that any time I have seen them on the internet at least prior to Sam's Town, they didn't look that great.

Radiohead are still the best band I've been to see.

Shaved Monkey 03-23-2007 10:34 AM

Marilyn Manson
Neil Young
Wild T and the Spirit

Saw them when they were out here on the Sam's Town tour a couple of months ago and they were brilliant. Had the crowd completely stunned.
