Biggest Insult to the WWE Title

Yeah, go on with it then.

Savio 03-30-2007 11:36 AM

I made a thread like this 2 weeks ago. NEways to the WWE title I'd say Vince.

Theo Dious 03-30-2007 11:42 AM

Yeah but did you have a POLL??? And if so, did it have my fascinating and insightful choices? And were you as mind-numbingly BORED when you made yours?

Kane Knight 03-30-2007 11:42 AM

Rey Mysterio as champ. Since that's not n option, "lost smile."

Theo Dious 03-30-2007 11:43 AM

I was about to put Rey up, but I'm just talking about the actual "WWE Title."

ttetf 03-30-2007 11:50 AM

Montreal screwjob killed the illusion that the title is something won being fought tooth and nail over rather than a piece of metal placed on whoever Vince thinks should have it.

Granted this is pro wrestling and its understood the outcome is predetermined but still...

Jeritron 03-30-2007 11:59 AM

What about KFed fighting, and though uncleanly, beating the champion?

Theo Dious 03-30-2007 11:59 AM

The thing is that part of the justification for the screwjob was the safeguarding of the WWF title. Which, of any reason given, comes closest to having some real credibility to it; Vince had already seen one of his titles literally dropped in the trash on WCW TV. However, that whole notion suffers from the fact that everything that proceeded to ensue would seem to have indicated that Shawn and Vince were personally above the title.

DAMMIT I forgot that one.

The Genius 03-30-2007 12:40 PM

whats the story behind the "lost smile?

Stickman 03-30-2007 12:43 PM

What did Mr. Perfect do?

Shawn Michaels was supposed to do a job to Bret Hart at WrestleMania 13 as a receipt for Bret's job to him at WM 12. However, Shawn came down with some 'jobberitis' and claimed a serious, career-threatening knee injury. On TV, he vacated the title claiming he had 'lost his smile' and needed to go find it again.

Mr. Nerfect 03-30-2007 12:46 PM

The spinner belt. It works great for a heel ("I'm the Champion! I earnt this belt! I can do whatever I want with it!"), but for a face...ew.

The others really didn't hurt much, in my opinion. Wrestling is a fixed sport, sometimes crazy soap opera-ish shit makes the Title more important.

The One 03-30-2007 12:46 PM

The creation of the World Heavyweight Title. That's my only answer.

Jeritron 03-30-2007 12:48 PM

That's a damn good answer Tovo.

I don't find any of these listed choices to be bad at all really.

Did they redesign a belt after that and where did the storyline lead?

FourFifty 03-30-2007 01:26 PM

Spinner, 'nuf said.

Years later the WWF put a piece of duct tape on the belt and wrote "Hardcore" on it.

I thought it as "a" WWE title. Oops.

M-A-G 03-30-2007 10:53 PM

What's wrong with spinner belts?

Kane Knight 03-31-2007 12:22 AM

More to the point, are smoking skull belts included?

M-A-G 03-31-2007 12:25 AM

Yeah, really. Austin had his own belt, why not Cena?

Skippord 03-31-2007 12:50 AM

Cena is nowhere near as popular or good as Austin?

Skippord 03-31-2007 12:50 AM

Also no one else held the Smoking Skull belt

Because even when Edge and RVD won the belt it was still the spinner belt.

Anyone remember the fucking terrible design they did for the Brahma Bull belt. God that was terrible, thank god they didn't go through with it.

SammyG 03-31-2007 03:01 AM

I like the spinner belt.

Yeah, I gotta say that was pretty stupid.

What does that have to do with anything? Less popular individuals shouldn't be allowed to be marketed for merchandising?

Skippord 03-31-2007 04:46 AM

No, just saying that why does Cena get his own belt but no one else who has been champion does?

.44 Magdalene 03-31-2007 06:06 AM

The spinner belt wouldn't bother me if Edge hadn't have held it as well. RVD holding it made trace amounts of sense in a funny sort of way. Edge holding the spinner belt just screamed "THE TRANSITIONAL CHAMP IS HURRRR."

I wouldn't consider it the biggest insult, just the biggest one in recent memory.

You aren't a transitional champion if you job the belt back to the person you won it from 3 weeks later... Backlund in 95 was a transitional champ (beat Bret for the belt, jobbed a week later to Diesel, cause they didn't wanna do the face/face thing or they didn't wanna job Bret)

addy2hotty 03-31-2007 08:22 AM

The Spinner Belt disgusts me to this day. At least the Smoking Skull belt was based on Austin.

Now if they had a wigger belt, I'd be ok with it.

I can go one better and tell you I got the foam kiddie's replica of the Smoking Skull belt for a birthday.

It was my 19th birthday however and I think the irony was lost on me considering that I asked for a stripper, booze and some coke. :(

HBK's knee was actually fucked up pretty good, but of course, don't let the truth get in the way of your witch hunt and Bret Hart fellatio.

lol Actually I was referring to the Brahma Bull belt.

Jura 03-31-2007 11:01 AM

In my opinion I think Taker's WM streak is better than all three titles right now. Doesn't matter if some of the "dragons" he slayed weren't worthy but 14 of the biggest show of them all and staying undefeated says something to me.

Chavo Classic 03-31-2007 11:02 AM

In the spirit of the thread I'll have to say Spinner Belt. This is not because I've got a season ticket on the Die Cena Die bandwagon, but because it was one of the few options above that was done with good intentions and it blew back up in the faces of management.

It was a terrible idea - to bastardise a representation of the history of the biggest federation in the world as a desperate attempt to put over a guy whose talents didnt warrant his promotion and had difficulty getting over on his own without the efforts of every 'yes man' in the PR department, marketting division and booking team .

austin did it...suppose he was a bit of an anti-hero tho

Indifferent Clox 04-01-2007 04:17 PM

is that torrie wilson in your picture chavo? cuz whoever it is is just hot

Chavo Classic 04-01-2007 04:44 PM

Its not Torrie. It's some generic porn star probably.

I don't really think it was a bad idea, nor did it backfire, nor was it desperate.

The belt's not the problem; had he been someone else, people would probaly like the belt. Cena's the problem: His push, his immediately watered-down role.

Look I'm the furthest thing from a Bret Hart fellator you'll find, but the truth is that Shawn seemed to get miraculously cured from his "career threatening injury" amazingly fast.

Which people are quick to forget, because it's inconveneint to their McMahon fellating.

Let's face it. there's cocksuckers on both side of this issue.

The belt is part of the problem. It looks awful. I cringed everytime Edge held up that belt.

Kane Knight 04-02-2007 12:53 PM

I did too, but more because I haven't given a shit about Edge for like 2 years. :p

Groooooooooooooooan

We'll have to ask "the One."

Slow 04-03-2007 03:17 PM

Biggest insult to the title is being around the waist of a gangster rapper who used to wear a padlock around his neck. A padlock people!

IIKVII 04-03-2007 03:35 PM

By Far I say that spinner belts made them look everlastingly worse then the undisputed title made them look.

I do feel the US Title looks as bad if not worse than the spinner.

It's not bad but it jobs to every belt to rerpresent that title in the 20 years preceding it.
