What is the worst wrestling game ever?

For all wrestling games ever that have come out.

I'll go with WCW Nitro.

D Mac 04-06-2007 01:03 AM

Tag Team wrestling for NES kinda sucked. But that was way back when.

El Fangel 04-06-2007 01:04 AM

WWF Warzone.

Blitz 04-06-2007 01:12 AM

Excluding like NES games, prolly WCW Thunder.

I heard that WCW Backstage Assault was awful, but I never played it.

Blitz 04-06-2007 01:12 AM

On the flip side, know what wrestling game was really underrated? WCW Vs The World for the PS1.

The Fugitive 04-06-2007 01:15 AM

I'm going to say WCW Mayhem.

It was alright for it's time, but its successors are so good, they make it virtually unplayable.

Bad Company 04-06-2007 01:23 AM

Nitro on PC sucks all kind of ass, as does wrestlemania the Arcade game.

Never played Backstage Assault, so I couldn't say that was the worst.

Hey, WMTAG and INY for ps1 was actually pretty cool for its time tho, granted it didnt offer much otherwise, but it certainly wasnt no royale rumble for the dreamcast...i still have fucking nightmares

Very true, wasnt it such an odd ball game tho? like i understand it paved the way for the NWO games that followed but damn, it was the only wrestling game that i honestly thought was "weird".

Xero 04-06-2007 08:37 AM

Legends of Wrestling is definitely up there.

Awesome concept, horrid execution.

I seriously remember playing Nitro and was just in SHOCK at how bad the controls were, and how horrible the speed was. It's seriously in the top 3 worst games I've played ever.

All WCW games not on N64.

Funky Fly 04-06-2007 04:02 PM

Any of youse guys ever play WCW Superbrawl on SNES?

Aside from the horrible graphics, terrible gameplay and general suck assness, when you were at the character select screen the pictures randomly screamed at you. No joke.

Xero 04-06-2007 04:28 PM

LOL, I think I rented Superbrawl a few times. Don't remember much about it though.

 God. I remember that game like it was yesterday. I was at a buddy's house and he had that. When I first heard it, I just hit the floor laughing.

But if anything was awful. Probably WCW vs. The World. Or one of the WWF games on genesis. Not Royal Rumble, that game was fun.

OssMan 04-07-2007 12:14 AM

what was that game WWF In Your House or something, what the heck was that

Silent 04-07-2007 12:26 AM

Royal Rumble on the dreamcast/arcade. Punch punch punch punch punch, I win.

Vastardikai 04-07-2007 12:52 AM

Wrestlemania on NES.

Running around as Hulk Hogan trying to catch a cross power-up.

Also I still to this day have no idea how to get up.

Must underrated game? World Championship Wrestling for NES. The characters included Michael Hayes, Ric Flair, Lex Luger, Ricky Steamboat, Hawk, Animal, Sting, Steve Williams, Eddie Gilbert, Kevin Sullivan, Mike Rotundo, and Rick Steiner.

I don't know, back then I thought it was awesome, but looking back it was pretty bad. And the series had the worst wrestling control scheme ever.

Also, I'm surprised no one has mentioned WWF Betrayal.

WCW Backstage Assault
Backyard Wrestling

Boomer 04-07-2007 09:48 PM

WWF Warzone was one of the reasons I started watching wrestling in the first place. I wouldn't call it bad, but it was trying to be a fighting game more than a wrestling game, with all the hard to remember moves and such.

Warzone was an excellent game. Was this the first wrestling game to implement a create a wrestler mode?

Just wondering all you guys who are still up on this shit, has anything come close to topping the WCWNWO Revenge/WM2K/No Mercy engine yet? Can still play all 3 of those til my thumbs have gone numb

Xero 04-10-2007 03:35 PM

DOR, I believe, was based at least partly on that engine.

There are Japanese games that people say are great, but in American games, no, the WCW/nWo World Tour engine (originally the VPW engine, correct me if I'm wrong) is the best (in most people's opinions).

ct2k 04-10-2007 03:47 PM

WCW gaming never got better than Revenge did it. I wanted Mayhem to be great but it just never worked, the collision sensing or whatever was awful, so slow and awkward.

Worst - Legends of Wrestling
Underrated - WCW vs. The World
Best - No Mercy 64

***These are all time-related, being "in their day" they were best, worst, etc.

DaveWadding 04-18-2007 03:42 PM

WCW vs the World was the 1st game I got for PS1...Eddie was the mang on that game.

but worst...Prolly IYH.

St. Jimmy 04-18-2007 03:46 PM

WCW/nWo Thunder. That game was bloody terrible.

darkpower 04-19-2007 07:31 AM

Thunder, Backyard Wrestling (where the fuck was the WRESTLING, and the story line mode had no hint of a POINT, as the cutscenes had nothing to do with ANYTHING).

Oh God, don't mention Superbrawl. I was playing it and at one point, when caught in a submission, the ref began counting me out to 10 (like he would for a pinfall) before ringing the bell...apparently I had a 10 count to get out of a submission before he pulled a Montreal on me. But I have never heard a rule like that ANYWHERE in my LIFE, where a ref would actually treat a submission like a 10 count pinfall attempt. The second he went "1, 2, 3, 4," I was like "WHAT THE FUCK?!" And I stared at the screen for the next minute wondering what the fuck just HAPPENED!! And then after I realized, I stared for another 2.

Basically put, WCW SB was WHACKED!!

XL 04-19-2007 09:41 AM

I had a game for my NES, think it was called WWF Wrestling Challenge or something. The only thing I remember is that in the "season" mode you could play as a character called "Me".

You couldn't put your name in, you were just "Me".

Oh hang on it might have been "You" not "Me", as I said I really don't rememeber it that well.:-\

I have to say Thunder was probably the worst. Mayhem was garbage, but I wasn't sure what to expect comming from EA, it being their first wrestling title and all. It was such a disappointment that I didn't even bother with Backstage Assault.

I enjoyed Simpsons Wrestling

:'(

wwe2222 04-27-2007 08:31 AM

Warzone was great...we would play that game for hours...I built up all my stats and then used the Rocks moveset. He had that jumping kick, when combined with full speed, was impossible to beat.

I always enjoyed Wrestling Challenge...I liked that you could challenge for the World or Tag Team titles and that it also had other features. I also liked it would randomly play all the wrestler themes mid match.

The worst for me was Super Wrestlemania on SNES. It featured a good cast of people, but all you could do on it was the same couple moves for everyone. There were no finishers, no trademark moves. Just punch, kick, grapple, slam, suplex, and elbow drop.

Royal Rumble for N64 was good...It finally had finishers, but you could make people submit to a submission move unless you were playing No holds barred. And you couldnt pin something with the perfect plex. Other than that, I loved this game.

Raw is War for SNES was ok...just like Royal Rumble except for a new group of wrestlers and some added special moves.

The WWE games on XBOX are all very disappointing though.

Reavant 04-27-2007 09:03 AM

I loved raw 2 for xbox. it seemed like the same thing as nomercy and those others except faster.

It only got a 7.0 though, whereas the other Nintendo GameCube's WWE games (excluding the racer Crush Hour), WWE WrestleMania XIX, WWE Day of Reckoning, and WWE Day of Reckoning 2, scored 8.0, 8.3, and 8.5 respectively. Yes X8 was "Decent", but truly left much to be desired.

Xero 04-29-2007 02:24 PM

How is that the "worst" though?

X8 introduced WWE games to the GameCube, introduced the full-sized Hell in a Cell (granted, with a shitty escape) and had pretty good gameplay.

It's not one of the best, but I can't see how anyone can say it's one of the worst. It's pretty much an average wrestling game.

No real story mode, shitty belt system, plus you can usually win a match with one finisher. One finisher and bam hit Z on the controller, instant 3 count...big wow there:p But different strokes for different folks though.

Oh, and did I mention that probably a third or more of the wrestler's in the game didn't have their proper music, because THQ wouldn't take the time to license certain wrestlers themes, and how it was rushed to market in 3-6 months, producing a crappy game?

Xero 04-29-2007 04:50 PM

So you're telling me that a game like, for example, WrestleMania: The Arcade Game is BETTER than that?

It may be one of the worst last-gen games, but hardly anywhere near the bottom of any all-time worst.

Hmm...got kinda mixed feelings about that one. After all, it was heralded as a great flop (4.7 - Poor on PC, 4.8 - Poor on N64, but yet the version on the PlayStation must not have been so bad because IGN gave it a 7.0 - Decent review score...I guess it's a matter of which system(s) you played it on that really determines your feelings about this game in particular.

DAMN iNATOR 05-03-2007 11:53 AM

Also, I was just checking out the reviews for Backstage Assault on IGN, and WOW did they ever HATE it! Got a 2.0 - Terrible review for the PS(1 or X) version and yet somehow on the N64, it got a twice as high but still pretty bad, 4.0 - Poor. So if Backstage Assault doesn't take the cake it sure got a damn good chunk of it by the looks of things...
