Official Guitar Hero 3 thread

http://www.destructoid.com/guitar-he...e--30899.phtml

Kinda weird. Red Octane put something up on their website that said "Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007". But now it's gone. Odd.

So who knows.

Guitar Hero 3 this Fall
RedOctane FAQ may have spilled the beans.
by Hilary Goldstein

April 9, 2007 - Guitar Hero 3 is coming to PS2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii this fall. That according to Guitar Hero co-publisher RedOctane's site. In its FAQ section, RedOctane answers a common question: "When is Guitar Hero 2 (II) Coming? Will there be GH 2 for Wii, PS3, XBox, Xbox 360, etc?" The answer goes above and beyond the call of duty, announcing that Guitar Hero 3 is coming later this year for all major consoles.

The official answer reads:

"Guitar Hero 2 for Playstation 2 launched 11/7/2006, Xbox 360 launched 4/3/2007 and both items are shipping now. Please check www.guitarherogame.com and www.redoctane.com for the most rrent information.

Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007."

It should be noted that the FAQ answer, which numerous message board readers began linking to this evening, is not an official statement or announcement by co-publisher Activision or developer Neversoft. Activision and RedOctane could not be reached for comment at time of publish.

It's gonna be a noisy 2008.

Funky Fly 04-12-2007 02:52 PM

Fall '07? Nice.

Shaggy 04-14-2007 01:25 AM

Im hoping to see some screenshots soon....perhaps some song confirmations...never to early to find out what tracks are on it. God knows I wasted all my time on those Guitar Hero forums.

SammyG 04-15-2007 02:49 AM

um. a friend of mine told me that his uncle, which works for the company that makes guitar hero, said that in GH3 you will be able to incorporate any song you have on your system into the game, and you'll be able to play it. ANY SONG YOU HAVE ON YOUR SYSTEM. If this is true, how fucking sick is that.

Blitz 04-15-2007 03:46 AM

That would mean that they'd never have to put out another version again. So I heavily doubt that.

If true, sucks for PS2 owners.

(IE Me :( )

Extreme Angle 04-15-2007 10:37 AM

Gonna piss GH2 then and just go for GH3 when that comes out,
also I wanted to see my new sig...

While that sounds like a good concept, it would essentially be pressing buttons at random. They have to map out the button layouts for each song to make it feel like you are actually playing a guitar. To generate that for any song would be complicated. First do detect when a guitar is being played within the song, then to make the map out for the level feel natural while playing it. Instead there will probably just be new songs you can download for each system which is much more likely.

Funky Fly 04-15-2007 03:39 PM

Yup ^

Kalyx triaD 04-15-2007 04:42 PM

And you need the master tracks for each song.

Blitz 04-15-2007 11:42 PM

PS2 should get like 20 extra songs to make up for no online :shifty:

Funky Fly 04-16-2007 12:05 AM

Yeah, dunno if they could fit it on the disc.

Guitar Hero III will add online multiplayer, wireless
Next incarnation of the popular music game franchise will feature both co-operative and competitive online modes, and wireless guitar controllers.
By Emma Boyes, GameSpot UK
Posted Apr 16, 2007 8:35 am PT

On board a specially designed Guitar Hero rock bus in London today, RedOctane president and founder Kai Huang, confirmed details about the third instalment of the Guitar Hero game to GameSpot.

Firstly, Huang announced the game's platforms--as rumoured, it will indeed be coming to the Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 2, arriving in stores just before the end of year holidays. There will also be a DS version of the series, which will arrive "early next year."

The latest game will also boast new wireless controllers "so that fans can finally rock out in their living room and jump off their couches and do all that crazy rock star stuff." There will also be a variety of colours and a new design for the guitar controllers, along with some higher end options made to look and feel more like real guitars.

Like developer Harmonix's recently announced Rock Band, Guitar Hero III will also feature strong online elements. There will be both co-operative and competitive online modes, along with extra downloadable content.

Huang commented, "We've got a lot of songs and artists still that we would love to have, in particular, we've been trying to get Metallica, AC/DC, and Led Zeppelin, so hopefully sometime in the near future, my wish, and everybody's wish will come true and we can get some of their music in the game."

For more about Guitar Hero III, check out GameSpot's full interview with RedOctane founder and president Kai Huang here.

Sorry, can't stop looking at shit like this from a programmer's perspective. So save up and get a next gen system.

The new news is sexy, though. They should give up on Metallica, though. Those money grubbers are gonna end up demanding more money for the licensing of one song than the game will generate in profits as a whole.

Extreme Angle 04-16-2007 02:17 PM

Create a Track
That would be amazing, import your song into the game name it, then sort out all of the stuff yourself, as i've never played GH before I wouldn't know how hard it would be to do it...
Planned on getting GH2 but i'd rather just wait till GH3 now...

PapaGeorgio 04-16-2007 04:43 PM

You should get Guitar Hero one, has the best songs in my opinion. Plus it's much more diverse, has something for everyone. Seemed like GH2 they got some guy who lives in a basement and plays guitar all day to pick the track list. While there are some good songs, just wasn't my type of music for the most part.

Kapoutman 04-16-2007 10:40 PM

If you've played "Frets on Fire" for PC, you'll notice the option to create your own songs. It's possible, but you do have to sort everything yourself. So I can't be bothered with it.

Innovator 04-17-2007 09:16 PM

cmon Stairway

KingofOldSchool 04-18-2007 03:25 PM

If they can get some Who and Hendrix on here, I'll be happy.

Oh and maybe another Pearl Jam song just because I'm a mindless fan who thinks they've got a lot of good Guitar Hero worthy songs too.

chrisat928 04-27-2007 06:07 AM

Fozzy should be in the game.

That alone they could probably do.

That combined with the fact that you need to be able to add or subtract the guitars as you play right or wrong (And bass/riddem in multiplayer)...Yeah, never happen. Unless they add in a potentially complicated interface (Even things like Freetar HEro are dodgy)

As soon as guitar hero hits PS3, they NEED to do downloadable tracks. It could work like itunes have a massive guitar hero library of songs.

Extreme Angle 04-28-2007 08:21 AM

360 already has that

Kane Knight 04-28-2007 09:56 AM

Notice in the article they say that Neversoft was still working on the timing, so it might not be the tester's fault.

Disturbed316 05-31-2007 05:09 PM

KingofOldSchool 06-02-2007 12:18 AM

It surprises me that after two Guitar Heros, that The Who have yet to be put on the game. I mean The Who is one of the biggest ad whores of all time so their lack of inclusion in the game as of yet is baffling.

Kane Knight 06-02-2007 12:31 AM

More importantly, Pete Townshend is, and he's the author behind most of the big songs.

Plus, I mean, Townshend's responsible for an iconic guitar style, even if most of his songs aren't shred-style or whatever.

Kane Knight 06-02-2007 12:36 AM

It's worth noting that a lot of the bands on these games have Boston ties, even if theyr'e not from Boston. I mean, people like Bowie might as well be Bostonian. Even Queen was hugely influential in Boston, and still are (Though their popularity has waned).

The Who is more a West Coast deal, and so they may be a lower priority. I mean, they're certainly not as essential to draw in the pop crowd as Nirvana or Incubus, and they're not as essential to the guitar heads as Skynnyrd....So it's easy to see them slipping through the cracks.

Disturbed316 06-06-2007 10:44 AM

Wow, IGN has some vids of battle mode, I'm really not liking it at all.

Extreme Angle 06-13-2007 02:41 AM

Wll this work with the gibson xplorer dya think?
Don't really fancy paying £70 again, rather just buy the game...

Disturbed316 06-13-2007 08:08 AM

Yes it will.

Kalyx triaD 06-13-2007 09:09 AM

Speaking of that, its been said that older Guitar Hero controllers may work on Rock Band as well as GH3 even though they're being cooked in two different houses. In a classy gesture Harmonix stated that they'd make Rock Band guitars work with GH3 if Neversoft simply asked. That would be cool cross-compatibility.

Disturbed316 06-13-2007 10:00 AM

I heard that they said the GH guitars would be like a 3rd party controller, it will still work with Rock Band, but obviously to really you the best out of the game you need to get the stuff that comes with it.

Kalyx triaD 06-13-2007 04:13 PM

They have said that the Rock Band guitars will do... stuff the current GH guitars can't do.

Though the note placement is off and the new Battle Mode is stupid (cute but stupid), Slash endorses the game and he has a track in there. Can't be that bad. I'd like it on its own merit.

I was talking to my friend yesterday about how Neversoft could stay afloat with Rock Band destined to kick it's ass. They should run with the idea of specialized soundtracks; a 70's game, a Nintendo themes game for Wii, a TV themes, a movie themes, exclusive remix soundtrack to old songs...

This way the Guitar Hero series could offer something different from what Rock Band. "Playing music" is no longer a holy shit experience and now they need to step up to survive.

Just listened to Through fire and flames, and I believe it will make Jordan look like the tutorial excercises in terms of difficulty.

Blitz 07-28-2007 02:26 AM

Go to Youtube and check out some of the Through The Fir And Flames custom vids people have made. And the guys from Scorehero.com (who got the exclusive on this) reported that it was way tougher than Jordan. Insane guitar plus it's like 8 minutes I think.

Shaggy 07-28-2007 10:28 AM

Yea...Im actually a huge Dragonforce fan and love the song. Their is actually two different version of the song. One version is about 8 minutes long while another one is about 2 minutes shorter with a huge ass guitar solo taken out.

I read they will use a customized version for the game so Im guessing it will be the shorter one perhaps. Or maybe they will add stuff...they did add in that solo part at the very end of Holy Diver for GH 80s.

Kane Knight 07-29-2007 12:36 PM
