Best Over-Sell

These take some beating.

Where's the one where Shane oversold the Stunner and flew over the top rope?

311 04-11-2007 10:22 AM

I love the Scott Hall one. :P

I'm not sure if it's an oversell, but I remember RVD giving Dreamer a sick piledriver.

Theo Dious 04-11-2007 10:24 AM

I can't find it on YouTube, but I have the World's Greatest Managers DVD with a clip of Bobby Heenan in AWA overselling a punch to the face (a second late) by doing a sort of sideways flying cartwheel across the ring.

Theo Dious 04-11-2007 10:24 AM

Oh and BTW that is how a stunner SHOULD be sold. :y:

The MAC 04-11-2007 10:43 AM

This is about over selling. Not botching.

Rock selling the Stunner is always rofl

tucsonspeed6 04-11-2007 11:08 AM

Remember when Linda McMahon oversold the stunner? :shifty:

Londoner 04-11-2007 11:22 AM

RVD when he does the frogsplash.

Rammsteinmad 04-11-2007 01:14 PM

That Michaels one is fucking priceless. That has got to be the best one. And when he oversold the Big Boot as well.

Theo Dious 04-11-2007 01:22 PM

I got the feeling that Michaels was overselling all of Hogan's offense just to make him look like an ass.

It was the other way around. It was sick though.

Jeritron 04-11-2007 02:19 PM

The best oversell of all time is The Rock selling the last Stone Cold stunner at Wrestlemania 15. Priceless. Thought of it immediately when I saw this thread title.

Crossrine 04-11-2007 02:41 PM

D-von Dudley oversold alot of chair shots etc in ECW. Check it out if you can find it on youtube.

Rammsteinmad 04-11-2007 02:49 PM

Yeah, he'd stand there and slowly collapse and then have spasms or summit.

I'm gonna have to go with Razor...

Xero 04-11-2007 05:04 PM

Rock did a similar sell when Farooq gave him a Piledriver on the ramp.

Rock always sells the Stunner awesomely. My favorite is the one from WM15 where he sort of rolled head-over-feet.

Overselling is good, but what about comical underselling? You know so much where it is hilarious? I think Owen was the master at that.

BigDaddyCool 04-11-2007 05:21 PM

Owen is probably no-selling Sheik's camel cluth in heaven right now, and Davey Boy Smith is laughing his ass off at it.

He was made to job to a talentless old man at the second biggest show of the year. Hogan has made an absolute joke out of himself; all Michaels did was provide a punchline we can actually LAUGH at.

And? Last i checked "doing the job" is part of the business. He could have declined to go into the angle with hogan, with the amount of times michaels has been clamped to vince's balls over the last lot of years i sure he coulda got out of it if he had wanted. But nope, instead of putting on a match he puts on a farce, who suffers? The people who paid to watch it, while Michaels ego gets another stroke.

Xero 04-12-2007 11:22 AM

That's exactly what a Hogan match always is anyway, a bunch of over-selling because Hogan can't do shit.

Funny ive been watching wrestling for 20+ years and seen an assload of hogan matches and ive yet to see any with that amount of overselling.

Michaels = unprofessional little crybaby. He needs to stop throwing his fucking rattle out of his pram and grow a pair of balls instead of crying like a whore getting it up the ass from a donkey.

Xero 04-12-2007 11:27 AM

So what, you think it would have been BETTER if Michaels just laid there for ten minutes after every move?

Obviously not, but it would have been beter if he'd at least sold the moves realistically without the added dramatics of flipping for somthing as simple as a head being hit into a padded turnbuckle. Ive never seen anyone sell a boot by falling down getting back up twirling around again and falling down. And like i said anyone else would have received some form of punishment for it, so michaels can toss his rattle out of his pram and get away with it.

Xero 04-12-2007 11:35 AM

Shawn put up a number of ideas that would all have had Hogan going over at SummerSlam. One including him beating Hogan in a completely dirty finish, with Hogan getting the revenge win at SS. What irritates me, and what irritated Michaels, was that the entire thing HAD to be done Hogan's way from the get-go, which oh just happened to be the way that made him look the best.

Yeah, and if he'd have done that you'd just have more ammo to call him a crybaby.

A) All of Hogan's matches since his loss to Lesnar back in '02 have been farces.
B) It seems to me that a lot of people enjoyed the match BECAUSE of Shawn's performance. His overselling isn't going to hurt marks, who are more likely to think "OMGLOOK HOW GR8 HOGAN STILL IZ!" and the overselling amuses a large part of the IWC.

And because that info was apparently floating about online it MUST be correct like everything else on the internet? All we'll ever know is how the match that took place panned out, unless michaels talks about it in a shoot interview. And even then michaels is not exactly immune to talking complete bollocks even with his new found faith.

So all backstage information we recieve is a non-issue in these arguments unless we have personal confirmation from the people involved? That would eliminate most if not all of the discussions on the internet.

Backstage info isn't always accurate. I just doubt the info would go into detail like how the matches would pan out and in what way they'd be won. If they did brock would not be pleased. :)

Wins or losses don't mean dick in terms of a conventional sense like baseball or football, but they do mean something. If you lose every night you're Brooklyn Brawler. If you win every match you're Bill Goldberg. It has to do with kayfabe and fan perception, and your level of push. Which reflects how well you are able to get over and thus how you're paid. It's also a level of respect and value from the company.
If they didn't matter, nobody would care if Taker's win streak is snapped or no, nor would they be bitching their heads off when someone gets "jobbed out" on television, or the opposite when Triple H wins.
It matters in a way, not comparable to legitimate sporting events, but in a business and entertainment sense.

With that being said, HBK should have won the match. Hogan didn't need it and wasn't still on the roster and working future programs. HBK was a company guy for years and years despite what you say about his backstage antics, he was a company guy. Hogan gets his way despite being a cancer, a sneak and a lunatic and being gone all those years while Shawn was busting his ass to be the only draw and credible star on the goddamn roster. Not to mention it does nothing for Hogan's career or legacy, and Shawn has to go forward with his role as a top guy and instrument for putting young guys over effective the next night on Raw.

Wins matter.

And secondly, yeah, you're right. It doesn't seem as bad when you watch the whole match.

311 04-12-2007 01:45 PM

Also, Michaels over-selling has always entertained me. See HHH/HBK versus LOD from the Monday Night War dvd. Maybe technically not alot of over-selling, but a bit more over-the-top than normal.

Just in reference to point b...I wonder how willingly you'd do what your boss had told you if you knew that in reality it was a fellow employee who was pulling the strings.

A fellow employee that only comes to work once a year and who no-doubt would earn more from this one show than you would.

Besides he did what his boss told him. He went out there and lay down for Hogan.

I think HBK was well within his rights to play around a little.

i doubt very much that i'd NOT be pissed. ;)

He didn't miss it, he chopped Carlito in the head.

Now see, if Scotty 2 Hotty had finished the Worm like THAT, it would have been awesome.

Incidentally, on the subject of oversells, I remember Jeff Jarrett doing a double-backflip sort of deal selling a Chuck Norris kick at the Undertaker/Yokozuna casket rematch. Pretty wild.

He wasn't selling it. He was stiffed and that's what happens when the roundhouse connects

Theo Dious 04-16-2007 11:38 AM

That couldn't have been a stiff. Everybody knows that when Chuck Norris roundhouses you, you die so hard you end up never having existed. :shifty:

Jeritron 04-16-2007 11:40 AM

Well the wind from the kick must have done that, because I can ensure you the reaction was legitimate.

Chuck Norris was taking it easy on him. In reality Chuck meant to ask him nicely to get out of the ring, but somehow it turned into a roundhouse kick from Chuck Norris. Jeff is lucky he's still alive today.

Chuck Norris to face Jarret in a Boots Made For Walking Match? Slammiversary Spoilers.Backstage Morale High. Russo notes/Samoa Joe upset? Find out more! Norris Nude PICS!!!!

Theo Dious 04-16-2007 11:59 AM

Chuck needs to sue the Undertaker for gimmick infringement. Taker since WMXX has been pretty much Chuck Norris as he was that night.

Theo Dious 04-16-2007 12:00 PM

Oh and incidentally, speaking of overselling, Vince McMahon was the biggest oversell commentator on the planet.
