"Smackdown" blamed for Virginia Tech tragedy?!?

In an AP story on Cho Seung-Hui, the student who perpetrated the massacre at Virginia Tech University, he was described as being a loner who spent time on his computer and watching TV, noting he watched Friday night wrestling. The article said, "He (roommate Karan Grewal) said Cho usually worked alone on his computer and watched TV, including Friday night wrestling. He was always alone _ in the dining hall, watching television, working out with weights in the gym. He rarely spoke to anyone." Also, MSNBC's 'Hardball with Chris Matthews' mentioned this fact on today's show.

What do you guys (and girls) think about "Friday night wrestling" be brought into this? I think it's completely ridiculous.

Blitz 04-18-2007 11:26 PM

Just another thing for the media to blame.

thedamndest 04-18-2007 11:28 PM

Why not blame weightlifting? His fitness probably facilitate the ease with which he was able to move around and hit hit targets.

El Fangel 04-18-2007 11:30 PM

So what will happen when the media has nothing left to blame?

NoJabbaNoBogRoll 04-18-2007 11:34 PM

I blame Teddy Long.

Skippord 04-18-2007 11:48 PM

HOLLA HOLLA HOLLA

*gunshot*

lort 04-18-2007 11:51 PM

Doesn't sound like they are blaming it there.

It seems like they are, discreetly or indirectly.

BigDaddyCool 04-19-2007 12:04 AM

As always I must ask did his enviroment create him or did he create his enviroment? I mean to say did he get the way he is because media and being a loner or did he choose to be a loner and voilent media such as video games and wrestling were something of an outlet.

Also, lets look a facts he is 23 year old male. Wrestling top demographic is males in their late teens and early twenties. He fits well.
He worked out alone, so do lots of guys his age. They work out when they can, and lifting wieghts isn't really a team sport.
He spent time alone on his computer and watching tv. Again that is common.
Eating lunch alone sucks, but we was wierd and sounded like a tard.

Xero 04-19-2007 12:25 AM

He wore clothing, so surely we should blame the fashion industry.

It's those Queer Eye folk.

Marc the Smark 04-19-2007 12:29 AM

The fact that the AP story made a point to mention he watched wrestling makes it seem like they're blaming it on that. If the killer were not a grown man, I'd say *maybe* watching "Friday night wrestling" had something to do with it. But he was!

Xero 04-19-2007 12:31 AM

People are always looking for scapegoats. They never want to reflect upon themselves. It's always the video game industry, wrestling, a racy comic, whatever. It's never those in charge, whether they be parents or authority figures.

Someone needs to write a letter to McMahon telling him that bad booking is causing people to die.

What Would Kevin Do? 04-19-2007 01:03 AM

Maybe he posted here and took one of the "Shoot this man in the ass" jokes too seriously.

El Fangel 04-19-2007 01:13 AM

Like that scence in Braveheart where the guy gets shot in the ass?

SammyG 04-19-2007 01:17 AM

ROFL if they actually are gonna blame smackdown.

El Fangel 04-19-2007 01:20 AM

Let me guess, was it Jimmy Wang Yang and the way he is booked that set him off?

SammyG 04-19-2007 01:24 AM

Probably Funaki's jobbing.

Funky Fly 04-19-2007 01:34 AM

It's not like he was out there delivering Celtic Crosses , Batista Bombs and Green Bay Plunges, now.

What Would Kevin Do? 04-19-2007 01:37 AM

Now I'm waiting for someone to go crazy, make homemade bombs, and dub them " Batista Bombs" before blowing up the whitehouse or something.

SammyG 04-19-2007 01:39 AM

If gang violence goes up, blame it on cryme tyme

El Fangel 04-19-2007 01:42 AM

If a gang of suburban white boys, who had everything handed to them go on a school shooting, blame Cena.

M-A-G 04-19-2007 01:56 AM

This is seriously retarded. We actually need to come up with a new word for this level of retardedness.

FourFifty 04-19-2007 02:01 AM

Unless he had worms crawling out of his mouth, or he killed an Irish midget, it's just a scape goat because god forbid we blame the guy who PULLED THE FUCKING TRIGGER!

St. Jimmy 04-19-2007 02:05 AM

He did this because of how terrible the booking was. I TOLD YOU, I TOLD YOU ALL.

Rammsteinmad 04-19-2007 02:23 AM

I read a lot of comics, so if I ever kill someone feel free to blame it on the Punisher. :y:

Vastardikai 04-19-2007 03:50 AM

I'd blame Reed Richards, because I hate the character.

I also hate the fact that I have to watch ANOTHER Fantastic Four Movie because it has a character in it that's much cooler than them (Silver Surfer.)

Damn it, Where's my AK? :shifty:

darkpower 04-19-2007 03:54 AM

How much do you want to bet the PTC will try again to say that the WWE is responsible? They have hated them for years and I bet they want a good reason to say that they got "good nature" and a legal backing (remember they got caught lying about pulling of sponsorship LAST time they went after them) just to get back at them for all of that. This would be a real interesting opportunity.

LOL

When the story first broke over here in the UK, we had the TV on in the office...I turned to one of the guys and said something along the lines of "I bet it's cos he watches wrestling, plays Doom and listens to Marilyn Manson"

I was being silly, the news report is being retarded!

Crossrine 04-19-2007 10:01 AM

Maybe if he tried to get in a crippler crossface, or a chokeslam or something off of Smackdown! it could be blamed. But I bet blame will be on games or his parents.

Mercury Bullet 04-19-2007 11:06 AM

It's going to come out that he dropkicked somebody right before he shot them.

Mercury Bullet 04-19-2007 11:07 AM

But, in unfortunate seriousness, music, movies, tv, and games all in general are going to get the blame once again.

Interesting how millions of people can listen to music, watch TV, and play games without killing somebody yet whenever there is an event like this we need to ban it all because it's the cause of all things evil in the world.

Mr. JL 04-19-2007 11:16 AM

This fucked up guy's roomate is probably set for life if he plays his cards right. A quick book entitled, "the VA Tech Killer was my roomate" and just describe how this guy was as a roomate/the things he'd do. Instant $$$ and will never have to go to school again.

I'm not saying it would be entirely ethical to profit from 33 dead people... but I'm betting the demand would be there.

Probably worldn't be too ethical but it doesn't mean it won't happen. I suppose you get donate half your profits to a charity or something and you'd still be rolling in dough, plus you'd wash your hands of negative publicity for profiting off of tragedy.

Jeritron 04-19-2007 12:47 PM

I don't think anyone's dumb enough to blame wrestling of all things in this, anyone who does will be scoffed at even by non-fans and the biggest critics and mockers of wrestling. Simply because its so irrelevant and pretty much absurd.

I could see them relating it to violence. But that's about as far as it goes.

Now if the Pillman gun incident or the "Bang 3:16" incident were around now then they'd have more than that. It doesn't make it legitimately relevant, but it's more relevant than generic violence.

Jeritron 04-19-2007 01:00 PM

Those two incidents are good points, but still yes I think anyone with a brain (fan or non-fan) won't take any kind of link or accusation of responsibility between a mass shooting and professional wrestling seriously.

You overestimate the mass of media and society.

There is very little, if any, link between pro wrestling...or video games...or movies, music, etc...and acts of violence. All those things are merely scapegoats to shift responsibility somewhere else.

Jeritron 04-19-2007 01:11 PM

Okay. And when did I say that?

Kane Knight 04-19-2007 01:21 PM

They mentioned he watched wrestling. OH MY GOD, WE'RE BEING PERSECUTED!

Isn't it possible that this was the example given to them, and they used it?

(Jeritron, that's your cue)

Jeritron 04-19-2007 01:24 PM

Well KK I can tell you one thing, if this kid believed such crazy things and acted on them AND watched wrestling, he certainly did not let reality stand in the way of things

Yes, it isn't just possible, it's the goddamn case. I specifically said nobody would actually take any link suggest seriously, nor make such an absurd claim with any shred of credibility. I also never once claimed to wrestling or wrestling fans being persecuted, and I'm not sure who did.

Well, I remember...Stone Cold(?) firing a gun to drop a net on someone who got away from him, and on TNA last week I saw where “Brother Runt” (Spike in WWE) got “tasered” with 5,000 volts of electricity from LAX because they wanted to “show” Team 3-D how “comfortable” 5,000 volts feels compared with 10,000 in the electrified cage, but those are the only two incidents I can recall, seems like maybe when they did the Cryme Tyme training promos for weeks before they came on the air, CT waved guns around occasionally (most likely, if at all the stick-up scene...)
