UFC 72 in Northern Ireland
.
|
Do you even watch UFC?
I might go if we get a crowd together for it. |
Now I've got money I'm tempted to get some cheap flights and go to this if I can find someone else to go with, oh, and then go out in Belfast too:y:

I see a lot of people bashing this card on the net, saying the only note-worthy fighter on the card is Rich. Fucking assholes.
Hope you guys have fun watching this one too, I am definetly not missing the next one coming to Texas. I should of went to Houston when I had a chance. |
The card looks weak because fighters refused to go to Belfast.
|
Do they think its like permanently Bloody Sunday there or somethng?
|
They watched Patriot Games too many times.
|
Danny Electiric has been waiting to you use the joke for the past 3 years now. Congrats DE on finally being able to use it.
Apparently this show is going to be on Spike TV like the Manchester show. So I'll take that. |

More like 6 years.. |
I haven't seen the card but someone told me Forrest Griffin is on there. Him and Rich Franklin would be worth £30 to go see.

Here is the card
Rich Franklin vs Martin Kampmann Forrest Griffin vs Hector Rameriz Tyson Griffin vs Clay Guida Jason McDonald vs Rory Singer Jake O'Brien vs Tom Murphy Ed Herman vs Scott Smith Eddie Sanchez vs Collin Robinson Marcus Davis vs TBA Dustin Hazelett vs TBA. |
Forest Griffin fighting?
|
Oh well.
The Odyssy is a pretty small arena anyway, it's weird they're coming to Belfast before London and other places in Britain/Europe. |
posted that at the same time?

London is in September. Not sure about the building yet but it's a definate for September.

My mate went to Cage Rage the other week when Bob Sapp no showed :) |
So did my mate. He could have went to UFC with me though so I laughed in his face.
Anyone who goes to any UFC I'm going to is more than welcome to tag along with my lot. |

As both he and I alluded to I'm almost certain its because they're completely ignorant to whats going on in Northern Ireland, and likely what has gone on there since the start of the Troubles anyway.

Some of them probably have delusions of grandeur beyond America too
|
Lol look at all you bashing UFC fighters, and have no idea why some of them didnt want to go to Ireland. Fuck off. Be happy they are giving your country a go around to begin with.
|
Ok... :wtf:
2 people isn't "all of you" and we are not in any way bashing them. And I don't think it's up to the fighters which country they give a "go around". Are you like UFC's Brock Lesnar or something? |

This is in fact gonna be on PPV and not on Spike for Americans.

I'm going to give the UFC fighters the benifit of the doubt and say that they didn't want to go to Belfast because of the big time change which could cause problems when it comes to how the fight if they are jetlagged. The obvious remedy for that would be to show up to Belfast a few days in advance but mixed martial artists are creatures of habit and they probably would rather be at theire usual gym training. If they don't want to go because they think they'd be in danger, that's pretty stupid. Even if Belfast were a warzone they'd protect athletes like crazy and they wouldn't be harmed. I've never been to Belfast or Ireland before so I don't know I'm sure it's a fine city.
As for the card, here are a few reasons to watch... --Dustin Hazelett is a pretty intresting guy with his submissions and stuff, his match probably won't air but if you like grappling he's intresting. --Ed Herman versus Scott Smith is going to be a war, hopefully they air this match. --Eddie "Cro Cop's Punching Bag at UFC 67" Sanchez will show that against mortal MMA fighters he's pretty good. --See how Jake O'Brien reacts in his first fight after upsetting Heath Herring. --Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis walking out to his fight in a kilt. --You get to see Jason "The TUF Killer" MacDonald kill another TUF alumni in Rory Singer. --Forrest Griffin trying to get back on the winning track. --Franklin/Okami is going to be a great fight, possibly the best fight of the year to this point. |

In all seriousness, I'd fear for my safety in New York more than I would in Belfast. |
Jet lag is a BS excuse, as Rob said Belfast is actually closer to the states than Manchester and London anyway.

I don't know the names for definate but I think Tito Ortiz was one of them. Can't say for sure so I'm not knocking anyone specific yet.
|
Yknow I would hazard a guess at Manchester actually being more dangerous than Belfast these days now that the troubles are long over

But if people don't go because they're afarid, like I said before, they're insane. |

However, I am saying in different words now, that I refuse to believe that multiple fighters did not want to go to Belfast because of the war. I down right refuse to believe that. Tito Ortiz, fine. I will believe that, because that dude has snubbed out anything he wants to for years now. He left UFC ages ago because of "contract Issue's" (aka, I am bitch and want more money) and constantly causes drama (the snub to Dana and the boxing match). Thats how that guy is. It would take some hard proof to change my mind about any other fighter. |
No I am not trying to be the Brock Lesnar of MMA  . I guess I just over-react to some post's I see because this is actually what I am trying to get into now. I have been training for 9 months at a gym in my town under Woody Fox. Its fucking really hard stuff. Especially when I first started, I was good and out of shape. I sat on my ass out of highschool, put on like 40 pounds, and got real lazy. I always watched UFC though, and had a bro that wrestled in high school, so I watched him do that and got into everything early. Just woke up one day and decided to give it a go. I didnt have really anything when I went into it, but I think I have actually started to come along well. My trainer is a Thai boxing coach, and a black belt in Bjj. Their is also an olympic qualified taekwondo instructor at the same place that teaches, so he comes and helps work kicks and standup with us. Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday for 3 hours a day. When/If I start competing that goes to 5 times a week. I havent had a fight yet, but 3 other guys in my class have had fights, so I have watched my fair share.
Moral of all this I guess is, as another competitor (cant say fighter...yet), its hard for me to believe that someone would let that get in the way of what they do. I have enough brains to know that everything would be well in order and safe. |
Last comment. Card is starting to shape up well. I liked it before, but Okami and Franklin seem to be a better fight then Kampmann. I figure Franklin has his hands full with his switch of gameplans. I hope Forrest gets his win, another loss would not be good for him right now. Undercard seems solid enough.

And he came back, and got more money and more exposure and is an even bigger draw now. Anyone who wouldn't do this is an idiot. |

I can't imagine the idea of going to Belfast to fight would scare any of them off...They would probably fight in Detroit, Baltimore, or Washington DC, all of which I am sure are FAR more dangerous than Belfast.

Strong rumour now is that UFC signed Shogun Rua and he is debuting on this show.

Someone who went to the show, tell up about it...
I saw Griffin and Franklin won.. Anything eles happen?? |
The results make me want to download this. Seemed like a pretty good show minus the main event.
|
Couldn't get tix :(
|
That sucks. I really feel for you.
|
Just watched it, was a decent card.
|
This show was great and worth buying just for the Tyson vs. Clay fight alone.

Was there and had a great time. Overall it wasn't the best UFC event i've seen, nowhere near some of them in truth, but the Griffin / Guida fight alone made the money i shelled out worth it. Those two fellas tore into eachother for the entire 15 minutes and if they, the UFC, are coming back our way they should bring them two back with them for the rematch!
Rob, read an interview with Shogun today and he pretty much confirmed he was supposed to fight on the card but things just didn't work out. Shame. Would have been great to see him in the flesh. |
