Spring cleaning has begun. The Con Man is gone.
World Wrestling Entertainment announced the release of Rob Conway this afternoon. Conway was last seen appearing on Ohio Valley Wrestling's 400th TV episode, wrestling CM Punk. He was "fired" from an on camera role by Vince McMahon last January on Monday Night Raw, but had since teamed with Sylvan Grenier in dark matches.
Conway had been on the main WWE roster since 2000. As a member of the La Resistance tag team, Conway held the WWE Tag Team championships on three occasions. An attempt to package him as a singles star was never really sustained by the company. From PWInsider So it's Conway and Scorpio so far. |
Wow, he was with the company for 7 years???
Whatever... |
Just look at me now
Moved to Velocity Now it's the unemployment line for me.... |
Nice.

I liked Conway...this blows...granted I also didnt know that he was still with the company.
|
I didn't read the thread title right and thought it said Cor Von was gone. Which wouldn't make any sence.
|
OMG CONWAY WAZ THE BEXT EVARZ WWE SUX HE SHOLD HAV GONE 2 SMACKWODN AN BEN CHAMP CAUS HE RULZ AND HE WILL MAKE TNA THE BEST COMAPNY IN RESLING AND GO 2 HELL VINCE MCMANN
|
And actually, yeah for a second I also thought we were talking about Cor Von. Thought Conway got fired after he was fired on-camera.
|
Meh

Much like Scorpio, this is a lot of wasted talent, so it is stupid on the WWE's behalf of not using it to maximum capacity. This release is a good thing, in my opinion, however.
Rob Conway is not going to have trouble finding employment. He was a top guy in OVW under Jim Cornette, and with Cornette now in TNA, you have to believe that some strings will be pulled, and Conway will eventually find his way into the company. Conway could also viably go to Ring of Honor. They apparently showed interest in Doug Basham when he was released, so I can't see why they wouldn't go after Conway, who is another great wrestler from OVW's glory days. He'll have some time shedding the WWE association, but after a few great matches, people will probably accept him as the guy with potential, again. |
Alienoid, do you just love the flavor of vanilla?
|
I thought he was realeased a long time ago.
|
Dammit. This sucks.
He had the potential to go far. And had some good theme music too. |

Seriously, Rob Conway may not have lit the world on fire in WWE, but he's a talented guy. He can wrestle, he's capable on the mic. He never really got the chance he deserved in the WWE. I'm not saying he could have been the next Rock, or anything, but he was solid on all counts, and got put in two gimmicks which are re-used over and over again. Playing an evil foreigner (despite not being foreign) and becoming a narcissist is not going to set the world on fire. |
Welcome to TNA Buff Bagwell 2.0!
|
So when do you think he'll show up in TNA?
How long after that do you think he'll get the title? |

The Dudleys haven't even won the NWA tag titles after almost two years of being there.
|
They're the current champions...
|
Love that answer that Alienoid gave in response to BDC's strange ass question.
But while I don't like it (the release, he was constantly on RAW as far as I can remember. Seriously, can't recall them moving him even briefly, so they couldn't just use him on SD or ECW?), makes some sense to just get rid of the people you're not going to use for anything other than retarded gimmicks. Maybe TNA or ROH will get him and do something with him. Hopefully. He's got the work ethic to work with what a company gives him (he showed that with the WWE), and he certainly got some talent. |

Bobby Lashley is shit on the mic and look where he is.

ya we know this. but it did take them almost two years to get them. |

True but lashley is huge and we all know mchmahon has a fetish for huge guys. |

The thing is, no matter how standout or generic, Alienoid uses the same 4 or 5 generic bits of praise, none of them really meaningful. Yeha, he's soilid on the mic and solid in the ring. Him and the majority of people currently cashing a check. I mean, That works for everyone from Doug and Danny BAsham (And you really don't get much more unspectacular and vanilla) to RVD, Cena, and Taker. God, there's only a few people in WWE who aren't solid. By those standards, which are prety mediocre, almost everyone should be guaranteed a job for life. Conway would never be ME material, but I think he managed to do quite a bit with a gaytarded gimmick, nd he could probably at least make it to niche status. Don't blame Conway for Alienoid's shortcomings. |

And don't PM me retarded questions. |
Conway was bland. Trust me, no one is going to tune into HeAT and wonder where Conway is. Quite frankly, I hope to never see him again, not that he was so terrible, just that he was so nothing. He could move in the ring, work the stick, and draw decent heat. Whatever, pretty much every pro can. He had next to no charisma, and personally I'm tired of this "He may not be the next Rock, Austin, blah blah blah" crap. If they're not going to amount to something...why keep them on? I'm sure they get pay increases every so often, so if they really won't amount to being a money maker, why keep giving him the pay ups when you could go walk into any indy and find at least one guy who's just as good, willing to do the work for half as much, and who knows, may possibly actually BECOME something. WWE is overflowing with guys who aren't terrible but don't have that special something, and let me tell you something, after a while of beige, it becomes terrible. This isn't to say Conway sucks, just that I'm sick and tired of being force fed random guys who as "not terrible" as they may be, are nothing more than filler to get to the handful of guys who are worth a damn, but up until recently have been stretched apart by 2 companies, one of which has three different brands. Wrestling sucks today because fans have grown tired of putting up with "no terrible" to deal with the 4 or 5 guys per show who are actually "really good."
|
I didn't like him.
Can't believe he'd been there that long, though looking back, I can. |
And yet somehow nobody cares.

Conway is above solid. I won't make a list of all the guys he is better than (in my opinion), but my point was that he never got a good chance to utilise his abilities in WWE. He can wrestle better than most of the guys employed by the WWE, so why was he one of the first released? They had nothing for him, true, but that's why I wrote storylines for guys, to prove how fucking easy it is to change that. Having nothing for a guy is not an excuse for not thinking of something. KK Mode: Don't worry, KK only ever uses the same 4 or 5 levels to describe a wrestler's position on the card. You have to take him lightly. I agree with him, but he's the one who's wrong. Quote:

Come on. You're so full of shit it's borderline tragic. You always complain I'm "spinning" shit because I don't immediately agree with you. Guess what? They're different arguments. Mostly because I didn't describe them in vanilla terms. Something, you'll note, I called you on, and was what BDC used to indicate he was right. Quote:
I don't know what you mean! This is too complicated for me! My point was that you described all but a handful of people on the roster with those terms. You're too stupid to see that, because you can't understand that it's possible to actually have more than your linear, tiny mindset or the mindset of the opposition. In other words, you're stupid. You're calling me a dickhead because my opinion is option 3: I still don't think he's vanilla, but your argument is stupid and applies to EVERYONE. Which in and of itself, is vanilla. Quote:
You complain about flip-flopping because you're too busy getting offended to actually try thinking. You know, critical thinking and reasoning. Heard of them? Probably not. Would have made half your K3 spazz out moot. But why think critically when you can whine? Quote:
I mean, it's nice to hide behind that shit, if you're a three year old. I love the "you're retarded because I've made up off the wall arguments and because I'm flipping out at things I'm too stupid to understand." Yes, Alienoid. You can't understand it, which makes the OTHER guy retarded. You make a strawman, so the other guy is retarded. Did mommy forget to tie your mittens on today or something? Poor baby. |
Ahh, Hell. I forget. When dealing with stupid people, keep your answers short, so they stand a chance of understanding them.
My stance: BDC is wrong. Alienoid is wrong. Alienoid is saying that what I said is what he meant, but he poorly communicated that, and thinks I'm somehow at fault for being able to actually communicate words and feelings. Alienoid's dumb. |
Fuck, i wonder how long Alienoids reply will be.
Anyhow, who's next I wonder? Couldn't give a shit about Conway. |

For some reason I imagined you typing that pulling faces like Eric Bogosian did in Scrubs. My God, you're such a retard. Superior wrestling skills does not a guy vanilla. I'm pretty sure vanilla translates to "bland," doesn't it? The norm? My point was Conway is above the norm. If you claim he isn't vanilla, then logically you must agree with me? There is no option three, turdbag. Either he was bland or below that level, deserving of release, or he was above it. Make up your fucking mind. Just a note out to everyone, Kane Knight has ruled, from now on saying a guy had great wrestling skills is not worthy of mention when pointing out what makes him worthy of employment. I want to hear what criteria he has set for them now. He said they don't need to cure cancer? Is eradicating polio too much to ask? And you do spin shit. It's ironic you're calling me the straw man in all of this. You're probably too far retracted into your own ego to look at what you posted and realised that the issue isn't me whining, it's you being a cock. Explain to me how being a better wrestler than most makes a guy vanilla. How being better on the mic than most makes a guy vanilla. If you can do that I'll stop the dick shit. But I bet you can't without hiding behind your usual "I'm too smart, you're too stupid to get it," bullshit. Go lead the world if you're so smart. Dude, you're just a guy who hides behind evasive argument techniques. |
BOARD MEMBERS ARGUE BECAUSE THE DINOSAURS ATE GRASS! YOU'RE WELCOME!

 at Alienoid hiding behind Strawmen again.
Man, for someone who hates "spin," you sure love to "twist" things. Ah well. Totally out of touch with reality, man. You're a giant spazz. |
Quote:
My stance: Kane Knight thinks he knows all about everything. What KK said is that Conway put up with some shit gimmicks, so he had some value. What I said is that Conway was a great wrestler, great on the mic, put up with some shit gimmicks, thus he had some value. Same argument, no? Not according to KK. I called him out on it for being a slimey cunt, and blaming me for Rob Conway's portrayal in the WWE. KK is a retard playing with a dictionary he knows nothing about. |
It wasn't evasive. You're just too stupid to do things like think things through logically.

Do you even know what a strawman is? Considering last time you complained about my use of the phrase, you didn't.
And no, that's not what I said. Do you really have to lie, to make up my argument in order to establish some sort of argument of your own? God. I knew you were an idiot, but you always struck me as an honest tard. Now all it seems you do is lie about what I said. |

So who is putting up straw men, again? And seeing as how your textbook of tired old defensive cliches is now pretty much public knowledge, your next move is predictable: "Prove that I said that. I don't recall it." It was in the thread about RVD not renewing his contract. You said it. |
Quote:
I think there may have been a miscommunication between us. You might have assumed I was saying Conway was only a C-level wrestler, which is not what I meant. When I said "Conway is solid," it was underplaying that he was good, because whenever I say a guy is good, cocks like you tear in to me for overrating them. Now if that's the case, I apologise for getting aggressive towards you for that (admittedly still dickish) comment, but I will still get the private satisfaction of realising that you couldn't read the subtext of what I said, yet then you call for me to do it for you. |
"Conway never struck me as Vanilla so much as a guy who was stuck in lame ass gimmick after another."
Just proves how fucking stupid you are. That doesn't actually prove what you said, that he was good BECAUSE he was stuck in bad gimmicks. Oh wait, that's probably not what you meant. You just said it several times. Yeah, whatever. |

Quote:
How does being a great talent who only got a chance to showcase himself under shit gimmicks make a guy bland? I can understand that it wouldn't necessarily make a guy interesting, but it doesn't make him bland (which is what a straw man argument is). You know what the funniest thing about this is: I didn't even argue with BDC that the guy was bland. I just said he could have done more and done it well. I'm still trying to work out where you got this me vs. blandness thing from. I'm just arguing against you for being a stupid cock pretty much :) |
Quote:
Find me one statement I made about Conway being good because he was put in bad gimmicks. You might be able to find some where I said he wasn't bland, but that's because you're such an agitating cunt, and I just like arguing with you. Most of the time it's like arguing with a ghost, though. Your points don't even add up to anything. It's always "You're too stupid, this. You disagree with me hence you're wrong, that." I take it you have an interest in debating. Do you actually win? Because you must come off like a condescending cunt who's arguments are always paper thin and based on merely your surety of them. I'm going to put down my hypothesis just once more for you: Rob Conway could have been more than just a bland narcissist character, or a bland French sympathiser. He has great wrestling skills and good promo skills. Argue that how you will. I'm beginning to think you can't. |
By the way:
I didn't misunderstand you, and I didn't assume you thought he was C-Level. The intent was always specifically that what you said could be applied to almost everyone. Don't try and push the blame on me here. Nor was it to agree with BDC and change sides. These are your own constructs, not mine. |
Quote:
What you said could be applied to almost anyone, as well. I still maintain that there are only a number of ways you can describe a guy's ability. |
By the way, this is where you officially lost the argument:

Rob Conway also had some of the worst entrance music of all time.

Quote:
Seriously, though, I think it was pretty damn stupid of them to cancel his face turn. When he just got fed up and started challenging anyone and doing whatever it took to win, Conway could have been a somewhat noticeable member of the roster. |
I never really cared much for him so whatever.
I really liked La Resistance. But as "the con man" I never really became interested. |
Good. He wasn't doing squat anyway.
|
I never liked, in anything he did.

My sentiments exactly. He can now go to TNA or ROH and do something. |
FourFifty, my favourite thing about your post is that Vince McMahon is currently listed in the ECW section.
But no, they won't release the entire ECW roster. I'm pretty sure they'd keep someone with such amazing potential as Snitsky. |
:( Snitsky's taking alot of shit lately.

They should put him in a program, or something. |
Put him in a program with who? Almost everybody's busy.

Oh, wait a minute, I take that back. I didn't know they were married. |

I can't believe you guys are still discussing the departure of Rob Conway!
And Alienoid and KK, I've booked you into a relationship councellor, can you make Saturday at 1:00PM? |
You guys stop derailing the topic. Just agree to disagree.

But I only remember him coming to the main roster in '03...
