Spooky things in Wrestling

Or that sends a shiver down your spine.

Was watching the Lesnar/Eddie title match from No Way Out 2004 and when Brock is shouting 'Die Eddie Die' and Michael Cole is repeating what Brock is saying I was just a bit taken aback.

Have there been any moments in wrestling when after looking back on them, there is and added dimension?

Arnold HamNegger 06-08-2007 12:07 PM

Yeah, I can't remember exactly what JBL says on the commentary part of the ONS DVD during the Eddie/Benoit match, but it's in reference to him dying.

I remember watching that shortly after Eddie's death and getting goosebumps. Just erie.

Mr. JL 06-08-2007 12:19 PM

I remember at One Night Stand Mike Awesome versus Masato Tanaka. Joey Styles was calling the match and said, "Mike Awesome with a suicide dive over the top rope! And its a shame he didn't succeed in taking his own life".

A year or so later Mike Awesome takes his own life.

RVDmark 06-08-2007 01:26 PM

Trips tore his 2nd quad in the same arena that owen died in, thus ending DX2 for good.

That's the first one that immediately came to mind. I was watching that because Tanaka's apparently coming down here in August so I went back to watch one of his old matches. As soon as I heard that line, I felt sick.

KingofOldSchool 06-08-2007 01:36 PM

The Undertaker coming back from the dead.

Awesome killed himself? How?

He Awesomely hung himself.

Too soon?

Maybe he was masturbating and doing that one thing where you strangle yourself while you cum or something.

RP 06-08-2007 01:38 PM

The One knows

What Would Kevin Do? 06-08-2007 01:43 PM

That would be pretty Awesome.

What Would Kevin Do? 06-08-2007 01:43 PM

Errr, if you're into that sort of thing.

RVDmark 06-08-2007 01:46 PM

lol @WWKD

311 06-08-2007 01:46 PM

Suicide Dive off the top rope?

The Fugitive 06-08-2007 01:48 PM

Where did you read that?

Loose Cannon 06-08-2007 01:58 PM

There is a match with Adonis I watched a couple months back where the announcer was like "he looks like he's been in a car wreck" to Adonis. It might have been an East/West Connection match.

311 06-08-2007 02:00 PM

He hung himself, for those really wanting the answer. :y:

R.I.P. Awesome.

WTF I never heard that? Anyone know why he committed suicide?

I was watching One Night Stand 2005 just a few days ago funny enough, and thought Joey Styles was harsh by saying 'It's a shame he didn't succeed in taking his own life' And I had no idea he actually had killed himself since :(

Well, one can only speculate, but I would probably guess it's because he was working at a bank or insurance company dispite being Mike Awesome. :y:

NoRoolz 06-08-2007 03:10 PM

lol yeah could be that.

Nark Order 06-08-2007 03:23 PM

So does anybody actually believe that Mike Awesome was partly responsible for ECW going under? Cause I'm pretty sure ECW was fucked long before he even made his debut.

311 06-08-2007 03:26 PM

I don't, no. But if I were him, I'd probably regret that decision somewhere down the line. I mean, not his decision to jump...WCW could pay him, and pay him well, and you have to make the right decision for yourself. But, the way he made his decision was in poor form, imo. :y:

mrslackalack 06-08-2007 04:04 PM

''I dont want to wake up one day and hear that my good friend Eddie Gurrerro is found dead in a hotel room'' Dean Malenko on Eddies DVD.

mrslackalack 06-08-2007 04:06 PM

Also during Goldust/Pillman INY GZ Sept 97 the commentators were like will we ever see Pillman again in the WWF? By the next PPV, Pillman had passed away.

Xero 06-08-2007 04:09 PM

Eddie, on his last SmackDown!, saying that he'll be okay or whatever after the chairshots from Kennedy (I think it was after).

You fucking moron, Styles' gimmick at that point as that he was the anti-WWE guy.

Joey Styles legitimately did not like Mike Awesome for the way he left ECW for WCW in 1999. Mike was the ECW World Champion and knew how important he was to the company, and decided to take the bigger paycheck at the lowly WCW instead. Styles blamed Awesome as one of the factors for the subsequent fall of ECW. So he probably said those things at One Night Stand 2005 and truly meant them.

In Styles' defense, hindsight is 20/20. He didn't know Awesome was going to kill himself later.

Crossrine 06-08-2007 05:40 PM

I was shocked out of my mind when I read Bam Bam Bigelow died.

I'm sure it was in character, but I don't think that was the point he was trying to make. Styles alluded to suicide, and then Awesome ended up killing himself.

Mooияakeя™ 06-08-2007 09:15 PM

It's just a horrible co-incidence in all these matters.

I jsut read the history of the Von Erichs. That's spooky. It's like there's a curse on that family.

In this promo for Wrestlemania 20 on Foley's DVD, on the shot of Eddie Guerrero, the announcer says "One day...we will die"

Triple H tearing his quad 5 years to the day he returned.

The Kanyon incident (more in poor taste than anything)

Eddie and Pillman both dying in Minnesota in a hotel room.

Juan 06-08-2007 09:30 PM

Ric Flair's breasts.

KingofOldSchool 06-08-2007 09:39 PM

I saw an Edge promo last Friday saying that he was going to beat Batista at One Night Stand.

And then at One Night Stand, Edge defeated Batista.

It's like he knew what was going to happen before it happened.

The big mystery surronding Gino Hernandez's death. Some say OD, others say murder. The chilling part is that they said Gino ALWAYS locked his door all the time and when he was found dead the door was unlocked.

How exactly was Mike Awesome associated with WWE at One Night Stand 2005?

By "bigger paycheck" do you mean "paycheck". Financially ECW was so screwed that most of the roster weren't getting payed regularly by the end of the run. And Mike did stay longer than alot of other ECW stars.

Kane Knight 06-09-2007 11:08 AM

You know, that describes one of the papers I've written for. I can definitely feel for anyone who inadvertantly ended up working for free.

The Optimist 06-09-2007 11:22 AM

Yeah, after research: Awesome won the belt and wanted to go to WCW with it. Heyman got an injunction to stop that. Then got Tazz, who had already jumped ship to the WWE, to come back and take the title of off him. Tazz later lost the title to Tommy Dreamer.

mrslackalack 06-09-2007 11:40 AM

Yeah WCW had wanted Awesome to throw the ECW Title in the trash on Nitro.

Kane Knight 06-09-2007 12:49 PM

Good to know they were so creative as to do that.

Besides, wasn't the ECW title trash anyway? What significance would there have been?

Xero 06-09-2007 12:52 PM

Truthfully it probably would have helped ECW more than it hurt it. Being on a huge show, they're showing that they care enough about this tiny promotion so that they're willing to use the name in an angle.

More free promotion on a national scale.

mrslackalack 06-09-2007 01:27 PM

It seemed that the ECW TV Title was more important than the World Title.

Matches for the ECW TV Title were great. I mean off the top of my head all kinds of matches between Scorpio/Malenko, Malenko/Eddie, Eddie/Scorpio, Scorpio/Sabu, the great fatal 4-way between Douglas/Pitbull 2/Jericho/Scorpio, the Tazz/Bam Bam match was good, the the whole near 2 year reign of RVDs with all the great matches he had with countless guys. Right now the only ECW World Title Matches that I can think of that were great was Funk/Sabu Barbed Wire Match and the Tanaka/Awesome matches.

''Someone pointed out WCCW was on and I was on the tape, and it was a 6 man tag that I was referring, and I realized I was the only one alive in the ring'' WCCW ref David Manning on Heroes of World Class DVD.
