When Bobby Lashley was drafted to Raw, ECW was left without a champion. The ECW World Title picture, however, will begin to clear up this week on ECW on Sci Fi when Chris Benoit will face Elijah Burke, and CM Punk will battle Marcus Cor Von. The winners of these matches will move on to Vengeance: Night of Champions to compete for the ECW World Title.

Burke is the goods, and Beniot is amazing at putting guys over. Pretty simple.

Chris Benoit will put the guys over, all in due time. Benoit will have great matches with them over the new few months, while he serves as Champion. Then Elijah Burke or CM Punk will be given the ball to run with. These guys just need to work with someone like Benoit at the moment, they don't need to beat him.

ECW is doing better overall on viewership than SmackDown is.
Burke is over enough with the ECW audience where people would be fine
with putting the belt on him.

Personally Beniot could be better utilized to build up a mid card fued.
Let Beniot and Punk beat the shit out of each other, while Burke defends his title, and walks around like his shit doesn't stink.

Then eventually culminate an ECW title fued from the winner of the Punk/Beniot series.

I'm assuming they haven't done the CM Punk vs. Marcus Cor Von match yet. I think the smart thing to do would be to put CM Punk over with assist from Elijah Burke. It would be a bit of a shocker, and Burke can justify it by claiming that if he isn't going to be in the ECW World Title match, no one from the New Breed is going to be in the ECW World Title match. This wouldn't lead to a full face turn by Marcus, but rather just splits Burke and Cor Von, and gives both guys their own agenda. It will make the inevitable Fatal Fourway make more sense.
