Soul Calibur 4
http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/acti...eviews;title;3
Namco showed off a teaser trailer for Soul Calibur IV, the latest entry in its long-running weapon-based fighting series. The gameplay-light trailer featured a smattering of provocative text to tease the game's story, which appears to involve both the Soul Edge (seen in the original arcade game and its PlayStation conversion) and the Soul Calibur, the other powerful sword that's appeared in the series. The highlight of the short trailer was what appeared to be a trio of in-game character models for returning characters Ivy, Mitsurugi, and Nightmare. The text in the trailer hinted at an epic conflict that will find the fighters from the series facing off against evil, pugilistic forces. Beyond that, the only big news from the trailer is the game's 2008 release on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Because the trailer was short, our brief glimpse at the character models didn't offer much that hinted at gameplay, but we can say the characters looked shiny and quite upgraded from the PlayStation 2 game. Mitsurugi was sporting his familiar uniform and hairstyle, although they were much more detailed. Though Mitsurugi looked good, Ivy was the standout with her considerable assets being on ample display from various angles. For those concerned that the white-haired fighter was looking a little mannish in the recent entries of the series, she appears to be all femme and curvy, thanks to the detail provided by the new generation of consoles. One of the notable touches to the models was the level of detail on the clothing and accessories on the fighters. Ivy, in particular, was rocking some detailed stockings and accessories. Nightmare wasn't quite as provocative, but he looked like quite the bad a** with his buff and demonic elements given a high level of detail. The trailer didn't give us much to go by, but a release from Namco Bandai promised we can expect both returning and new characters, as well as a battle system with which they will fight it out. The release also offered the existence of interactive arenas and new gameplay modes in the new game, but it did not elaborate on those features. Outside of these details, there's not much to say about Soul Calibur IV until Namco Bandai releases more information in the coming months. |
This game and Tekken 6 will own. My two favorite fighters right now are Tekken 5 and Soul Calibur 3, so I loved hearing about T6 and SC4 within weeks of each other. Hopefully Tekken Dark Resurrection Online will give Namco the time and experience to sharpen their online features.
Also, they should bring the original Soul Edge and Soul Calibur arcade games to XBL. :y:
Keep the character creation mode in there, and expand on that. They could really outdo the WWE games in that respect of things.
Also, I just thought of this. There is something that the SC series has been lacking in: blood. I'm serlous here, if you swipe someone with a sword or a blade, you're going to cut them, so let's not only see the cuts, but how the characters react to them and what happens afterwards. Maybe they would fight differently, they would not be able to fight as effectively as they would be used to, or the battle would end abruptly because they would pass out from loss of blood or something. Let the blade hits count for more than just another hit in the combo meter. |
Namco will never go the blood route, or have long term effects from damage in SC. I miss Bushido Blade, but I like SC how it is.
Soul Blade would be great for XBLA. They could do like DOA and add recent characters in Soul Blade's classic visual style. |
SSSSSSSEXY
I'm kinda glad that this isn't a PS3 exclusive. As much as I'd like all 3 systems to be doing well (competition among the consoles = gamers win), Sony just doesn't seem to want me to buy their shit anymore. |
lol
"the game's story" Oh, where to begin? |
The origin of the Soul Edge and how it relates to Soul Calibur. You may also wanna bring up the three treasures and they involve Kilik and Xiangua.
Great googly moogly, triad.
I study what I play with. I can't stand when someone's in to something but can't explain it's history fictional or otherwise. Gotta be educated consumers.
now that... that is hot.
Definitely cannot wait for a release of that. And also see more vids and stuff. SC3 is my fav. game right now and I've been waiting for number 4 to see how they could possibly top SC3. |
looks pretty sharp

ROCK MAD. ROCK SMASH. |
lol Fignuts
I always wondered when they'd add Rock's adopted son Bongo. He's supposed to be old enough to fight and such. And I hope Amy gets more attention than, though I didn't play her updated form in the arcade re-release.
Is Spawn returning in it??? cuz i love him in the gayest way possible
It would've made sense that Spawn's moves be one of the Bonus Characters in SC3.
Online play confirmed, BTW. Yay.
A new trailer showing the fighting.

Badass. So projectiles are getting a bigger role in combat now. I wonder who that new kid was in the armor...
Looks great. I just hope they load it up with all the old moves they took out in Soul Calibur 3 and throw those in with some new ones in Soul Calibur 4.

I'm more concerned about balance tho. fkghkgfdhjkf Xianghua was insanely overpowered. |
I read in PSM that balance issues have been addressed.
They need to bring back weapon breaks.
Looks like Sigfried had some magic ice spell or something.
Crystals. He's down with crystals now...
New trailer out at CES.

Dear God, if Luke Skywalker and Darth Maul also are in this game by some twist of fate, I'm gonna cum. I dunno how else to say it.
Cum in your pants?
At least be able to create them.
I honestly ejaculated watching that video

With the game being online enabled, meet a few of my tools of destruction...

So is this game gonna be 60fps on both systems? Because I know a couple multiplatform games came at less fps on the the PS3.
Its a given on 360 and I think Namco could pull it out of PS3's ass.
Really can't wait till developers get a hold of how to utilize ps3's hardware better. All this research on multiplatform games I want is annoying.
It's a matter of shitty architecture and shittier dev kits on Sony's part. Once developers get more experience and more time with the newer better dev kits, I'm sure all the multiplatform games will become more equal in quality.

Release Date and New Gameplay Details:
Game drops July 29. Quote:

I can see how the new system works for someone like Sigfried, but what armor can say Ivy afford to shed?
I hear that Funky, she's already wearing close to nothing and we don't need a half nude fighter.

My roomate just got a PS3, so I'll be able to play both versions.
Two New (Bonus) Characters:
For the record, Bonus Characters are characters that popular anime and manga artist create for Namco. Some characters are established while others are completely new. In SC3, it was pretty obvious which were Bonus Characters without seeing what bracket they were selected from, but the jump in visuals make the new BCs look as great as the core and guest characters. Anyway, here's two new characters: http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/2...1165081no4.jpg http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d6...0861423691.jpg The second one, Shura, looks awesome. |
More Bonus Characters:
Also note that although these BCs may have some story that puts them in the Soul universe, like the Star Wars guys, try not to take them seriously. http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/ar...6021542353.jpg http://ps3media.ign.com/ps3/image/ar...6021522322.jpg |

sexxy

Have no idea who any of those bonus characters are.
I just... fuckin... named them.

Star Wars Character Gameplay:
Darth Vader, Exclusive to PS3 (for now) <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MAU4zhWW1wg&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MAU4zhWW1wg&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Yoda, Exclusive to 360 (for now) <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BhrM-jWvP50&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BhrM-jWvP50&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> I really wanna play with Vader, but even Skywalker can't make me choose PS3 in a multiplatform choice. Eventually it won't matter anyway. |

I could name Gordan Warblesmith from Albany, NY, but that doesn't mean you have any fuck idea who he is. |
Shura is the hot bitch with the katanas. Ashlotte is the robot girl. Setsuka is the blond with the umbrella/sword.
The left side of my brain just looked at the right side of my brain and said, "It's dark in here, and we may die."
Wow.
lol
Some of those bonuse bitches look like fuked up create a characters, mang. |
They were designed by manga artist for Namco. I assume their pieces are in the CAS mode...
Not gonna lie, I am madly attracted to Shura, despite her being a cartoon.

Bonus Characters, as defined by SC3's system, are characters that do not have fleshed out move-sets and are loosely tied to the in-game story. Think of them as director's cut characters. Some, like Amy from part 3, can graduate to full character state complete with full move-lists and balance tune-ups.
Characters from other franchises are Guest Characters. SC3 had none, SC2 had three, SCL had one, and SC4 has 2. |
I'll impale you on my candy cane.
Ok, that was just gay. My b.

These days, console exclusives aren't really all that exclusive. I'm sure a few months (or even weeks) after the game is out, Vader will be available as DLC on 360 and Yoda will be DLC on the PS3.
For You Fans Of Star Wars: Force Unleashed:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Qwo9V4iLXuk&hl=en"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Qwo9V4iLXuk&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> His stiff movement makes me believe he's a Guest/Bonus Character that'll be used as a template to create your own Star Wars fighter in the Create A Soul mode. Calling it now. |

Yeah, given what Namco/Bandai probably paid to get star wars involved, I doubted that it would end with Vader and Yoda. But here's hoping we get some more recognizable people like Maul and Luke, as DLC.
Hell yeah to Darth Maul, he would bring a cool style to the game. Not so much with Luke though.
C'mon, his "flailing the lightsaber about, as if he were trying to kill a bat" style is invincible.
If Darth Maul is not gonna be in at least have it where you can create him.
I wonder if the Double Bladed Lightsaber is gonna be in Create a Soul. |
Let's say no for now.
There's a rumor that God of War's Kratos will be featured in the PS3 version.
That would be fucking amazing.
What would be amazing is Halo's Arbiter with his Energy Sword in the 360 version. Seeing as how Soul Calibur wants to be this kind of fiesta bowl of characters.
SPAWN!!!!!
Pre-ordered :y:
I look forward to having some titanic battles with Kalyx online. He will likely slaughter me, however. |
Most likely.
But that isn't the point, I don't think we've had a real fighting game to play around here online. And we are getting better at the whole TPWW meet-up thing. Pretty soon it'll be... normal? It could depend on the game; I've probably played with RoXer more than anyone in Tetris Splash of all games. And if anyone wants some Rock Band quickplay try to catch me. |

Demo Gameplay @ Anime XPo:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y4vnmvgGRsU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y4vnmvgGRsU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Sorry for the quality, but it's new footage. I like Mitsu's new 2KB (Down+Kick, Vertical) and its bounce property. I'm not a Mitsu player primarily but I mess with him when I don't wanna feed others to my core team. Can't wait. |
Mits looks cool. Like a more modern, buffer Mits.
Hope they give us a demo.
is nightmare and the guy fighting mits in that demo the same guy?
Siegfried
Different people since part 3. Sieg uses Nightmare's old style (with the old Night Side stances and such) while Nightmare got a style of his own built off the old style with a single stance and a shadow step (which I will terrorize you with).
Yet Another Bonus Character:
http://img383.imageshack.us/img383/7...7160865rt7.jpg Call me crazy, but I think they're trying to pull some female gamers with roster being female heavy. |
So an ogre chick with an oversized club? Could be cool.
Just so some of you guys don't blow a casket when you play with these Bonus Characters; like last time these characters will have move-sets that are stripped down versions of the main characters. Kami up there will have Seigfried's moves for example, while also having some experimental moves that didn't make it on the main characters list, but gives the Bonus Characters some flair.
