Do you think Benoit should be inducted in the hall of fame.
Being now everyone knows what happened and vinceeven stated there will be no more mention of Chris Benoit, do you think he will get inducted into the wrestling hall of fame. Remember the key word is wrestling. I feel he should still be inducted because its all about his wrestling career not his personal life and how it ended. He was one of the best wrestlers and i know everyone pulled for him at wrestlemania 20.
|
Nope. I don't think he will. If he hadn't had killed his family as well, maybe then. But this man is a murderer. Well, was.
|
If Pete Rose can't get into the baseball hall of fame for making a little extra money, Benoit shouldn't get into a wrestling hall of fame either.
|
its unfortunate cause he was deffinatly a top canidate for the hall of fame. I figure if they do induct him then Nancys family will probably sue or something. I guess we will find out closer to Mania.
|
SHOULD he be inducted on wrestling alone? Yes. But he won't be because WWE won't want to have the sigma of having to advertise a murderer on their programming.
Even if he did, there would be a giant hippophant in the room (and not just Monty Brown) and it would be unsettling. |
No..no...and no...
|
You know, the title of the thread and the poll present two completely different questions.
|
He's not getting inducted. The WWE Hall of Fame is based on who WWE (and more specifically Vince) likes and wants to see in his Hall of Fame. I mean randy Savage hasn't gotten in because of some personal issues between himself and McMahon...you think Vince will let a murderer in.

NO! |
Even if WWE wanted to (which they wont) it wouldnt happen because it would be a big time nationwide contreversy
|
Yes, he should.
|
Yes. Fuck the rest of you tards.
|
Why would they let someone who killed 2 people into the Hall of Fame? Who the hell wants to remember a killer? People get banned from sports for much much less, this dude KILLED 2 people. He woulda been kicked out of the WWE if he did not kill himself.
|
No.
|
he should go into the murderers hall of fame!
|
Not before Owen Hart. A man's man with all the talent in the world.
But personally, he wont. Who is going to want to now induct him without feeling odd? |
These days, a player can get banned from sports for beating his wife, a shot at both Ty Cobb and Steve Austin.
Wrestling attracts some pretty scummy people. Including rapists, sociopaths, and abusive folks. Not to mention filthy drug addicts. They'd be kicked out of sports, too. EDDIE DOESNT DESERVE TEH HALL UV FAIM BAH GAWD! |
Yes, in five years, but not as one of the main people. Not as a major draw to the hall of fame. He did a lot for the wrestling industry. We don't know why he did what he did, but for his wrestling alone he should go in there.
|
No, not when he is considered a murderer of his wife and son.
|
Whether he is inducted or not, people WILL remember his great in ring excellence and they WILL remember his last actions in life.

Fuck yes he should. Chris Benoit is one of the best wrestlers to have ever lived. He has found success all over the world, he climbed to the top of World Wrestling Entertainment, and provided the last truly great WrestleMania moment (at least in my opinion), when he and Eddie Guerrero were celebrating in the ring together.
Regardless of how you feel about the disgusting nature of the Benoit family tragedy, it's damn immature to let that affect your respect for the man professionally. I could list many reasons why Chris Benoit deserves to go in the Hall of Fame, and there is only one reason why people think he should not. That reason is a personal one, and should not have any bearing on the man's profession. Will he go in? Hell no. The WWE pulled their tribute to the man, and have taken down anything that associates themselves with him. Personally, that disgusts me. What Benoit did may not have been right, but that doesn't change the fact that for 20 years Chris Benoit was one of the best in the business. I will probably get a lot of neg rep for this, but I will never stop admiring Chris Benoit professionally. Personally? I never admired him for this. The man partook in an affair with a married woman, something I could never do myself. Chris Benoit never had my respect for his private dealings, but that is not why I watched his art religiously for so many years. I will never stop loving Chris Benoit the wrestler. |

Fuck them. Seriously. |
After watching the opening of ECW tonight, I highly doubt he'll ever be put into the Hall of Fame.

Hey, isn't OJ Simpson still a Hall of Famer?

He absolutely should be inducted. He absolutely will not be inducted.

Murderers go to hell instead
|
Austin's beaten wives before and he's in the hall of fame. Not that that's on the same level as murdering your wife and son, but it's still something to think about.
It's a tough call, because based on wrestling alone, yes. I can't say yes or no. |
I already respected you two, Kane Knight and FourFifity, but my admiration for you just grew even more. :y:

On one hand: He's one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He gave nothing but 100%, and did nothing but give to us fans. He was a leader in the locker room and seemed like he made sure the younger undeserving guys were deserving. On the other hand: He murdered his wife and son. You kind of don't want to give a guy who does that any respect. I'm on the fence, and wouldn't care either way. |
On my side of the screen this is the USA. You have the right to say what you want, even if other people don't like it. The downside is other people have every right to say what they want about you and your views.
Now I see eye to eye with you. Benoit has busted his ass off for 20 years making other people a lot of money, pouring out his heart and soul, the blood, sweat, and tears, all in the name of putting on a show. What happened sucks, It fucking sucks, it hurts, and my heart goes out to Chris's other children, and his family. So get ready for some backlash. Get ready to have other people say your wrong and then make false claims about your mother's sexual life and the kool-aid man. It's their right to do so, but as KK said, fuck them. |

Look, everyone could list a hundred reasons why he should be in the hall of fame. But in the end, this guy is a cold blooded murderer, and that outweighs all the good he ever brought to us |
Chris Benoit should be in the WWE Hall of Fame. Not only was Chris Benoit one of the best wrestlers that ever lived, he also was good for the buisness as a whole. He spent his time in the buisness making others look good and upholding the tradition, artistry, and sport that is professional wrestling. The man put on more great matches then anyone not named Ric Flair, Triple H, or Shawn Michaels. Chris Benoit's in ring abilities are indisputable. The fact that the wrestling business is better for his contributions are indisputable. The fact that he is a hall of famer is indisputable.
The WWE Hall of Fame is not a Hall of Fame for good people, it isn't a hall of fame for the virtious, pure, and saintly. Chris Benoit's actions in the final 72 hours of his life are absolutly dispicable, and justafibly unforgivable for most. Murder is never justified especially to a 7 year old boy, but no matter how horrible his actions are it doesn't erase his contributions it merely taints them. Based on his career Chris Benoit should be in the Hall of Fame. But the WWE won't induct him, because it'd be a PR nightmare. |

Yes, he should. The HoF is about a wrestler's career, not their private life.
Yes, he murdered his family. That makes him a horrible person, in my opinion. But does it make him a horrible wrestler? Hell no, he was one of the greatest performers I have ever seen, and I'll be damned if the last weekend of his life ever changes my opinion of his career and in-ring ability. |
I agree that you should go to the Hall of fame because of your accomplishments in that sport and your personal life should have little to do with it but I also think you should have to be a human being to get inducted into the hall of fame.A human being doesn't do what he did.If his other 2 children were there he would of ended up killing 4 people including 3 children.
|
It's the WRESTLING Hall of Fame. As a wrestler, he should be remembered and admired. Now as for Humanitarian of the year? I think not.

And even if the career is isolated, I don't think it's right to give a wrongdoer recognition. You can have the best career ever, but if you do something like kill your wife and child, the very least consequence you can have is to forfeit a HoF spot. |
Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Yes. I don't expect him to get the Bret Hart/Hulk Hogan/Eddie Guerrero treatment where he's the... for lack of a better word, main event of the Hall of Fame that year, but at some point in time, not now, not next year, not even 10 years from now, but at some point, he should be inducted. There's no denying his accomplishments, his talent and his influence on pro-wrestling. I really wish I could expand further on my thoughts but to be honest, I really hate thinking about Benoit and wrestling in general right now. The only reason I'm typing anything at the moment is because I'm hoping this will... forget it. |
A few have mentioned pete rose not making the MLB Hall of fame, dont forget he some how is in the Wrestling hall of fame...Do you think Pete Rose deserves to be in the Wrestling Hall of fame more than Chris Benoit?
|
Solution: Put Benoit in the Baseball HOF.
|
He may do one day, but not within the next 10 years.
|

Benoit will never be found guilty, either. OJ was guilty in public opinion, and even in a civil suit. How is that different? The NFL is okay with a man who, in the eyes of the public, is a killer in the HoF. A man who stabbed two people a total of like 50 times. |
I think he should go into the fake sports' hall of fame. The guy was the goods. Who woudl induct him though?
|
OJ Simpson?
|
OJ: It's great to be here tonight. I made a killing on the promotion deal. And speaking of killing....

OJ: But if you HAD done it... how would you have gone about it?

<img src=http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e280/Always450/ojgay.jpg> .....:shifty:..... Wrong OJ? |
This act has nothing to do with the 20 years he poured into the business so yeah, I think he should. He wont though. The WWE will pretend the suddenly developed morals.
Didn't they induct Carlos Colon? |
should he yes. will he no.
should OJ still be in there yes, the NFL even if found guilty never would have removed him... they may have cut down on his display and had less "press" about him in the HOF but they wouldn't have removed him. Pete Rose isn't in the MLB HOF because he's considered to have "cheated on the game" same reason while never "proven" that Mark McGuire didn't get voted in yet. That being said, baseball writers (who vote for the MLB HOF) have been known not to vote for people they didn't like as a person or didn't consider "press friendly" See: Jim Rice & Albert Belle. So, again, "YES" he should be in, "NO" we will never be in, just the fact that Vince did a 3hr special to a guy who murdered his son and wife is something Vince will never, ever, forget. |
Hang on a second, if the HoF is based on character etc, Eddie Guerrero died due to a legacy of drug abuse. Long-term too, not just a dabble here and there. Yeah yeah, he recovered and saved himself, but that changes nothing.
If we're setting rules like that, then very few 'deserve' to be in the HoF. Especially not half the juicers that have made it. It's a bit late to pull out the morality card, especially when most are crying out for an Austin return every week. |
Are you guys fucking kidding me? He murdered a 7 year old. Drug abuse and gambling aren't even close to killing two people, let alone your own wife and your 7 year old son.
|
Quote:
At what level of crime does it become wrong to be inducted? |
Quote:
Could you please make me a comprehensive lists of what crimes do or don't put you in the HoF? |
I think murdering two people is on a slightly different plane than doing drugs or gambling.
|
Hey, lets all build a gold statue of hitler, and honor him in regards to the effectiveness in which he had all those jews killed.
|
I mean the guy was sick, but I'll be damned if he wasn't good at his job.
|
I already have a big gold statue of Hitler
|
Of course he should. People need to sit down and actually think about the purpose of the wrestling hall of fame. Forget the tragic personal matters. Yes it is tragic, but seperate it from his career as a wrestler.
Benoit deserves to be in there. He was an amazing wrestler, he made a huge impact, and no one can deny that, regardless of what you think of him outside the ring. |

Purely on the basis of the career he had, and this is what it should be based on, Chris Benoit should be inducted into the hall of fame. However, if circumstances were completely different and he had simply retired this last weekend, I don't see him as a "first-ballot" hall-of-famer. Yes, he was extremely talented. Yes, he held a few titles. But it was not even close to those of say Bret Hart, Roddy Piper, or Hulk Hogan.
But yes, he did have a great enough career to make it into the hall eventually, regardless of these recent incidents. It is obvious now that he was not mentally sound. Nobody of sound mind could commit the actions that he did, and a verdict of insanity is very similar to a verdict of not guilty. I'm obviously not saying that I condone his actions at all, I just see them as the actions of a person suffering severe mental illness. Nonetheless, he earned his spot in the hall, albeit eventually. |
So who is the murderer we re-elected?

He was never a real draw. He had no mic skills, he had no charisma. He was a great technical wrestler that wrestling promotions let get wins and titles. Remember, this stuff is scripted and to list his accomplishments is something of a joke when you think about it. The WWE hall of fame is nothing more than a marketing thing anyway and as such it's bad marketing to include a guy that the world knows is a killer.
|
Quote:
you're right... titles held has nothing to do with this... it's scripted... Now, you could argue promoters and maybe refs for years served and interviewers and announcers... but actual wrestlers, that's a good point... yeah, I change my vote... it's based of marketing... he doesn't go in... based on it's not due to wrestling wins/titles... it's popularity and marketing. |
I posted earlier no. But I do have an interesting point to bring out.
Jimmy Snuka is a HOF, and he was accused of beating many women including killing his GF in 1983, while no charges happened many feel that he did do it and he lost his chance to get a I-C title reign and a possible World Title reign. |
Another reason why I think not is the things WWE is doing, like pulling off all his merchendise and completly removing his name from all DVD descripitions and match listings.

I think once WWE does another "Who Killed Vince" angle and proves to society once and for all that murder is cool, Benoit will be a shoe in.
:shifty: |

:shifty: But yeah. I had no idea that a pro wrestler's job description included killing millions. I thought the worst you had to do was dissapear a dead hooker from <s>Ben Affleck</s> Vince McMahon's trailer. |

Chris Benoit with out a doubt needs to be in the hof. Regardless of his personal life.

<font color=goldenrod>Yes, from a wrestling standpoint, Benoit should absolutely be inducted into the HOF.
