Any 'alt' band cover of a Britney Spears etc-esque pop song, a) its not original, b) its not cool, c) get a proper haircut

You sure that wasn't the Nouvelle Vague?

If that was the one you were thinking of, you are a fool

If not....proceed

MVP 07-06-2007 10:02 AM

My Chemical Romance and The Used - Under Pressure
Green Day - Working Class Hero
Shinedown - Simple Man

ron the dial 07-06-2007 10:04 AM

OMG Working Class Hero is soooooo bad.

I loved their Bauhaus cover, BTW. Downloaded the album for that reason.

Well since anything Tori Amos does is shit, that isn't really surprising.

Also, Johnny Cash doing Hurt makes me want to vomit. And I LIKE Johnny Cash.

Quite possibly the worst cover ever. Though it usually gets worshipped because people think Cash can do no wrong. He can. That song was a good example. It doesn't shit on his career, but it certainly was shit.

And a lot of those people actually think he WROTE the song, so...

Mercury Bullet 07-06-2007 02:01 PM

I don't hate it with a passion, but "Hurt" is definately up there with the worst ever...I dunno what it is, thats a hard one to pick out.

El Vaquero de Infierno 07-06-2007 02:32 PM

Cash's cover of "Personal Jesus" was worse.

I'm glad someone agrees with me on that, I never liked that song.

Stickman 07-06-2007 02:36 PM

So reading this debate about "Hurt" I watched the videos for both on youtube, and Cash's version is much better than the original.

Theo Dious 07-06-2007 03:20 PM

I think that is the biggest reason people love it so much, they think it was him, they saw the video, they understood the link and the majority of them have never even heard of Nine Inch Nails.

If you ever get the chance to see them I would highly recommend going.

Saw them at Reading Festival last year and it was like a massive party packed into 45 minutes, I'd never heard of them at that point and it was just brilliant waiting to see what cover they'd pull out next.

Cactus Sid 07-06-2007 04:32 PM

Oh and my contribution is Poison The Well's version of Today by the Smashing Pumpkins. Anyone who can fuck up Corgan's vocals even more has got to be a complete retard.

I've noticed people think Cash wrote a lot of his biggest hits, personally, so the fact that Johnny Cash fans might not know who wrote the song doesn't surprise me. If they can't figure out that he's covering a country song, imagine how hard it'd be to figure out he's covering an industrial song.

I can't say I've heard that one. If it's worse than "Hurt," I'm not sure I want to.

Bad Company 07-06-2007 09:13 PM

uh, any techno remix, but ever time I hear boys of summer by DJ Sammy I wanna cut my ears off

Kane Knight 07-06-2007 09:41 PM

Techno doesn't count as music. If it does, my album of Acme sound effects from Warner Brothers cartoons also counts.

Children Of Bodom's cover of Oops I Did It Again is amazing

ron the dial 07-07-2007 01:36 AM

CoB also do a great cover of "The Final Countdown."

DRBailey 07-07-2007 07:21 AM

KD Lang - Hallelujah...ugh

Mike Flowers Pop - Wonderwall

Kane Knight 07-07-2007 09:46 AM

KD Lang....There's the problem.

ron the dial 07-07-2007 11:09 AM

My Morning Jacket - Take My Breath Away

Listening to it right now, and it hurts.

ct2k 07-07-2007 12:52 PM

I fucking hate that fucking latest cover of Wonderwall, not the spoof one from that camp pleb around the same time as the original, but the one that gets played on all the US teen dramas, fucking cunts:foc:

ron the dial 07-07-2007 12:54 PM

The one by Ryan Adams? If so, your opinion on this matter is very wrong.

ct2k 07-07-2007 12:56 PM

Ryan Adams should slit his wrists in a nice warm bathtub, alternitively I will stab him in the throat and fuck his mother, for a price ofcourse.

ron the dial 07-07-2007 12:57 PM

ct2k, you have accurately described what I wish would happen to you. The only detail that you left out was that I wish for the knife that slit your wrists to also stab you in the asshole repeatedly. Preferably before you are dead so that you feel the pain.

ct2k 07-07-2007 01:07 PM

Weapon X you are no longer my boy, take your bitchez and your drugs and gtf out of my crack den

ron the dial 07-07-2007 01:27 PM

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING

Kane Knight 07-07-2007 05:00 PM

Ryan Adams is usually shit.

He did bring us Jesse Malin, though, so the wrist-slitting is a bit harsh.

KingofOldSchool 07-07-2007 05:02 PM

Seether - Immortality

The Gooch 07-07-2007 06:54 PM

On a related note, Godhead's cover of Elenor Rigby would be another one worth throwing out. I like Godhead. I like ER. But their version was pretty bad.

The Lone Wolf, if your user name was not I can't finish this post

WestNZ 01-17-2008 12:45 AM

Cradle of Filth doing Temptation
Cradle Of Filth doing Hallowed be thy name
Cradle of Filth Doing Mr Crowley

This is hard for me to write as i am a huge Filth fan, but they spoilt perfectly great songs with crappy renditions

WHAT IN THE FUCKING HELL DID I JUST LET RAPE MY EARS?!! GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!!

Even by Spears standards (which isn't much), that sucked giant portions of ass. Whose idea was that, anyway?

Nark Order 01-25-2008 01:01 PM

I like Cash's cover of Hurt

Nark Order 01-25-2008 01:07 PM

Although, his cover of "Personal Jesus" isn't the greatest.

Kane Knight 01-25-2008 01:12 PM

The Scissor Sisters covering Comfortably Numb.

I may have mentioned this before in this thread but just in case.

Generally they were awesome, but Iced Eart's version of Screaming for Vengance on the Tribute to the Gods CD was aweful, 12 covers on one CD and only one bad one.

El Fangel 01-26-2008 01:44 AM

Oh sweet jesus, worst cover ever...

Behind Blue Eyes - Limp Bizkit.

WestNZ 01-26-2008 03:25 AM

Bizkit covers aren't even close to the worst ever. Although I did see them do "You Know You're Right" live and it wasn't good at all. Heard a lot worse. Like every person who covers Motown songs to start their careers or some Simon Cowell revamped shit.
