Further proof that Wii will totally own this console generation. My request: include every track from every game, or atleast faves like how MK:DS has it. This is one of those games they announce and you think, "No way in Hell am I not buying this." Wii-Wheel looks alittle small... I'll be playing with a Gamecube Wavebird, thank you. |
HOLY FUCKING CHRIST, THE ORGINAL MARIO KART IS 15 YEARS OLD?
Well i feel old as fuck over that. But yea, Wii is coming out with some pretty ill creations lately, seems like all the accessories from Wii are actually worthwhile and pretty cool. The Wii Wheel sounds funny on a side note. Good stuff |
Yeah I'll probably end up just using a Wavebird as well, so pumped about this game though. Wonder if they'll have downloadable older tracks available on the Wii Shop or w/e.
|
lol, this is NOT your fathers mario kart.
Fucking dickhead. This game will slay the world. |
yea, that line made me feel so old.

I just hope there are more tracks, and they add to the game. Not too much, but enough for it to feel like there's more to it. As much as I love Mario Kart, I want more tracks. I can't wait for this game.
|
This game will rock
|
I think I need to work in getting my Wii back online.
|
Wouldn't mind it like MK:DS. Having some tracks from each game on this one, plus shit load more for this one. Hopefully it is interesting and keeps me going cause after awhile Double Dash just got way to easy for me, which annoyed me cause my friends always wanted to play.
|
Well I have some screens and some info on the game, so here you go.Characters will have customised cars like we saw in the trailer but it looks like they may have more than one. In the trailer, Wario has a hot rod style car but in these screens he has a car with bull horns on it.
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/7...7mkart1xt2.jpg http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/3...7mkart2qn6.jpg http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/8...7mkart7ti3.jpg http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/8...7mkart6gw4.jpg http://www.vooks.net/images/kart4.jpg It's not going to be just kart racing now. They just confirmed motorbikes. http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/1...7mkart4rd5.jpg http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/7...7mkart3dp0.jpg Peaches bike looks different in each of the above screens so I dont know if each character will have more than one bike as well as multipile cars or maybe just one or the other. Retro tracks will be in the game, apparantly: http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/6...7mkart8yw3.jpg http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/5...mkart12bm4.jpg http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/7...7mkart9ua3.jpg http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/1...7mkart5sq9.jpg Anyway, I think the game looks pretty good. According to some American magazine called "Gamepro", Reggie Fils-Aime is supposed to have hinted at the possibility of MK: Double Dash style gameplay as well. I don't know how reliable Gamepro is. |
Gamepro is immature garbage. I stopped reading it about a decade ago and never looked back. EGM since the '98 10-page cover story on FF8 and I've grabbed one every month since.
|
Ok, well, I'll take your word for it. I doubted it when I read it but felt I should mention it just in case. I'm from the UK so we don't get that magazine.

Turns out everyones going to have a bike. Also it looks like we can pull off a few tricks both in our karts and on our bikes. |
Sweeeeeeeeeeet
|
Between this and Smash Bros, my wallet's gonna be empty
|
What about Super Mario Galaxy?
|
Looks like 12 racers on track this time too.

Well, you might want to avoid watching the first two minutes to Mario Galaxy then. It's pretty cool. I don't think we have a SMG thread anyway.
Dunno if it counts as spoilers but I'll give you guys a warning anyway *SPOILERS maybe* http://youtube.com/watch?v=Mvfgg-SVRYI |

Online Mario Kart ftw
|
Guy at Gamestop told me they had a tentative release day of April 12th or someday really close to that. Threw down my $5 and walked out the door happy.
|
Famitsu magazine, who has close ties to Nintendo, said nothing about that date. You just helped an employee get closer to his target reserves number for the week.

|
|
Fuck now I need a Wii.
Just had a funny thought on this. Imagine someone plays this in their car with the Wii Wheel. You pull up next to them and see like 2 or 3 people in a car twisting wireless wheels. Would be pretty freaking awesome on road trips. |
I need a Wii as well, this game looks great.

I'm sure it looks 1000x better in video form, but these pictures make the game look like crap.
|
A lot of people are saying that. I'm sure it'll be much better in motion.
|
and in english
|
I've heard from a few previews that the game doesn't look nearly as nice as it should. Let's just hope gameplay wise it makes up for it. I love that it'll keep stats. I love random stats in games. I hope they have ridiculous ones like "green turtle shells fired" and "green turtle shells that hit opponents".

Battle Mode screenshot (containing a character spoiler,if you look carefully) and some news.

The levels are SO huge yet the characters are SO small. It's such a weird perspective; it's like everyone's been hit by the lightning bolt :-\
|
Honestly, who gives a fuck that Baby Mario is in this. No one is that excited about this game.
|
And wtf would you buy the steering wheel. The only fun I've had with the motion controls are Wii Sports and Zelda/SMG.
|
You don't have to buy the wheel, it's packed in.
|
I know, I'm talking about the option to buy it by itself.
|
Oh, ok, then I agree :y:

This game finally has a date.
April 27th, 2008. |
11th April for anyone in Europe. Incase people didn't know.
|
Doesn't look nearly as slow as I've heard.
|
Holy shit, its coming out next month already? Fuck's sake, within the last 2 months, I have bought mario bros. 3, mario 64, and paper mario on the VC, as well as super paper mario, mario galaxy, and smash bros. on the wii. Now this. Fucking mario overload.
|
Mario's the shit.

They (IGN) claimed it was slower than the DS game.
|
Just got the latest Official Nintendo Magazine a few days ago. They gave MKWii 94% which means they gave it a gold award.
They say, in the review, that you can play using the wii remote/steering wheel or the remote & nunchuck or the GC controller. I never knew that. They also say snaking has been taken out. They say this is because you don't have to move the control stick left and right during a powerslide to get a boost now because the boost is determined by how long you slide. So you slide and get blue sparks and eventually get red sparks if you hold the slide long enough. Meaning that any advantage snaking has (or had) has been taken away. I like this because I was never fond of snaking but I know a lot of people use it as a technique. The review also says that stunts can be performed anytime all your vehicles wheels are off the ground and not just when you go of a huge ramp. Tricks are done by flicking the wheel and give you a boost. Apparantly, the difference between karts and bikes are that bikes can only get blue sparks and not red sparks when powersliding but they can perform wheelies on straights which give them a boost. If anyone wants to know about something else, ask and I'll flick through the review and see if the answers in there. |
lol it's a fucking Nintendo magazine what else did you expect?
|

Too be fair, although it’s a Nintendo mag, they are very fair with the reviews, it’s an all UK team doing the review and they have given some Nintendo produced games some pretty bad reviews They gave Mario Party 8 69% for example And Paper Mario got an 81% Generally they are inline with what the rest of the reviewers give games, and they do have a declaration that although they are a Nintendo mag, they remain impartial with the reviews. I’ve had a subscription for 6 months now and so far I think the review section is very fair. Plus there’s been times where other mags have given games a higher rating, like with No More Heroes, they gave it an 89%, but I think IGN gave it 94%, so they really don’t oversell the games |
I was on YouTube and came across the intro for the game.

I'll be going along. Anyone else going to be trying it out at their local GAME shop? |
So, I went to the "tournement" (it was really just a glorified time-trial) yesterday and got a chance to have a few races. Bear in mind that I only had a chance to play 4-player multiplayer and we had to stick to Lugi Circuit.
First off, the graphics do resemble Double Dash level graphics. Donkey Kongs model in particular was pretty "jagged" and poor. It still colourful and everything but in the 4 races I had on the same circuit, it did look like DD graphically. This could be because it was 4-player. Single player may look better. Gameplay was fun as always. A new thing in the game is the drift option. When you select your character and vehicle, you get a choice between Automatic and Manual. For three races, I tried Automatic and it didn't feel right not being able to powerslide at will. I couldn't figure out how to do it in Automatic. I'm assuming I'd have had to turn the wheel to an extreme degree. The one time I chose Manual I heard people behind me say "Who picked manual!? you're not allowed to pick manual! Who picked manual!?". Manual made the game much better. The weapon button does change though. In Automatic, the B button is used to fire weapons but in Manual, B is to hop (you hold it and turn the wheel to slide) and the D-pad is for firing forward or back. The game has what looked like a file select screen. If it was a file select screen, there are four save files available. What leads me to think it was a file select screen was that it had a shot of the players Mii and across the top of the small box it had a list of the different cups and down the left side it had 50cc, 100cc etc. Each of the four files had that so I'm sure it was a file select. We only saw it for a few seconds when someone accidently pressed "back" on the main menu. The Wheel itself works well enough, it doesn't feel cheap and plasticy and the buttons used in the game are easy to reach and it's very comfy to hold. The 2 button is accelerate and you, supposedly, flick the wheel upward to do tricks but I could never pull it off. Flick the wheel upwards when you ride a bike and it does a wheelie which should give you a boost (the wheelie boost replaces the powerslide boost in bikes because bikes can't powerslide.) Once you get used to the wheel, it's enjoyable. Overall, the game seems fun even if this rundown seems a tad negative, it was the circumstance I played it under. It was way too crowded and it was a case of jumping in the deep end, right into competition rather than having time to get used to it. Plus I had a group of cocky twats behind me ridiculing everyones every move, despite the fact that two of the people I played against that day where young children. The kids where actually better than a few of the older people there actually. If the game is played in your own enviroment, in your own time I'm sure it would be great. |
this is the longest thing ive ever read about mario cart.
|
I could have made it even longer but I tried to keep it as short as I could.

The AI is even more cheating bastardy than usual....

Anyways, the reason it so cheating is for the 5th time in a row I have had such a lead no-one could catch me, not even with a blue shell, so I get hit with a POW block.... No big deal, can still win.... Blue shell.... Still winning. RED SHELL JUST AS I HIT THE GROUND AND I FINISH 6TH. That exact combo.... 5 times.... Different tracks. Jesus, I didn't think they would make it more of a cheating bastard, just kept it the same. As for online play, I had one game before they took the servers down and a 10 player match was smooth as hell. It shows everyones Mii waving from the country they're in before the race starts. Shame you can't talk to anyone :( |
So, picked this up last night.
Really enjoying it at the moment, steering wheel takes a while to get used to so I'm playing it without the wheel. Killing it off at 50cc. |
Done all the cups on 50cc. Pretty cool. Moving onto 100cc tonight.
I don't appreciate certain secret characters being spoiled by staff ghost that are available from the start using them. |
I want this so bad but i'm skint :(
|
GAME are doing a deal. Trade in any two Wii games and get MKWii for 4.99
|
Won a few cups on 150cc
|
I love this game!
Done all of 100cc and 50cc and just played some online. Got the 50 wins online car aswell... the quad bike thing |
My Wii is curently offline :(
How is online? I heard the world number 1 on a lot of time trials cheated and is unbeatable. |
I was 8th on Luigi circuit for 24 hours :(.
Battle mode is team only online but the races are awesome. I'm a bit surprised by the skill level of people online so far, winning races by like 10 seconds even after taking blue shells. There was one JAP guy who I kept trading wins with but you can't pos rep them like you can on Live and find them more often :( |
First things first, here’s my friend code, add me people:
3566 1681 3609 This game is addictive, I haven’t bothered with the wheel, it’s fun, but not as good as using the normal method. I’m preferring the bikes so far, more responsive. Got 6400 points online, so I’m holding my own. Waiting for all the yanks to get on so the fun can really kick in. Setting up a games room is really simple and the whole thing is user friendly. So yeah very impressed. Oh and how the heck do you cheat to make yourself number 1 with the best times? |
So when does this hit stateside?
|
End of the month I think

How fucking sad is that? Jesus!

I still don't know if I'm going to get this. I've never had a Mario Kart game on any of my Nintendo systems and I don't know if this will be the one that breaks the cycle. The online is looking great, but I dunno if that's enough for me to go out and buy it. |
Quote:
The online stuff is quick in a good way, about 1-2 minutes between races tops, finding your friends online mid game is easy, all you do is latch on and then you start the next race with them There's stuff to unlock in 1 player as well. Honestly, it's a great great game. Even my 3 year old kid can play it for god sake. |
Can't put it down when Dylan goes to sleep :)
Just need to get a wireless router to get my wii online. |
Quote:
It's just that I love playing Mario Kart, but it was never enough to actually buy the game. Plus the single player offering (which is what I'll probably be playing most of the time) doesn't seem as robust as Super Mario Kart or Mario Kart 64. Also. the wide tracks bug the hell out of me for some reason. I'll wait for reviews though and hope that they're good. |
My Wii is back online so I posted my Wii code in the Wii code thread.
Here's my MKWii code: 1246 8965 2476 |
So expert trials....
I've done so many but I still can't unclock (highlight to read characters) Funky Kong and all them |
Just got it been playing for hour or two. Really enjoy online play, really smooth stuff. Been going back and forth between wheel and GC controller. Might have to do Wii Mote Nunchuch combo. Can't figure how to keep items behind me when using wheel (ie hold a green shell behind me for protection) Also can't get boost with Gamecube on jumps, assume you can with Wii mote nunchuck combo
|
Papa Georgio : 3050-7962-9671
Dave Youell : 3566-1681-3609 Drakul : 1246-8965-2476 Add all friend codes here. |
Hold left or right on the d-pad when you have anything like a shell, banana or a fake ? block and you'll hold it behind you. Even if it's not for protection, you can hold the item behind you and collect another item.

Came out today, going to pick up my copy now.
|
Question, how do you unlock expert ghosts. I've beaten a few ghost trials but never unlocked any experts.
|
I've just been beating normal ghosts... Haven't done 150cc yet...
|
WTF I'm having such a hard time with bike drifting. I'm so use to the easy drifting on the DS.
5026-4824-3606 I suck btw. |
This is by far the best MK.
I was 4-0 online, until some guy named Hitler (had the mustache and all) was glitching or something. I would be first with only 4 Mii's on the map, then he would pop up out of nowhere way ahead of me and I'd be second. This would happen every lap. We played on DK Jungle from the 64. |
I agree, really loving the game right now. Especially online, Nintnedo did it mostly right online, besides voice chat stuff everything else is pretty pimp online. BTW My online Mii is Big Waz, ya'll look out for me, cause you'll only see my back side when I'm whoopin ya'll
|
I'm going to add everyone here. I have no clue what I'm doing regarding friends and shit.
|
Add me I'm playing online right now
|
Just got it and played a couple cup races.
Wow. I got triple teamed way too often, and got bombed with blue shells like 10 times within 30 minutes. This is gonna take a while to get used too. |
Quote:
I'll probably add people from here. Would I need to ad their Wii code aswell or just the MKWii code? |
Beat all the cups. Freaking fantastic. Didn't even know there was a ds mario kart. My favorite tracks from n64 and gba are in.
Online is mad fun. Love battling. |
Just the Mario Kart code. Also U-Warrior what your code?
|
Playin Drakul now don't think he knows though
|
dunno I'll post it tomorrow. Does this game have its own code?
|
Yeah, Nintendo are fucktards. Your Wii has a code and each game has its own code.
Fuck can't wait till my brother can rent this shit... FO FREE |
God, nintendo is so stupid when it comes to online. Why wouldn't they make games dlc compatible. That seems so very silly,
