Baseball Trivia

You know, because it's fun.

Since 2000, 4 players have collected at least 200 base hits and 40 home runs in a single season. Name them.

CNM 08-12-2007 02:56 PM

Todd Helton, Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, and.... I can't come up with a fourth player

McLegend 08-12-2007 04:31 PM

I'm going to say ManRam

The Miz 08-12-2007 07:25 PM

Arod did it with Mariners and then later w/ Rangers. Helton, Pujols, and I am going to guess Soriano w/ Yankees. Might be Vlad but I don't think sp.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-12-2007 11:28 PM

The Miz I'm disappointed you don't know the last guy.

MVP 08-12-2007 11:41 PM

Adrian Beltre is the last one

Supreme Olajuwon 08-12-2007 11:54 PM

ding ding ding

The Miz 08-13-2007 12:00 AM

Yeha like I pay attention to the Dodgers

The Miz 08-13-2007 12:02 AM

Alfonso Soriano
2002 26 NYY AL 156 696 128 209 51 2 39 102 41 13 23 157 .300 .332 .547 131 381 1 7 1 14 8

Damn.

The Miz 08-13-2007 12:03 AM

This outfielder is the only played to ever be intentionally walked 5 times in one game.

Skippord 08-13-2007 12:15 AM

Bonds?

The Miz 08-13-2007 12:25 AM

Naw

toxic rooster 08-13-2007 12:47 AM

I thought Bonds had pretty much every intentional walk record possible :-\

Shisen Kopf 08-13-2007 02:00 AM

Andre Dawson, that was easy.

toxic rooster 08-13-2007 03:01 AM

Google easy.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-13-2007 08:37 AM

Name the two players to hit 50 homers in a season and steal 50 bases in another season.

Loose Cannon 08-13-2007 10:38 AM

well I know Bonds is surely one.

Shisen Kopf 08-13-2007 10:55 AM

Brady Anderson is one of them I think

YOUR Hero 08-13-2007 09:09 PM

Brady ever steal 50 bases?

YOUR Hero 08-13-2007 09:10 PM

just looked, yup in '93 he had 53 stolen bases.

-weird career, that Mr. Anderson. 53 stolen bases in a season, but never again came close to those type of #'s, just like the 50 HR year.

OssMan 08-14-2007 10:51 AM

I think Bonds only stole 50 bases once and it was in the same year he hit 50 HR so that does not count. I think Willie Mays did it and I am gonna guess Frank Robinson.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-14-2007 05:32 PM

it was Bonds and Anderson

Bonds only hit 50 homers once and that was his 73 year

OssMan 08-14-2007 10:23 PM

oh. new question

The Miz 08-16-2007 10:17 PM

Who R the only two players with 50 doubles and 50 steals in a season

Skippord 08-17-2007 01:47 PM

Craig Biggio and ???

McLegend 08-17-2007 02:47 PM

Craig Biggo and Tris Speaker

The Miz 08-17-2007 04:32 PM

:y:

Supreme Olajuwon 08-17-2007 05:41 PM

Name the 6 members of the 300-300 club.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-17-2007 05:42 PM

that's homers and stolen bases btw

McLegend 08-17-2007 06:10 PM

Barry Bonds, Bobby Bonds, Wille Mays, Andre Dawson, Reggie Sanders, and Steve Finlay

The Miz 08-17-2007 07:04 PM

Rickey's gotta be there....right??

McLegend 08-17-2007 07:11 PM

nope he has hit 297 home runs

The Miz 08-17-2007 07:17 PM

All the more reason for him to unretire and hit leadoff for the Mets

McLegend 08-17-2007 07:19 PM

I argee

Nervous Ferret 08-18-2007 12:27 AM

Is Griffey seriously not 300-300

McLegend 08-18-2007 12:31 AM

He has only stolen 184 bases.

YOUR Hero 08-18-2007 10:35 PM

Who holds the record for the most HRs as a teenager

The Miz 08-19-2007 02:35 PM

I have heard the answer to this before, I remeber it being an older player. I think Griff is second with 16

Supreme Olajuwon 08-19-2007 03:16 PM

I know Ott has more than Griffey because he started playing when he was 17 but I'm not sure if he's #1.

McLegend 08-19-2007 04:19 PM

Tony Conigliaro

The Miz 08-19-2007 05:12 PM

It's amazing how easy it is when you use Google

McLegend 08-19-2007 05:15 PM

Baseball-reference.com there, sir.

The Miz 08-19-2007 08:24 PM

Isn't the point of trivia to see whether or not you know it. I know some handicapped kids that could probably look it up

Isn't the point to answer the questions so the game can still go on?

Supreme Olajuwon 08-19-2007 09:38 PM

No, it is not.

Name the player with the most World Series rings who never played for the Yankees.

YOUR Hero 08-19-2007 11:10 PM

yeah, don't google shit :(

Make it hard/fun

YOUR Hero 08-19-2007 11:12 PM

Tony C.

read up on him last year and a bit again this year, pretty interesting career.

YOUR Hero 08-19-2007 11:12 PM

In regards to Supreme's question: Barry Bonds.

YOUR Hero 08-19-2007 11:44 PM

I'd think it's a Giant or Dodger. Most likely a New York Giant or Brooklyn Dodger

Supreme Olajuwon 08-20-2007 02:38 PM

Hints:

-He never played for a New York team period
-He is a Hall of Famer
-He is in the top 30 all time in avg, OBP, runs, hits, triples, and stolen bases

Adder 08-20-2007 04:45 PM

I'd think maybe an Oakland A from their 70's teams.

The Miz 08-20-2007 04:50 PM

My guess is Eddie "College Boy" Collins

Supreme Olajuwon 08-20-2007 04:55 PM

Eddie Collins would be the correct answer.

5 rings with the Philadelphia A's, 1 with the Chicago White Sox

The Miz 08-20-2007 05:53 PM

Shoulda been 2

Supreme Olajuwon 08-20-2007 06:01 PM

Reds would've won anyway :shifty:

Loose Cannon 08-20-2007 06:10 PM

lol.

Collins hit like shit in that series. I thought it had to have been someone from the A's. I was going to post Stuffy McGinnis, but it didn't sound right to me. Miz :y:

Supreme Olajuwon 08-20-2007 07:15 PM

There have only been 15 times in major league history that a player has collected at least 240 hits in a season. Of those 15 cases, only 3 times did the player who had at least 240 hits win the MVP award. Name those 3 players.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-20-2007 07:16 PM

Daren Erstad is not one of them.

YOUR Hero 08-20-2007 07:36 PM

Ichiro, Williams, Brett?

The Miz 08-20-2007 09:33 PM

Ichiro, Cobb, Hornsby

Supreme Olajuwon 08-21-2007 01:10 AM

Ichiro and Cobb are correct. Hornsby despite having one of the greatest individual seasons of all time in 1922 where he had 250 hits, .401 avg, 141 runs, 42 homers, 152 rbis did not win the MVP because nobody in the National League won the MVP.

The final person had 240+ hits twice.

YOUR Hero 08-21-2007 10:58 AM

Joe Jackson?

Loose Cannon 08-21-2007 11:01 AM

Jackson never won an MVP. his 1911 season was very close to Cobbs though.

pretty sure it has to be Sisler. He won an MVP in the 20's and I'm just taking a guess it was the same year he had around 240 hits.

YOUR Hero 08-21-2007 11:08 AM

I didn't realise Sisler won any MVP's, thought of him right away.... As for Jackson, no MVPs? Huh.

Loose Cannon 08-21-2007 11:12 AM

nope. his 1911 and 1912 seasons could be argued, but it went to Cobb and then Speaker.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-21-2007 12:23 PM

Sisler is correct. He won in 1922 by hitting .420 with 246 knocks. He benefited from Cobb, Ruth and Speaker all missing a number of games that year.

Interestingly enough Ichiro and Sisler both had seasons with more hits than they did the year they won.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-21-2007 12:42 PM

Name the 4 sets of teammates who've each driven in at least 150 runs in the same season. One player did it with two separate teammates.

Loose Cannon 08-21-2007 12:46 PM

Gehrig and Ruth
Gehrig and Dimaggio

I have to think about the others

Loose Cannon 08-21-2007 12:56 PM

Simmons and Foxx.

having trouble with the final one

loopydate 08-25-2007 02:07 AM

Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth
Jimmie Foxx and Al Simmons
Joe DiMaggio and Lou Gehrig
Ted Williams and Vern Stephens

Supreme Olajuwon 08-25-2007 12:35 PM

correct

you know when talking about greatest players of all time, Gehrig's name does not get brought up nearly enough

Supreme Olajuwon 08-25-2007 12:46 PM

Name the only person in baseball history to have 3 straight seasons of hitting 40 or more homers and striking out 40 or less times.

Supreme Olajuwon 08-25-2007 12:47 PM

hint: he's not a hall of famer

Loose Cannon 08-25-2007 03:49 PM

Ted Kluzewski (sp)

OssMan 08-26-2007 01:26 AM

Name one player post-1900 who has driven in over 100 runs and hit less than 10 home runs.

Note: Sam Thompson and Cap Anson did it, but this was before 1900 so those are not one the answers.

Hint: At least 3 people have done it

Loose Cannon 08-26-2007 05:16 PM

lol, you know those are dead ball era guys. let me think about it.

Loose Cannon 08-26-2007 05:18 PM

Wagner
Lajoie
Speaker

There's probably a ton more too.

Loose Cannon 08-26-2007 05:18 PM

oh, you said one.

Loose Cannon 08-27-2007 11:01 AM

k, I'll do one until Supreme comes back.

Most baseball fans know about the 1919 Sox scandal and all the players from that team that were banned because of it. But here's my question.

What other current (at that time) mlb player also recieved a lifetime ban from baseball along with the Sox players for being associated with the fix?

Evil Vito 08-27-2007 11:29 AM

Joe Gedeon of the St. Louis Browns...have heard that question before

I'll post a question later when I can think of one

Evil Vito 08-27-2007 11:33 AM

OK, another ban related question:

believe it or not - these two Hall of Fame players were banned from organized baseball for a short while before new Commissioner Peter Uberroth lifted the suspension in 1985

Loose Cannon 08-27-2007 12:29 PM

Mantle and Mays. That commisioner was a moron.

YOUR Hero 08-27-2007 03:33 PM

Why were Mantle ands Mays banned :?:

OssMan 08-27-2007 03:39 PM

Mantle and Mays were both retired by 1985 :?:

Loose Cannon 08-27-2007 03:51 PM

cause they both worked at or were involved with a casino. it was stupid

Loose Cannon 08-27-2007 03:56 PM

also, you can get banned from baseball whether you're retired or not.

Loose Cannon 08-27-2007 04:13 PM

here's a cool one for you.

On the 50th anniversary of a particular all-star game, a Hall of Fame pitcher was on hand to throw out the first pitch. During the game, 2 NL pitchers combined to strikeout 6 AL batters in a row, an All-Star game record. That record broke the previous record of 5, which was held by the very same guy throwing out the first pitch.

Name the HOF player who threw out the first pitch?

Name the two pitchers who combined to strike out 6 in a row?

Supreme Olajuwon 09-27-2007 11:11 AM

I have no idea what the answer to that question and I doubt anyone else does so I'm going to do a slightly easier one:

Name the two members of the 30 HR/50 SB club.

Supreme Olajuwon 09-27-2007 11:12 AM

and after this season Hanley Ramirez might be the 3rd member

Loose Cannon 09-27-2007 01:35 PM

my answer was Carl Hubbell (struck out Ruth, Gehrig, Foxx, Simmons and Cronin)

and Fernando Valenzuela and Dwight Gooden

Supreme's answer is Barry Bonds and Eric Davis

YOUR Hero 09-27-2007 11:32 PM

Hanley got # 29 tonight. 51 SBs... Go Hanley.

OssMan 09-30-2007 01:11 AM

Ramirez hurt his hand pretty bad today :(

Supreme Olajuwon 03-06-2010 02:26 PM

Fuck, Eric Davis was so good. 86-87 combined for 64 homers and 130 stolen bases

anyway bringing this back lemme think of a good question

Supreme Olajuwon 03-06-2010 02:50 PM

Four players have had at least 130 runs, 130 rbi's, and 130 walks in a single season. Name them.

Nervous Ferret 03-06-2010 03:20 PM

Ruth, Gehrig, Ted Williams, Bonds

Supreme Olajuwon 03-06-2010 03:28 PM

Ruth, Gehrig, and Williams are correct. Bonds is not, although he did come close in 04 with 129 R, 137 RBI, and 177 BB.

Nervous Ferret 03-06-2010 03:33 PM

Giambi? McGwire? Bagwell? :(

Supreme Olajuwon 03-06-2010 03:37 PM

Mark McGwire is the final man. 130 R, 147 RBI, 162 BB in his 70 HR season.

Supreme Olajuwon 03-06-2010 04:04 PM

Name the 7 clubs that have had 10 or more players win the MVP while on the team

multiple winners are ok, count the award not the player
