Amazing documentary. Good inside into Shawns' life in the 90s'. Triple H finally fessing up on camera that he was the first one to speak up on the idea of the screw job. Not that anyone really cares, but hearing Triple H say "Fuck Him" when talking about Bret made me kinda mark out. I suggest a watch.

Was it supposed to look like Bret Hart submitted to the Sharpshooter, or was the idea to create the evil Mr. McMahon character right then?

Excellent documentary. Seemed like Shawn was letting off a lot of steam and getting out a lot of demons, you could see him struggling when talking about his drug problems.

Moment of the doc for me though....easy...

Great DVD. Just watched it. It almost got me excited for Wrestlemania this year.

Wonderful documentary. You can watch the entire thing on youtube if you're cheap. I did but it makes me want to buy it now.

Seriously though, the kissing of the ass is astounding whenever HHH or HBK or Flair are involved. Brisco called HBK heroic...lol, for what? And secondly, bit of an exaggerration much?

Then Trips calls Bret unprofessional. What they FAIL to note was Bret telling HBK to his face he was willing to job to him. HBK said "thanks, I appreciate it, but I'm not willing to do the same for you." What class and professionalism there. A spit in the face to Bret, and the business. Bret then said fuck him, why should I job to a guy like that? Cant blame him.

Also take note: HBK had a habit of dropping titles. Not jobbing and putting guys over.

Another note: HBK would listen to Vince if it benfits him to do so. If it doesnt, he whines and squirms his way out of doing them.

So yeah, anybody calling Bret unprofessional and then praising HBK...lolz.

Dibiase, good guy, but it wasnt about losing the title in Canada..it was about a bit of reason, HBK being a bitch, Bret had more time on the contract..well into december. And oh yeah, it was more about not jobbing to a guy that wouldnt appreciate it...you think Bret wouldnt job to Austin or Taker in Canada? Fuck yeah he would have. Hell, he's jobbed enough in Canada.

I didnt watch the doc? I saw HBK crying about wanting to be there for his son in a gut wrenching, touching moment. About the only time HBK ever seemed sincere about anything in his life.
And I saw HBK acting like a homo on numerous clips, showing off some great cock sucking ability which he must have had practice on.

I saw Dick Hickenbottom(lol).

And I saw Patterson calling him great in the ring but not so great out of it.

I saw Trips talking about HBK getting on Takers last nerve.

Basically what I culled from this was HBK: Marvellous talent, huge fucking pussy ass douche.

Zen - can I ask you a serious question:

Are you related to Bret in real life? (I guess if you were, you wouldn't admit it on here anyways, but I was just curious).

I guess I'm having a difficult time comprehending why some people STILL feel so passionate and angry over the Montreal Screwjob....an even that took place over 10 years ago.

What saddens me the most about Bret, is how he consistently attacks HBK whenever the subject of Montreal is brought up. In effect, Bret goes down to HBK's level. Compare this with Mick Foley and how he dealt with Flair. Or how Triple H dealt with Goldberg a few years ago at an autograph signing.

From my view point, Bret has had NUMEROUS chances to prove that he is the bigger man than HBK. Unfortunately however, Bret has squandered all of those opportunities....by constanty "going down" to the level of HBK, Flair etc. when they take pot-shots at him (and responding in equal child-like fashion). In the end, HBK comes across as a man who has changed for the better (and admits to his past problems). Bret on the other hand, comes across as a guy who is still bitter about the past (even if it's not as bad as people like me think).

As a proud Canadian citizen, it pains me to say this, but I do think HBK is the bigger man than Bret at this point in their lives.

I'd attmept a HHH promo, but I don't know if I could fit that many characters in one post.

Triple H can carry a promo, which is IMPERATIVE in professional wrestling. So it can get a bit boring, I won't deny that, but he has charisma on the mic. He can convey what he wants to say. Bret never could without looking like a douche.

Bret's promos are god awful

Bret made two or three promos in 97 alone which were better than anything Trips has managed to come up with.

But then again, promos back in the day were generally superior because they weren't scripted letter for letter like they have been for the longest time.

HHH:

I'm gonna take you out tonight, nose to nose, face to face..I'm going to humiliate you..pummel you, I'm going to destroy you, and make you realize you cannot stand with me...make you realize you cannot go toe to toe with me..make you realize you cannot lace my boots...make you realize you cannot tie my shoes...I will take your title..I will strip you of your belt...I will once again hold the championship up high...hold it around my waist...

The guy is a loser. He'll always be looked at as somebody that didnt get to where he did get to all on his own merits. His own merits only qualify him as an upper midcarder at the MOST.

Meh...Bret vs. Shawn is to wrestling fans as Star Wars vs. Star Trek is to sci-fi nerds, and pro-choice vs. pro-life is to assholes. It's an un-win-able war that just leaves for an annoying read.

During there period of time, both Shawn and Bret were the best for different reasons. Bret had the pure wrestling skill and Shawn had the pure charisma. Each side has it's fans, and like someone else said about a different topic awhile back, people choose the side of the person they like better.

My opinion...Shawns an asshole and egging Bret on with the "I'd never job to you" thing is asking for trouble. At the same time, it's hard to feel bad for a guy when he can't move on from an even in 97'. It was when Bret was playing the Commish of WWA 4 years later and cut a promo about the evil WWF and getting screwed that I offically stopped feeling sorry for Bret.

I agree that it's an unwinable debate and gets very annoying.

But, I have problems with that because you talk about Bret being pure wrestling skill, which he was, but Shawn was and is better in the ring. And since he's also incredibly charismatic he wins in a landslide.

It's really no offense to Bret or his marks. Bret's a legend and a great wrestler, and has a legacy of his own. But there can only be one best of all time and that spot belongs to HBK

extremely disagree about Bret's promos being "god awful" and what not. not going to go into a big speal on this because by this point people have thier minds made up about Bret Hart on here.

but, Bret's character in the early-mid 90's wasn't a charisma filled character. It was a hard worker character and that's it and people got behind him. He didn't need to fill up 7-12 minutes with flashy catch phrases or anything like that. He was very direct, very confident and really just said he was going to beat you. Nothing off the wall special, but I guarantee you the crowd back in 91-96 didn't just get behind Bret because he was a great wrestler. And you want to talk about a guy being fucking over, pick up Royal Rumble 94 and tell me Bret wasn't "the man" at that point.

also, if you take Bret out of WWF 1997, the Canada/USA angle doesn't succeed at all. He carried that whole thing along with Austin. and HBK did a great job to expand it when he came in around the Fall. Argulably the best year the WWF ever had

I myself have been extremely critical of Brett, but I agree with Loose Cannon.

Bret had very good charisma when he spoke, and he did a masterful job of coming across as REAL in his promos.

I actually thought Bret was excellent in the Summer of 97'....around the time when I started getting interested in the WWF(E).

This created even more heat between Bret and Shawn. Later that summer, Bret and Shawn got into a real fight backstage, where Bret confronted Shawn about comments Shawn made about Bret Hart and Sunny. From what's being said, Bret took down Michaels and there was some hair pulling and then WWF officials had to break it up. Right after Shawn got his ass kicked

I seem to remember a tag match being set with Bret and someone against Shawn and someone, and it never happened.

I know exactly what you're talking about, but I don't think that was the one. I would have to go back and look at the tape, but I think that was for storyline purposes. Pretty sure that was the episode where HBK got laid out in the back by the Harts.

Anyways that night in Hartford Bret did go after Shawn, they were sent home, Shawn said he had had enough of this and wanted out..he was unhappy, and felt lonely without his buds over in the wcw. That night Shawn even said he was to have a match with Brian Pillman but because of what went down that didnt happen.

Anyways, Shawn whined about that for a while. He basically took the summer off, and was scheduled to wrestle at Canadian Stampede but he opted(pussed) out.

Basically IMO:

Shawn Michaels > Bret Hart > Triple H.
