Writers Strike
For christ's sake, I'm all for equality I am (thats why I think female staff should work longer, so they can earn the same as the men) but all these shows are being closed down and production suspended, does the situation really require such action? I know it does, its just I want my shows back.
Was quite funny to see Carlton Cuse holding up a sign on the picket line; 'Want to know what the Island is?' |
Lost writer?
|
Yeah
|
I bet if I went down there, set up a few seats, opened a few cans, chilled out, and got all merry with them....yeah, I reckon I could get him to tell me.
|
The Island, I think is the limbo between life and death. Just my opinion.
|
I will flip out and pull a <s>Kano</s>:shifty: crazy apeshit rant, if it was "all just a dream"
|
All these late show hosts have started back up again, but just what the hell are their guests going to talk about with no shows and eventually no new movies?
|
The late night talk show hosts are doing this all by themselves. Either that, or everybody loses their jobs.
That was the ultimatum they gave to Carson Daly. |
He was thrown to the Wolves.
|
Writers aren't getting compensated, but it mildly inconveniences me, so....WAAAAAH
|
I love the point they're proving. Without writers, you have no shows. It's so fucking simple, and yet so many people 'above the line' don't seem to understand this concept.

I hope they settle this soon so that everyone gets what they want, the writers get their money and we get our shows back.
|
Scrubs could end up not getting a series finale over this :'(
|
I agree with why they're striking, but it's getting to the point where I don't even give a fuck about them. I'm sick of hearing about them. They don't have nearly as much power as they think they wield.
It could end up like the air traffic controller strike where they just get replaced and find themselves all out of jobs. Then the ones who are even able to still get a job can put down their signs, tuck their tails between their legs and come crawling back |
American Gladiators doesn't need writers
|
Why don't they just do what every other industry does - out source to India.
|
I think 24 would have premiered last night.
|
Here's hoping they stick to their guns and prevail.

Oh, come on, you can't just replace writers like air traffic controllers and surgeons. :shifty: Anyway, in all seriousness, if it was that easy, don't you think they would have already done it? |
So do you know if the writers are still writing stuff on the side, but not giving it to the studios
Say with the Lost example, the whole show could now have a killer script because they’ve had loads of extra time to write it, but they are just not giving it to the studio Or are they flat out not writing anything? I see the Golden Globes is basically just going to be a press conference now I think the Oscars could be the deal breaker, it’s the biggest night of the year for movies, and if they boycott that, there’s a ton of money to be lost. So I predict a resolution before the academy awards. Personally I don’t blame them, and I don’t see what the big deal is from our point of view, there’s so much content out there that I’ve never had a chance to check out because my free time is taken with these shows, I can watch other old stuff now and get hooked on loads of seasons of stuff I’ve never seen (like 24) |

:'( BTW, Season 5 is still the best...kudos to WGN for having the entire season as a marathon over 2 nights the weekend before New Year's. :y: |

Also, studios can, and are, still making movies that have already been written.. I mean, you realize the stockpile of screenplays just sitting in cardboard boxes in Hollywood??
I still get an IATSE newsletter from 478 and there are already over 50 features in preproduction in Louisiana for 2008.. Movies won't stop being made for a long, long time.. |

And being a scab isn't what you want to be. Unions and strikers rule though fear really. |

NBC said they made over a Billion Dollars last year on the web. Now them making that statement when the writers are on strike for precisely these reasons (not getting paid for material that goes to the web) is rather foolish and arrogant. In the long run, I also believe it hurts their case.
|
There's really no telling if NBC's bullshitting or not, though. Alot of these news networks are coming off as extremely biased against the writers, and for obvious reasons.

Any closer to a deal?

Nopers.

Conan has a nice beard tho'

If anything, if they were bullshitting, they've probably rated it lower. |

So what shows are back despite the strike? I know The Tonight Show and Late Night, and I've noticed that the Daily Show (A Daily Show, I guesS) is back. Bill Maher's been on for a couple weeks...
I mean, I know some other shows are on right now simply because they were filmed and produced before the strike, but these are shows that go on regularly and such. Also, how funny is it that a lot of REALITY shows are being affected by the strike? |
Why is it called A daily show now?
|
Contractual reasons?
No clue, tbh |
john Stewart said until the writers come back it will not be the Daily Show, it will be A Daily Show until their return...
|
With protests like that, this strike'll be over in no time.
