Cloverfield (SPOILER PIC)
This opens Friday, and I'm gonna watch this crazy bastard tomorrow.
There are fan art sketches of the monster made after watching the movie all over the net, and it looks fucking berzerk. My manager gave me the poster of the movie, and if the movie sucks, I'm gonna eBay that shit Thursday. After all, I've still got my Dark Knight poster to fall back on. |
|
I didn't care enough to try to hunt that one down. It was more than two pages back, so I didn't bother using the search.
|
So is it a big lion or something because the dude's yelling "it's a big lion!! It's destroying the whole city..." or something like that.
|
Manbearpig?

concept art for the monster.
|
I don't suppose that's the Cthullu Doc Brown was talking about on A.O.T.S
|
I read an review for the film online today and they said that by the end of the movie you do get a full body clear as day detailed look at what this big monster is....they also went on to say that the monster looked cheesy and shouldnt have been shown like that.
The film got a 8/10 rating and was said to really make the people watching be in fear. I cant wait. I already got my tickets for after work on Friday. |
Yeah they said if you get motion sickness easy to take some medicine before it because some shots when they're running from the monster all you see is the groung and buildings. Think Blair Witch only cooler.

Looks pretty badass.
|
I wanna ride it. Like DK rides the rhinoceros.
|
Not the first time I've seen a picture more or less like that for this movie. Unfortunately, it is in all likelihood false.

Just saw the movie.
FUCKSHITJESUS. It is so intense and scary. |
I've heard a lot of complaints about the ending. I won't go into details, but as you can expect from a hand-held film about nobodies watching a monster destroy shit, I assume it ends in the most logical way possible.
Fuck Hollywood and them conditioning people to expect shit. |

LOL...Gotta love Asylum...they know just the way to rip off movies...
Not only have they ripped off Snakes on a Plane, Transformers, Alien Vs Predator and I am Legend. But now they ripped off Cloverfield... I give you...MONSTER <object width="425" height="373"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/bSxMYkXq67A&rel=1&border=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/bSxMYkXq67A&rel=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="373"></embed></object> |
Is it crazy that I've seen like 6 Asylum movies now?
|
How is it a rip off if it came out a full year before??
What is Asylum?? p.s. I'm going to see Cloverfield is like an hour.. WOO |
Just got back from seeing it...
It was an awesome movie experience... People were pissed at the ending though but I loved it. I definently think this is one of those movies that is better to catch at the theaters with the surround sound. I dont think it will stand up to just watching it at home on a TV screen. And from what Ive heard the excitement doesnt work the 2nd time around. Some of the people I was with at the movie saw it a couple days ago at an advance screening and they said that it wasnt that great the second time around. You begin to notice the movies flaws. In the end...Awesome movie that everyone should definently see...but while its at theaters. |

100 Million B.C. looks like a rip off of 10,000 B.C. I Am Omega is a rip off of I Am Legend. The are a lot of similarities but different ending and stuff. |
Can anyone say Sequel???
According to various sources...at a screening last night that Matt Reeves was in attendance for he was asked about the possibility of a sequel. He said that if this one does well chances are they will make another one. When asked about how the story would work for that film he said that "Perhaps this group of people were not the only people filming that night?" |
My plans got changed.. I'm def gonna see this this weekend..
|
Just saw it.....Amazing.
I agree that it needs to be seen in the theater for the full experience. |
Very intense. Now I gotta search all over the net to find out what the hell that thing was.
And DO NOT get bit by the little ones! |
They did a great job of giving me enough to think it was great, but leave me still craving more info. How, why?!?!?!? They could make a sequel with back story, or even just like news reports for the next few days. Give me somthing!
|
Quote:
What happened with that? (Spoiler in black of course) Did that chicks stomach explode or did they kill her somehow? I just remember the blood spraying on the cover thing so I assume she exploded Those little creatures reminded me of the bugs from Starship Troopers. |
Well:
There was that one soldier with a gaping hole in his midsection with somebody saying "We got another bite" or something. I assume that you 'burst' after a little while. Don't think it was the military's doing, with the guy saying she was already done with. Still, I'm left with more Q's than A's. And appearently there was something to see in the last shot at Cony Island in the background... |
Yeah you see something fall into the Harbor in the right hand corner of the screen
|
Well, now I just don't know what to think. All you guys think this movie rocks. Everyone I know in real life hated it.
|
I loved how the ending tied it all together with the first day. You saw the monster falling into the water and then you could see the rocket ship thing in the background that was also shown while they were on the bridge, before he panned over to the Statue of Liberty.
Very intense but I don't know how well it would be the second time. |
I loved it, but I really didn't like the way the monster looked. It felt like they were trying too hard to make it look 'different' IMO.
Anyway, the important thing is that it scared the shit out of me, and it left me wanting more. And as frustrating as the movie's non-ending is, it was probably more effective than just bashing us over the head with a contrived origin. Thumbs up. |
We'll see what that manga has to say.
|
Just got back. Very good movie. About damn time someone tried to make a horror type movie actually somewhat scary.
I love the hand held camera approach. I love the fact that they didn't really explain shit about the monsters. The dialogue sounded realistic. Good stuff. |
The helicopter scene was fuckin intense. Also, here's a website that has to do with the whole ARG aspect of the Cloverfield movie... http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/i...d14535c822db37
|
Yea I will give this movie a large amount of credit in one area...
It kept me up most of last night wondering about certain things about that monster that we may never find out. What I would really like to see and what would be great in that JJ Abrahms type of way is if they now did an action movie based off this where its some army guy trying to stop the monster. Sure the movie would suck but I think it would be awesome if you could see in some scenes the characters from the movie in the background. Perhaps the lead character in the action movie is that guy that comes out of nowhere at that one moment with the rocket launcher. I dont know...I just wish I had some answers because its been fuckin with my head all night. |
Just saw it again.
It still held up for me the second time. I was still immensely frightened. |
I would watch a sequel where they followed that Soldier that lets them go with info form the mall.
Or like from a camera recording info for the army, or even a news crew. |
Just realized how the sequel can happen.
Spoilers They follow the One survivor from the party after being evacuated by the Army in that first helicopter....Im sure she lands at some kind of base, and learns more about whats going on. |
Did any dogs die in this movie?
|
Got dragged to P.S. I Love You instead of this last night..
SOON :foc: :( |
I tried to go see it last night but it was sold out  I got dragged to The Bucket List
|
Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman > Hillary Swank and Harry Conick Jr.
:( |
Anyone else been following the ARG side of this?
It really did nothing for the story, but it kind of puts you in the world where this takes place, and its still going, so in the weeks and months coming up to the dates of the movie will give more info. |
FACT ONE: It Came From Japan Producer J.J. Abrams took his son to a toy store in Japan and saw rows and rows of Godzilla toys. Feeling that the U.S. lacked a giant monster of its own, he decided to a make his own creature feature that would be filmed entirely through the point-of-view of the people on the ground, running for their lives.
FACT TWO: "Felicity" Fans Are in for a Shock Abrams picked his childhood friend Matt Reeves to direct the film. Together, they created Felicity, a show about young New Yorkers looking for love. But while the most exciting moment on that show was the time Keri Russell cut her hair, in this movie the entire city gets hacked to pieces. FACT THREE: This Poster Doesn't Lie As a kid, Abrams loved Escape From New York. But he felt cheated that the image of the Statue of Liberty's head lying in the street on the movie's poster wasn't actually in the film. Abrams finally got to see it on the big screen in the teaser trailer that appeared before Transformers last summer. FACT FOUR: They Never Meant to Call It That To keep the movie a secret, the project was given the codename "Cloverfield," after a street near Abrams' office. The filmmakers had planned to release the movie as Greyshot, the name of a key Central Park location. But the temporary title spread through the internet so quickly that crew decided to keep it. FACT FIVE: Will There Be Anyone Left for a Sequel? In the exclusive clip below, Rob (Michael Stahl-David) and Beth (Odette Yustman) run to catch the last helicopter out of Manhattan. Do they make it? We're not telling. But Director Matt Reeves has stated that if they do a sequel, it might take place during the same monster attack, but seen from another camera. |
|
Anyone got decent pics of the monster?
I'd like to see the movie, but I'm suffering from nausea and dizziness, and I think the movie might make me throw up. :( |

Honestly, this fan art is nearly dea on, the face is different and its shoulders are Much Broader. http://media.filmschoolrejects.com/i...nsterart01.jpg Here is a shitty pic from the movie http://poststuff4.entensity.net/0118...loverfield.gif |
This movie did such a great job of giving this a real feel.
While this never could happen, if it did, it would go down just like this. In real life, if a monster attacked new york, no one would know what it is or how. And they included alot of scenes that gave it sucha real feel. Spoilers in black Like when Rob's mom calls him....imagine that happens, and your kids are in NY, and calling them one last time, ya know? Crazy. Watching the News, it was just like how they would do it. No one knew anything. |
I like the look of the critter.
|
So good. I enjoyed myself immensely during this movie and loved how nothing is ever answered and the ending is not very conclusive. Like somebody said though, it can definitely cause some nausea if you aren't careful and you're into that kind of thing.
Also the teaser for the Star Trek movie had me excited. |
Quote:
(spoilers in black) Like perhaps they have the monster taking down the helicopter on camera or maybe they are recording that scene at the park from a distance off where Hud gets killed by the monster and then the bridge is destroyed. |

Yeah, that was someone's concept sketch. Not really related to the movie at all.

this movie can have a zillion sequels. All done in POV's from different people.
|
I think keeping the mystery of the monster's apperance (and it's origin, history) will keep people hungry for more. The sequel could be even better.
I barely go out of my way to watch movies in theatres, but I HAD to see this. Loved it. I felt it was too short, and I left wanting more |
Just got back from seeing it and I must say I had a great time watching it. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Like many people have said in previous posts, with the way the monster was showcased, and the lack of origin it makes you want more. I think after they see the money they made this opening weekend, and overall a sequel will probably be made. It could be done from another persons POV or if they wanted to have a story based on its background and destroying another city could work fine too.
If you haven't seen it yet, I would give it a look. |
I just got back from seeing it and I thought it was very good. Kept me on the edge of my seat and was really frightening at parts, and seemed very realistic. Go check it out :y:
|
I was reading today about a possible sequel idea for the film...
Due to some fans actually being pissed at the fact they got a romance movie with a little monster other than a monster movie as promised...the idea is going around that the possibly sequel to the film will be a focus on the creature itself. The movie wont be shot on handycam but will be a full blown monster movie showing the creature attacking the city along with the soldiers trying to defend it. I like that idea but I dont know how good it will be. |
Amazing. The more time goes by the more intrigued I am by it too. I'm starving for more information. It was very gripping and had me on the edge of my seat. Everything about it was spot on really.
I like the idea of the sequel, providing it documents the night from another camera/group of people and involves a new journey. Also, it'd have to be different in some aspects. Like shed light on new things, show new details. Also, what's to say there was only those crabs. I'd like to see more info on that stuff, perphpas even a new smaller creature. And some insight into the chestburster or whatever that was. It was very very good and I think there's potential in sequels if done the same with new info. I like the idea of a series of movies that are just different documented videos in a goverment file. |
I went to see this last night and i was not expecting it to be as good as it was. i liked that there was never a clear shot of the monster because it left a sense of mystery since you never quite knew what it was capable of. while the movie left you wanting more, i think they should leave it untouched and not make a sequel.

Alot of people missed the point when they complain about the ending and knowing the monster. Having one of the characters get into an 'expos about where the monster really came from and such would ruin it for me, even if I instinctively wanted a scene like that after being spoiled for so many years. In the end, I'm doing completely unnecessary research into the film's mythology (reading characters MySpace profiles) just to learn more.
I so rarely get that involved in a movie's marketing campaign, the last time being the purchase of Enter the Matrix and Animatrix. |
Wow. Def. looking into this. Twice.
|
I saw it last night and thought it was a good change from most horror movies and the like.

Granted the first one is also on my top worst films of all time list. |
Blair Witch 2 was hilarious, and in two instances kind of scary. The Esrever thing was stupid, though.

lol

The creepiest part of the movie to me was not the MAIN, giant monster, but the small little spider/crab/mantis things instead.
I mean, the giant one was pretty cool, but the whole scene in the medical tent with the people exploding from being bitten (the woman exploding behind the curtain? Awesome.) was intense. The guy in front of me actually jumped and swung his arms in the air at that part. I've never seen that before in a theater. I've seen people jump, but never jump and swing their arms. |
I was reading around on the net and apparently it is actually revealed in the movie how the monster came to be....except you would of had to read a interview with Matt Reeves to understand it...
Spoiler in Black--- In the final scene in the film, (showing Rob and Beth saying they love each other to the camera) They take the camera and pan off toward the ocean. If you watch carefully you can see something fall out of the sky and land in the ocean. Fans were thinking it was the monster landing, but it was revealed to be a satellite. Reeves said in an interview when asked about the origins of the Monster that it was asleep at the bottom of the ocean. People are beliving that it was the satallite that woke the monster. |
does anybody know where i can get a torrent?
|
great movie.... i wish it was a little more than just the tape, like a military briefing or researcher before the film talking about the incident and playing the film and giving some in depth information after.
|
but it said it was still alive after the credits.

I like the idea that they don't go too far into the backstory and the like. They'll probably rectify this with a bad sequel or something (The Cloverfield Manga everyone's talking about would be a good place for some too) Quote:

The ARG really didn't have much to do with Cloverfield though. I mean it did but at the same time it basically set everything up for a sequel and or prequel dealing with other elements outside of the Cloverfield circle.

http://cloverfieldclues.blogspot.com/ this is basically everything that came out for the ARG.

I think the best method for a sequel would be to give us a documentary from several years later set within the Cloverfield universe.
