Heath Ledger found dead
 

TMZ has learned that 2006 Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has died in NY.

He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime.

The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams -- they separated in September, 2007. He plays the Joker in the upcoming Batman film, "The Dark Knight."

The NY Times is reporting a masseuse arrived at his apartment and was let in the door by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger's bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they found pills near body.

The mean thing about this is that when I told my friend his first words were "Well did he atleast finish Batman?"

My thought is that atleast his last movie will perhaps be his greatest role ever.

I was just reading that he was in the middle of filming a movie called "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus"

No clue what role he played or if it was a small role yet....also dont know if he finished his part yet.

I don't know what to say. This is terrible, RIP.

I only bring up Dark Knight because of it being one of the reasons I have been so interested in Ledger as of late. With that being said, I can't think of a better role to be his last role and legacy left behind.

I'm just as guilty of thinking "is Batman done/how is this going to affect Batman"

I'm not proud of it, it's just what my instinct was. I don't know him, I only know him as the key player in a movie that I'm anticipating more than any ever, with the exception of maybe one or two others.

I hope that his terrible end doesn't overshadow and distract from his career or his next role, for me or anyone else.

It looks to be a suicide, or careless accident. That's a shame. I'm just glad it wasn't something more disturbing

Maybe its all part of the viral marketing for Dark Knight, but taken to an all-new level. He'll just show up at the funeral in full Joker gear and ask everyone "Why so serious?" before laughing like a maniac.

Is it wrong that my first thought was it was a publicity hoax?

That was my second thought. My first being that this was one of those stupid "What would you do if so and so was found dead?" threads.

Nah, I thought something was odd about it.

A friend told me, and I googled "Heath Ledger" and none of the results were about him dying or news or anything. There was nothing on my yahoo homepage or imdb.

So I asked my friend if he was lying. Then I googled Heath Ledger dies and it all came up

Apparently he was found in Mary-Kate Olsen's apartment.

Would be amazing.

I hope so, other wise it sucks.

The movie he was filming was done by the guy who did brazil, one of my favorite films. DAMN.

This is terrible news. A huge tragedy for someone so young, and as an Australian who has probably been exposed to more of his work than most of you, I can honestly say that from an industrial standpoint, it's a huge loss for the Australian film community both domestically and internationally.

I echo the sentiment, though, that it seems his last role will really have been his greatest. :(

The NYPD has confirmed to TMZ that Heath Ledger was NOT at an apartment owned by Mary-Kate Olsen when he died.

I didn't think it was a hoax, but I did think of the publicity it would get the movie. I loved Batman Begins, and has every intent of seeing The Dark Knight, but to be honest, my interest in the film has pretty much doubled with Ledger's passing.

I think him overdosing softens the blow a little. The man was a great actor (he was nominated for his work in Brokeback Mountain, and his transformation into The Joker seems nigh-perfect), so it's a huge loss to the entertainment industry, and a human life has ended. There are those negative aspects, but if the guy chose to overdose, and that was his wish, then that is his decision.

It sucks that a great actor is gone, though. My thoughts go out to those who knew him personally, too. An Australian, too. :(

He was beginning to become one of my favorite actors. The guy was so damn versitale, there was no doubt in my mind, that at the end of his career he would have been considered one of the greats. Cept I figured the end to be about 50 years later.

And to those saying its his own fault, yeah there is truth to that, but its not that blunt. It wasn't some junkie heroin overdose. The guy was probably having sleep deprevation and prolly wasn't able to think straight when he took the pills. I can't possibly know for sure, but thats my guess. I think it should be looked at with a little more respect than your typicL HOLLYWOOD OD.

I doubt it will be delayed since it's like 5 months away from release, that's plenty of "respectful" delay in between his death and the release.

When I heard about this, I just stopped dead in my tracks and went "Wha-wha-whaaaat?" Totally unexpected. It wasn't like he was washed-up or anything, he was still going strong, especially with being the Joker in the new Batman movie. WTF.

WBC is rallying against him because he was in Brokeback Mountain. Basically, he's a pervert for pretending to be gay in a movie (Poorly, I'll add), thereby endorsing homosexuality. You'll have to keep in mind that these are the guys who protest the funerals of dead soldiers claiming that they are over in Iraq fighting for homosexuals. His autopsy just came back inconclusive.
Therefore nothing obvious caused his death. Like heart attack, brain aneurysm. I imagine once the toxicology comes back it'll determine the reason for his death.

Well, I'm not too surprised about Phelps stuff. He just fills in the blanks in his flyers. Actually, I'm quite amused that Phelps said that, since that's probably the first person that is NOT an American soldier in a long time. Believe me, saying that someone is in Hell is basically worth nothing (case: Randy Orton).

However, Phelps is just trying to get into the news, and no one gives him that luxury, basically. No one in the media really gives a fuck about Phelps (besides a few FOX people). Gibson, though, is an anchor whose comments are going to be out there in wide view, and for some weird reason, people still take a guy who legally changed his name to "Warrior" seriously. That's what makes their comments worse. If anyone took Phelps seriously, I would be VERY surprised.
