Heath Ledger found dead

TMZ has learned that 2006 Academy Award nominee Heath Ledger has died in NY.

He was found dead in his bed in one of his residences in Soho by his housekeeper at 3:35 PM ET today. Law enforcement sources tell TMZ they believe it was not a crime.

The 28-year-old actor has a two year old daughter with former fiancee Michelle Williams -- they separated in September, 2007. He plays the Joker in the upcoming Batman film, "The Dark Knight."

The NY Times is reporting a masseuse arrived at his apartment and was let in the door by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger's bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they found pills near body.

Story developing...

Kane Knight 01-22-2008 06:35 PM

He was also in a Knight's Tale and 10 things I hate about you.

ron the dial 01-22-2008 06:35 PM

WOW. Wow. Just wow.

Mike the Metal Ed 01-22-2008 06:40 PM

Well... this is something of a shocker. I've not seen him in anything yet, but I'm looking forward to The Dark Knight. R.I.P. Heath.

Bazooka 01-22-2008 06:40 PM

Shocking, RIP

so he was 28, died on the 22 of 2008. These are my numbers (28). :-\

Shaggy 01-22-2008 06:46 PM

That really sucks horribly...

The mean thing about this is that when I told my friend his first words were "Well did he atleast finish Batman?"

My thought is that atleast his last movie will perhaps be his greatest role ever.

Shaggy 01-22-2008 06:50 PM

I was just reading that he was in the middle of filming a movie called "The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus"

No clue what role he played or if it was a small role yet....also dont know if he finished his part yet.

Zelda 01-22-2008 06:52 PM

RIP

The Lone Wolf 01-22-2008 07:02 PM

Wow he is one of the last actors i would have imagined this happening to.

My thoughts exactly. (and I should probably change my avatar pic now, too)

I mean, it's an awful thing for his friends and family to go through, but if he really did OD, then it's his own fault.

Holy shit. Totally did not see this one coming.

That is almost exactly what my dad said...

My dad said "I have no clue who the guy is and its sad, but then again if he did OD then it was his fault."

Jeritron 01-22-2008 07:08 PM

I don't know what to say. This is terrible, RIP.

I only bring up Dark Knight because of it being one of the reasons I have been so interested in Ledger as of late. With that being said, I can't think of a better role to be his last role and legacy left behind.

I'm just as guilty of thinking "is Batman done/how is this going to affect Batman"

I'm not proud of it, it's just what my instinct was. I don't know him, I only know him as the key player in a movie that I'm anticipating more than any ever, with the exception of maybe one or two others.

I hope that his terrible end doesn't overshadow and distract from his career or his next role, for me or anyone else.

It looks to be a suicide, or careless accident. That's a shame. I'm just glad it wasn't something more disturbing

Lock Jaw 01-22-2008 07:09 PM

Maybe its all part of the viral marketing for Dark Knight, but taken to an all-new level. He'll just show up at the funeral in full Joker gear and ask everyone "Why so serious?" before laughing like a maniac.

....

Joke too soon?

That was my second thought. My first being that this was one of those stupid "What would you do if so and so was found dead?" threads.

Jeritron 01-22-2008 07:18 PM

Nah, I thought something was odd about it.

A friend told me, and I googled "Heath Ledger" and none of the results were about him dying or news or anything. There was nothing on my yahoo homepage or imdb.

So I asked my friend if he was lying. Then I googled Heath Ledger dies and it all came up

Rob 01-22-2008 07:19 PM

Apparently he was found in Mary-Kate Olsen's apartment.

The movie he was filming was done by the guy who did brazil, one of my favorite films. DAMN.

mitchables 01-22-2008 07:38 PM

This is terrible news. A huge tragedy for someone so young, and as an Australian who has probably been exposed to more of his work than most of you, I can honestly say that from an industrial standpoint, it's a huge loss for the Australian film community both domestically and internationally.

I echo the sentiment, though, that it seems his last role will really have been his greatest. :(

Damn, this is so sad. RIP.

I didn't think it was a hoax, but I did think of the publicity it would get the movie. I loved Batman Begins, and has every intent of seeing The Dark Knight, but to be honest, my interest in the film has pretty much doubled with Ledger's passing.

I think him overdosing softens the blow a little. The man was a great actor (he was nominated for his work in Brokeback Mountain, and his transformation into The Joker seems nigh-perfect), so it's a huge loss to the entertainment industry, and a human life has ended. There are those negative aspects, but if the guy chose to overdose, and that was his wish, then that is his decision.

It sucks that a great actor is gone, though. My thoughts go out to those who knew him personally, too. An Australian, too. :(

KingofOldSchool 01-22-2008 10:21 PM

And yet somehow crack smoking Amy Whinehouse and cock smoking Lindsey Lohan are still alive wasting precious oxygen.

Blitz 01-22-2008 11:10 PM

Creepy bit from the New York Times a while back...

Quote:

“I stressed out a little too much,” Mr. Ledger said.

He tends to do that. He is here in London filming the latest episode of the “Batman”franchise, “The Dark Knight.” (Mr. Bale, as it happens, plays Batman; Mr. Ledger plays the Joker.) It is a physically and mentally draining role — his Joker is a “psychopathic, mass-murdering, schizophrenic clown with zero empathy” he said cheerfully — and, as often happens when he throws himself into a part, he is not sleeping much.

“Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night,” he said. “I couldn’t stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going.” One night he took an Ambien, which failed to work. He took a second one and fell into a stupor, only to wake up an hour later, his mind still racing.

Fignuts 01-23-2008 01:10 AM

FUCK

He was beginning to become one of my favorite actors. The guy was so damn versitale, there was no doubt in my mind, that at the end of his career he would have been considered one of the greats. Cept I figured the end to be about 50 years later.

And to those saying its his own fault, yeah there is truth to that, but its not that blunt. It wasn't some junkie heroin overdose. The guy was probably having sleep deprevation and prolly wasn't able to think straight when he took the pills. I can't possibly know for sure, but thats my guess. I think it should be looked at with a little more respect than your typicL HOLLYWOOD OD.

Fignuts 01-23-2008 01:10 AM

Fuck you caps lock

tuney41 01-23-2008 01:51 AM

So whats going to happen with the dark knight

D Mac 01-23-2008 01:53 AM

It will still come out. Don't know if it will be delayed tho.

KingofOldSchool 01-23-2008 01:56 AM

I doubt it will be delayed since it's like 5 months away from release, that's plenty of "respectful" delay in between his death and the release.

Blitz 01-23-2008 02:04 AM

Apparently all his post production work on Dark Knight was already done.

CSL 01-23-2008 02:14 AM

Apparently he had pneumonia. I take it a cocktail of sleeping pills and anti-biotics could equal accidental OD.

If that's true it's such a shame.

When I heard 'Found dead with pills' I and I'm pretty sure most other people were thinking that he topped himself.

Regardless, it's such a shame, you could tell he had years/decades ahead of him.

I just pray he does Joker justice for his final role

WBC is rallying against him because he was in Brokeback Mountain. Basically, he's a pervert for pretending to be gay in a movie (Poorly, I'll add), thereby endorsing homosexuality. You'll have to keep in mind that these are the guys who protest the funerals of dead soldiers claiming that they are over in Iraq fighting for homosexuals. They're hateful douchebags who are looking for an excuse to crusade against something or other.

His autopsy just came back inconclusive.
Therefore nothing obvious caused his death. Like heart attack, brain aneurysm. I imagine once the toxicology comes back it'll determine the reason for his death.

Apparently, someone else has commented on this...rather disgusting (I know some people may not care what this guy says, but I saw this as outright horrible, and I HAD to let you see that the Warrior CAN become MORE retarded):

Quote:

Source: UltimateWarrior.com

The Ultimate Warrior has updated his official website with a new blog entry:

In the interest of full disclosure, I must tell you I have watched Brokeback Mountain no less than 45 times and I own the Limited Edition DVD, signed by Willie Nelson a short time after he wrote that queer cowboy song as a tribute to the courage of the producers and actors who broke such incredible creative ground when they made their agenda-less movie. Serious. Until I saw Bendover Brokeback, Braveheart was my favorite movie. But the love scenes of Brokeback sucked me right in and I had no choice but to give myself over to the passion of its wide open range, if you get my drift. Such courage this young man and his collaegues have. Reminds me of the courage of classic movie stars, where during the War they enlisted and flew bomber planes and fought on frontlines, then came back and picked up their lives and careers right where they left off, without anti-American sentiment, whining and complaining, or self-destructive self indulgence. I’m equally inspired.

Apparently, Leather Hedger had sleeping troubles and anxiety and dealt with terrible mood swings. So do soldiers but they don’t self-destructively f*** up their lives. In fact, they don’t sleep, handle anxiety and mood swings while dealing with whether or not they might at any moment lose their life. And they do this all the while they are dangerously protecting the freedom of others to f*** up their own. By the way, how many 28 (or older or younger) year old soldiers met their death yesterday? It’s not easy to find out. None of them made the headlines of any news.

By today’s standard, though, I do have to agree that he was a great father. Perhaps even greater then the father of the year, Hulk Hogan. After all, Leather Hedger did what it took to kill himself. His kid is without a father, yes, but the negative influence is now removed and his own child has the chance for a full recovery. Hogan, on the other hand, won’t go quite that far. He insists on sticking around to keep further ruining, and profiting off of, the parentally mismanaged lives of his own children.

It is sad and tragic ... that we don’t demand attention be paid to greater things.

Well, I'm not too surprised about Phelps stuff. He just fills in the blanks in his flyers. Actually, I'm quite amused that Phelps said that, since that's probably the first person that is NOT an American soldier in a long time. Believe me, saying that someone is in Hell is basically worth nothing (case: Randy Orton).

However, Phelps is just trying to get into the news, and no one gives him that luxury, basically. No one in the media really gives a fuck about Phelps (besides a few FOX people). Gibson, though, is an anchor whose comments are going to be out there in wide view, and for some weird reason, people still take a guy who legally changed his name to "Warrior" seriously. That's what makes their comments worse. If anyone took Phelps seriously, I would be VERY surprised.
